SQL Server Not Accessible

Mar 8, 2004

I changed the Administrator Password on our Server. I also changed the sa password for the SQL Server to match. Ever since then, if one of my web pages attempts to retrieve data, the user get the error:

SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

This is strange because my pages do not use the sa account in order to retrieve data. I have a copy of MS Access installed locally on the server. Using it I can access the SQL Server data with linked tables. So the SQL Server is obviously servicing internal requests.

I tried changing the passwords back again, but the problem still persists.

Anybody any ideas?

Database Is Not Accessible

Dec 20, 2007

Hi,
i use sql server express 2005. There are several databases which all works fine.
My problem is: when i try to expand one database in Management Studio express, i get for that database (not for others):
"the database 'mydb' is not accessible (microsoft.sqlserver.objectexplorer)" and that's it. I can't see tables nor any objects of that db, while the application still can insert records into tables of that db.
When i run this query: select * from master..sysdatabases
i see all the databases (also 'mydb') with the same mode, status ...
Thanks

Service EndPoints Not Accessible

I am trying to expose a stored procedure on SQL Server 2005 as a web service. So I just have an end point created with the procedure as my web method. Now when I try to reference this web service in my C# windows application, I am only able to see the procedure definition by requesting for the WSDL http://servername/path?wsdl. But when I try to reference it, I get the error 501/505 - Not Implemented or not supported. Any ideas what the issue here could be? Would really appreciate the help here as I am kinda stuck! - Thanks, Manmeet

RS Not Accessible From A Remote Client

Apr 4, 2008

Hi all,
We installed RS on a non default website on our IIS server. When targeting the Reports page from the server itself (http://site:8015/Reports) we can see the welcome page. However if we try to access that same page from another machine we get a generic IE message: IE cannot open the specified page check your internet connection etc. Because the error is so generic I have no idea as to what can be the cause: IIS or RS config ? I suspect IIS because no RS error is raised but then I don't see what I could've missed on that level...
Any ideas of what could be the cause of this ?
thanks a lot

Notes:
- the DB and the RS instance are on the same server
- other sites hosted on the same server are accessible from the client machine
- Anonymous access is enabled on the site level, and on the Reports / ReportServer level. I tried unsetting it but it didn't change anything for the remote client.
- I tried changing the account RS is running under: it used to be LocalSystem, I now set it to NT AuthorityNetworkService but no difference.

Environment: SQL Express Advanced & Windows Server 2003

Named Sql Instance Not Accessible Remotly

Apr 10, 2008

Hi All,

We have two Baan erp servers 1) SQL2005 on windows 2003 server 2) SQL2000 on windows 200 server.

SQL 2005 server has two database instances, one being the default and the other one as a named instance.

We have been trying to access the data in these two database instances from the second server for our baan erp application on it. Now, we are able to see the data for default instance, but if we try to fetch the data from named instance we end up getting dberror 17.

We tried to register the named instance on the second server using "new sql server registration wizard" in sql 2000 enterprise manager, but there also the list only shows the default instance from sql 2005 server. I tried to type in the named instance and register (both windows and sql server authentication), but end up getting error "Database instance doesn't exist or access denied".

So, for some reason, the named instance from sql 2005 server is not getting published on the network. Please suggest some ways to get around this issue.

thanks,

Jatin

Mirror Database Is Not Accessible When Mirroring Is Stopped.

Apr 23, 2006

Hi,

I've a very basic doubt about database mirroring. I did setup a database mirroring session with the help of SQL Server Management Studio between the server A (db1) and B(db1). When is stop database mirroring by using the command button "Stop Mirroring" available in the mirroring page of SQL Server Management Studio , the mirror database{ B(db1) } goes to state "Restoring...". After stopping the mirroring i'm not able to access the mirror database.

Can you please tell me how to bring mirror database B(db1) to operation mode so that we can start working with that database?

Cascade Delete Contraints - Accessible Through TSQL?

Sep 25, 2006

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is an easy way to loop through all contraints in a database and programmatically set the cascade delete to ON. I have a database with hundreds of contraints, so individually setting cascade delete on them is not optimal.

Thanks for any info in advance!

