I'm developing an app that when it starts, ask the user the username and password, if they are logins users in SQL 2000 they must enter the system, but i'm not really sure where can i declare that part?
i mean, this is my SQL connection string at the moment:
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("Server=VICPC;Database=northwind;UID=sa;PWD=admin;");
......
con.Open();
......
con.Close();
but that's the default SA login for SQL, what i need to do is to aprove that an user account actually exists in the system so i can see wich tables show him, and the restrictions to apply to him, if i just change this:
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection("Server=VICPC;Database=northwind;UID=victor;PWD=password;");
it shows me just what i configured in the SQL account for that user?, the tables in the database Northwind and all that? or i'm missing something else? lets say that the user "victor" is not allowed to delete any records from table Categories, if i use that connection string it blocks me from deleting records as it should?
By the way the code example here is C# and this question is more related to SQL than C#, i hope you don't mind about the language, but i needed a piece of code to show :)
I have a script component. What it does, it queries the a table using a connectionstring assigned to it in the Connection Managers Editor (which is an ado.net adapter). this works fine when i'm using a windows login in the ado.net connection manager. But when i changed my connection to use SQL server login, I encounter this error:

hi all, i got the error, when i run my package after deploy into the server machine; i can able to run that package in my local machine, if i deploy it to the server or some remote machine, its not running, and rises error messages, that says cant accquire connection from the connection manager;
the problem might be with the login name and password; i could not see any password in any of my config file, or connection manager while running the package. how to resolve this problem?? please help me!
We have a SQL 2000 Active/Passive cluster running on Windows 2000. On one node, everything logs in fine (second node is powered off). I can use local authentication fine in OSQL (-E) and even see my connection in SQLEM current activity as [DomainUser] for the NT account which I am logged in as. Then I bring the second node online and initiate a failover. SQL Server starts but Cluster Admin cannot connect and starts throwing this Anonymous Logon error. I open a command prompt and try the same OSQL (-E) local login and sure enough it is also giving the Anonymous Logon connection user. I do not understand why the failover to a second node is causing the Trusted Connection Local authentication to switch to Anonymous instead of the [DomainUser] which I am using. Any help is appreciated. John.
Sir i am trying to connect sql from my LAN to my networked computers but whenever i tried to register it through Enterprise manager i get following "SQL Server registration failed because of the conection failure displayed below.Do you wish to Register anyway? Login failed for user 'SW17/Guest'

Some remote users can't login to the database-server with a trusted connection.
There's an error message indicating that the domain, which is the same for all users, is missing. In the EventLog we can see the successful logon in the security view (this time with domain) and the failed logon to SQL Server (without domain) in the SQL Server log.
We also managed to change default domain for SQL Server reported in xp_login_config through editing in the registry- settings. There are no other way to do it in SQL Server 7.0. But this doesn't help us.
Hi.. I have application which is connected to my SQL 2000 database. Normally our users use Terminal service to the SQL 2000 and application (same box) remotely and connect to the database. But some time the connection break and I have idle login stuck there.
For example, if I use sp_who, I can see many logins still login to DB even they are out. And sometimes I see duplicate logins too even there is only one person using that login to logon to DB. Is there a way to find out what is the idle timeout of the user login session??
Is that under SQL server properties -->remote server connections-->Query time-out--> >> sec ?
Is there a way to limit only 1 session can be allow for each login ??
I have sql server 2000 Personal Edition with service pack 4 loaded on a laptop running Windows XP and I'm trying to install a program that automatically loads all the tables and files to the SQL Server.
I keep getting the following error:
Your connection could not be created. Check your settings. The error was: Login failed for user "FileArch"
The program had been previously loaded on this laptop and I had to rebuild the hard drive. When I check Enterprise manager I see in Databases that the FileArch database is in Master as opposed to its own database.
The database missing is called FileArch.
If anyone can provide me with help to solve this I'd be grateful as a new member.
Microsoft SQL Native ClientCannot open database "thenameofdb" requested by the login. The login failed.
I thought as I am using a trusted connection I didn't need to login?? Have I got the connection string wrong?? any help very much appreciated... Thanks
I have encountered a problem with my data source connection. I have a data souce that uses a SQL Login to access a remote server. When I test the connection in the Data Source Designer all works fine. Even when I add the data source as a new data connection in my SSIS package an use it in a OLE DB Source component it works fine, in the preview window.
But when I try to run the package in debug mode i get the following error message,

I'm getting the following error: login failed for user '(null)', Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.Here's my connection string : <add key="ConnectionString" value="Persist Security Info=True; Trusted_Connection=Yes; Integrated Security=SSPI; Application Name=CCMIS; Initial Catalog=CCMIS; Data Source=NameofServer; Network library=dbmssocn; Packet Size=4096;" /> I'm running a windows application that calls a web service to update a SQL database. The application is using a windows group account and the between the web service & the SQL server it's using a domain account. My user-id is a member of the windows group account. I'm not sure of the relationship between the domain account and the group account or if there is one? I'm new to this permissions stuff. The DBA tells me nothing has changed on the SQL side and I haven't done anything to the application (which was working yesterday). Any ideas?
I have copied my web site to the default folder on IIS 5.1 (I am using XP Pro), and now when i run the app, i get to the login page and after hitting "Login" button the page refreshes and clears the fields but no error message. I am not sure what to do.

