View 4 RepliesI am getting an intermittent problem with executing queries on my workstation. Whenever I execute a couple of store procedures that return a large numbers of rows (200,000 to 500,000 rows) I receive an intermittent error message when running the same sp with the same parameters sometimes the procedure runs fine and returns the result, sometimes I get an error message
Error message is: Index was outside the bounds of the array.
Sometimes
Error message is: Internal connection fatal error.
Sometimes I get a datetime overflow
I also occasionally get these intermittent messages when I execute the native query that the SP wraps.
I have SSMS 2015 SP1 installed on my workstation, the servers are a range of server from 2008 R2 SP2 to 2014 SP1. It feels like a client problem as there are applications connecting to these servers and running the stored procedures without issue...
Anyone know where I can find some command line tools such as RCMD etc.. Thank you.;)
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I run the parse command in SSMS, it merely does a syntax check. When I run through the export data wizard by right clicking on a table, it allows a query as the data source. When I click on the parse button in the window that accepts that query, it resolves object names and notifies me of invalid ones. I'd really like the same thing to happen when I parse in SSMS...

Hi,
I have a problem about the SP2 installation with using command line in vbscript.
In the vbscript, I use the command line as follow.
'Command line parameters to install SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2
Set WSHShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
strAppsp2 = "c:sqlsetupSP2SQLServer2005SP2-x64.exe /Passive /quiet"
WSHShell.Exec(strAppsp2)
set shell = createobject("wscript.shell")
...
But it cannot install the SP2.
Then I tried to test the command line again at the command prompt
c:sqlsetupSP2SQLServer2005SP2-x64.exe /allinstances /passive
After that the SP2 installation box is shown but I need to install in unattend mode.
Would you please suggest me the command line to install the sp2 in unattend mode.

Hi there
I've just finished writing a script to install our SSIS packages using dtUtil.exe
We also have a whole bunch of legacy dts packages that we maintain. At the moment we rely on these being manually installed - I'm looking to automate this effort (I'm holding back a rant about 6hr production deployments due to people not being able to follow simple instructions)
Didn't find too much out there on this.. unless I'm missing something obvious, it wouldn't be the first time.
Anyone else out there have a solution to this?
thanks

I am using the Command Line to install SQL Server Express (SSE) on client machine. Below is long Command Line we are using.
setup /qb ADDLOCAL=SQL_Engine,Connectivity SQLXML SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=#SmartPlus01# INSTANCENAME=SPSERVER DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0
When I try to connect to SSE from a client's machine using the 'sa' account, I get a connection failure message. Interesting enough, when I fire up Management Studio, it shows (under the server properities) that the server is still using "Window Authentication". I want to force Mix-mode authentication. According to SQL-BOL I need the SECURITYMODE=SQL and the SAPWD =<StrongPassword> params to use MixMode. Am I missing something in the command line to use MixMode authentication?
Another pair of eyes looking at this would be great.
P.S. Although Windows Authentication is the prefered method, sometimes it just doesn't fit for everything we need to do.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am trying to setup my install script to install SQL Express 2005 using the SQL Security Mode
and setting the SA Password by passing in parameters from the command line.
setup.exe SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD="123456"
This runs the install, but still prompts me during the installation to enter an SA Password.
Thanks.

Is there a roadmap for allowing SSMS to connect to a PDW (MS SQL2012 Parallel Data Warehouse) with full functionality? Current support leaves much to be desired without installing third party tools.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have new Dell XPS13 Laptop with Windows 10 Pro, which I plan to use for development. Installed vs2013 and SQL Server 2012. When running SSMS and invoking any of the tools, e.g. create new database, copy database etc. The controls in the dialog boxes are scrambled, i.e. overlaying each other or partially out of the viewport, making SQL Server totally unusable. Uninstalled SQL 2012 and installed SQL2016CTP3 and got the same result.
The display is Intel HD Graphics 5500 using a recommended 3200 x 1800 resolution. It appears that SSMS visuals do not scale correctly. Changing the resolution offers no support and in fact lower resolutions do odd things like leave snail trails and do rapid flashing screen repaints.
I have many tables, and I just want to print the relationships between them. The ones without foreign keys to primary key relations are irrelevant. I made a diagram of all tables in sql server management studio, and it shows the key relations, but its a very large diagram horizontally and vertically. Is there a way to print the whole thing so that it doesn't take endless pages that I don't know how to piece together?

