SQL Server Profiler On SBS 2003 R2 Premium
Mar 29, 2007
Ok, I have installed SQL 2005 in about 10 or so production environments and have SQL Server Profiler installed and working on 2003 servers, but I cannot get Profiler installed on a SBS 2003 R2 Premium server. Does anyone know how to get Profiler installed on a SBS 2003 R2 Premium server?
TIA,
Nick

In relation to my topic:
http://www.dbforums.com/t990566.html
I'm curious as to how much of a difference SQL-server will make to our databases.
Is there anyone who can tell me what kind of version of SQL-server ships with Small Business Server 2003 Premium edition?
I looked on the Microsoft website and it just states that
SQL-server 2000 is included with Small Business Server 2003 Premium edition.
Is there anyone who can help me?
Any thoughts link redirects tips are appreciated

All,
If this questions is misplaced please forgive me.
I have a customer who has a Win SBS 2003 Premium installation with a Win 2003 Standard member server running SQL 2000 housing a Practice Management App.
The new release of the Practice Management App only runs on SQL 2005.
My question is what are my options for obtaining SQL 2005 in the most cost effective way? The SBS Premium install was not a candidate for the 'free' upgrade to R2. Is there an 'upgrade' release of SQL 2005 for existing SBS Premium customers?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Ray

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise trial on Vista Home Premium. In the process of trying to get SQL Server Management Studio installed I ended up removing everything. Now when I try to install any tool, service, or database of SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise or SQLExpress) the install fails and says that a newer version is already installed but nothing is installed. Rollback my restore points fails too. Seems like I need to clean up the registry somehow????

Hello,
I'm trying to add a new connection in server explorer. The server will not appear
in the server drop down list, and when i manually type in the server and database name,
the connection fails saying
"An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server.
When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact
that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
(provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - could not open a connection
to SQL Server)"
I made sure the remote connections were on, and I am having no problems open
the sql connection in code.
Thanks in advance,

Hi Every One,
I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista Home Premium edition, when I run the Installer I received are the following error message.
IIS Feature Requirement (Warning)
Messages
IIS Feature Requirement
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
I already configure IIS7 with all feature, but system still generate above mentioned message.

I could not install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on my notebook with os Vista Home Premium. I know about the SP2 thing...but before coming that point, I can not either install the SQL Server 2005...
When installing,when the database services point comes it gives an error about user thing...and then installation starts to rollback...
I check the IIS configuration from the net...And see that while activating IIS there is no option for Windows Auth. in Home Premium in Control Panel>Program...>Windows Programs.....etc....
SO ON VISTA HOME PREMIUM is SQL SERVER 2005 Dev. Edition can be installed or not?

I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu.
Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message:
SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation.
Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person?
Thank you.

Hi,
I have Vista Home premium edition and trying to install SQL Server developer edition 2005 as local administrator. I have already enabled IIS 7 and have Office Ultimate 2007 installed. When I run the set up program, I get a warning titled "Program Compatibility Assistant" that my Operating system may not be compatible with the version of sql server I am installing. It says after setup is complete, I should run SP2 of SQL Server 2005 with 3 buttons as "Check for solutions online", "run this program" and "cancel"...
My question, should I select "run this program" and after the setup completes, download SP2 and apply the patch?
I read some articles in forums that sounds like lot of issues to get sql server working on vista. Can some one direct me to correct options. This is my wife's machine so I dont want to experiment too much and blow her machine away. Please help.
Thanks,
Gaja

I have SQL Express 2005 SP2 installed in my Vista Home Premium. I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to manage .mdf.
When I click "Add..." to attach .mdf database, I have this prompt error message :
The server principal "My-PCMyName" is not able to access the database "model" under the current security context. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 916)
I have elevated the rights, "Run as administrator", of my SQL Server Management Studio Express, but still having problem.
I also encounter security error when detaching the existing .mdf :
The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_detach_db', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
Please advice. Thanks.

