What are my limitations with search? Can I search on a phrase? If I search for "bookshelf" will I get everything with 'book' and 'shelf'? Can I search using "and"? Can I sort the results like yahoo does? Can I rank the results? For example, if I search for a product can I sort the results by price?
I've been looking into ways to accomplish a fuzzy search and SSIS makes that possible if I want to do a bulk import or something like it. But what it I just want to look stuff up at any given time not haveing to run the package?
Is it possible to expose the fuzzy lookup outside of SSIS to for example t-sql?
Here's an example: I want to lookup the music artist "Notorious BIG" but in the database it is "Notorious B.I.G." if I use the SSIS fuzzy lookup I basically get what I'm looking for. But how would I call this from a web application? So then I tried Full text search but this doesn't really work out as well.
Will I have to re-write the logic that the fuzzy lookup uses to enable it to work? i.e. using Full Text Indexes and FreeTextTable, ContainsTable, SoundEx and the like to somewhat even come close to what the Fuzzy Lookup has?
I am starting on a project where we will be using SSIS. I am totally new to it and would like to ask for your input on whether SSIS can do what I want it to do.
What we are wanting to do is to take data that is loaded into a queue table, and then possibly transform it a bit and load it into a common db as a batch. After that, subsets of that data should then be replicated to other databases based on some criteria. So what we end up with is one database with all the data and two (for now) databases, each with a subset of that data.
Ideally we would want our backend apps to work with the data in the common database and our frontend apps to work with the data in the two other databases.
So I have a couple of questions.
Can SSIS do two-way replication? So if the frontend changed one of the subset databases, could it replicate the change to the common database? And likewise, if the backend changed the common database, could it replicate the change to one of the subset databases?
What is a good way to execute a package from code? For example, from code we would load some tables, and then we would like to execute the SSIS package after that to go through the tables and transform and send that to other tables in one big batch job.
Is it possible to look at the status of package execution from another computer other than the one running the package? I know one way is just for the package to write to a table what it is doing and that table can then be looked at. I was wondering if there was some more elegant way of doing this.
We are also looking at whether we can do our archiving process from SSIS. All it involves is taking the data in the common database and transforming it to xml and outputting it as a file. Is there a way to write out to an xml file? I saw that you can read in xml in SSIS, but I didn't see a way to output xml.
Those are all my questions for now. If you can help me out with even one of them, it would be much appreciated.
I'm composing a comparison table of database capabilities of severaldifferent products. I've read the Transact-SQL reference and havegathered most of the information needed for SQL Server 2000 (MSSQL),but there are some things that I'm not very sure of. Could someoneconfirm or complete the points below?* MSSQL can index binary data but only for BINARY & VARBINARY fieldsand not IMAGE.* ALTER TABLE can't rename column name/index name/constraint name.* A functional index (index on expression/function) can be definedusing user-defined function, e.g. CREATE INDEX idx ON t (MY_FUNC(f))* Maximum number of indexes per table?* SEQUENCE (as in PostgreSQL) is not supported, but there is a datatype called TIMESTAMP/ROWVERSION that is 64-bit. SEQUENCE can also beimplemented using a 'counter table'.* Regexp is not recognized, only standard SQL LIKE pattern.* Maximum number of schemas per database?* There is no BOOLEAN data type, but one can use BIT as analternative.* Does MSSQL use a generational/MVCC/record-versioning architecture,to allow writers to not block readers and vice versa?* Can several user-defined functions be created with the same name butwith different signatures (argument type)? For example, REVERSE(text)and REVERSE(varbinary).* Does MSSQL have/use WAL (write-ahead logs)?* Can a unique index contain multiple NULLs?
I have a winform application, where in we get the parameters from the reporting service and we display them in a panel for user's to input their criteria. So far everything worked good, but now we have a requirement wherein dynamic functionality is needed.
For Example:
Based on a selection of a combobox value, we want the other control to be enabled or disabled. Also we want default value of a control to be calculated based on another control's value like .. if user enters value "1" in textbox1 then texbox 2 should have default value of "6". (Textbox1 + 5).........and mix and match of such capabilities.
The Question is........IS IT POSSIBLE??? and if yes...HOW!!!
I've been given a brief to create a web based MI solution to enable users to gain information about their departments and drill down and analyse information presented to them.
