SQL Server Import Copy Or Query
May 19, 2006
Hi All,
I have an issues with running the above. I am trying to import tables from an Oracle Database and want to use this wizard. The problem is that when I use the wizard it is not letting me select the "Copy data from one or more tables or views" it is not selectable, it's greyd out. It will only let me select "Write a query to specify the data to transfer".
Or if someone can provide me with basic a script that will let me import tables that begin with "capa" and "capd". My sql is really awful.
Thanks
Andy

Hi
I'm experiencing problems copying a SQL 2000 database from my host to a local SQL Server.
I choose the Data Source OK, using SQL Server Authentication and the username and password used to setup my hosted database.
Then I specify the destination, my local server. I'm using my sa account and password and creating a <new> database (doesn't matter if I use the same db name as the source or a different one, I'm still getting an error).
I then choose "Copy objects and data between SQL Server databases", then take all defaults on the "Select Objects to Copy screen", i.e. create destination objects drop objects first and include dependent objects); creat data (replacing existing data); Copy all objects and use default options.
The copy appears to be creating a script OK (runs up to 100%), then looks to start copying objects. It gets to approx 20% and reports that it "Failed to copy objects from Microsoft SQL Server to Microsoft SQL Server". When I click on the Executing Package entry it tells me:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The login already has an account under a different user name.
I can't seem to find any reference to this error in my books or on Google (usually a great source of info). Can't help feeling I'm doing something stupid. Would be very, very greatful if someone out there could give me a pointer in the right direction.
Thanks,
Keith.

A view named "Viw_Labour_Cost_By_Service_Order_No" has been created and can be run successfully on the server.
I want to import the data which draws from the view to a table using SQL Server Import and Export Wizard.

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:
- Prepare for Execute (Error)
Messages

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.
Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

I have a query that is taking 6 mintues on my db so i copied the 2 relevant tables to a new db for testing and then tested the query and it took only 30 seconds.
why would this be? tables are the same size - i copied to the new by creating the table and then inserting from the old to then new.
these are very big tables.
the first db does have many other tables but why should that make a difference?

Hello,
I am sure there will be a simple answer to this but it has got me stumped.
Having to move over to Vista with my new machine so I am having to switch to 2005 version for my development but still upload to a 2000 server.
I have had a look at 2005, like the new Management Studio, however I ahve a couple of problems which I can not find the answer to.
Firstly, the SQL Query Builder, where has it gone? I often have to import/export data from Excel files and used to use the SQL query builder to create my queries. If I want to copy all columns it is fine but if I want to import select columns I find it easier to view a list and then just add the ones I want.
Am I missing something here?
Secondly, copying stored procedures, before when running DTS ther were three options, Copy Tables/Views, Data Using Query and Copy Objects.
I used the copy opbjects a lot as it was a very quick way of transfering a group of tables and stored prcoedures that I had created. This appears to have now been replaced with Copy Database, which copies everthing, can can not be used to copy from SQL2005 to SQL2000.
If I want to copy multiple stored procedures from SQL2005 to SQL2000 how is it done now? I have tried finding out but have not been sucessful.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Regards,
Lee

Hi all,
[SQL Server 2005]
I just moved to SQL 2005 developer edition & was trying to figure out how to import all objects (all tables, views & stored procedures ... are the main ones I need at the moment) into a DB from SQL 2k ??
There's an option to chose "Write Query to ..." in the Import Wizard, but I'm not good at all at SQL or is there an option/tool to help me out w/ this.
Could someone please point me in the right direction if this has been posted before, or if you have a Script that does this, thanks much appreciated.

Hi,
I set up DB mirror between a primary (SQL1) and a mirror (SQL2); no witness. I have a problem when I issue command:
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
The error message is:
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy of the database log.
I have the steps below prior to the command. (Note that both servers' service accounts use the same domain account. The domain account I login to do db mirror setup is a member of the local admin group.)
1. backup database DBmirrorTest on SQL1
2. backup database log
3. copy db and log backup files to SQL2
4. restore db with norecovery
5. restore log with norecovery
6. create endpoints on both SQL1 and SQL2
CREATE ENDPOINT [Mirroring]
STATE=STARTED
AS TCP (LISTENER_PORT = 5022, LISTENER_IP = ALL)
FOR DATA_MIRRORING (ROLE = PARTNER)
7. enable mirror on mirror server SQL2
:connect SQL2
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL1.mycom.com:5022';
go
8. Enable mirror on primary server SQL1
:connect SQL1
alter database DBmirrorTest
Set Partner = N'TCP://SQL2.mycom.com:5022';
go
This is where I got the error.
The remote copy of database "DBmirrorTest" has not been rolled forward to a point in time that is encompassed in the local copy
Thanks for any help,

Hi!
I did:
alter database mydb set single_user with rollback immediate;
exec sp_detach_db @dbname='mydb', @keepfulltextindexfile='true';
then I tried to copy files to new location on other drives, same server but got
>>Cannot copy <myfile>: Access is denied
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use<<
I also tried rename of file without success.
I also tried with db service stoppet (not preferred) without success.
How to find out, which process locks the files?
Best regards

