SQL Server Crashed, DB Files Attached But ..

Dec 29, 2005

Hi, paws.
My server crashed recently, I didn't give to much importance because I knew that having access to the partitions I could recover my DB files and attach my database to my new server, and everything was fine until ... I found that my DTS Packages and Jobs where not in my Attached DB.
Now, where can I find these ?
Can you help a tormented man ?
Thanks in advance.

Hard Drive Crashed. Master && User Db Mdf && Ldf Files Lost

Jan 31, 2006

Hello.

One of our hard drives has crashed and as a result we have lost our master mdf/ldf & user db mdf/ldf files. It's not that a critical system by any means, but if the hard drive crashes and the master mdf/ldf files & user db mdf/ldf are lost, is there any way of restoring the system?

I'm thinking we probably need to re-install Enterprise Manager completely, and re-install the user db from a backup.

Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

SQL Attached Mdf Database Files VS Database Imported Into Or Created In SQL Server 2005

Apr 8, 2007

Hi all (newbie @ asp.net)(oldie @ ASP 3)What is the purpose of using an attached MDF database files in the App_Data folder on a web site as to importing it into the SQL server directly or creating it on the SQL server. Does a mdf database attached file purely use the SQL server as a connection interface. Is it something similiar to DSN(ODBC) Connections for ms access databases.

Detached Vs Attached Database Files

Nov 11, 2007

Hello all,
I'm using SQL 2005 Express edition. I'm currently connecting to the database file directrly (from ASP.NET) and that db file is not attached to the server.
My question is this:
What is the difference ? Will the performance improve if the db is attached and I connect to it throught the server ? I'm really not sure what the difference is.
Thanks

Server Crashed/Need To Move SQL 2000 DB

Jul 20, 2005

We needed to replace our Motherboard on a server running win 2K Adv.Server with SQL server 2000. After replacing, we could not bringthe system back with the previous OS. So, we have decided tomigrate to Windows 2003 server and install SQL svr on it.On the old server, the SQL DB is residing on a seperate disk.Is there any way one can install SQL on the new server and importthe data from the disk. Many posts talk about how to do detach/attach etc.The case there is they have a running source server. In my case, I don't.any pointers will be appreciatedRegards,Anand

Using Mdf Not Attached To SQL Server

Aug 31, 2006

Hi.  I am using VS 2005 and I want to create a database file (mdf) and have it on my server, but not have it attach to an instance of SQL server.  Is this possible? The hosting I am using only allows for 1 SQL DB, and obviously doesn't allow you to attach instances of a DB.  I would rather go with an mdf file that access, but not sure if this is possible. If anyone knows if it is and how to pull it off it would be GREAT!!

Login failed for user 'IN-XYZmattaniah'.

If I create a database and connect to it using SSPI I do not get this error. I assume there is something I am missing.

SQL Server DB As Service Or Attached File ?

Apr 2, 2007

Hello,

I was wondering about the principles of SQL Server. In all of my books, they show me to attach the DB, even create the DB through Visual Studio 2005. Which creates a .mdf file and a .ldf file.

Ok, but I cannot open those files through SQL Server Management. The only DB I am able to manage through SQL Server Management is the ones created with it.

So my question is: For a Multi-User type Application, is there a problem to attach a network based file through VS2005, the same way as an access file ?

Again my keyword here is Multi-User. Sorry if this myth be a stupid question but I am used to MSAccess. SQL Server is a lot more complexe and I don't want to start in the wrong direction.

Thank you for your response.

Applying Service Packs To SQL Server 2000 Instance Attached To Sql Server 2005

Jan 8, 2008

Hi,

I have an interesting situation here. I have a SQL Server 2000 database which is attached to SQL Server 2005. The database (SQL 2000) however only has service pack 3 applied. I need to apply SP4 before I can move forward with SQL 2000->2005 upgrade. The question: can I somehow apply this support package with my current configuration or should I install full SQL 2000 front-end anew (which I don't have at the moment)? Whenever I try to run SQL 2000 SP4 it complains "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine."