I've been asked to look at Reporting services for this, we have been using Crystal Reports, but not to the extent of public facing MI delivery that this project demands.
Could I ask the forum some basic Questions?
1> Is it possible to produce live interactive reports for use on the internet with reporting services.
2> Can I produce reports that can drill down on data, and that can be tweaked so that they are extremly 'user freindly?
3> What are the chart options available, I have been asked to look into providing 'stickmen graphs'. In that a chart is produced to represent a population, and each item of the population is represented by a little man graphic.
4> Are there any good websites that have code snippets and the like to SSRS?
5> Can you recommend any good books.
Thanks in advance for any reponses to these queries.
My desire is to have my primary db in FL and an online hot standby in both my MI and CA offices. The hardware is in place, as well as T1 size pipes. The solution I'm looking for would have all databases online in case of hardware / environmental failure although the application would only be pointing at the primary (or designated) database server. We have another 3rd party solution available, but I'd like to stay native SQL if possible.
Is replication the way to go?
Does one-to-many work?
Can all the db's be online and available while replicating?
Can I catch up if switched to one of the other db's temporarily?
note:This is 100% SQL 2005.
Thanks -- sorry for the newbie-flavor of the question, but I'm sure a gazillion people have already been down this decision branch.
Simply put, I have a 'Date and Time', (06/03/2006 11:40:00), passed to the SelectCommand via the QueryString. I would like to gain data that is between the supplied time and 1 hour prior.Is there a simple way to take 1 hr off the 'Date and Time" value or is it necessary to build code that parses the string then adjusts it? The 'Time' and 'TimeStamp' entities below are both of type 'Date and Time' and all values are gained from the same sql database. I.e. the time used as the basis for selecting the hr period is from the same database as the one where the hour period will be selected from. Any help would be great.
SelectCommand="SELECT [Timestamp], [Volume] FROM [out8$] WHERE (([CustomerLvl1] = @CustomerLvl1) AND ([Timestamp] = @Timestamp))"> <SelectParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="TNT Express" Name="CustomerLvl1" QueryStringField="Cust" Type="String" /> <asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="20/02/2006 22:20:00" Name="Timestamp" QueryStringField="Time" Type="DateTime" />
I have an issue using parameterised reports connecting to Oracle using "ODBC" and "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" using parameteried reports. The following error is generated "ORA-01008 not all variables bound (Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle)" and a similiar one for ODBC. It works fine for simple reports. Do these 2 drivers have issues passing parameters for a remote Oracle query? Thanks.
Exception from HRESULT: 0xC0204018 (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)
------------------------------ BUTTONS:
OK ------------------------------ For most of my queries to Oracle I can cast the columns to get rid of the error (CAST x AS DECIMAL(10) etc), but this does not work for:
1) Union
I have a select like "SELECT NVL(myColumn, 0) .... FROM myTable UNION SELECT 0 AS myColumn, .... FROM DUAL"
Even if I cast the columns in both selects (SELECT CAST(NVL(myColumn, 0) AS DECIMAL(10, 0) .... UNION SELECT CAST(0 AS DECIMAL(10, 0)) AS myColumn, .... FROM DUAL) I still get the error above.
2) SQL command from variable
The select basically looks like this:
"SELECT Column1, Column2, ... FROM myTable WHERE Updated BETWEEN User::LastLoad AND User::CurrentLoad"
Again, even if I cast all columns (like in the union), I still get the same error.
we recently got a scenario that we need to get the data from oracle tables which is installed on third party servers. we have sqlserver installed on ourservers. so they have created a DBLINK in oracle server to our sqlserver and published the DBLINK name.
what are the next steps that i need to follow on my sqlserver in order to access the oracle tables ?
On my dev server I have working ssis packages that use connections Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle MSDAORA.1 and Oracle provider for oledb and OracleClient data provider.
I use one or the other according to my needs.
In anticipation and to prepare for the build of a new production server, I have build a test server from scratch and deployed to it the entire dev.
Almost everything works except Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle.
ssis packages on the test machine will return an error
Error at Pull Calendar from One [OLE DB Source [1]]: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "one.oledb" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
Error at Pull Calendar from One [DTS.Pipeline]: component "OLE DB Source" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.

An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Oracle error occurred, but error message could not be retrieved from Oracle.".
