Presumably an easy question but every time I open a query file the SSMS requires me to login. Very frustrating. Cannot find a configuration option, properties attribute or other to turn this off. Can anyone adivse how I can set up SMSS to require a login at the beginning of the session and then not again for each saved query I open?
I'm running into an issue that only occurs on Vista machines against a SQL Server 2005. We have a table with a varbinary(MAX) column in which we store a csv/xls/xml file. When I perform a 'select * from my_table' within Management Studio the column data returned is sporadic...some rows are filled out and some are not. When performed on an XP machine all of the data is returned (every row's column is filled out). Is this a known issue? I tried searching for it but didn't find anything.
i have created a sql database in visual studio pro and now i would like to connect to that database in SQL server managamenet studio. so when i start SQL server i connect to the same instance as my database (wich is .SQLEXPRESS) but i can't find my database in the object explorer?

Thanks a lot.

I just created a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005 management studio. I went to my db and expanded the programmability folder then right clicked the stored procedures folder and created a stored procedure. I saved the procedure as sp_getDistance in the default folder SQL managment studio picked. Now when I went back to that stored procedure folder I did not see my stored procedure sp_getDistance, all that was there was the system stored procedure folder. Did I save the stored procedure in the wrong place, or what did I do wrong. I can't find the procedure anywhere, its just sitting in my My DocumentsSQL Server Management StudioProjectssp_getDistance.sql folder. Thanks,Kyle Spitzer
I have a sql server ce db file that I use in my pocket pc application. It seems to be working until I try to edit my .sdf file in SQL Server (2005) Managment Studio. After this I cannot open modified file in my application.
I receive native exception error when I call Open method for Connection object: ExceptionCode: 0xc0000005 ExceptionAddress: 0x03f8aaac Reading: 0x00000010
When I edit .sdf file in another pc it's all working.
My config is: windows vista business .net compact framework 2.0 sp2 sql server 2005 sql server 2005 compact edition sql server 2005 compact edition server tools sql server 2005 compact edition tools for visual studio 2005
I've created a new database and restored the database from a backup. I'm wanting to import raw data from an excel spreadsheet into the tables of the new database.
When I right click on the database, and hover over tasks the import/ export data menu options are not in the menu. The menu items ends at 'Generate Scripts'.
I'm connected on a local instance to a registered server.
i have made some Data Mining Model Examples in Excel 2007 (not temporarily!). They where there after leaving an re-opening Excel. I have used them several times. Then I want to look, if I can see them also via SQL Server Managment Studio in the Analysis Services. There where nothing in the DMAddInDB in Analysis Services.
And after this, in Excel my DataMining Models have disappeared and all Models i have made since this disappeared also.
Perhaps I have destroyed the database. But will this happen every time? Can I share Data Mining Models I have made with Excel with Projects in SQL Server Analysis Services?
I received the trial 2005 Enterprise edition software to give 2005 a shot. Everything installed fine but no Managment Studio to interface with it. All the documentation I read (like this http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms174173.aspx ) just expects the software to be there.
I can't find it as a download. Does anyone know what the deal is?
Until now I was using SQLServer Express edition and whenever I wanted to log in Management Studio In the Server Name section I used to wirte MyComputernameSQLExpress
but now I'm going to use Enterprise edition
what should I write in the Server Name section to log in Management studio??
So I installed standard edition of sql server x64 and sp2.
I can only find configuration tools in "All Programs/Microsoft SQL Server 2005/Configuration Tools/4 applications", I give all rights etc to my user, but where is managment studio..?
Hi Everyone, I am using SQL Server 2005 with SQL Management Studio. What I am trying to do is move tables and stored procedures from one database on one server to another database which is on a different server. Essentially, I am trying to move tables and stored procedures from a database on my local computer to a database on our staging server I was told the best way to do this would be to use a linked server. I have been trying to set one up using managment studio but right clicking on server-object and choosing 'new ---> Linked Server' but I have not been able to successfully create the connection. Can anyone out there explain me to me how to setup the linked server using SQL 2005 Management Studio? Thanks!
I have a database with an update trigger, which shows up under the Triggers object in the database tree. When I modify the item and try to save it it prompts me for a disk location to save the query. I then reopen the item on the db tree, and it shows the old code. What am I doing wrong?
SQLServer2005_SSMSEE in my notebook with vista business and nearly the end of installation the process is cancelled by an error. its necessary install some application before? SQL Server Express is installed by default in the notebook.
thaks a lot and excuse for my bad english (bettr more for me is SPANISH)
I am currently in the process of setting up an SQL Server Express installation that comes packaged with an application I have written. My problem is that I want to use SQL Server user management (not just windows users) which work fine if I set them up manually. I started writing a script that I have SSEUtil execute once the application is fully installed (a step in my installation script) which sets up the users and passwords etc. The script is similar to the following:
ALTER USER user1 WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = MySchema ALTER USER user2 WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = MySchema ALTER USER user3 WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = MySchema ALTER USER user4 WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = MySchema GO
REVOKE ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table1 FROM MyRole REVOKE ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table2 FROM MyRole REVOKE ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table3 FROM MyRole REVOKE ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table4 FROM MyRole GO
EXEC sp_DropRole 'MyRole' EXEC sp_AddRole 'MyRole' GO
GRANT ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table1 TO MyRole GRANT ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table2 TO MyRole GRANT ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table3 TO MyRole GRANT ALTER,DELETE,INSERT,SELECT,UPDATE ON MySchema.Table4 TO MyRole GO
Now if I run this script from within SQL Server Management Studio it executes perfectly. The logins add, the role is added, each user is added to the database logins and assigned to the role, the schema is set correctly on each user.
Then when I try to run the exact same script from the SSEUtil application (SSEUTIL -s PCNAMEInstance -run USERS.SQL), it processes everything, except the Logins.
This is frustrating as it means to install for a client I would need to either get them to open the management console and run the script from there, or I have to go to site just to setup users.
Am I on the right track? Or is there another way to automate the adding of Logins?