The server I try to install the update is Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition x64. SQL Server 2000 database itself is x86 (obviously).

Thanks.

Ms Sql Mdf Database File Attached Vs Created On Sql Server

May 27, 2007

Hi allI have a question concerning sql database mdf files. In the old days I would user a ms access database. This file would be stored with the actual web files and would utilise a dsn connection. I have noted when designing with vwd 2005 express it allows you to use 2 methods of creating a mdf database. You can either create it as an attachment mdf or you can create it directly using sql manager. My question is, if you create the mdf database as an attachement file can you store it in the same manner as if you where using a ms access database, meaning can you store it with the web site's files so it uses the file storage allocated size and then create a connection similar to a dsn (but for sql) to the isp's sql engine or does it have to be uploaded to the isp' s sql server. The reason for this question is some of my customers do not want to pay the extra cost to have an sql allocation, however I do not want to go back to using old asp methods to create advanced sites as I prefer using stored procedures. Any help will be appreciated

Query Sql Server Table Attached In Access

Jan 10, 2007

Hello,

I have attached a Sql Server table in an Access database.

This wasn't a problem, I can open my attached table from Access, use it in queries.

Now I'm trying to open it from an asp page, for example :

SQL="SELECT * FROM myAttachedTable"
Set Rs= server.createobject("ADODB.Recordset")
Rs.Open SQL, myAccessConnectionString , 3, 4

I get :

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

[Microsoft][Pilote ODBC Microsoft Access] ODBC -- failed connection to 'My SQL Server'.

again if I enter the same sql query directly in Access it all works.

What am I missing ?

Thanks a lot

Database Crashed?

Nov 14, 2007

Hi,

I'm unsure what happened, but I'm using SQL Server 05 Developer Edition. I've been working with a local database where I tried to add a clustered index on a huge table (about 50M records). Well, I had to stop the query since it was maxing out my work computer. Since then, I've been unable to open the database or run queries against it.

When I open SQL Server Management Studio the database says In Recovery. Once it's done, when I try to expand tables, I eventually get this error:

If I run a Select * from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES query, it will go on for a while

If I try to access the properties of the Database (right clicking), I get this error:

Crashed Db Recovery

Hello,

i've got MS Windows Server 2003 OS (RAID 10) and MS SQL 2005, however server crashed with "blue death" screen. After forced reset, SQL server marked my db as a SUSPECT. Tried DBCC CHECKDB with no luck, what can i do to bring it back to life, please? (have no backup).

Msg 926, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Database 'IRIX' cannot be opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery. See the SQL Server errorlog for more information.
Msg 824, Level 24, State 2, Line 1
SQL Server detected a logical consistency-based I/O error: incorrect pageid (expected 1:182; actual 32:7602287). It occurred during a read of page (1:182) in database ID 5 at offset 0x0000000016c000 in file 'D:MSSQLIRIX.mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log or system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online.

SQL Server 2008 :: Automatically Execute Script Once Database Has Been Attached

our clients have the flexibility to detach and attach databases (I know there are a lot of considerations around this but there is now way of changing it), once they attach a database we need to run some code to update a bunch of values in the database.

Other than creating a SQL Agent job are there any other options available to automatically execute a script once the database has been attached?

Upgrade Crashed Stored Procedures

Jun 21, 1999

We ran a test upgrade from SQL 6.5 to SQL 7.0. Everything worked great except we have one stored procedure (and it's an important one) which when run immediately after the upgrade, was fine. It ran in about 15 minutes which is normal.

However, when it was run the second time to retest it, it took 2-1/2 hours to run, then the third time it took almost 6 hours to run. There are no errors in the error log and I've used SQL Profiler to run on trace just on this stored procedure but it really doesn't show anything unusual except that it takes a long time to run this procedure.

The next step we took was to install SP1 thinking maybe there was a problem with a cursor, but that just seemed to make it worse.

