Is it possible to change the accounts to "DOMAIN" account if the SQL Server installation was done using the "Local" account initially without impacting the installed applications?
We do use various applications on the server viz. VSTS, Reporting, etc. I am concerned that changing the services account from Local System to a Domain user account now may break something.
I installed VSTS 2005 for Developers along with SQL Express and SQL Management Studio. I can't find any reference to Reporting projects anywhere. Where should that come from?
I tried installing SQL components from the SQL 2005 Standard Edition install but got a message that what I was trying to install was older than what was already installed....
I have both VSTS 2005 for Developers and VSTS 2005 for Database Professionals installed on my PC. I can't find any BI or SSIS projects in File->New Projects. The only database-related projects are to write Stored Procedures, Views, etc. Where is it? Did they break it when they added the Database version on top of the Developers version?
I'd like to install SQL SERVER 2005 Express Edition ,I begin to install it from DVD but during the installation it dosn't ask me about any instance and after installation there isn't SQLExpress service and I can't use sql server .(there are not MSSQL and Binn directory in sql server 2005) but when I install visual studio 2005 and after that I install sql server 2005 it ask me for name of instance and with this way every thing is ok and I use sql server completely.

Please help,I am trying to install MSDE 2000 so that Backup exec will run on thisserver. I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails. Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. I have gone through all MS articles on manual removal of SQLserver and instances. I have searched the registry for mssql7 andremoved any keys that matched, as per MS article I have searched onSQLBOOT.dll and it is not present anywhere on my system and I still getthe same results.2:07:44 Begin Action: Detection12:07:44 SQL Server version already installed: 7.00.62312:07:44 Previous Install SQL Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 Previous Install SQL Data Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 End Action Detection12:07:44 Begin Action: ODBCLocked12:07:44 End Action ODBCLocked12:07:44 GetDefinition returned: 112:07:44 Previous SQL Server ProductType: MSDE [0x4]12:07:44 This combination of Package and Operating System allows a fullproduct install.can anyone think of anything here..what else could be causing the server to think there is a previousversion of SQL 7 on this box!!!?
I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of 'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Below is the Summary.txt output file.

Hi Guys, I have had SQL Server Express and Sql Server Management Studio Express installed on my machine for some time and recently tried to install a trial of SQL Server 2005 as well. (Yes, I'm migrating from Visual Studio Express to Visual Studio Professional, just as in tended!) Everything went fine except that nothing seemed to be installed. I searched in all the obvious places - both on the Start/Programs menu and on the hard-drive: nothing. A check under Add/Remove Programs showed that Sql Server 2005 Express was installed, but called SQL Server 2005. So after a number of retries in which the install program kept saying that there was nothing to install, I selected every option under Advanced in the intall process. This resulted in stuff being installed and I now have SQL Server 2005 running on my machine, but no SQL Server Manager icon. My questions are:
Where can I find the SQL Server Manager executeable? Has anyone installed SQL Server Express, SQL Server Mangement Studio Express, SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server Management Studio on a single machine successfully? If so, what order did you install them in? (I'm planning on uninstalling everything SXQL Server related and starting again.) Thanks very much for your help. Regards Gary
I am using SQL Express 2005 server and sql compact edition for my PDA. For synchronization, which SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Server Tools installation package do I use?
Is it Sqlce30setupen.msi or sql2kensp4.msi or sql2kensp3a.msi? I know for sql server 2005 its Sqlce30setupen.msi. Is it the same for the SQL Express 2005?

I am new to this sql server thing. And for last couple of days i m trying to figure out whether we can install sql server 2000 ent edition in a server after installing or upgrading sql server 2005 from (sql server 2000) . As sql server 2005 is know to exist side by side with earlier sql server versions .
And coming to the problem which i m facing is , I have installed sql server 2005 ent in windows 2000 server in which sql server 2000 is residing.Later when i observerd i realised that actually i have upgraded 2000 to sql 2005 server (which i hav done after consulting many people). As a result few of the client systems which were running sql server personal edition were unable to access their data from the database. For temporary relief i have installed sql server 2005 express edition plus management studio in the client systems . The doubts which i am having are
1) what happens if i uninstall sql server 2005 2) Is it possible to install sql server 2000 ent edition now to work along with sql server 2005
thanks in advance .....waiting for your quick replies ..any idea's
I have got problems with installation of a default instance on SQL Server 2008 on Vista Home Premium. During the step of Server Configuration you should enter UserName and password for each service. I do not know what user name to type. I tried every possible combination but the outcome is always the same - after typing usernames and passwords, installation suddenly fails without casting any exception. I'm not sure if I do something wrong (wrong User Name or Password) or is it a problem with installation application or with OS. Please, help.
I am quite new to asp.net and is still int he learning phase, working my way through a text book. At the moment I'm having trouble installing SQL server 2000. When I try to run the installation file I get the follwing error message :
A strong SA password is needed for security reasons. Please use SAPWD switch to supply the same. Refer to readme for details. Setup will now exit.
It might have something to do with the fact that I don't have an administrator's password on XP at the moment.
Could someone please tell me what's wrong or what to do to get SQL Server to install. P.S I don't check the forum that often so if someone replies to this could they please send me an email to gfcarstens@mweb.co.za to notify me.