I'm experiencing issues importing XML data using a distributed query with the following statement which is run from an XP client named WorkstationA connecting to SQL2005 SP2 ServerB, the XML data is located on ServerC.
AdHoc Queries using OpenRowSet has been enabled and verified.
The SQL Server service is running using a domain user account with permissions to read the remote files. I have logged in locally to the SQL server and verified this. It still fails even if the SQL services are running using LocalSystem.
User on Workstation A is authenticated with Integrated security (SQL Admin) and has rights to read the XML files on ServerC.
WorkStationA = SQL2005 Mgt Studio running the query
ServerB = SQL2005 SP2
ServerC = XML data files
DECLARE @xml XML
SELECT @xml =CONVERT(XML, bulkcolumn, 2)
FROM OPENROWSET(BULK '\SERVERCSHAREPATHDATAFILE.XML', SINGLE_BLOB) AS x
SELECT @xml
Results: Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
Cannot bulk load because the file "\SERVERCSHAREPATHDATAFILE.XML" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access Denied).
The query fails when it is run from Workstation A connected to SQL ServerB querying data on ServerC via a UNC.
The query is succesful when it is run from the local SQL ServerB. The problem is with distributed queries.
The query is succesful when the XML files are local to the SQL server including referencing them via a local UNC
Thank you for any responses.

I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.My problem is that I need to set up a backup SQL Server 2000 machinewhich can be used in case of a failure to my primary. All databases(30 as of now) must be an up to the minute exact copy of productionand include most recent changes in data as well as any structurechanges (Tables, Views, SP's, Triggers, Users . . etc).When I tried this using Transactional Replication, the replicationprocess gets fouled up once I introduce any kind of structure changesto the DB. I've considered the idea of doing periodic backups andrestoring it to my backup SQL server, but this does not give me theconcurrency needed with 0 latency.I've seen articles that recommend using Transaction Replication with'Scheduled Table Refresh', and also doing database dumps to restore onthe backup machine, but I have not been able to find any documentationregarding this to try out. How can I implement this type of backupstrategy in SQL 2000?

I want to schedule a job which pulls files from a non SQL server (Sybase) which later needs to have a step 2 kicking the ssis package. Problem is that, on the source a batch file will run every 4 hours and outputs total of 10 text files. (takes 5 minutes complete). Now, on destination i want to pull these files via SQL job but while scheduling;
1. I don't see any option saying like 4 hours 10 minutes or so
2. If its out there, then i believe this might be a problem as this time would be an increment one e.g next run would be 4 hours 20 minutes in that case.
How should i achieve pulling these files up because we have an SSIS package on destination that needs those text files to be used as soon as they arrive on SQL server(destination)

Greetings,
I have two SQL Server tables on the same server and in the same database. I'll call them table A and table B. They have identical schemas. I need to insert all rows in table A into table B. (Don't laugh - this is just for testing and long run the tables will reside on different servers.)
Can someone please tell me the correct task to use for this and the connection type I need for both the source and destination?
Thanks,

Hello!
What is the best way to make a copy of an existing sql server database to another (physical) server?
Plan to make a full backup of another sql server database to another server. I've read about detach and attach
and copying the datafiles and log files but some say it is prone to data loss? Is this true?
And another thing, what if the existing sql server can't affor downtime for me to copy db files etc.?
Anybody here who have done the same?
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Ok, here is my dilemma
I have an application that has many sites. Each site has it's own database. The databases have common tables (ie the name and fields are the same) What I want to be able to do is when creating a new database, I want to be able to copy certain common table data from one database to another. I have run into an error because the table have an IDENTITY so this is not working
INSERT INTO Containers SELECT * FROM ADMS2_Indian_Point.dbo.Containers
I also tried
USE ADMS2_RSCS
GO
SET IDENTITY_INSERT Containers ON
GO
INSERT INTO Containers SELECT * FROM ADMS2_Indian_Point.dbo.Containers
GO
SET IDENTITY_INSERT Containers OFF
GO
I got an error saying that I need to have a column list. I am trying to use this for any tables, so my question is this..
Is there any way to get around using a column list or is there a way to dynamically create the column list?
Or, Is there a better way that I should be doing this?
Please keep in mind I am not a dba and everything I have learned about SQL is from my good pal Google :)
Thanks for any help

I am trying to copy/update a table which is in server2 based on a similar table which is in server 1. I can't use replication,
so I am thinking which are the best ways to do without affecting the performance as the source table is busy with inserts or updates. I am thinking of following options:
1. SQL server 2000 DTS packages: As I am trying to copy the data from the source table(server1) into a destination table which is a similar table in server2, if I use dts first I want to take the complete snapshot and then on I only want to copy the new transactions or updated transactions, please let me know how I can do this.
2. Does trigger affect the performance as the server1(source table) is a busy server.
Please let me know. Thanks.