After installing SSMS on some computers - the only way we can get SSMS to run correctly is to run it as the administrator. Is there a way where you don't have to do that? These end users are logging as themselves and have accounts in SQL Server all set up - but SSMS will only launch for them if we right click and select "run as administrator".After doing some digging - it seems that this is a common problem out there.

We have reinstalled the replication feature. We have gone through several MSDN articles that indicate exactly what privileges (both within the DB and in Windows) that service account should have. None have worked Incidentally, when I create a new publication and indicate that the SQL Server Agent be used , the publication runs.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm using ssms 2014, but got the same problem with 2012. I use ssms almost entirely on remote desktop sessions ( Windows 7, Server 2008R2, Server 2012 ). It may be related to having filtered job activity monitor windows open for hours, but about once per day ssms fails, and has to restart. Upon resuming usually only one of several queries is restored.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhat permission is required to run debug feature in SSMS(debug Stored Procedures). This is a development machine and developer requested for this.
EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_enable_sql_debug', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'.
EXECUTE permission was denied on object 'sp_sql_debug', database 'master'.
Is there any option other than giving sysadmin privilege on SQL?
I have an extremely annoying problem when debugging stored procedures in SQL Server 2014 with SSDT or SSMS. When calling a SP thru EXECUTE in Debug mode, 9 out of 10 SPs are traced with a wrong yellow arrow-pointer to the line currently reached.
The offset is between 6 to 15 lines downward. Tracing itself and update of the "Locals"-view works as expected. All SPs contain comments also before the Create Procedure statement. The SP shown when tracing show exactly the same content as the stored SQL in the SSDT project under work incl. Create procedure and all comments.
The picture here show the first line selected after the debugger has traced into the SP. The first line really executed with "Next" will be SET NOCOUNT ON.
If this does not turns out as my fault and some of you would support that, I would like to post this to SQL Connect.
I have the following setup:
- An MSSQL 2014 Standard server that houses multiple small databases (in excess of a hundred).
- These databases are frequently dropped and restored by an application that uses this SQL Server.
- There is a business need for this setup at this time, so I can't get away from it. Therefore answers like "don't have so many small databases that are frequently dropped and restored" would be somewhat unuseful
This is the problem I have:
- When I connect SSMS 2014 to the server and expand the "Databases" node, it takes forever to display. In comparison, SSMS 2008 connected to SQL 2008R2 server with the same number of databases displays the Databases tree very quickly.
I ran a trace to see what exactly SSMS 2014 is doing. When the "Databases" node is expanded, it runs a query that checks each database for Memory-Optimized Tables (new and wonderful feature of SQL 2014 for sure, but I'm not using it, at least yet). Naturally, when you have to loop through over a hundred DBs, it takes time. Worse yet, if one of these DBs is in process of being restored, the query sits and waits to time out before proceeding to the next DB. Sometimes this causes outright timeouts. Here is the query:
use [MyDatabase]
SELECT
ISNULL((select top 1 1 from sys.filegroups FG where FG.[type] = 'FX'), 0) AS [HasMemoryOptimizedObjects]
To be sure, this is NOT a SQL Server performance issue. This server processes a rather heavy workload and has been doing so for over a month, and the workload completes within expected time limits or better. Even so I've done some basic performance measuring, and the server itself is quite all right.
Moreover, if I connect SSMS 2008 to it, I get an error message (Index out of bounds or somesuch), but SSMS 2008 does connect, and displays the Databases tree much faster than SSMS 2014.
I'd like to turn off the option to check for Memory Optimized Objects altogether, as I'm not using the feature.
Hi,
I'm currently trying to develop an unattended installation of the Client Tools to be distributed to developers workstations.
All is well on 'clean' machines, but the problems arise when an instance of SQL Server Express is already present. The install fails, and the reason isn't clear from the log files.
I know Express installs a couple of the Client Components (like Config Manager), and I believe this is what it blocking me.
Has anyone tried this scenario?
Would I be best to REMOVE the Client_Components first, and then re-install them with SSMS etc.? Or is there a better method?
I have to leave the Express Database instance untouched as I'm not responsible for its installation or maintenance.
Thanks,
Gordon.
Using Query Analyzer, I can right click on an object and select "scriptobject to new window as create" and I get the text of the object'sdefinition (schema). Can I get same result from command line, i.e., fromosql, I can get text output for the definition of the object (something likedefncopy under Sybase)? If so, what is the command or store procedure name? Thanks in advance.