I've just installed SQL Server 6.5 on NT Server 4.0 and then installed utilities on my client Win 95 machine. I've registered the server on the NT and on the client machine as well.
However, on the client machine I can't get the 'green light' on the server icon, and 'Start', 'Stop' options aren't available either. (Everything looks OK on the server itself (NT machine).)
I've registered server useing 'sa' account and changed sa's password (from the initial ""). Is it because I need to take additional steps to take a complete control over the server? Or it just a client utilities settings? Or both?
I have installed and uninstalled SQL Server using Microsoft Office XP CD from the MSDE folder. Now when I try to re-install it again, it doesn't install at all. Have tried it many times now. Please assist!!! PS-I am sure that te CD is not corrupted
I installed SQL Server 2000 in my Windows XP Professional 2002. Before the installation finished, there was an error message about the HHCOL.EXE, I don't know this file. I restarted my computer then I tried to go to Enterprise Manager to start creating Database but there was a promp message saying:
"Snap-in-failed to initialize. Name:Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager CLSID: {00100100-1816-11D0-8EF5-00AA0062C58F}"
What does it mean?
I installed several times in Windows XP for SQL Server 2000 but this is my first time to encounter this problem. The SQL Service Manager works fine (Services:SQL Server). Our server name has the maximum lenght of 15 characters long.
Question, I have a dedicated SQL Server box, just the OS and SQL Server, andwas curious as to where best to setup DB.Drive Size WhatDrive1 73GB OS & SQL Server SoftwareDrive2 73GB mirror of Drive 2Drive3 300GB Actual DBsDrive4 300GB mirror of Drive 3In doing so, my reasoning would be to leave the OS alone. Will be runningeither Windows 2003 server, or 2000 Advanced Server, not sure yet.Presently have about 4M records archived in different Access DBs, and I knowsize will grow to about 33M within 1 year.TIA,Hank
Is there a need to install the Integration Services to a Server? Isn't it enough to just port the .dtsx file from my local drive to the server and execute it by SQL Agent using DTExec /f command?
I had been using Windows 2000 Server along with MS SQL Server 2000. But now I have formatted my computer and installed Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server Service Pack 1. Since then, I am not able to install SQL Server 2000 in it.
Please suggest which version of SQL Server should I install, and where to download it from. Is it possible to install SQL Server 2000 server module in Windows 2003, since it says only the client module of SQL Server 2000 can be loaded here. I dont want to install any express edition, i.e., MSDE.
Is it required at installation for SQL Server that the binaries/tools be installed on the C-drive, and cannot be installed on an alternate drive? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just installed SQL Server 2000 Developers edition on my computer. After installation I tried to create a simple table which I was unable to do. When I attempted to create the table, I went into SQL Server Enterprise Manager and under Console Root I extended / Microsoft SQL Servers / SQL Server Group / (local) Windows NT when it gave me the following 2 message box errors :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An error 1069-(The service did not start due to login failure)occured while preforming this server operation on the MSSQL service.
---and---
A connection could not be established to (local).
Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied. ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Servier registion properties(by right- clicking on the (local) node) and try again.
I have Windows XP Professional and currently run IIS. I have tried re-registering without success and at this point I don't know what I need to do in order to correct these errors and create a simple table.

Hi, I'm learning ASP.net and I just bought Visual Studio .net professional. I tried to install MS SQL server 2000 on my two computers. One OS is windows server 2003 standard edition and another is Win XP professional. Both of them appeared SQL Server Upgrade Wizard "from server 6.5 upgrade to server 2000". I don't think I have server 6.5 installed and there is no server 6.5 application interface to run the server. What's the problem? I cannot run the Wizard successfully. Can I just ignore it?Thank you,William
