View 13 RepliesIs it possible to try repair a database without being attached, giving the path to the files?
I'm trying to attach a database that i recover from a disk, and i'm not able to attach, gives me an error, saying i should do a db check.
Hello,
I was wondering about the principles of SQL Server. In all of my books, they show me to attach the DB, even create the DB through Visual Studio 2005. Which creates a .mdf file and a .ldf file.
Ok, but I cannot open those files through SQL Server Management. The only DB I am able to manage through SQL Server Management is the ones created with it.
So my question is: For a Multi-User type Application, is there a problem to attach a network based file through VS2005, the same way as an access file ?
Again my keyword here is Multi-User. Sorry if this myth be a stupid question but I am used to MSAccess. SQL Server is a lot more complexe and I don't want to start in the wrong direction.
Thank you for your response.
Hi allI have a question concerning sql database mdf files. In the old days I would user a ms access database. This file would be stored with the actual web files and would utilise a dsn connection. I have noted when designing with vwd 2005 express it allows you to use 2 methods of creating a mdf database. You can either create it as an attachment mdf or you can create it directly using sql manager. My question is, if you create the mdf database as an attachement file can you store it in the same manner as if you where using a ms access database, meaning can you store it with the web site's files so it uses the file storage allocated size and then create a connection similar to a dsn (but for sql) to the isp's sql engine or does it have to be uploaded to the isp' s sql server. The reason for this question is some of my customers do not want to pay the extra cost to have an sql allocation, however I do not want to go back to using old asp methods to create advanced sites as I prefer using stored procedures. Any help will be appreciated
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi,
I have an interesting situation here. I have a SQL Server 2000 database which is attached to SQL Server 2005. The database (SQL 2000) however only has service pack 3 applied. I need to apply SP4 before I can move forward with SQL 2000->2005 upgrade. The question: can I somehow apply this support package with my current configuration or should I install full SQL 2000 front-end anew (which I don't have at the moment)? Whenever I try to run SQL 2000 SP4 it complains "SQL Server 2000 is not installed on this machine."
The server I try to install the update is Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition x64. SQL Server 2000 database itself is x86 (obviously).
Thanks.
Hi every body.
As you can see in the title I would like to import my tables from the data base which is in the SQL Server, to an mdf file which can be attached to the project. Can some one give an indice please?
I am looking for best blogs/articles on Debugging, performance for SQL server 2000/2005.
Please provide me links
Is there - apart from the notorious RESTORE HEADERONLY - an tool which is able to tell which SQL Server version created a specific BAK file? I'm looking for a tool that can be used w/o an available/running SQL Server installation.
Alternatively, is there any documentation about what is read with RESTORE HEADERONLY so I could write a tool myself?
Where would I find the version "bytes" in a BAK file?
According to MS Knowledge Base Article 269824, "[SQL Server 2000 ClientTools] ... must be installed ... on any computer on which someone may makedesign changes in an Access project to a SQL Server 2000 database".This is the situation I'm facing. Can I download these Client Tools andinstall them for free, or are they only available on the SQL Server 2000Installation CD?Thanks for any help!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with SQL Server 2005. I installed the Personal Starter kit but don't have the Express edition installed so I attached the .mdf file to SQL Server 2005. That's ok and I also changed the connection string to integrated security.<add name="Personal" connectionString="Data Source=MyTestServer;Initial Catalog=Personal;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>I tried setting the security settings in the Management studio under Security | Logins | BUILTINAdministrators where I select the User mapping and check the checkbox before the Personal.mdf file. But this doesn't seem to do the trick. How can I set the correct security settings?

Hi,
I am currently working on a project which requires reports that need multi-pass queries. I am currently using Crystal Report 8.5 and am not sure how to use multi-pass queries.
Here's some explanation about what I need :
A report has 10 different columns (counters). However, to get the values in all the columns, the filters (WHERE clause) are different for all the columns.
The only way I can think of doing this in Crystal Reports 8.5 is using Sub-reports (that will kill my performance) or then write stored procedures to populate an intermediate table on which the report will be based on.
Is there any reporting tool in the market that will help me pass multiple queries (with different WHERE clauses) in the same report.
I would appreciate your help on the above the earliest.
Thank you.

Hi,
I'm trying to re-install SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine andSQL Server client tools. I have succesfully re-installed the desktop engine, but I am getting the following error message when attempting to re-install theclient tools.
"Setup has detected an existing client tools only installation.
Please use the maintenance mode to add client components"
Unfortunately the Upgrade/Add/Remove option is greyed out as
an install option.
I attempted the registry hive rebuild option and the install appeared
to succeed. However, I cannot access any tools (Enterprise Manager
comes up with the message "The selected file cannot be found").
At this point, the desktop engine appears in Add/Remove programs
Window, but no other SQL Server components.
Any help very much appreciated!

