How To Downgrade Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition From X64 To X32 Edition
Aug 4, 2007I recently bought a Dell server with Windows 2003 enterprise edition. I wanted the X32 version and metnioned of the same to the sales people, but somehow they put the x64 edition on the server. The database I am planning to use does not work on X64 edition as of now. How do I downgrade the OS to X32 version? Do I need to send the system back to Dell? Machine not opened yet. Or is there a way I can get software CD and downgrade to X32 version?

and displays Setting File Security. I let the install run for over 45 mins and it still hangs... the log file is useless..

We are concerned that whether windows 2003 SP2 is compatible with SQL server 2000 (SP3)?
I was looking at the application compatibility chart for Windows 2003 SP2.Among them Microsoft SQL Server Standard (2000) was listed but with no Service pack details. And also does Standard means standard edition there?
My Question - Is windows 2003 server SP2 compatible with SQL Server 2000 (SP3) Standard Edition? And what if I plan to apply SP4 to Sql Server ?

We weren't planning on using the SQL 2005 worlgroup edition up till now, but now we might. According to the specs of SQL server 2005 workgroup edition however, it has a max RAM of 3GB!
Is this going to be a problem and should we keep using our previous DB, or can we migrate toward SQL server with the 4 GB of RAM?

Dec 13, 2006I have an SBS 2003 server that is running SQL 2000 standard edition which was recently upgraded to Small Business Server 2003 R2.
I have installed SQL 2005 workgroup edition on the SBS 2003 R2 server which acts both as an AD server and Exchange server. I installed SQL 2005 for the purpose of using SQL 2005 for my sharepoint services on the Small Business Server R2.
Now I have SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 workgroup edition installed, but I'm unsure whether I can uninstall the SQL 2000 and how to know whether the sharepoint instance is running in SQL 2005 or SQL 2000?
Additionally, I have some MSDE's running for WSUS and Server Reporting which are installed by the Small Business Server installation.
Which tools should I use to become familiar with identifying the databases and which version of the database engine is used for which database regardless of whether it is a SQL instance or a MSDE instance.
How can I identify which SQL versions are not in use and whether I can uninstall if not needed.

Slow SQL 2005 X64 Standard Edition Performance On Windows Server 2003 X64
Apr 5, 2008I am having major performance issues with Microsoft SQL 2005 x64 Standard Editions performance on Windows Server 2003 x64. The PC has two quad core cpu's with 8gb of ram and running a 500gb mirrored SCSI (Raid 1) drive system. The database running on the server is about 11gb. I've run a defrag several times which helps a little but I was hoping I could do something else to increase the performance.
I have also found that the bottle neck in the SSIS package is the backup and restore process of an 11gb database which takes about 1 hour (backup takes 1 hour and restore takes 1 hour) when it should take about 11 minutes. Is there anything I can do to make these processes run faster or to find out why they are taking so long? Any ideas would be a great help.

Mar 3, 2006We are new to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. We are going to develope a solution for one of our client and we have to decide on which database to use for the solution. Client wanted to have a low cost solution. Thus we were not in a position to push them for SQL Sever 2000.
In the process, we also thought of having MySQL as one of the option. Another option we have is to use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
We wanted to know if SQL Server 2005 Express Edition can be used with Visual Studion 2003 (Ver 1.1) or it can only be used with Visual Studio 2005 (Ver 2.0)?

It say that can not instal client and say to use sqlncli_x64.msi, but I can not find this packege to install this client and I receive one alert with ASP.NET register 64.
I Check all request systems requirements many times and looks ok.
How can I solve this to install properly the SQL 2005 Express? When the setup finish say that was not possiblem to install SQL Server 2005 Express.

I've installed Windows 2003 SP2 in a stand-alone cluster (will be adding a second node later). I'm now installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition 64-bit extended and would like to have the "Create a SQL Server Failover Cluster" box to not be grayed out. Even when I check the "SQL Server Database Services" box, it still has the cluster box grayed out.
Any idea's?

May 23, 2007I've successfully installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on an Enterprise edition of Windows Server 2003 x64. I'm now (and also tried & failed during the install of the database engine) attempting to install the "Management Tools" component on the same server. However, in all my attempts to do so, I receive the following error:

---
The message box does not list the features that are not valid but since the only item I've selected to install is the "Management Tools" option under "Client Components" it obviously points to something with that.
Am I missing something or are the Management Tools not supported in my config - most notably SQL Server 2005 Standard edition running on Windows Server 2003 x64?

i am having a truble in accesing the server 2005 express edition from my client systems in server 2003 domain network. i get server not accessible. whereas my domain is working perfectly. i really tried alot and i have enable tcpip and named pipes and i am still getting errors while accessing. i have also created user reights for the domain users to access sql server. still i couldn't able to access it.
please guide me to over come this issue. I'm dying.My project is similar to SAP concept project and i am doing it in a production industry.so each department as to access the data from the server to update their daily production and activity.

TSQL + VBA Excel 2003 - Importing Data From MS Excel 2003 To SQL SERVER 2000 Using Multi - Batch Processing

I need to import an SQL string from MS Excel 2003 to SQL SERVER 2000.
The string I need to import is composed by 5 different several blocks and looks like:

Upgrading SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition To SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition

I would like to find out if there is any way to upgrade SQL Server 2000 (Ent) to 2005 (STD)
The Instance has many logins and jobs etc and I dont want to loose those
A document or some advice on how to go about it would help

Installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Trial Edition And Standard Edition On Same Machine

Hi
-I have istalled sql server 2005 standard edition , I want to install sql server 2005 enterprise edition on the same machine.
Is it possible? I have Microsoft windows server 2003 SP2 and 1GB RAM.
I want to use partition function with the enterprise edition, will the trial version of sql server work for me?
-If I have already created a database and tables using the standard edition, will I be able to access and use the database using the installed trial version or will I have to start a fresh creating a new database?
- Is it possible to access the same database with any of the installed versions?
BTW, I am prety new to sql server and databases , I am trying to learn by myself

Apr 10, 2008I am attempting to upgrade a 2005 Standard Edtion to Enterprise Edition. This is a default instance. All components are upgraded successfully except the Database Engine. I receive the following error:
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.
After rebooting the SQL instance appears to be upgraded to Enterprise, but it cannot be upgraded to SP2.