I have used the same installers for OS, SQL and Oracle SQL*Net on both dev and test machines. The install and then the restore/deployment on Test went fine.
Does anyone could point me to the right direction to solve this issue?
I am trying to make an oracle publiching from sql server 2005 enterprise final release, i installed the oracle client 10.2 (10g) on the same server where sql server already installed, i made different connection to oracle database instance and it was ok.

Hi - I'm short of SQL experience and hacking my way through creating a simple search feature for a personal project. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me out with writing a stored procedure. Problem: I have two tables with three columns indexed for full-text search. So far I have been able to successfully execute the following query returning matching row ids: dbo.Search_Articles @searchText varchar(150) AS SELECT ArticleID FROM articles WHERE CONTAINS(Description, @searchText) OR CONTAINS(Title, @searchText) UNION SELECT ArticleID FROM article_pages WHERE CONTAINS(Text, @searchText); RETURN This returns the ArticleID for any articles or article_pages records where there is a text match. I ultimately need the stored procedure to return all columns from the articles table for matches and not just the StoryID. Seems like maybe I should try using some kind of JOIN on the result of the UNION above and the articles table? But I have so far been unable to figure out how to do this as I can't seem to declare a name for the result table of the UNION above. Perhaps there is another more eloquent solution? Thanks! Peter
Our clients want to be able to do full text search with a single letter. (Is the name Newton, Nathan, Nick?, Is the ID N1, N2...). Doing a single character full text search on a table work 25 out of 26 times. The letter that doesn't work is 'n'. the WHERE clause CONTAINS(full_text_field, ' "n*" ') returns all rows, even rows that have no 'n' in them anywhere. Adding a second letter after the "n" works as expected.
Here is an example
create table TestFullTextSearch ( Id int not null, AllText nvarchar(400) ) create unique index test_tfts on TestFullTextSearch(Id); create fulltext catalog ftcat_tfts;
I have a scenario of where the standard Full-Text search identifies keywords but Semantic Search does not recognize them as keywords. I'm hoping to understand why Semantic Search might not recognize them. The context this is being used in medical terminology and the specific key words I noticed missing right off the bat were medications.
For instance, if I put the following string into a FT indexed table
'J9355 - Trastuzumab (Herceptin)' AND 'J9355 - Trastuzumab emtansine'
The Semantic Search recognized 'Herceptin' and 'Emtansine' but not 'Trastuzumab'
Nor in
'J8999 - Everolimus (Afinitor)'
It did not recognize 'Afinitor' as a keyword.
In all cases the Base of Full-Text did find those keywords and were identifiable using the dmvsys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document.It does show the index as having completed.
why certain words might not be picked up while others would be? Could it be a language/dictionary issue? I am using English and accent insensitive settings?
I've been searching for a solution for this for a week-ish, so I thought I would post my quesiton directly. Here is my scenario..
Source: MS SQL Server
Destination: Oracle 10g
The destination table has a partition set on a column called "DATE_HIGH". How do I populate this date high column in my package? Currently I just have a source object, and a destination object, but I'm unclear how to populate this field in the destination. I've read one blog that states "use OLE DB Command" - but that isn't enough information for me to implement - Can someone be more specific in these steps? Here is an example of what my newb-ness needs to understand
OLE DB Source (Select * from Table) ---> OLE DB Command (What query goes here?) --> OLE DB Destination.
Second part of my question: There is a second column called "ROW_NUM" and there is an Oracle Sequence provided to me... What objects do I need (Source, Destination, OLE DB Command etc...) and how do I call this sequence to populate on the fly as I'm loading data from my source?
If these are simple questions - my appologies, I am new to the product.
I have designed a DTS package which will migrate a view from Sqlserver 2000 to Oracle.My package is using Microsoft OLEDB provider for Oracle driver for connecting to oracle.Im able to execute this package on the my system ie on the system where sqlclient is installed(Oracle client is also installed on my machine) .But when im doing it on the server im not able to do it.The Connection to Oracle Fails. I wanted to know in order to connect to Oracle from the server,is it necessary that Oracle has to be installed on the server?.If yes, is it enough if i install oracle client on the server or Oracle Server version has to be installed on Server.

I have the OraOLEDB.Oracle provider installed to the (C:oraclexe) directory.
I am having problems querying from linked oracle server. When i setup oracle as a linked server and purposely enter an incorrect password the query i run tells me i have an incorrect password. So it at least knows that. when i set the correct password and run a query I get this error:
(i replaced the real server name with "someServer".)
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "SomeServer".
would you use sql server "full text search" feature as your site index? from some reason i can't make index server my site search catalog, and i wonder if the full text is the solution. i think that i wll have to you create new table called some thing like "site text" and i will need to write every text twice- one the the table (let's say "articles table") and one to the text. other wise- there is problems finding the right urlof the text, searching different tables with different columns name and so on... so i thought create site search table, with the columns: id, text, url and to write every thing to this table. but some how ot look the wrong way, that every forum post, every article, album picture or joke will insert twice to the sqr server... what do you think?
I have installed the Adobe iFilter 11 64 bit and set the path to the bin folder. I still cannot find any text from the pdf files. I suspect I am missing something trivial because I don't find much when I Bing for this so it must not be a common problem.Here is the code.
--Adobe iFilter 11 64 bit is installed --The Path variable is set to the bin folder for the Adobe iFilter. --SQL Developer version 64 bit on both Windows 7 and Windows 8. USE master; GO DROP DATABASE FileTableStudy; GO CREATE DATABASE FileTableStudy ON PRIMARY
need a clue about how to migrate the data from an Oracle applications 11.03 and underlying Oracle 8.05 database to navision 4.0 running sql server 2000
I have a table that contains words that will be used to search another table where FullText index has been created on searchable columns. I'm basically trying to run something like this:
SELECT t1.col1, t2.col3 FROM tbl1 t1, tbl2 t2 WHERE CONTAINS (t1.col1, t2.col1)
I know this won't work but is there a way to join these two tables so the words (t2.col1) can be passed as search conditions? There is no common key on both tables so normal join won't work. I'm trying to find a way to pass the search words from one table to another.
I have Sql server 2005 SP2. I enabled it for Full Text search. Substring search where i enter *word* doesn't return any row. I have a table testtable where description has word Extinguisher.
If i run a query with *ting* it doesn't return any row. select * from testtable where contains(description,'"*xting*"') ;
But it works if i do select * from testtable where contains(description,'"Exting*"') ;
The Full text search document says it supports substring search. Is it an issue with sql server 2005?Please help.
I am using Sql Server 2014 Express edition.I have a table with a varchar(max) column. I have created a full text search that use the stoplist "system". column has this struct: xxx.yyy.zzz.... where xxx, yyy, zzz... are numbers, like 123.345.123123.366456...I can have rows like that:
select * from Mytable where contains(MyColumn, '123.345.')
I gues the contains would return all the rows with column contains 123.345, but this does not return all the expected rows, only one row.I have tried to replace "." with "-" but the result is the same.I have also tried with '123.345.*. In this case I have got more results, but no all the exptected rows.If I use this query:
select * from MyTable where MyCOlumn like '123.345.%';
My application which ran perfectly well yesterday suddenly stopped working in this morning with following error message. I didn't change anything, at least I believe. Interesting thing is that I don't use any Oracle connection but connects to MS SQL Server 2005 Express version locally. Error messages are different according to the connection string though I don't think it makes difference: ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;SSPI=true" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 ="Unable to get records. Object reference not set to an instance of an object." ConnectionString = <add key="Databasehandtool1" value="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Database=handtool;User Id=handtool_DB;Password=mypassword" />ErrorMessage from VS2008 = "Unable to get records. Unable to connect to database. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified." By the way, the application was generated from IronSpeed 5.1 Enterprise. My development environment is : VS2008, SQL2005 EXPRESS, Windows XP SP2, ASP.NET 2.0 We have actually an Oracle server in the network though. My gut feeling is that something might have changed in my network server during the night but how come it can possibly affect my application running on my local PC. I checked the connection of local SQL Express Server from SQL Server Management Studio and it connected well with UserID=handtoo_DB and showed all tables and stored procedures required for the application. So there is no problem in SQL Server database side. I would welcome and appreciate any input. fudata
This might seems a little 'out there', but has anyone tried doing ETL from an Oracle 10g ODS into an Oracle 10g DW, and from there into SSAS2005 cubes?
