I have a XP Pro machine that acts as our dev SQL machine, and I run my asp.net apps on my local machine (also XP Pro). I can connect (using QA) to the SQL Server just fine (using SQL Server authentication) but for some reason my ASP.net apps won't connect, even though I use the same connection string.
I get 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied.'
Do I need to set up special permissions or something on my ASPNET user to connect to the SQL Server machine? My local machine connects fine to several other SQL Servers including our off-site main serverfarm - so I can't work out what's different with this XP Pro box. I know my connection details are correct because EM and QA connects just fine with the same details.
We have an application that connects to a remote site's SQL server using aVPN client. It also uses a local MS SQL database located on one of ourservers. It seems once the VPN connection is established the client machineis always looking to the remote VPN connection/server for it's data. Itested this out by going into the ODBC applet and doing a "TEST CONNECTION"with the VPN client closed. The response was immediate and the connectionworked. Once I established the Internet VPN connection the connectionrepeatedly failed after a several seconds while it appeared to be looking onthe Internet for a local server.What can we do to fix this problem.Thanks,Charles MacleanMTS, Inc.
I've got a problem here logging on mssql server It seems to me that the problem is in ConnectionString When I add new connection to the project via Microsoft OLEDB provider for SQL Server I use login 'sa' and password 'pwd'. Then if I check 'Allow saving password' (or something like that - i use other language) everything works fine, but if i don't at last I get an error message Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'sa'. Hi to all.I'm trying to transact from an ASP.NET application in a machine with an SQL Server 2005 placed in a different machine. I can connect without problems from my application to the database, but the problems are when I need to transact with it. The error message I receive is "Network access for Distributed Transaction Manager (MSDTC) has been disabled. Please enable DTC for network access in the security configuration for MSDTC using the Component Services Administrative tool." (at code I'm using the TransacionScope object).On the first machine, where we have the Visual Studio 2005 and the application web environtment is placed, is an standard Windows XP Professional. On the MSDTC configuration I have checked outgoing and the firewall is down. On the second machine, where is placed my SQL Server 2005, I have all the checkboxs checked at the MSDTC Configuration, and I have the Windows Firewall enabled with the SQL Server and the MSDTC as exceptions, with the ports 1433 and 135 as exceptions too. At the SQL Server Configuration Manager I have as enabled the TCP/IP, the Named Pipes and Shared Memory at Protocols for MSSQLSERVER.When I'm using an SQL Server 2000 database the code works fine and I don't have problems.Any one can help me?Thanks in advance.Jesús
Hi! I have trouble using Visual C # 2008 EE and SQL Server 2005 EE. Together with SQL Server on this computer, I successfully using VC # 2005 Prof and Web Developer 2008 EE. A VC # 2008 EE, I can not add the new connection to SQL Server 2005 through SqlClient in Database Explorer .. simply because the Change Data Source dialog does not give me this opportunity, offering a choice only MS Access, MS SQL Server Compact 3.5 and MS SQL Server Database File. I note once again that, for example, the Web Developer everything works fine.
Hi, I had an old web application created during asp.net 1.1 and it have a connection problem with the sql server 2005 when it is mirgrated to a new webserver with dotnet framework 2.0 platform. I have enabled the remote access(TCP/IP and named pipes) in sql server 2005, did all the neccessary things, check whether the TCP/IP is enabled, named pipe is enabled... I created another web application using VS 2005. Occasionally I'm seeing the following error when tranlog or full backup maintenance plan is executing.
Failed-1073573396) Failed to acquire connection "Local server connection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
What is strange is that it goes away without any action from myself. We have a tranlog backup that is scheduled every hour. I had this error happen once in the middle of the night. It looks like the job was running fine because almost all the backups are there. I've searched and not found a resolution to this error. I checked the event log and don't see any issues and even tried rebuilding the maintenance plans.
Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. 1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"... The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

I have two machines, the one has Windows 2003 server and the other has Windows Xp Pro on.
The 2003 one has SQL Standard Edition 2000 on where as the XP Pro has MSDE 2000.
I'm trying to run a windows based app from the 2003 server and it connects to a database on the XP Pro PC.
When running the application i keep getting the following exception:
"A Transport-Level error has occured when sending the request to the server (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available)
After using Preformance monitor on the XP machine it seems that when the app starts and the user logins in it make a SQL connection but then the connection is lost then the exception pops up. then i click continue and try it again then it works, then a couple of secs when using the system it pops up again. The Performance Monitor Test shows that the SQL connection keep being lost. The network is fine. its has something to do with SQL and Named Pipes and stuff.
When running the app on the Xp machine and the Connection is made to the 2003 machine there is no problem.
There are other connection made to the Windows XP Machine but i doubt that it affects the app.
I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Note that this "Trusted connection" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Trusted_Connection=yes;" />...works but is less-than ideal because it uses a Trusted Connection rather than a Username/Password combination.
QUESTIONS... (A) What exactly does the error in Item 4 mean? (B) Do 4 and 5 imply that one must use a Trusted_Connection for all SQL Server 2005 Express connection strings when the database does not reside in the web application's App_Data folder or use a "Attach a database file" type of connection string? When using jdbc with IntegratedSecurity, I run into this problem when the machine is not part of a domain & gets its IP address via dhcp. Is this expected behavior or a bug in the jdbc driver.
The SQLServer and client application are installed on the same machine and a local admin is logged in, running the client app.