HI, I'm still on the steep side of the learning curve with ASP.NET. I've looked through a number of threads on this forum, and have gotten pieces of the answer, but need help getting past a roadblock.
I haven't been able to get a simple test application to connect to the Pubs database loaded on my system running MSDE. The only control in the application is a WebDataForm created by the Wizard. Everything works well (even the Preview Data form the Data menu loads and displays the correct data), except when the form is viewed in a browser. Click the load button and an error:Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
Similar stories are common on this forum, and I tried to address the problem. I'm quite sure it's a autherization or authentication problem. I have Windows Server 2003 (with IIS 6.0), VS.NET 03 and MSDE as the SQL server on the same box. The MSDE server is using Windows Security mode. I Created a new user called ASPNET on the Windows Server. I added a login to the SQL Server 'WinServerNameASPNET' using windows auth. Still get the same login failed message.
Is there something I'm missing? Do I have to add a new user to IIS?
For the record, what users/settings do I need to have in Windows, SQL-Server and IIS, get past this login problem.
Thanks for answering this basic question - one more time.
I'm trying to connect to sqlserver express using dreamweaver mx. TYhey are both installed on the same machine (win 2000 server),
What I am confused about is the user and password, I have installed the example Northwind database and attempting to connect to it.
In dreamweaver I add a connection (SQL Server connection) , a template shows and I add the data:
Persist Security = false; Data Source =mycomputersqlexpress; Initial Catalog = Northwind; User ID = ? Password = ?
What do I put in the User ID, Password and how do I configure sqlserver (I'm using Server Management Studio).. As I said I already have Northwind under the database section? but don't know how to set permissions.. Thanks
I have 2 (XP Pro) machines -- each with its own instance of 2005 Express. I wrote a simple test in C# to access a few global vars such as @@VERSION.
When I run the test on 1 machine it works fine, but on the other machine it fails with the message: login failed for user sa, not a trusted connection. Both instances of Express have mixed mode authentication enabled & remote connections enabled.
If I add Integrated Security=true to the connection string, the test works on both machines. I believe this forces the connection to authenticate using Windows instead of SQL Server.
I have created a new user & password in Express, but the results are the same: 1 machine works & 1 fails.
The machine that fails is missing the following from the list of logins:
In fact, after poking around, I can see the problem with just the 2005 Management Console. Cannot access the 1 machine with SQL authentication using either of 2 users -- just in case I got 1 wrong.
Any help will be appreciated. I've run out of any good ideas.

Hi, I have an ASP.Net web application running in groupnamewebservername. I am trying to connect it to the remote database server groupnamedatabaseservername using the ASPNET user id. The remote database is SQL Server 2005 and the web server has IIS 6.0 installed. My web.config connection entry has username as "groupnamewebservernameaspnet" and I have a database user in remote database server under the login name groupnamewebservername$. When I try to connect, I keep getting the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'groupnamewebservernameaspnet'.
Could you please let me know what I am doing wrong here? Thanks. Regards, Gayathri.
I set up SQL Express and Visual Studio Team System for the first time yesterday. I created a web service (on my localhost IIS) and added an MDF file to my App_Data folder. I added a table with five fields. I'm trying to connect to the database in my web service, but when my web service gets to the connection line it returns the error
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
When I add in my domain name and password to the connection string I get the error
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'redmonddanmor'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
I've queried these SQL forums, and the advice is usually "add the user to the trusted users" or "changed to mixed mode authentication", but none of the posts I found specified HOW exactly to do either. When I launch SQL Server Connection Manager all I can appear to do is stop and start the service. I'm not sure what needs to be set for SQLEXPRESS properties to log on as Network Service, Local System, or Local Service.
I followed the steps outlined in a blog I found to setup SS2005 express for remote connections. Everything appeared to go smooth until I actually tried to logon ;)
I have Sql Server 2005 Express installed on my WinXP PRO machine at home (no domain). I have opened the ports on the firewall, etc.
When I try and login from the SQLCMD command line tool I get a Login Failed error. Here is the connection string that I'm trying to use: SQLCMD -S **.***.**.*SQLEXPRESS -U Steve -P MyPassword
The error: Login failed for user 'Steve'.
When I use Management Studio Express on the same machine running Sql Server, it shows the User name: NEVERSTILLSteve
'NEVERSTILL' is the name of my computer.
If I try and use that same username with a remote connection I get the same error.
I have googled for the error and msg code, but nothing fitting my situation is coming up.
I have a endpoint on our SQL Server and I've written a test .Net app to access it and it all works great. It uses the Integrated Login for Authentication.
My project in the end will have connections made to the endpoint via some custom code on a Non Windows/Linux platform. My concern is that there is no Authentication method that I can use from this client. Integrated is out since it not something you log into. SSL is out since there is no Cert store. Isn't there a way to use the SQL Authentication in a Mixed mode SQL Authentication install?
What are my other options? I need to be able to get data from our SQL server from this custom platform. We looked into using TDS protocol, but would rather not have to license it and develop a client on our platform. We wanted to just generate the HTTP Packets to send and receive the data.

Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command.Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. Many thanxs.
Hi Folks ...Question for everyone that I have not been able to figure out. I have an application that is spread across tiers:SQL Connection defined in Web.Config file that connects to SQLServer database.DAL layer created references SQL Connection in Web.Config file - have noticed this copies the connection string information to the local properties for each TableAdapter that is defined in the DAL layer.BLL Layer that references Table Adapters declared in the DAL layer.When the web site is called, the link will provide an encoded id.Sample call to website: http://www.mysamplesite.com/default.aspx?company=AE2837FG28F7B327Based on the encoded id that is passed to the site, I need to switch the connection string to use different databases on the backend.Sample connection string: Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=dbSystem_LiveCorp1;User ID=client;Password=live2006 I would need to change Initial Catablog to the following:Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=dbSystem_LiveCorp196;User ID=client;Password=live2006How do I do this and have the connection string reflected in all of the Table Adapters that I have created in the DAL layer - currently 100+ Table Adapters have been defined.As we gain new clients, I need to be able to have each clients information located in a different database within SQL Server. Mandated - I have no choice in this requirement. Being as I don't want to have to recreate the DAL for several dozen clients and maintain that whenever I make a change to the DAL to then replicate across multiple copies. There has to be a way to dynamically alter the SQLConnection and have it recognized across all DAL TableAdapters.I'm developing with MS-Visual Studio 2005 - VB. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ...David Any day above ground is a good day ...
Hello everyone. I'm very new to asp.net. I've been coding in vb.net for a while now (getting my associates degree in desktop application programming) and my boss wants all of my new applications to be web based now. Well, i decided to take some initiative on this and begin a new project for my department. This is a very small project. So far, everything is coming along alright (i found an eBook that's helped me quite a bit). Everything was cool until yesterday when i tried to connect to our sql server database. I get an error message stating:
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
Because i'm testing this on my system as well as the remote system which hosts the application, i can see the error message on the remote system. Here is the error it's giving me:

You can see my SQL Connection string in there as well. Can someone please help me with this? I can post the code to the entire page as well if that would help. I'm developing this with Dreamweaver MX 2004 (i like dreamweaver MUCH better than visual studio, especially for web design/development). Thanks,
Hello All, Login failed for user '(null)'. I know this issue is all over the forum, however i have not found any posts that help me resolve the issue. Situation: I have an ASP.NET 2.0 application hosted currently on XP pro(will be moving to 2003 Server) which connects to a SQL 2000 database that resides on a different server. I have taken the following step to implement my security. Given my account permissions to the database Put the following in my web.config <add name="MyName" connectionString="Data Source=MyServer;Initial Catalog=MyDatabase;Integrated Security=SSPI" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> <authentication mode="Windows" /> <identity impersonate ="true" /> I have set IIS to use integrated authentication and removed anonymous. The application works when run from the web server but not when run from a remote machine. Thank you for any asistance, George
I unable to setup a linked server on sql server 2012. The destination server is on sql server 7.0. I can able to setup the same linked server on sql 2005 sp4 and sql 2008 r2 but unable to setup on 2012. I am getting the below error message. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server "" returned message "Client unable to establish connection due to prelogin failure".
I have some problem here. I have a sql server installed on one machine and I have another development machine for my asp application. How could I actually access the asp application and sql server at the same time from another machine within the network. I kept on getting the error message above.
I have 2 windows 2003 server, i instllaed sql server 2005 enterprise edition on the first one (Mixed Mode), and i am trying to install sql server reporting 2000 on the second one,
I installed the sql 2000 connectivity only on the second one , and i installed the sql server sp4 also, while installing reporting services i used the sql login account (sa,pwd)
i got the following error :
Cannot connect to sql server instance ...
Login failed for user ''. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
NB1: Allow Remote connection is enabled on sql server 2005.
NB2: I tried to connect from server 2 to server 1 from odbc and it worked properly with (sa,pwd) i have only a problem from reporting server.
Hello, here we have 2 developers, one developer has sql 2005 in his machine, the connection string has Integrated Security=SSPI, that developer can connect to the application, the other user gets that error when he tries to execute the application froms its own IIS.
The sql server has windows authentication, I want that the application uses one account, I tried to create one account, and give db_owner to it on the database, then I changed the connection string and it happens the same thing.