I am fully confident that you guys will help me out from this problem. Looking forward
I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:
Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.
I can ping the server
I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled
I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?
I download and install SQL Server Express release version.(Install successfully) Then I install the new tool "Management Studio Express", and I use it to connect to an instance SQL Server to manage a database.(Install successfully)
Then I close the Management Studio Express. And I install books on line on my computer. (Install successfully)
After i want to open one more time the tool Management Studio BUT ANYTHING. If I uninstall books online and then try again to open Management tool it pass.
What is the problem with new tool??
Why when i install books online I cannot open again Management Studio??
I would move a Database to another server. I try to use DTS but I have problems with this process because DB have big tables, I think. I try to use DETACH and ATTACH procedures but logins doesn't export. And more, in new server there are already logins from another DBs.
What's the best way to solve this problem? Please, help Thanks
I am a systems analyst and work with an app that runs against 2 SQL Server DBs. Though I have some familiarity with SQL Server and SQL, I am not a DBA.
The app executable is tied to a Windows service. When we install the app, we run a process that builds 2 dbs to include: Tables, indexes, stored procedures, views and user accounts. SQL Server is set up for mixed mode authentication.
Normally, the dbs run off the local db user accounts which are tied to local logins with the same names. We have a client that wants to remove our standard logins so that they can run on only a Windows login. I know I should be able to tie the db users to a Windows login. And I can do the same for the service.
But I am at a loss as to how to get this done. How do you associate db users with a Windows login? When I have tried sp_change_users_login I get an error that the Windows login does not exist. (Though I have added the Windows account to the DB.)
ok, first, I know... I forgot to run a backup of the master database, and I forgot to run a script to caputure logins. Not that that is out of the way... I need to recreate the logins under the Securities tab below the databases. All the company databases have the user names and passwords assigned to them, but they are not able to login, because they are not able to authenticate to the SQL server first.
Is there a script that someone has that will copy the company database security info for the users and recreate them in the SQL security tab?
I know that I can rebuild them manually, but I need to delete them first in the application software, then delete them from the databases, and then recreate them in the application software... and as simple as that sounds... it is a slow moving process.
I have a data base made in MS access and i wanted to know if it is possible to import it into MS SQL server management. If it is possible could somebody write an example, from which i can learn how do i do that?
Thank you for your time and help Best regards, BoSCHoW.
I have hundreds of these errors saying 'Login failed for user 'Reporting' The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection [CLIENT: ip address]
The ip address is that of the server that sql server is installed on.
Looking in my log file, all looks good until I get to Service Broker manager has started, then I get Error: 18452, Severity: 14 State: 1 then these two lines repeat about every minute, for the last 3 days!
I think I must have just missed a tick box somewhere, but where?
I have been into one of the databases, and input and checked data, both via an application I wrote and SQL Server Management Studio.
I am also having trouble connecting using my application to connect to the database, I can only connect if I use a Windows administrator account (this SQL Server 2005 running on a Windows 2003 Server, with the app on PC running Windows 2000)
We have a machine with SQL Server 2005 Express installed and we use to have no problems connecting to this using the management studio using Windows Authentication. Since yesterday when we open the management studio and press connect using Windows authentication, the logon dialog remains active but does not disappear. In the backgroung I can see the name of the instance on the machine and after a few seconds it goes to green, to show its connected but I can't do anything without cancelling the logon. If I cancel the logon, it sets it is not connected to any server, if i try to launch the instance from the registered servers, with the green connected symbol it hangs.
I have left the logon dialog overnight (14 hours) and it still did not disappear. I am looking at any patches that may have been installed but none since the end of May...does anyone else have a similar problem?
INSERT #Visits (OpportunityID, ActivityID, FirstVisit, ScheduledEnd) SELECT 1, 1001, '2014-08-17', '2014-08-17 12:00:00.000' UNION ALL SELECT 1, 1002, '2014-08-17', '2014-08-17 17:04:13.000' UNION ALL SELECT 2, 1003, '2014-08-18', '2014-08-18 20:39:56.000' UNION ALL
Basically I'd like to mark the first Activity for each OpportunityID as a First Visit if its ScheduledEnd falls on the same day as the FirstVisit, and otherwise mark it as a Repeat Visit.
I have this so far, but it doesn't pick up on that the ScheduledEnd needs to be on the same day as the FirstVisit date to count as a first visit:
SELECT*, CASE MIN(ScheduledEnd) OVER (PARTITION BY FirstVisit) WHEN ScheduledEnd THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS isFirstVisit, CASE MIN(ScheduledEnd) OVER (PARTITION BY FirstVisit) WHEN ScheduledEnd THEN 0 ELSE 1 END AS isRepeatVisit FROM#Visits
I have a database in my "App_Data" folder of my visual studio project. I can view it fine in Visual Studio's built-in tools for managing a database attached to a solution. However i recently started playing around with the SQL Server Management Studio Express program. When i attach my database to Management Studio, and try to run my program it crashes. I think it might be a permissions error?!? When i detatch it and reattach it in visual studio it runs fine again. Any suggestions? ThanksJason
I recently installed the Evaluation Edition of SQL Server 2005 x64 and it appears that MS Visual Studio 2005 is installed in stead of SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio. When I choose new project the only template available is "Blank Solution". How do I get all the templates (i.e. Analysis Server Project, Integration Services Project, Report Model Project, Report Server Wizard project, etc.)?
Or would it be better to uninstall MS Visual Studio 2005 and attempt to reinstall BIDS?
