16 Bit-client Utilities

I am going to upgrade a SQL server 6.5 box to SQL7.0. The 16 bit-client utilities are a prerequisite because there is a 16-bit application and requires some of the database libraries. My question is how does SQL7.0 deal with 16-bit application? In my case, could I upgrade the SQL6.5 box to SQL7.0?

Oct 16, 1998I am looking for good utilities that document MS SQL table schema, indexes, layouts etc. I am currently looking at SQL auditor, but this product does not give me table schema or any kind of device revisions. I recently was given several SQL servers that have not been documented in any way.

Client Utilities For MSDE

I heard from a guy that the client utilities (Enterprice Manager and Query Analyser) that are on the Sql Server 2000 CD can be fetched separatly from Microsoft and that they can be deployed with MSDE to a potential customer.
Is that correct?
And if it is, where can I obtain those client apps?

DTS Version Control Utilities?
Jun 15, 2001We are looking for utilities to help us manage DTS packages. Specifically to help us track changes in the packages in a fairly fine-grained fashion; several layers deeper than the version listing under package info, for example. Think of it as an object-oriented diff utility if you will, something that can report on changes in a package very specifically; for example, we need to know that step 4 of a package is a SQL widget and the text has changed between versions, and what the changes are. Converting the package to a VB project & versioning the source text doesn't work, for several reasons too complicated to state here.
Is there aything like this available? We would rather buy than build, but I haven't seen anything like this yet. If anyone has experience with such a utility I would appreciate knowing about this. Thanks.

Jul 23, 2005Folks,I work on a system which is growing rapidly, with the number oftransactions we process growing on a daily basis. While this is goodnews or the business, maintenance is starting to become an issue as thedatabase is the backend for a website which cannot be down for alengthy period of time.While I do defrag the indexes, periodically the indexes do need to berebuilt. When this happens, the process locks pages and transactionsstart getting bounced out.Are their any third party utilities which will rebuild an indexwithout this locking occuring? CLR Programming: Best Place To Define Utilities Functions

I find the CLR integration very handy and I would like to use it in the proper way but I need some helps because is not easy to find "best practice" programming info.
This is what I have to do: from a "period" coming from the DB I have to compute start/End date and save them in the DB.
The computation involves regular expression and several functions that makes several calculations on date type variable.
I have created my UserDefinedFunction class that contains the TV function to return a row with 2 fields (startdate,enddate).
Now my question is: what is the base place to define my utilities functions that perform the computation?
In the same class or it is better to add a new class?
For example I have created a module that contains all the Regular expressions patterns.
Any help is appreciated!

We have a Windows 2003 Web Edition server serving a site through IIS. It connects to a Windows 2003 Standard Edition server running SQL 2000 SP3a.

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Should have 330 rows if it works right.

Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

My application is running fine, as i can login to it and also able to view pages. But when i open Order management(having 3K records) its give me error,

- SSL disabling enforce security false as mentioned in microsoft kb article.
And there's nothing any issue with hardware/firewall as my application's login and other forms are working fine(which use same database with same connection string)
Can any one please help me to solve this error?

Jan 9, 2006I use sqlclient to connect directly from my mobile 5 pocketpc to a sql server 2005 database on my desktop.
I use a sqldatareader to traverse the results of a query that delivers 2 fields: (1) the filespec, and (2) the image field.
I use a filestream with a binary writer to write the contents of the image data to the pocketpc's storage card.
I have a test table with 10 images, not one more than 4 MB. I cannot complete a test run prior to receiving the general network error.
The pocketPC is connected via activesync to the desktop, and I connect to the database with:
Integrated Security=false;
user id=sa
password=admin.
Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.

I have created a custom dll file for report and put this dll in appropriate folder.
Report is running fine in designer project.
but when I am trying to view this report after uploading to report manager it give me an error like

Dec 10, 2007I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Moving A SQL Server 2005 Database From The Local Network To An Online Server.

I have done a bit of searching around and cant find a clear answer to this question.
Current Setup
Desktop application (c#) that connects to a SQL Server 2005 express database on the same local network as the application (currently 3 users)
It is only a very small company and has just taken on their first remote worker, but expects to take on another 6-8 over the next few months. They have asked for the database to be moved online.
The application was written in such a way that everything has been done using no stored procs, or views, it is all native SQL.
This will be my first DB hosted online and before I go ahead and do anything I just wanted to make sure what I have to do is correct, sorry if this is a very basic question, although I have been programming for a long time, I have never had the chance to do any online databases before.
Will this work.
1.Find a SQL Server 2005 Hosting company.
2.Move the database to the server.
3.Setup the users permissions.
3.Alter the connection string in the application to point to the new location.
So the only thing that would change would be a new connection string in the application preferences?
Or am I living in a dream world, because nothing is ever that simple.
One thing I am worried about is the security/visiblity of the database and data as it travels from the server to the client and back.

A Newly Placed ISA Server (2006) Is Not Allowing My IP Phones Register To A Remote Proxy Server Outside My Network

Hi all,
I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.
My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.
I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.
Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.
I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand

We need to get this data to our web site sql 2005 database which is not connected to our network. Can somebody advise me on which would be the best and most secure way? Should i use Web Services to communicate between the network and the web server or use some other method like FTP, smtp?

When I tried to access it from my workstation (Windows XP Pro), using SQL Server Management Studio, theres no list of Network Server available. Anything that I should configure first?

Hello all,
I have 2 networked PC's both running vista ultimate
1st is Laptop and is running its own SQL Server at laptoplaptopSQL
2nd is Desktop and is running its own SQL Server at desktopdesktopSQL
Now both machines have seperate windows login accounts.
When I go SQL Server management studio I go to browse and each machine can see the other machines SQL Server, but when I go to login I get SQL Login falied for users" The user is not associaed with a trusted SQL server connection".
So I then go to logins new login and try to add my other pc's user account.
The problem I see is that when I go to search and then location it only shows its own PC's location and not the location of my other networked pc? So if I am on Desktop and in my theory want to add laptopuser to the desktop SQL Server logins I get:
