I have been migrating my ASP.net applications and SQL databases to a new system. It is through a different company. The system has more security then I am familiar with. The system is administrated through a software called PLESK, which is starting to piss me off. The SQL Server has two Server Groups the local and XXX168. My database is on the local server.
I am using the following statement to access the SQL Server:
Public Conn As New SqlConnection("Data Source=localhost;Password=XXXXX;User ID=JoeSilla;Initial Catalog=tblusers")
I am getting the following error:
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
Source Error:

Ok guys, I am trying to install Sql server 2005 on Vista but I am still stuck with this warning message in the System Configuration Check during Sql server 2K5 installation :
SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility (Warning) Messages * SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility
* Some components of this edition of SQL Server are not supported on this operating system. For details, see 'Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005' in Microsoft SQL Server Books Online.
Now, I know I need to install SP2 but how the hell I am going to install SP2 if Sql server 2005 doesn't install any of the components including Sql server Database services, Analysus services, Reporting integration services( only the workstation component is available for installation)?
Any work around for this issue?
P.S.: I didn't install VS.NET 2005 yet, can this solve the problem?
I have created a windows library control that accesses a local sql database
I tried the following strings for connecting
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Trusted_Connection = true"
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Integrated Security=SSPI"
I am not running the webpage in a virtual directory but in
C:Inetpubwwwrootusercontrol
and I have a simple index.html that tries to read from an sql db but throws
the error

I looked into the .net config utility but it says unrestricted and I tried adding it to the trusted internet zones in ie options security
I think that a windows form connecting to a sql database running in a webpage should be simple
Reporting services is configured to use a custom security extension in the following Environment.

Found a similar problem in a different thread, but couldn't find any solution. I was wondering if there is an open case for this issue?
Hi,I have a few things on my databases which seem to be neither true systemobjects or user objects - notably a table called 'dtproperties' (createdby Enterprise manager as I understand, relating to relationship graphingor something) and some stored procs begining with "dt_" (some kind ofsource control stuff, possible visual studio related). These show up whenI use"exec sp_help 'databaseName'"but not in Ent. Mgr. or in Query Analyzer's object browser, and also notin a third party tool I use called AdeptSQL. I am wondering how thosetools know to differentiate between these types of quasi-system objects, and my real user data. (This is for the purpose of a customized schemagenerator I am writing). I'd prefer to determine this info with systemstored procs (ie sp_help, sp_helptex, sp_...etc) but will dip into thesystem tables if needed. Thanks,Dave
My web project (ASP.NET 2.0 / C#) runs against sql server 2000 and uses the System.Data.SqlClient.using System.Data.SqlClient; I use System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection and System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand to make the connections to the database and do selects and updates. Is it correct to continue to use these against SQL Server 2005? I ask because I made a connection string (outside of .Net) for SqlServer 2005 using the SQL native provider and it had the following - Provider=SQLNCLI.1 and any connection strings I had made (also outside of ASP.NET) fro SQL Server all used Provider=SQLOLEDB.1. This is why I wondered if there is a different SqlClient in .Net 2.0 for SQL Server 2005? Cheers Al

I have 512M RAM, run at about 1.8Ghz and have plenty of disk space, but am concerned that, if I install SQL Server, it will run as a service all the time and bog down my system. Are there any thoughts on that? I want to use it for learning.
Are any of the other common free versions of databases better than SQL Server as far as consuming resources than SQL Server, for example the free versions of Oracle, DB2, Postgres, MySQL, or any others?

Maybe a dumb question, the standard alerts like Severity 24 and 25 that come when you install SQL Server, will these alerts be called by SQL Server itself if there is a problem. I was going to set up notifications for these but wasn't sure if it was worth the trouble.
I am using MS SQL Server management studio.I treid to see some system tables which are sysobjects, syscolumns, systypes, etc.., but i don't see the list under the system tablesfolder. There is one table showing, sysdiagrams; however, I was ableto query sql stmts though.where are they located? or Do I need to contact a dba to release thosetables? thanks.
I'm using an Access MDB as a front end to a SQL 7 database. When I place thesystem time in a field in Access, it used the user's clock. I'd like to usethe SQL Server system time, so that the times will be synchronized. Isuppose I can just do a pass-through query with "select getdate()." But Iwas wondering if there was some built-in method, either in Access or SQLServer. I'm concerned about the overhead of running a pass-through queryevery time I need the current time.Thanks.
I want to use System Monitor to moniter the performance of SQL Server. My SQL DBA book tells me how to add counters to system monitor. But the book shows a Performance Object called SQLServer:Databases. This isn't appearing in the list of Performance Objects on my computer. How do I get the SQLServer objects to show in the Add Counters dialog?
The application (SQL2000 SP4) is running and appears to be functioning OK. The issue is that the SB Server doesn't recognize it, so when I try to add services to SBS, I fails the check. When I try to publish it to the AD, I get error 22039. MSCRM 3.0 is also installed on the same box and is working fine.
I am soon to be setting up a new server that is to have SQL Server 2005 on it.
The server has 2 x Quad Core Xeon CPUs, 16Gb of RAM and 2x73Gb HDDs in RAID1 configuration - the whole running under Windows Server 2003 x64. (The data will be on an external RAID disk array, so the 73Gb is just for the O/S and utils.)
I was reading that Windows will, by default, create a page file of (RAM size) + 1Mb, though my old-school education says use a page file of 1.5 times the RAM size. Then again, 16Gb is a whole pile of RAM and do I really want a page file of 24Gb when I only have 73Gb of HD space..? Is it worth partitioning the HDD into two or just leave it whole?
I'm looking for guidance from knowledgeable types (that's you chaps) who could offer advice on how best to implement SQL Server on a system of this spec.
I've also thought about assigning different processor affinitie to Analysis Services and the Database Engine - does anyone have any strong thoughts either way on the benefits of this?
Hi, I have developed a custom server control for .NET Framework 2.0. The server control has a property named BinaryData of type byte[]. I marked this property to be data bindable. Now, I have varbinary(Max) type of field in my SQL Database and I have used SQLDataSource and bound this varbinary(Max) field with the property BinaryData (byte[]) of my control. It is working fine as long as the data value is not NULL. Now, In my control, I have handled the NULL value so that no Exception is thrown. Still, when I bind this property using the SQLDataSource, I get Error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'." I am not sure if I can do anything to stop this erro within my control. If it is not possible from the control, then what is the workaround that I can do in my ASPX page in order to stop this error ? Thanks a lot in advance.
Hi, I got this field (dateSubmitted) having a data type of DateTime but I receive this error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DateTime' to type 'System.String'." All value for dateSubmitted field are 12/27/2007 12:00:00 AM. cheers, imperialx
