I have this select statement:
SELECT * FROM [enews] WHERE ([name_nws] LIKE '%" + strSearch + "%' OR
[title_nws] LIKE '%" + strSearch + "%'OR [sub_nws] LIKE '%" + strSearch
+ "%' OR [sum_nws] LIKE '%" + strSearch + "%' OR [content_nws] LIKE '%"
+ strSearch + "%')
This statement works fine but when I turned it into a store procedure,
it returns nothing. I created the store procedure as follows:
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
-- =============================================
-- Author: <Author,,Name>
-- Create date: <Create Date,,>
-- Description: <Description,,>
-- =============================================
CREATE PROCEDURE sqlSearch
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@strSearch varchar(250)
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
-- Insert statements for procedure here
WHERE ([name_nws] LIKE '%" + @strSearch + "%' OR
[title_nws] LIKE '%" + @strSearch + "%'OR [sub_nws] LIKE '%" +
@strSearch + "%' OR [sum_nws] LIKE '%" + @strSearch + "%' OR
[content_nws] LIKE '%" + @strSearch + "%')
END
GO
Help is appreciated.

Hi,
I dare to state that I found a very disappointing bug when using the LIKE operator on NTEXT columns. I actually need to check for equality, but since that doesn't work, I was using LIKE and I noticed I was getting lots of duplicates in my table.
I am using SQL Server 2005 and the issue is very easy to reproduce.
In a table T(string NTEXT) we have 1 row containing 5000 times the character a, like aaaaaaaaa....a - 5000 times. The following query does not return any matches:
SELECT * FROM T WHERE string LIKE 'aaa....a' -- 5000 times
SELECT * FROM T WHERE string LIKE 'aaa...a%' -- 5000 times
doesn't return any values either.
Now comes the fun part: if the literal used with LIKE in the above query is 'aaa...a%' where a occurs 3999 times the query returns the row. If a occurs 4000 times, the query returns no results. It looks like a magic number to me ;-) Does the literal get truncated to a NVARCHAR (whose maximum length is 4000)?
Is there any fix for this problem? I'm thinking of writing a stored procedure to work around the issue...
Another thing that I observed is that there seem to be problems with the comparison when the strings contain special characters (tabs, new lines, etc).
Any ideas would be appreciated, since I really need the comparison in order to avoid having duplicates in my table. I can't keep all the strings in memory and do the check in the application...
Thanks in advance,
Florin

Is this a known issue? When I try to filter my report using Like operator on one of the Report parameters/dataset field it returns nothing. If I use = it works? Any ideas how to use the "Like" operator in reporting?
Thanks,

I have a disconnected utility dimension with the following data and a waterfall->subwaterfall hierarchy. I have ignore if same as parent set on sub water fall. The unary operator is assigned to the relevant level
WaterFall WaterFallUnary SubWaterFall SubWaterFallUnary
Opening ~ Opening ~
Price ~ Price ~
Total Composition ~ Composition L1 +
Total Composition ~ Composition L2 +
Total Composition ~ Composition L3 +
Total Composition ~ Composition L4 +
Total Composition ~ Composition L5 +
Closing ~ Closing ~
I'm using MDX to set values to the members
SCOPE(Measures.Waterfall,[Dim Waterfall].[Water Fall].&[Price]);
THIS=Measures.LowestPrice;
END SCOPE;
SCOPE(Measures.Waterfall,[Dim Waterfall].[Sub Water Fall].&[Composition L1]);
THIS=Measures.[Composition L1];
END SCOPE;
[Code] ....
But when i run a simple select query
SELECT
{[Measures].[Waterfall]} ON COLUMNS,
[Dim Waterfall].[Water Fall].[Water Fall] ON ROWS
FROM [GPA]
I only get a value for price. Total Composition is NULL. If I change my query to look at the subwaterfall level then I see values for composition L1->L5, so I know there are values there I was expecting the unary operator to aggregate my composition measures into Total Composition.
I should point out that every measure that's being assigned to my utility dim is calculated with in excess of a dozen or so steps and intermediate calcs, is this causing some kind of solve order issue?
I know that as a workaround i could probably do something like
SCOPE(Measures.Waterfall,[Dim Waterfall].[Water Fall].&[Total Composition]);
THIS=SUM([Dim Waterfall].[Hierarchy].[Water Fall].&[Total Composition].Children,Measures.Waterfall);
END SCOPE;
But that defeats the purpose of the unary operators
This is sql server 2014 multidimensional

I have a stored procedure that looks like this:
DECLARE @SQLQuery AS NVARCHAR(500)
SET @SQLQuery = 'SELECT D.ID, D.First_Name, D.Last_Name, L.UserID FROM TBL_NH_Details AS D JOIN TBL_NH_Login AS L ON D.NH_Login_ID = L.ID
WHERE D.Location_Code IN (' + @Locations + ')'
EXECUTE sp_executesql @SQLQuery
When I send in @Locations from .Net and my parameter Value looks like this:
"'010,009,004'"
and the SQLValue looks like this:
{'010,009,004'}
I get no records returned.
However, if I execute the stored proc through SQL Server Management Studio using '010,009,004' as @Locations value it returns everything I expect it to.
Anyone have any idea what is going wrong?
*edit*
@Locations is a varchar(500) parameter

