I am new to asp.net, C#, and sql server, coming from php and ODBC/Access background (trying to leave all that behind) Anyway, I have a textbox that will be used to INSERT a date into a SQL datetime field. The date coming from the textbox will be formatted like "MM/dd/yyyy". For my purposes the day, month, and year are all that I require, the time is irrelevant. Then from a different page in the site I will be using a variable containing the current date derived from "DateTime.Now.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy")" to select records with a matching date. Is there anyone that has an example showing both inserting into a datetime field and extracting records based off the date format that I have specified? Would it be better to use a different format? In the past I have stored dates as a julian in an int field type but I would rather learn to use the datetime field type in sql. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them as datetime but it failed.

but in the file, there is a membership# field, it has format like ??-??-????, for some reason, openrowset insist to parse it into a datetime datatype, not sure how it does it, since even I change that data in the first row to any string, it still tries to parse that data in other row, and it ends up with error since most of those data is not in datetime range.

Hi, I have a column of type datetime in sqlserver 2000. Whenever I try to insert the date '31/08/2006 23:28:59' I get the error "...datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value" I've looked everywhere and I can't solve the problem. Please note, I first got this error from an asp.net page and in order to ensure that it wasn't some problem with culture settings I decided to run the query straight in Sql Query Anaylser. My variable expression needs to look like this:

My sql server fx_function recieves as a parameter datetime, my variable SomeDateVariable is datetime type.
I tried all different types of cast on @User :: SomeDateVariable but I either can't evaluate the expression or I have errors trying to execute the package.

I'm probably not looking in the right place, but all I could find when creating a data flow task was OLE DB Commands. I was trying to utilize a dataaccesslayer piece of code that we use every where in our projects, but because it uses ADO and not OLE DB, it caused an issue between the column data types.
Is there an ADO command object available? Or are we forced to use the OLE DB command object? All I was looking to do was to Execute a SQL command. There's an object on the Control Flow level to do that, but not on the Data Flow level---not sure why that is.

One of these articles suggests something has been fixed in ssis sp1, what part of this issue was fixed?
Can you override (from the command line) a user var in ssis whose ValueType property is datetime? Or do some of the older articles still apply, ie the user var must be string so that ssis wont create a separate user var with the same name etc etc? And if it is string, does some kind of conversion need to be done to compare it against datetime cols in t-sql inside the pkg?

Hi all!!I'm developing a project using VS 2005 (C# code) and SQL Server 2005.I have some problems with the data type 'DateTime'.In some parts of my project, I have used DataSets and DataAdapters and I can insert in a dataRow a data type 'DateTime' and it is inserted as dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss. That's OK.But in other parts I'm not using Datatables and DataAdapters and I insert new rows in the database using ExecuteNonQuery, but the data type 'DateTime' in the format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss is not valid. It only allows formats like mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss, but I want the other format.Why is dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss working with DataAdapters? Why is dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss not working with ExecuteNonQuery? Is there any way to specify in the Database that I want the format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss??Thanks in advance folks,Javier.
The SQL will take date from 01/01/1753 to 01/01/9999 for a datetime data type. Now I have some record date back to 06/09/1686. What I should do? Declare that field as string or some other way can do it. Thanks so much for any help. Helen
I have a datetime data_type column in a table and when i push data ( which is just date there is no time in it.) through a perl script into ms sql 2005 i see date and time in ms sql. were in the time is 00.00.00.000 some thing. I am using OLEDB Command transformation in a data flow to update the table. Find the columns for the table EMP as follows.
EmpID - int EmpName - varchar(40) EmpSal - float Status - varchar(20)
I am using the following command to update the table.
Update EMP set status = 'Disabled' where EmpID = ? and EmpSal = ?
when I use the above condition the type of the second parameter is taking as "double precision float" as the incoming input column type is "double - precision float". This is fine.
But when I use the following condition the type of the param is taking as different one.
Update EMP set status = 'Disabled' where EmpID = ? and ( EmpSal + ? ) = 0
It is taking as "four byte signed integer" even though the incoming input column type is "double precision float" thus I am loosing the precision and getting error when the limit exeeds. If I use 0.0 then it is taking as "Numeric" type.
If I use convert function like (EmpSal + ? ) = Convert(float, 0) then it is taking as "double precision float". Update EMP set status = 'Disabled' where EmpID = ? and ( EmpSal + ? ) = Convert(float, 0)
My question is how it behaves in the above situation. Can any body clarify please?
