I am trying to put on a webpage a picture with a discription, however when I create an MxDataGrid and run the page all the info in the datagrid is correct except the image. All that is in the field is "System.Byte[]".
I am new to web programming but I have created many databases and using Access as a front end where this process is very straightforward.
Can anyone tell me how I can make this work?
I want to store images along with other info about the image in the database so that I can simply query the database and have the page fill from the query.
I am having a problem with MMSQL BLOB with VB, Sorry to say I am new in Programming using VB 6 and MSSQL and I have never touch BLOB in my live.
I just wish anyone could give me any ideal, like, white pages, or manual on how do I insert BLOB data (Images) to MSSQL 2000 database using VB 6. I need to know exspecially the VB Code and the SQL Portion if you have a store procedure code for that it will be nice.
I'm populating an Access continuous form with lots of icons from a SQLServer backend. If I remove the field holding the icons from thestored procedure, the form loads 5X faster. Is there any sort of trickto improve the performance of this sort of scheme?lq

I am trying to create a website that people can upload an image and have it saved to a database. Can someone point me in the right direction on this? What properties need to be saved in the db and how?
i am trying to upload images from an asp.net or vb.net front end to a sql server db. I can upload the image fine if I first save the image to a file and then upload but my question is whether I can upload the image without first saving the image file. What i would like to do is to capture an image with a digital camera and without saving it first (an extra step for the user), upload it to a sql server db.

I wanted to store image files in my Db.So can i use image data type?If i can use the image data type how big images can i store. My image are arounf 10 mb in size. Thanks.
I have a problem and I do not know what way to go:
We have a large amount of images that we need to store (large amount is more that 1.000.000), the logical question is, whether we shall store them in the database, or we should store them separate on the file-system, and place the filepath and filename in the database.
Some articles say that SQL Server 2000 will get performance problems with this amount of images stored in the database, others say that it should be no problem.
Can someone please give me a advice?

Hi is it possible to have a page of a website display the status of a database or MS SQL with .Net code ?, if so what code would i use. Any help would be appreciated.Thank You
We are an accountanting firm who wants to upload tax returns in the .pdf form for our clients. We want them to be able to login, receive that status of their return, and if completed download the .pdf. But what we cannot have is everybody having access to everybody's returns, it has to be exclusive to that client and their username and password. It also has to be a simplified process where once a .pdf is made, one of the employees will have administration access to upload the file to the website corrolating with a clients information. I'm assuming that would be done by a web application?? I have already set up a a login control, on the login.aspx page, along with the ASPNETDB.MDF through the ASP.NET Configuration tool. Also, I'm assuming the file naming process of the tax returns would fall into play somewhere?? I some how need to take the login information from the ASPNETDB.MDF and relate it to their PDF's. What I have explained is the major purpose of the site and if I could find the right help I would greatly appreciate it because I've been stuck on this road block for awhile.

I would like to display an asp page in a Reporting Services report. However, I do not want to have to click a button and navigate to it. I just want to display it sort of like a subreport. Is this possible?
So what's the secret to getting images in and out of a SQL database? There's lots out there about this, but I cant seem to get any of it to work... I have a table, named Attachments and among other columns I have one called Attachment. I've tried using both image and varbinary(max) data types, both with the same results. I have an sproc with the following code: INSERT INTO Attachments (Attachment) SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET(BULK 'c: est.bmp', SINGLE_BLOB) AS BulkColumn That seems to read the file and create a record. If I move the file, yeah it complains it doesnt exist... If I "show data" on the table, there is a new record and under Attachment, it says "<Binary Data>. t seems to be there, but who knows for sure... So in an aspx file, I have the following: myConnection.Open();string SQL = "SELECT Attachment FROM Attachments";SqlCommand myCommand = new SqlCommand(SQL, myConnection);byte[] bytePic = (byte[])myCommand.ExecuteScalar(); When I run it, it errors out on that last line with "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'. With the use of "DBNull", it sure does seem the SQL is coming up emtpy handed, eh? If I change the SELECT to AttachmentId (an identity field), it says it cant cast a "system32" - which makes sense... Any ideas whats going on? Many thanks!! -- Curt
hi everyone,I'm currently developing a website and have a lot of images to use there(obviously :P), until now I have in some tables in my sql server db where exists a column which stores the path to: 'image folder + filename'And my question is: what are the advantages of using binary images in database instead of this approach to the problem, i.e., having images stored in a server folder. Thanks in advance.
Hey all,I'm working on a database which (I hope) will have photos in it. However, I'm having difficulty how to properly insert photos into an SQL database. I see that it has an 'image' data-type, but I don't know how to make proper use it.Given that the answer to this question could be quite lengthy, if someone could provide me a link to somewhere, or a book to pick up that could answer this answer, I would be most gratified. Thanks!
I have a client who wants to be able to upload images to his website for his customers to access. It will probably max out at 100 images a month...so not a huge amount of data. I am using asp.net 2.0 and SQL Server 2005. Does anyone have thoughts or opinions on why I should or should not take this approach?
hi, i am working on a website that will be storing millions of images. i have read various advantages/disadvantages of saving the images on sql vs. file system. i would like to keep all the data in one location (sql server in this case), so what i had in mind is following:i am going to save the original image data on a sql server. now, the website user can view a (multiple) thumbnail version(s) of the original image and the orig. image itself, so instead of getting the original image from sql and resizing it everytime, i was going to create a file(s) on a sep. server with the resized image(s) that would be called instead (think of it as file-cache). this would reduce the load on the sql server drastically since all the thumbnails (and orig. image) would have the file version of themselfes and would be loaded from the separate server. this way i could have all my data on a sql server, have thumbnail images on an "image server" and everything should be fine with the exception of the increased disk space. Also, i would not have to worry about having 2 backups since i have all the data on sql and each image/thumbnail would be file-cached on it's first call. if the file-cache of the image is not available for whatever reason i would just load straight from the db. i would appreciate any suggestions on this. thanks :)
I am creating a SALES database on SQL Server. I have been inserting the data into the tables (without using SQL statements) in the Enterprise Manager by going to the relevant server group - click on Databases - clicking SALES database - right click ORDERS table and select "open table" - "return all rows". The ORDERS table opens and I enter the values manually.
Is it all right to enter numeric and text data this way? Is there a similar way for storing images or do I have to use SQL statements when it comes to inserting images into the table?