I think that the constraints are simply held in one of the system datatables, is there anyway to simply update that table?

Creating Object In OnInit() - Not Accessible In This Context Because It Is 'Private'

Oct 15, 2006

I am trying to create an assembly object when a report is initialized and I am getting the error:

[rsCompilerErrorInExpression] The BackgroundColor expression for the textbox 'textbox2' contains an error: [BC30390] 'ReportExprHostImpl.CustomCodeProxy.X' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Private'

In the Code tab, I have:
Dim X As namespace.classname
Protected Overrides Sub OnInit()
X = new namespace.classname()
End Sub

In my color field, I have "=code.X.color"
If I replace the color field with "=namespace.classname.color" and have color be a shared property, then it works. However, I ultimately need the color to be based on individual user settings, so I cannot use the shared property approach.

Any ideas on how to get around this "because it is private" error?

FYI, I am trying to replicate the concept of themes using report formatting information pulled from a database.

Recovery :: Instance Still Accessible If Transaction Log Reached Maximum Size?

Oct 12, 2015

One of our production databases was setup mirroring, log shipping and replication on it, the log file was setup unrestricted growth. This morning one index rebuilding process generated lots of logs, and the log file disk ran out of space, the database was in recovery mode. so we had to disable log shipping, pause mirroring and replication, expand log file disk, restarted SQL instance to fix the issue. Now we want to setup the log file to maximum size 80G, the whole log file disk is 120G.

So if the log file reached 80G next time, we can change the max size to 90G or 100G and it's easier to fix the space issue. My question is, if the database  log file reached max size,

1. is the database still available?
2. Will the active session causing the issue be rollback to release space back?

Are The Databases Created Within VWD Express Accessible By Aspnet_regsql.exe Or Management Studio Express?

Nov 13, 2006

Hi,When I attempt to add the membership functionality to a database created within VWD Express, by using the aspnet_regsql.exe application (connecting to ./SQLEXPRESS using Windows authentication), the database I've created within VWD Express doesn't appear within the list of accessible databases. I have the same problem when attempting to access the same database within Management Studio Express.Does this mean that databases created from within VWD Express don't use the same storage mechanism or paradigm as those already available within Management Studio Express? Or perhaps I need to somehow register the database using Management Studio Express? As a side note, I'm not sure if the "File/Open File" menu option within Management Studio Express holds the answer to my problems, but rather bizarrely, it crashes Management Studio Express when I select it.Apologies for the rambling - in essence my question is "How can I make databases created within VWD Express appear within aspnet_regsql.exe and/or Management Studio Express?"Many thanks,Jon

Memory Configurations For SQL Server 2005 EE X64 With SQL Server 2000 EE X32 On Windows Server EE X64 Server

Apr 20, 2007

My server is a dual AMD x64 2.19 GHz with 8 GB RAM running under Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with service pack 1 installed. We have SQL 2000 32-bit Enterprise installed in the default instance. AWE is enabled using Dynamically configured SQL Server memory with 6215 MB minimum memory and 6656 maximum memory settings.

I have now installed, side-by-side, SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in a separate named instance. Everything is running fine but I believe SQL Server2005 could run faster and need to ensure I am giving it plenty of resources. I realize AWE is not needed with SQL Server 2005 and I have seen suggestions to grant the SQL Server account the 'lock pages in memory' rights. This box only runs the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 server databases and I would like to ensure, if possible, that each is splitting the available memory equally, at least until we can retire SQL Server 2000 next year. Any suggestions?

SQL Server 2000 Databases To SQL Server 2005? Enterprise Manager And Management Stuio At The Same Server?

When I proposed start to use SQL Server 2005 for new VS 2005 web sites, one of my co-workers responded that
we will update the old SQL Server 2000 databases to SQL Server 2005 when we are ready to use 2005 SQL Server.

Questions:
1. Any expected problems to upgrade old 2000 databases to new 2005 SQL Server?
2. I have installed both 2005/Management Studio Express and 2000/Enterprise Manager in my PC. Any expected
problems when running both 2000 and 2005 SQL Server at the same database server?
3. What is the best configuration for running SQL Server 2005 when we have old 2000 databases? Upgade or not upgrade?