I need to import an SQL string from MS Excel 2003 to SQL SERVER 2000.
The string I need to import is composed by 5 different several blocks and looks like:
Code Snippet
CommandLine01 = "USE mydb"
CommandLine02 = "SELECT Block ..."
CommandLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"
CommandLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."

to use multi - batch processing to import the string to SQL SERVER, something like:
Code Snippet

'set the properties and open a connection
cmd1="use my_db"
cmd2="create table mytb"
cmd3="insert into mytb"
SqlCnt.execute cmd1
SqlCnt.Execute cmd2
SqlCnt.Execute cmd3
Below is the code (just partial) I have, and I need help to complete it.
Thanks in advance,
Aldo.
Code Snippet
Function TestConnection()
Dim ConnectionString As New ADODB.Connection
Dim RecordSet As New ADODB.RecordSet
ConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};Server=myServer;Database=myDBName;Uid=UserName;Pwd=Password"
ConnectionString.Open
CmdLine01 = " USE " & myDB
CmdLine02 = " SELECT ACCOUNTS.FULLNAME FROM ACCOUNTS" ...
CmdLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"
CmdLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CmdLine05 = "SELECT Block..."
RecordSet.Open CmdLine01, ConnectionString
RecordSet.Open CmdLine02, ConnectionString
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine01
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine02
'Retrieve Field titles
For ColNr = 1 To RecordSet.Fields.Count
ActiveSheet.Cells(1, ColNr).Value = RecordSet.Fields(ColNr - 1).Name
Next
ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 1).CopyFromRecordset RecordSet
'Close ADO objects
RecordSet.Close
ConnectionString.Close
Set RecordSet = Nothing

Hi I have a problem in my SQL Server 2005. This morning I got a message of "Low Disk Space" in the drive "C" of a virtual machine, when I looked at the directory:
C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Sharedweb server extensions12DataMSSQL.4MSSQLData
I found 454 sql server profiler - trace data files in that folder, one of them like this one: audittrace20080207220657_13.trc takes 204,800KB, and totally takes 89GB in that folder. That's why I got "Low Disk Space"
I know that we need profiler to troubleshoot data, view the event...but
these kind of .trc files were keep created in the "Data" folder in every 2 hours everyday and soon it will takes all the hard drive in the server.
Is there anything I can set in SQL Server 2005 or other settings to delete the profile over 1 week or so automaticlly to free the space in the server?
Thanks.

There is a bug in one of the service packs where Profiler (7.0) only traces one server (regardless of the server you tell it to trace). Can anyone tell me how to fix this or point me to a KB article? I thought this was fixed in SQL 7 SP 3, however I'm experiencing this problem with SP3 installed.

Can anyone help me on this one:
We have several SQL servers in our network. When we try to connect to any of these servers with SQL profiler, the connection is always made with the same server, irrespective of the servername we use.
There is no default server name used in the setting of SQL profiler application.
Thanks.

I am trying to create a trace that informs me when a stored proc is created, modified or dropped in a particular database. The trace event I have selected is TSQL->SQL:StmtCompleted. The only filter I have in place is on database ID. The ID value is set to the database containing the stored proc's I want to monitor.
If I drop a proc, I get an entry in the Profiler. However, if I add or modify a proc, I get nothing. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
BTW, adding another filter on object ID (1 for sysobjects or 8 for syscomments) doesn't help either.
Thanks.

Is the security granularity in SQL Server 2005 good enough that I can allow certain users to have permissions to use Profiler ONLY on their database with out granting them sysadmin privilege? I know that it uses the master database which makes it complex. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,
I am trying to access SQL Server Profiler while connected via a VPN. I am able to connect while I am physically on the network but when I connect via the VPN it gives me the following error:
Cannot connect to xxx.xxx.xxx
Additional Information:
Login timeout expired
An error has occured while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
Named Piped Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [53].
(pfutil90)
I am able to access the database and browse tables/run queries/etc. But only when I try to create a trace I get the error. Does SQL Profiler act funny when going through a VPN?
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
My client wants to encrypt data using sql server 2005 encryption mechanism. But one of the core requirements is that the DBA should not be able to decrypt my data on the SQL Server.
I have opted for the EncryptByPassPhrase option. But here is my problem:
I call the encryptByPassPhrase function within my stored procedures and I pass in the pass phrase as a parameter in Stored Proc call from the client intranet application.
The problem is that one can clearly see the passphrase in the Profiler when I call my stored procedures.
I did a bunch of research and found out that if I added a commented out "sp_password" command in my stored procedure, then the stored procedure call gets masked from the profiler. This seem to have been true with SQL Server 2000 but is not true for SQL Server 2005.
Does anyone know of a method to mark a stored procedure -- or a parameter to a stored procedure -- as masked so that either the call or the parameter value are masked ?
Thank You,
Tarin

Does this sound correct?
How do I create a new instance?