Let me set the stage of my testbed configuration: On Windows XP SP2, my default connection to the Internet is via wireless express card modem using EV-DO via Verizon Wireless. Let's call this connection A. I also have a traditional wireless network connection (802.11g) that is always enabled. Let's call this connection B. Connection A is always connected during normal business hours. Connection B is not and is often searching for a wireless network to connect to when nothing is in range.
Yesterday, connection B was continuously trying to connect to a wireless network not under my control, meaning that the connection was never established and notification messages continually popped up to complain of this fact. Over time, I've learned to ignore these messages and go on doing my daily work without much thought of the possible implications.
Then, things started to get odd. I was running our application, WebWatchBot, to perform some simple tests of various websites and servers, when I started to get messages from the application that database connectivity was lost, which is a message that pops up to inform the user that the connection is forcibly dropped by SQL Server. After a few moments, the connection to the database was re-established and the message went away. Since I was actually working with SQL Server, I thought it was an anomoly, so I continued on. Then, it happened again. And again. Then, I noticed that the "database connectivity lost" message started to coincide with the wireless connection's (connection B) inability to connect with a wireless network.
Why would this be happening? The database and application are on the same exact computer. The connection to the database is via ODBC drivers over tcp/ip, but why would connection B affect this?

I have a child package where the ConnectionString property of a Connection Manager is set by a Parent Package Variable Configuration. I set up a script task that brings up a message box with the value of the ConnectionString property right before the dataflow task.
MessageBox.Show(Dts.Connections["CPU_*"].ConnectionString.ToString());When I run the parent package, the message box shows that the connection string is changing with every iteration, but in the dataflow it always draws the data from the same source.
The connection manager is an ADO.Net type, RetainSameConnection is set to False, and I've been researching this for days.
(Update 2/23/2015): To make this stranger, when I look at the diagnostic logs, they tell me that when the new connections are being opened they are using the new connection strings.
Dear members,I'am thinking about the "best" way to connect to my sql-server viaADO.Net (if there is a best way).My application uses the sql-server very intensively. I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition. I have two SQL Server instances installed. 1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)2- UserLTSQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance) But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error: Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925 I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default) and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLTSQL2005". But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

I used to be successful to connect to the SQL Server but now I CAN NOT.
Not: I try to run SQL Server 2005 but I can not, even I logged on to my computer with an administrator rights. On the other hand I can start and stop the SQL Server Express easily.

I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005 Express, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:

i searched the internet but can't find the solution, i already reinstalled my complete workstation but the problem stays.
I need to do testing on capturing connection coming from outside using Profiler. Basically I need to do something from other SQL servers connecting to this SQL server and test if it is captured by profiler.
In SQL 2008 R2, if we clone an environment including SQL server, the maintenance plans retain a connection string to the source/original server they got cloned from and are not editable. But, I was able to use a work around by editing them in BIDS and saving them back on the server. But now with 2014, I am facing two issues:
1.I still can edit the package to correct the server connection, with SSDT; but the option to save back to the server is not available any longer!
2.I used to be able to see all my plans under SSIS in 2008 R2 but not in 2014 now. Although, they are listed in SSMS!
I'moving my asp application to a new hosting server.
So when i tried the setup locally with the live DB & application in my test machine... The DB access is denied when application tries to hit the DB.
DB is in seperate machine with SQL Server 2000 & application(ASP) is in Windows server 2003..... Kindly help me with your suggestions....on what went wrong?

I€™ve developed a BI system using the SQL Server 2005 Developer€™s Edition.
SSAS, SSIS and SSRS have been added to a SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Server in preparation for delivering the developed database to this live environment.
So I am able to connect directly to the Database Engine, SSAS, SSIS and SSRS successfully from the actual SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition box which is sat on a Windows 2003 Server operating system.
However when I launch SQL Server Management Studio from a desk top PC which is connected to the SQL Server Standard Edition box I can€™t connect to either SSIS or SSRS, however I can connect to the Database Engine and it also seems that I can connect to SSAS OK.
I am using Windows Authentication where the I used a SQL Server account which exists with €œsysadmin€? permissions and this SQL Server account has the same login name as the Windows Server 2003 desktop login.