Hi,
A quick Q for all the Sql Server 2000 beta testers out there. Does anyone know of any problems associated with using SS2000 Enterprise Manager with a SS7 backend running SP2? In particular, I'm keen to try out the Tsql debugger features, if they'll work with SS7.
Many thanks in advance,

This is for SQL Server 2005 SP4 Build 5266. We have been having performance issues in production. There are tight deadlines to be met and it is important that they are solved promptly.
Yesterday we replicated the situation in the acceptance testing environment. The jobs take 8 hours to run and we started at 2:00 PM.
Just before the jobs ran I set up an SQL Server Profiler trace to catch processes with a duration of longer then 12 seconds. I set it to save the results to a database table.
Last night I checked the table at 5:00 PM and there were entries in the table. However, I could be mistaken.
At 9:00 PM I checked the table and it was empty.
This morning I arrived at work and checked SQL Server Profiler. The trace was running and within SQL Server Profiler, there are 100s of results. I stopped the trace. However, checking the table, it is empty.
I thought I would be able to save the trace results to a file. When I choseĀ "Save As" from the file menu, all the options are greyed out (trace file, trace template, trace table, etc).
The results are there but there is no way of saving them and no way of exporting them. How could this have happened?
Is there a location, where SQL Server Profiler saves the results in a temporary space. I may be able to open them and retrieve them. How can I save the results? Why are all my options greyed out?
Hi all,I have a problem and need some ideas. What I have done: I created a page to upload an excel file into a SQL Server table along with some customer info (from the login, day, etc.). This excel file contains several rows (some of them may be blank) and columns (also some may be blank). The file is stored in an image object. The file will be checked (they want to do it manually, because contents is a problem). If they say it is OK, I want to run a program to add a record into an existing table with the request no. (from the first table, where the object is stored) and all the information available from the filled rows (first row is header). I have a column, which can be checked, if the row contains data or not.Any ideas?I know how to read from and write the contents of the object to a field in the SQL table. Can I use this? Thanks for any idea / code / link.

I know that the file persmission for the web application have to include aspnet, so i keep resetting the folder permission for aspnet in file manager, but the login failed keeps coming back every day or two
problem is after working with VS05 Pro, SQL Server Management Studio CTP, somehow the aspnet persmission get changed, use alot of sqldatasource wizards and often there is a conflict/hang between the datasource wizard and the need to have the mdf in a dettached state within VS server explorer,
not sure but the procedure to fix this seems to be to reboot, detach and re-attach the mdf in the Sql server Studio tool, re-apply the aspnet file permission on the web app folders (wonder should i be doing this in IIS instead), make sure the mdf within server explorer is detached, the it works
anyway, getting real tired of the resulting delays and design time derailment, clues greatly appreciated, thanks
sometimes i can use View in Browser when in VS05 form view and i wont get the aspnet folder permission error and other times i do.
last thing, is it a bad idea to give aspnet full permission for the entire web applicaiton??
Thanks in advance. What is maximum SQL Server database (*.mdf) file size with SQL Server 2000 as part of Microsoft Small Business Server 2000? (Database files were limited to 10 GB in SBS 4.5 with SQLServer 7.0... has this changed?).
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi. I am using VS 2005 and I want to create a database file (mdf) and have it on my server, but not have it attach to an instance of SQL server. Is this possible? The hosting I am using only allows for 1 SQL DB, and obviously doesn't allow you to attach instances of a DB. I would rather go with an mdf file that access, but not sure if this is possible. If anyone knows if it is and how to pull it off it would be GREAT!!

Hi, paws.
My server crashed recently, I didn't give to much importance because I knew that having access to the partitions I could recover my DB files and attach my database to my new server, and everything was fine until ... I found that my DTS Packages and Jobs where not in my Attached DB.
Now, where can I find these ?
Can you help a tormented man ?
Thanks in advance.

I attached .mdf and .ldf from the app_data folder in an asp.net web site. I set the configuration to SSPI. The trouble is, I get this error
requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'IN-XYZmattaniah'.
If I create a database and connect to it using SSPI I do not get this error. I assume there is something I am missing.

Hello friends !
Wich one is more efficient way to use a sql mdf file in Sqlexpress ?

Hello,
I have attached a Sql Server table in an Access database.
This wasn't a problem, I can open my attached table from Access, use it in queries.
Now I'm trying to open it from an asp page, for example :
SQL="SELECT * FROM myAttachedTable"
Set Rs= server.createobject("ADODB.Recordset")
Rs.Open SQL, myAccessConnectionString , 3, 4
I get :
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][Pilote ODBC Microsoft Access] ODBC -- failed connection to 'My SQL Server'.
again if I enter the same sql query directly in Access it all works.
What am I missing ?
Thanks a lot
