We still have some Legacy 2000 DTS packages running on our 2005 Server. The DTS packages have been configed to save the logs on the 2005 SQL server. We can manually look at the logs in 'msdb.dbo.sysdtspackagelog' and 'msdb.dbo.sysdtssteplog' table but I am looking for some GUI tools so our tech support can view the package logs without writting a query.
In 2000 Enterprise Manager, you can right click on a DTS package and select 'Package Log...' and then a nice GUI window will show up for you to browse through all the dts logs. I just can't find this tool in 2005 Server Management Studio for Legacy DTS packages. If I right click on a Legacy DTS package, all the option I get are 'Open, Migrate, Export, Delete, Rename, Refresh'... Since the log tables are still the same, I am wondering if there is anyway I can use that 2000 DTS log viewer in 2005?
I have installed SQL server 2005 enterprise edition on Windows 2003 virtual PC (full installation). The installation went through successfully. However, after install completed, I cannot find any of the client tools under the start menu -> all programs -> Microsoft SQL server 2005 menu. The only item listed under the SQL server 2005 is Configuration Tools, which is used to configure the database server.
I have tried to install the client component again (in case I didn't install them at the first place) but the installation process cannot be started since it detected that the client components have been installed already. I can also see the sql server native client running in the services.
The server engine is working fine since I can connect to that sql server using another machine where I have the client tool (SQL server management studio).
One of my friends has exactly the same problem. He installed the sql server 2005 Standard edition on windows 2003 server (full installation), but the client tools are not showing up in the start menu either.
I also checked the location for the SQL server management studio (Microsoft SQL server/90/Tools/Binn/VSShell/Common7/IDE), there is only one folder called publicAssemblies listed under. Is this correct or something is missing?
I have a 2003 Server which has two Named Instances of SQL Server 2000.
I need to add a third Named Instance, but when I logged onto the Server this morning, I noticed that all of the 'Microsoft SQL Server' Entries are missing from the START/PROGRAMS menu !! Enterprise Manager, BOL... everything!! The SQL Server Service Manager is running and both of my Instances are up and running (this is a production box). I can launch Enterprise Manager from MMC.EXE in WINDOWSSystem32 folder... very weird!!!!
In my Add/Remove Programs, I see MS SQL Server listed Twice.. one time for each of the two named Instances.
Has anyone ever seen this before??? Do you think it's safe to run SQL Server Installation to Install a Third Instance on this box???
In my case I have to log the errors raised by any task in a package to either windows event log, text file or SQL server. Also I need to send an email notifications to a group of people telling them about the error.
Now can I use SSIS package logging for logging the errors into the required destinations. I mean right clicking on the package and selecting Logging, then adding the required log providers and enabling the events for logging into those. I think I have to upfront select the log providers to log the error, I will not have the liberty to log the error to the destination, the name of which is passed as a variable to the package. This is okay with me though.
Now what will a custom log provider help me to do in this case. Also can I somehow configure my package to call the send mail task everytime an error is raised.
Also, one more option can be developing a package that only does the error handling. It will take in the paramters or the error codes and descriptions, the destination to write to and a flag to send mail or not for that particular type of error.
I have recently installed the SQL Server Management Studio Express but I do not find Management Tools in order to create scheduled backups and shrinking of the databases. I was under the impression that this should be included in the Management Studio. I use the SQL 2005 Express for smaller customers who run the SQL on a desktop unit. I need a way to backup the data to a server machine for backup purposes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail.
I have created a database with several tables. I want to create a database diagram to show the relationshipbetween the tables. Below are the steps from the SQL Server 2005 documentation on how to create a database diagram. The problem is that when I right click on the Database Diagrams folder I am only given two options. They are:"Working with SQL Server diagrams" and "Refresh"There is no menu choice to create a new database diagram. Can anyone tell me what the problem here is?
To create a new database diagramIn Object Explorer, right-click the Database Diagrams folder or any diagram in that folder. Choose New Database Diagram on the shortcut menu. The Add Table dialog box appears. Select the required tables in the Tables list and click Add. The tables are displayed graphically in the new database diagram.
In Enterprise Manager, Management and then SQL Server Logs, when I clicked on Current or Archive#1 or 2 etc, nothing happens. This has been going on for the past 3 weeks does any one knows what is causing such problems?
I'm very novice when it comes to SQL Server Administration.
I have been asked if the SQL Server Log can trace information on whether data supplied to an individual has been tampered with, or if it is the full data set provided.
Apologies for this vague description, but that is what I have to go on also.
I am trying to find an article which details what the purpose of SQL Server logs are and if I can extract this sort of information from them.
