SQL Tools :: Using Two Different Server Instances On Same Machine?
Jul 20, 2015
I am using two different SQL server instances one is SQL server 2012 and SQL server 2008 r.
I am using SQL server 2012 but certainly i need to use the SQL server and unfortunately need to use same alias name as i have used for SQL server 2012 instance.
One more thing is that am using 1433 port for both SQL sever instances, but when am trying to connect to SQL server 2008 r2 using that alias, i am get connected to the SQL server 2012 database.

I am trying to install SQL2K5 on my machine where I already have SQL2K installed.
The best I have managed to achieve is to get SQL2K5 EM looking at my SQL2K databases.
Do I need to uninstall SQL2K before installing SQL2K?
Depending on what combo of SQL I have installed my options on SQL2K install vary.
I am a bit lost at this point.
Anyone know a link to a good white paper type doc that guides me through an install on the same machine.
Thanks In Advance

I had a server with SQL Server 7.0
I installed a named instance of SQL Server 2000 and then i passed all my DB
of the 7.0 instance to the 2000 instance.
Then i removed the 7.0 instance, that was the default instance.
So at the moment there is only the 2000 version, but it isn't the default
instance
Can the 2000 instance become the default instance? (So that clients can
connect to it simply through computer name, and not creating an alias)
thanks

Login failed for user 'TOSHIBA-USERASPNET'
I know that the file persmission for the web application have to include aspnet, so i keep resetting the folder permission for aspnet in file manager, but the login failed keeps coming back every day or two
problem is after working with VS05 Pro, SQL Server Management Studio CTP, somehow the aspnet persmission get changed, use alot of sqldatasource wizards and often there is a conflict/hang between the datasource wizard and the need to have the mdf in a dettached state within VS server explorer,
not sure but the procedure to fix this seems to be to reboot, detach and re-attach the mdf in the Sql server Studio tool, re-apply the aspnet file permission on the web app folders (wonder should i be doing this in IIS instead), make sure the mdf within server explorer is detached, the it works
anyway, getting real tired of the resulting delays and design time derailment, clues greatly appreciated, thanks
sometimes i can use View in Browser when in VS05 form view and i wont get the aspnet folder permission error and other times i do.
last thing, is it a bad idea to give aspnet full permission for the entire web applicaiton??

I am running SQL Server 2005 x64 Enterprise under Windows 2003 x64 Enterprise. My current backup strategy uses T-SQL jobs run by SQL Agent (writes out *.bak files) and then I have an Integration Services job that copies the *.bak files to our NAS device. I have performed a restore without issue. The jobs are all automated every four hours via SQL Agent. Is this a sound strategy or are there additional benefits to using 3rd party tools? If so, what are the advantages and which tool provides them?

Help!
I am using Script Transformation to output a new column as image[DT_IMAGE]
field to store serialized object. In the VB script, the sample code as
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData ( binaryArrayReturnedFromC#dll )
The package always runs fine on my developing machine and will halt on other
machine at AddBlobData after certain number row records were processed. I am
stuck here. Anyone has any suggestion?
What I need is reading data from mutiple tables in one database and writing
into a single table in another datable. In order preserve all the columns
data, I use input column fields to construct a new object and then serialize
it, and store the serialize data into detination db table. (The object and
serialization function is coming from c# dll.)
Dim b As BusinessLicense = New BusinessLicense()
b.ApprovalDate = Row.approvaldate
b.BusinessId = Row.busid
b.BusinessName = Row.busname
b.NaicsCode = Row.naicscode
b.NaicsDescription = Row.naicsdescr
b.OwnerName = Row.ownername
b.Phone = Row.phone
b.Pkey = Row.pkey
b.RenewalDate = Row.renewaldate
b.StartDate = Row.startdate
b.Suite = Row.suite
Row.serializedobject.AddBlobData(Serializer.Serialize(b)) '''----This is blocking line
Row.infoType = BusinessLicense.TYPE
Both machine is xp with sp2. and standard SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06
Thanks!

Is there - apart from the notorious RESTORE HEADERONLY - an tool which is able to tell which SQL Server version created a specific BAK file? I'm looking for a tool that can be used w/o an available/running SQL Server installation.
Alternatively, is there any documentation about what is read with RESTORE HEADERONLY so I could write a tool myself?
Where would I find the version "bytes" in a BAK file?

Hi to everyone,
I'm facing a problem that drives me crazy. I've a web application that has the following problem. When I test the application on my developement machine all runs fine, but when I put into production server there is a problem in connection pooling. Look at the following image, the blue line is the number of connection in the pool and the violet line is the number of connection reclaimed. From the image it is clear that connection are returned on the pool only in block, maybe when the garbage collection pass and reclaim the object. The strange thing is that on my developement machine all is good, and also I'm using Enterprise Library and the connection are managed internally.- Thanks to everyone for any help.