I know I can call store procedure from store procedure but i want to take the value that the store procedure returned and to use it:
I want to create a table and to insert the result of the store procedure to it.
This is the code: Pay attention to the underlined sentence!
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[test]
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
DROP TABLE tbl1

END

Problem:
i have configure a SSIS package in BIDS to use an Env. Var. to store the location of the .dtsconfig file for the connection to my SSIS configuration table in SQL. I than use another Env. Var. to retrieve the source conn. str. from my SQL SSIS configuration table. Once my package loads, i select a simple sql task to execute, but it comes back and says that it cannot make the connection. How does the SQLServer connection string know what password to use? This is where i'm confused. I believe it loads the connection string for my source database but it doesn't get the password. I just started working in SSIS and i'm trying to get my head around all of the dynamic options of SSIS. I appreciate your time and help.
Problem Details:
package A has 1 sql execute task
Env.Var. 1 stores the location of the .dtsconfig file that stores the connection data to ssis sqlserver configuration table (used to store additional package properties in sql server)
Env. Var. 2 stores the connection string of my source database.
package protection level set at "EncryptSensitiveWithPassword"
the sql task is assigned to the source connection string,right click and execute task.
here is the error:
Failed to acquire connection "source database" Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permission on this connection.
I'm executing this from within BIDS just to check that my setup is going to work.
Here are some items i've tried or troubleshoot:
1. If I roll back the 2 package Configs or disable using package configs and replace my original source connection manager and create a new connection manager than i can get the sql task to successfully execute again. It won't usually work by just disable the package configs. i had to delete the existing source connection manager.
2. create a new package trying the same steps as above.
3. change the package protection level to "encryptSensitiveWithPassword" expecting this to retain the source connection password. I tried a variety of package protection levels.
Thoughts???? help.....please....

I'm sure this has been asked plenty of times before, so I'm after a link to a good answer.
I have tens of thousands of milk crates, holding dozens of different types of milk in hundreds of locations. I am used to working with objects but not databases. For this situation however I want the security of SQLServer transactions to track, for example, when a robot moves a crate from one location to another.
I am thinking of using SQLServer as a store. On startup I want to get my ecosystem of objects out of the store. While I am running, I'll just use objects. When I change an object property I want it to securely persist. I don't want to snapshot the whole menagerie of object states, just update the values that changed. Which will sometimes include the addition or deletion of objects. How do I do this? Is there an example somewhere that does this (or approximately this)?
I use VB and have Visual Studio 2005. (Which, by the way, is stunning. I thought all that "you will use less time and code more and better" talk was just hype. But its for real. Amazing product.)

Hello,
I am wondering how it is going to work using SQL Server configuration type to store connection string in the SQL Server table. How does SSIS know what database to connect to if its connection string is store in the database? Thanks

ORDER BY LabTests.Result DESC
GO
(2) /////--spTopSixAnalytesEXEC.sql--//////////////
USE ssmsExpressDB
GO
EXEC spTopSixAnalytes

I executed them and got the following results in SSMSE:
TopSixAnalytes Unit AnalyteName
1 222.10 ug/Kg Acetone
2 220.30 ug/Kg Acetone
3 211.90 ug/Kg Acetone
4 140.30 ug/L Acetone
5 120.70 ug/L Acetone
6 90.70 ug/L Acetone
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Now, I try to use this Stored Procedure in my ADO.NET-VB 2005 Express programming:
//////////////////--spTopSixAnalytes.vb--///////////
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim sqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source = .SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security = SSPI; Initial Catalog = ssmsExpressDB;")
Dim sqlDataAdapter As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdaptor("[spTopSixAnalytes]", sqlConnection)
sqlDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Command.Type = CommandType.StoredProcedure
'Pass the name of the DataSet through the overloaded contructor
'of the DataSet class.
Dim dataSet As DataSet ("ssmsExpressDB")
sqlConnection.Open()
sqlDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet)
sqlConnection.Close()
End Sub
End Class
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
I executed the above code and I got the following 4 errors:
Error #1: Type 'SqlConnection' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #2: Type 'SqlDataAdapter' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #3: Array bounds cannot appear in type specifiers (in Form1.vb)
Error #4: 'DataSet' is not a type and cannot be used as an expression (in Form1)
Please help and advise.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang
More Information for you to know:
I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.
I try to learn "Working with SELECT Statement in a Stored Procedure" for printing the 6 rows that are selected - they are not parameterized.