Any idea if the SQL server log can provide tracing/editing/exporting information?
We are using sql server 2000. I checked the sql server logs and noticed that everytime a user logs into sql an error log gets created stating, "starting up database 'CORT'". This db has nothing to do with users logging in as far as I can tell. What can check to find out what's causing this error log?
Hi,As subj says. A simple menu is defined in a table. But how to extract it?Heres the deal:Table menu has these 3 columns: menuid parent menudescOk this should be easy right? Those menu-rows that has parent=0 is"toplevel". And so forth. An example:1 0 "Items"2 0 "Standings"3 0 "Test"4 2 "Liverpool"5 2 "AC Milan"6 1 "Itemno1"This menu should in layout come in this order:ItemsItemno1TestStandingsAC MilanLiverpoolThat is: Alphabetically sorted and with the children underneath the parents.Right? Yes - and selecting the menu and doing some gymnastics in ASP isntthat hard. But ASP must be the language that has the "crapiest" way ofhandling arrays...so a simple task is really messy. Creating a storedprocedure involes 2-3 temporary tables as I see it. Not vey elegant either. So my question is: Isnt there any way of selecting this order directly usingSQL?? Some nice clean and beautiful way?--Thanks,Summa
I have a question that I hope someone can help with. I am attempting to load my IIS logs into SQL Server using DTS. I have done this sucessfully by manually specifying the source file. I would like to automate this process but, I have been unable to figure out how to do this. The IIS logs changes daily and the file name changes. How do I configure DTS to grab the log for the previous day?
I believe that the solution is to first copy the log to an alternate location then let DTS do it's thing. How do I programatically accomplish this ?
I've been digging for a while to try to find something, even had a consultant looking for me, but came up empty haned.
What I want to do is this:
I activated the Security Audit level for all logins. I want to be able to report last login date for every user from the log, and all login events for SA or any other defined super users.
Is it possible to Query the SQL Server Logs to report this information?
This is for proposed Sarbox Database Security settings.
I recently performed an SQL server 2000 installation. Other thanplacing the program files on C: and data on D:, I saw no option toinstall transaction logs in an alternate location. What is the best practice with SQL server 2000 for location oftransaction logs? I remember that Microsoft used to take the positionthat transaction logs should be placed on their own FAT partition.
I have SQL Server 2005 Express on a Windows XP SP2 machine. Everything works fine and I have several dbs running. How ever I was wanting to optimize some programs and needed to watch the server and see what it is processing. I log into SQL Management Studio Express and when I go to Management->Server Logs I see the logs and the Activity Monitor. If I right click on the log all I see is Refresh. If I doule click nothing happens. I can view the Activity Monitor and the processes going.
I am sure it is a permission thing or something along those lines. I can not for the life of me figure it and have spent a couple days on google and these forums. I have tried with the SA, my defined users, and the local windows administrator. Is log viewing not allowed in SQL Server Express?
I understand that there is a SQL Server Logs section in Enterprise Manager 2000 where we can view SQL Server activity. Is it possible that we can get those logs by using query? I had been searching over the Internet, system databases, system SP and still have no idea how to achieve it.
I followed an article which was recently published by Jeff Prosise in his "Wicked Code" column in MSDN magazine and I was able to make it work.My problem is that I do not know how to refresh the menu. If I add new record in the sitemap table what needs to happen to refresh the menu.
Hello,I am upgrading my (simple) cms from one menu layer to two layers. So i have two tables in de my DB- table_mainmenu- table_submenuThe submenu records are linked to the mainmenu records on the mainmenu id. So far so good. Heres my problem, i cant figure out how to change the order of the pages...!? What is the theory behind recording the stacking order of the menu items? How can i record this information in the DB?I just need the theory, i can figure out the details for myself. Thanks in advance!Corstiaanp.s. is the the right forum to post this?
I have a table called suppliers where i type my suppliers details. I have also a table called supp_corellation in which i have the proffesion of my suppliers.
there is one column in the table of suppliers which it takes data from the table supp_corellation . Is it possible to choose the values from a list instead of typing in my table (lets say drop down list)???
Is it possible in SQL Reporting 2005 to have dropdown menu(eg..on mouseover list of static menu appears from which i can navigate to other rdl files while passing all parameters) ..
I am now starting to create actual database projects in SSMS but the problem is that when I go to create add a new item by right-clicking on the project all i get is
Existing Item New Connection New Query
So, can anyone tell me how do I get the 'Add New Item' menu item to appear so I don't have do the riduculous way of creating a new query, then open another non-project script item from template explorer, then copy the contents from latter to former and then close the superfluous non-project script item.
