In Start menu SQL server group I have only Client Network Utility :|
Is it a command line tool or sth? How to install it?

after installing the SQL Express. The Named Pipes and tcp/ip is in disable protocols only.
How do i enble the named pipes and tcp/ip through the command line installtion.

I'm getting errors in EM when trying to connect to one of my registered servers. When the Client Network utility is using TCP/IP as the default protocol I get:
A connection could not be established to xxxxx - General network error. Check your network
documentation. ConnectionOpen (connect())...
But if I switch to use Named Pipes I connect just fine.
This worked just fine up until last week.. We're going through Tokenring to Ethernet conversions.. Is this a bigger network issue?

Is there an INF file or a registry entry for the client network utility that I can move from machine to machine? I hate having to re-enter all of my SQL servers and alias' every time I install Tools on a new machine...Any help is greatly appreciated!!

1) I am getting back into SQL more than before, in my new job. I need to find the service pack installed on the clients who have the Client Network Utility installed. I do not remember how to do this.
2) Running 'Select @@VERSION' on the server returns 7.00.1063 but does not indicate the service pack. Does this still mean sp4 has been installed?
I'm trying to ensure we'll all up to date since our dual 700 procs are acting eratic...jumps between 10 - 95% or so.
Server info:
NT Server SP6
SQL 7.0
2GB Ram
2 procs @ 700Mhz
Roughly 80 network connections.
No other programs running on server except Antivirus.

I am trying to do BCP from a comma separator .txt file to upload it into two tables. That is I want the first row (4 columns of header details ) into one table and from the second row (21 columns each of detail rows) to be uploaded into another table. I have written a batch file to upload the header details by giving the first and last column as 1.It is working fine. But when I try to upload the detail rows into another table by giving the first row as 2, the bcp is not able to read from the second row. It skips the second row and reads from the third row. This happens for all separators like pipeline separators also.So to avoid this I have to give blank 21 separators(i.e. , or |) in the second row to avoid the loss of data. Please provide a solution for this, as I cannot insist my customer to provide me a text file with blank comma in the second row.

the system throws an error.

I have just installed sql 2005 with sp2 and now I am trying to connect with other databases but when I try to register, it gives me an error stating something about not enabling "remote connection"..but checked the boxs and they are set to connect remotely...any ideas?

While reinitializing a Subscriber, I got the error "The row was not found at the Subscriber when applying the replicated command." I would like to identify the location of the data to fix at the Subscriber. In the interim, I changed the Distribution agent from the default to "Continue replication on data consistency errors," which successfully replicated changes, except for the errors. Is the stored procedure sp_publication_validation the only option for SQL Server 2000? This ran successfully after the replicated changes were processed.

I have checked all of my instances. The all work with windows authentication and sql server authentication.
I have used the surface area configration manager to allow 'everything' and rebooted my machine.
I have tested each through osql. I have turned my firewall on an off. The problem stilll persists.

I'm trying to learn how to use the bcp utility... but I keep getting an error message that says:

Any ideas or tips on solving this issue? We've noticed it is due to larger queries as smaller ones do work with no problems.
The servers are behind a BSD box running iptables, has 1433,1434 along with standard web ports wide open. Anything outbound is allowed.
Some further testing via ODBC on the IIS server improved things. No more connection pooling for the SQL Server driver allows for 1/3 of the query to run. Still 2/3s of it doesn't show up, and that general network error message appears.
Should have 330 rows if it works right.

Does somebody knows why?
I am running the DTS from a computer (not the server where the DTS is stored) and it is connected without any problem when this happens.

I use sqlclient to connect directly from my mobile 5 pocketpc to a sql server 2005 database on my desktop.
I use a sqldatareader to traverse the results of a query that delivers 2 fields: (1) the filespec, and (2) the image field.
I use a filestream with a binary writer to write the contents of the image data to the pocketpc's storage card.
I have a test table with 10 images, not one more than 4 MB. I cannot complete a test run prior to receiving the general network error.
The pocketPC is connected via activesync to the desktop, and I connect to the database with:
Integrated Security=false;
user id=sa
password=admin.
Any help with this strange error would be greatly appreciated.