But when I called it from asp.net app, it runs slow and it waits and waits to get data and insert into temp tables and return. Though I have used with (nolock), it still not imprvoed. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am very new to ASP.NET and SQL Server. I am a college student and just working on some project to self teaching myself them both. I am having a issue. I was wondering if anyone could help me.
Ok, I am creating a web app that will help a company to help with inventory. The employee's have cretin equipment assign to them (more then one equipment can be assigned). I have a search by equipment and employee, to search by equipment the entire database even then equipment that isn't assigned with the employee's it shows only that employees and if they have any equipment. They can select a recorded to edit or see the details of the record. The problem i am having is that the Info page will not load right. I am redirected the Serial Number and EmployeeID to the info page. I got everything working except one thing. If a person has more then one equipment when i click on the select it redirect and only shows the first record not the one I selected. and when i change it, a employee that doesn't have equipment will not show up totally.
SELECT E.FirstName AS UserFirstName, E.LastName AS UserLastName, eqtype.Description AS UserEquipType, empeq.UserEquipID, E.EmployeeID, E.cwopa_id, eq.IPAddress, eq.Location, eq.DataLine3, eq.DataLine2, eq.Voice, eq.DataLine1, eq.FloorBox, eq.Comments, eq.SerialNo, eq.Model, eq.Brand, eq.TagNo, eq.PurchaseLease, eq.WarrantyExpDate, eq.PhoneType, eq.PhoneNum, eq.CellNumber, eq.DataNumber, eq.SIDNumber, eq.Carrier
FROM dbo.EMPLOYEES AS E LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EMPLOYEES_EQUIP AS empeq ON empeq.EmployeeID = E.EmployeeID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EQUIPMENT AS eq ON eq.EquipID = empeq.EquipID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EQUIP_TYPE AS eqtype ON eqtype.EquipTypeID = eq.EquipTypeID WHERE E.EmployeeID = @EmployeeID and eq.SerialNo=@SerialNo
EmployeeID and SerialNo are primary keys.
I was thinking maybe create a store procedures, but I have no idea how to do it. I created this and no syntax error came up but it doesn't work
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.inventoryinfo AS
DECLARE @EmployeeID int DECLARE @SerialNo varchar(50)
IF( @SerialNo is NULL)
SELECT E.FirstName AS UserFirstName, E.LastName AS UserLastName, eqtype.Description AS UserEquipType, empeq.UserEquipID, E.EmployeeID, E.cwopa_id, eq.IPAddress, eq.Location, eq.DataLine3, eq.DataLine2, eq.Voice, eq.DataLine1, eq.FloorBox, eq.Comments, eq.SerialNo, eq.Model, eq.Brand, eq.TagNo, eq.PurchaseLease, eq.WarrantyExpDate, eq.PhoneType, eq.PhoneNum, eq.CellNumber, eq.DataNumber, eq.SIDNumber, eq.Carrier
FROM dbo.EMPLOYEES AS E LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EMPLOYEES_EQUIP AS empeq ON empeq.EmployeeID = E.EmployeeID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EQUIPMENT AS eq ON eq.EquipID = empeq.EquipID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EQUIP_TYPE AS eqtype ON eqtype.EquipTypeID = eq.EquipTypeID WHERE E.EmployeeID = @EmployeeID
ELSE
SELECT E.FirstName AS UserFirstName, E.LastName AS UserLastName, eqtype.Description AS UserEquipType, empeq.UserEquipID, E.EmployeeID, E.cwopa_id, eq.IPAddress, eq.Location, eq.DataLine3, eq.DataLine2, eq.Voice, eq.DataLine1, eq.FloorBox, eq.Comments, eq.SerialNo, eq.Model, eq.Brand, eq.TagNo, eq.PurchaseLease, eq.WarrantyExpDate, eq.PhoneType, eq.PhoneNum, eq.CellNumber, eq.DataNumber, eq.SIDNumber, eq.Carrier
FROM dbo.EMPLOYEES AS E LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EMPLOYEES_EQUIP AS empeq ON empeq.EmployeeID = E.EmployeeID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EQUIPMENT AS eq ON eq.EquipID = empeq.EquipID LEFT OUTER JOIN dbo.EQUIP_TYPE AS eqtype ON eqtype.EquipTypeID = eq.EquipTypeID WHERE E.EmployeeID = @EmployeeID and eq.SerialNo=@SerialNoGO
Also, when a user selects the select button in either Employee search or Equipment search it redirects them to info.aspx. Should I create a different aspx page for both? But I don't believe I should do that. I don't know if I gave you enough information or not. But if you could give examples that would be wonderful! Thanks so much Nickie

I follow the example for store procedure from this link to deal with large amount of data and it work great.
http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/042606-1.shtml
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_PageResults_NAI]
(
@startRowIndex int,
@maximumRows int
)
AS
DECLARE @first_id int, @startRow int
-- A check can be added to make sure @startRowIndex isn't > count(1)
-- from employees before doing any actual work unless it is guaranteed
-- the caller won't do that
-- Get the first employeeID for our page of records
SET ROWCOUNT @startRowIndex
SELECT @first_id = employeeID FROM employees ORDER BY employeeid
-- Now, set the row count to MaximumRows and get
-- all records >= @first_id
SET ROWCOUNT @maximumRows
SELECT e.*, d.name as DepartmentName
FROM employees e
INNER JOIN Departments D ON
e.DepartmentID = d.DepartmentID
WHERE employeeid >= @first_id
ORDER BY e.EmployeeID
SET ROWCOUNT 0
GO
my problem is how do i do the Sort for this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ddee