Nothing else has changed. This stored procedure runs great on 6.5.

Does anyone have any clue why this might be happening. I dropped the procedure and recreated it, I've recompiled it, etc. and still the same results.

Help - Can't Connect To Database After Computer Crashed During Table Alteration

Mar 26, 2007

I was altering a few columns (setting to allow nulls) on a large table (30+ million records) and the machine naturally crashed. I rebooted, and now I can't connect to the DB - enterprise manager hangs, and query analyzer times out. is it likely the whole DB is screwed up, assuming the table alteration was incomplete?

thankfully, I do have a backup, but for future reference, is there a preferred way to make changes to large tables? last time I did this it took over an hour, and enterprise manager gives no progress indication to make me feel more comfortable that it's actually doing something...

Linked Server To Text Files: Is Possible To Detect Changes Made To Those Files? (SQL Server 2005)

Sep 3, 2007

Hi gurus,

I've created a linked server (and set up the corresponding schema.ini file) in order to perform bulk-inserts from some CSV text files into SQL tables (from my standpoint the text files are just for reading purposes). The linked server works fine (I can select the data in the files without a problem).

Now the question: is possible to automatically detect when one or more of those files change in order to start the import process automatically? Something like having a trigger created on the CSV files Or there's no easy way to do that so I have, to say something, to create a Job that periodically checks if the files have changed programatically (say, recording each file's timestamp everytime is imported and comparing the recorded value with the current one, or whatever)?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Attached In Vb8 Vs Vb6 Incompatability

Oct 10, 2006

I have two programs which access sql server 2005. One was written in vb6 the other in vb8 (aka vb.net 2005).

vb6 works well with this connection string:

Provider=SQLNCLI;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Database=MyDbName;Data Source=.MyServerInstanceName

vb8 (in vs2005) generated the following connection string which works well in the vb8 application:

Data Source=.MyServerInstanceName;AttachDbFilename='C:MyDbPathMyDbName.mdf';Integrated Security=True

Within their own programs each connection string works well. However, if I use one program and then the other (e.g., vb8 program then vb6), I get an error message:

Unable to open the physical file "C:MyDbPathMyDbName.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot acces the file because it is being used by another process.)".

If I detach the database using SSMS, I can then access it with the other program. Obviously, this is not an ideal situation and not something I would want the end user to have to do.

Also, when using the vb6 connection string, SSMS lists the database in Object Explorer as: MyDbName. When using the vb8, the database is listed as C:MyDbPathMyDbName.mdf. BTW, the database is set for multi-user.

How can I get the two programs to place nice together?

Attached Db Successful In QA But Not Showing In EM

Nov 13, 2001

I used Query Analyser to De-tach a SQL 7 database and that worked fine. The database became 'invisible' in Enterprise Manager and the entry was removed from the sysdatabases in Master. The mdf and ldf file remain in the file system. However, when I ran the sp to Attach the database QA said successful but it does not show in Enterprise Manager or in sysdatabases in Master. I'm going to run through the procedure again and if problems I'll check the logs but has anyone else had difficulty with this. Also with attaching the db to a SQL2000 install I believe the logins on the SQL7 install are not brought over. In my case, the client is using trusted logins with their database application so their is probably not a lot to manually recreate on the SQL 2000 install but doees anyone have nay sample code/script that can give me an idea of what is required in the area of getting logins out of the Master of SQL7 and into SQL2000.

Great forum...

Have a great day,

Re-attached DB Lost Users

If you re-attach a db to a different server, presumably you are shutting out your users (by them not having logins to the new server). If you are moving to a different domain I can only think that having the sa pwd and switching to "Mixed Authentication" would be the only way to get back in to start adding new logins/users, is that correct?

Is there a stored procedure to list attached databases?
You can do this:

Which shows you the config files for the current DB.
What if you want to do a multiple sp_detach_db? If you could get a list of the attached DB's you could recursilvely or conditioinaly detach.