I have stumbled on a problem with running a large number of SSIS packages in parallel, using the €œdtexec€? command from inside an SQL Server job.
I€™ve described the environment, the goal and the problem below. Sorry if it€™s a bit too long, but I tried to be as clear as possible.
The environment:
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition, SQL Server 2005 32bit Enterprise Edition SP2.
The goal:
We have a large number of text files that we€™re loading into a staging area of a data warehouse (based on SQL Server 2k5, as said above).
We have one €œmain€? SSIS package that takes a list of files to load from an XML file, loops through that list and for each file in the list starts an SSIS package by using €œdtexec€? command. The command is started asynchronously by using system.diagnostics.process.start() method. This means that a large number of SSIS packages are started in parallel. These packages perform the actual loading (with BULK insert).
I have successfully run the loading process from the command prompt (using the dtexec command to start the main package) a number of times.
In order to move the loading to a production environment and schedule it, we have set up an SQL Server Agent job. We€™ve created a proxy user with the necessary rights (the same user that runs the job from command prompt), created an the SQL Agent job (there is one step of type €œcmdexec€? that runs the €œmain€? SSIS package with the €œdtexec€? command).
If the input XML file for the main package contains a small number of files (for example 10), the SQL Server Agent job works fine €“ the SSIS packages are started in parallel and they finish work successfully.
The problem:
When the number of the concurrently started SSIS packages gets too big, the packages start to fail. When a large number of SSIS package executions are already taking place, the new dtexec commands fail after 0 seconds of work with an empty error message.
Please bear in mind that the same loading still works perfectly from command prompt on the same server with the same user. It only fails when run from the SQL Agent Job.
I€™ve tried to understand the limit, when do the packages start to fail, and I believe that the threshold is 80 parallel executions (I understand that it might not be desirable to start so many SSIS packages at once, but I€™d like to do it despite this).
Additional information:
The dtexec utility provides an error message where the package variables are shown and the fact that the package ran 0 seconds, but the €œMessage€? is empty (€œMessage: €œ).
Turning the logging on in all the packages does not provide an error message either, just a lot of run-time information.
The try-catch block around the process.start() script in the main package€™s script task also does not reveal any errors.
I€™ve increased the €œmax worker threads€? number for the cmdexec subsystem in the msdb.dbo.syssubsystems table to a safely high number and restarted the SQL Server, but this had no effect either.

I downloaded the SSEUtilSetup.EXE and extracted the SSEUtil.exe to a folder of C:drive of my PC that is Windows XP Pro. I plan to learn the CLR programming via user-instance of SQL Server Express. I need to have SQL Server Express Utility installed. Please help and tell me how I can install SSEUtil.exe in my PC and how I use it to interact with SQL Server Express.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi All, first post.
I have done a bit of searching around and cant find a clear answer to this question.
Current Setup
Desktop application (c#) that connects to a SQL Server 2005 express database on the same local network as the application (currently 3 users)
It is only a very small company and has just taken on their first remote worker, but expects to take on another 6-8 over the next few months. They have asked for the database to be moved online.
The application was written in such a way that everything has been done using no stored procs, or views, it is all native SQL.
This will be my first DB hosted online and before I go ahead and do anything I just wanted to make sure what I have to do is correct, sorry if this is a very basic question, although I have been programming for a long time, I have never had the chance to do any online databases before.
Will this work.
1.Find a SQL Server 2005 Hosting company.
2.Move the database to the server.
3.Setup the users permissions.
3.Alter the connection string in the application to point to the new location.
So the only thing that would change would be a new connection string in the application preferences?
Or am I living in a dream world, because nothing is ever that simple.
One thing I am worried about is the security/visiblity of the database and data as it travels from the server to the client and back.

Hi all,
I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.
My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.
I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.
Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.
I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand

I am new to .net and asp.net. On my local network i have our accounting system using sql 2005 and also a have an access database. We need to get this data to our web site sql 2005 database which is not connected to our network. Can somebody advise me on which would be the best and most secure way? Should i use Web Services to communicate between the network and the web server or use some other method like FTP, smtp?

Can anybody enlighten me how SQL Server (7.0 or 2000)to bound itself to Network name and IP in DNS? (My question is about server level Name/IP matching rather than Client Network Utility setting).