Hullo all
I have two machines,
One is a standalone machine and the other is on a domain network. How can I run a stored procedure/job on the standalone machine from the domain machine ?
running the procedure as a Domain user results in a failed job/stored proc.
also creating an sql login and attempting to run it as that user also fails. How can I solve this problem ?
please e-mail me at wayde@sunnygrp.com if you have any thoughts...

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there was any white papers on the migration part from microsoft?
Apparently the situation is like this
Currently installed MOSS 2007 in a testing pc as application server. This application server will refer another testing database server which running SQL Server 2005.
Now, wanted to move this 2 temporary server into another 2 new servers.
Correct me if I'm wrong, it cannot be done by using image like Norton Ghost due to difference hardware spec.
So, if I install another fresh copy of MOSS2007 & SQL server 2005 in that 2 new servers, how can I migrate the contents, documents, etc from the testing database server?
It would be great if someone can show me the links to kb article. Thanks

with sql server 2000, it is possible to have multiple instances on one server. Now I want to make the second server a subscriber for specific tables before there are some tests/major changes. Has anyone experience with this on the same server. Note : sql server subscriptions between different servers in sql server 7 is not the issue.

I created a named instance of SQL Server 2000 on my notebook. I inadvertantly set the trusted SQL connection to Windows Authentication. This is creating a problem with COM because of username and password. I want to reset it to use SQL Server authentication but I can't find where to do it. Can I do this or do I have to delete this instance and create a new one.

Dear SQL Guru,I just found out this morning that my SQL Server box had been added 1more instance. Below is the example:PPAPP0075FINANCE (Old instance)PPAPP0075ACCOUNTING (Old instance)PPAPP0075Accounting (new instance)This is a case sensitive MS Sql server (third party vendor App). TheACCOUNTING instance is the one we have been using for our currentapplications. I found out the new one(Accounting) when I scan thenetwork by using OSQL -L utility. However, when NT engineers tried toverify the physical files location ofAccounting, and it did not exist. When I tried to register it and itdoes not appear from Enterprise Manager.Please keep in mind NT Engineers have been monkey around on this serverquite a lot in last a few weeks, especially modifying Registry keys.My question is, where did PPAPP0075Acounting come from? We never evertried to install any more instance on this server.Please help,Thanks,Silaphet,

Hi, I've got an application which uses the DBFactory Provider to enumerate a list of available SQL instances on the local network.
I've just reformatted though and put everything back on, and my application will now see the sql server instances on the network, but not the instances on the local computer (only the server name), eg, it will see "BENSQLEXPRESS" on a computer (BEN) on the local network, and give the version info, etc, but it only sees "DAN" instead of "DANPCP" and "DANSQLEXPRESS" on the local computer (DAN).
Regards,
Ben

Hi all,I just asked some people to help me out and phone microsoft with thefollowing information, kindly they refused unless we setup a supportcontract with them first, for pre-sales information. (That really doesnot sound like good business sense to me - anyway here is our problem,if anyone could help thanks)."To tell and ask microsoft:We will be setting up a microsoft sql server 2000 instance running on awindows 2003 server.1) We need to check this can run alongside a microsoft 2003 sql server(either workgroup or standard edition), on the same machine. Are thereany .dll clashes if we do this? If there are can we run SQL Server2000, in a virtual machine running windows 2000 professional. (I have alicenced copy we can use for this).2) If we run one instance of 2000, and one of 2003 of the sql servers,can one use the processor licence model, and one use the CAL licencemodel."Thanks for any help, and any idea why they actually force you to usenews groups for pre-sales information?David

I am playing around in a test environment with SQL Server 2014. I have a question about the default location of the report server databases when you have multiple report server instances installed on one server.
I did a very simple install of SQL Server 2014 with the database and Reporting Services in Native Mode (install only) features selected. Accepting the default locations, I ended up with the following locations as you would expect:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVER
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSRS12.MSSQLSERVER
Running the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, I created the Report Server database. After creating the Report Server database, the related files will be located below in the SQL folder as I would expect.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA
Next I installed another instance, which I called Test, of SQL Server 2014 like I did above. I now have the following folder structure the Test instance as I expect.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL12.TEST
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSRS12.TEST
Running the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, I select the Test instance and create the Report Server Test instance database.
My first thought would be that the Test instance Report Server database would be in the following location:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL12.TESTMSSQLDATA
Instead this database is located with the default instance Report Server database:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA
