The IP Address Of Our SQL Server Is To Be Changed

Apr 22, 2003

Hello,

Soon, we are going to redesign our servers and their positioning insofar as web access is concerned. The SQL Server will go to a DMZ.

Its IP Address (as well as hostname) is to be changed. Can you offer suggestions about what to be aware of on these two items?

I've been involved in a hostname change befoew (and, it's a pain), but never an IP Address.
Thanks, MichaelG

CPU Usage Changed After Upgrading To MS SQL Server 2000 From MS SQL Server 6.5

Feb 1, 2004

Hi All,

I had two Window NT 4.0 Server, say A and B... We recently upgraded from MS SQL Server 6.5 to MS SQL Server 2000 on Computer A, and for Computer B, I installed SQL Server 2000 from scratch. These two have a same RAM(512MB) and CPU speed...so the setup for hardware is almost identical...

For server A, there are around 10 connection to this SQL Server...
For server B, there are also around 10 connection to this SQL Server...

The database for SQL Server B is a copy from SQL Server A.... I restored the database on SQL Server B from the backup dump of Server A...

We have a store procedure called usp_GetMemo(ID Interger) ... we feed ID number to this store procedure and return its return Description... this table has ID column and it's Non-Cluster index, allow the duplicate row... there are 1.7 million records for this table...

Here is problem... whenever i execute more than 100 times for this store procedure(usp_GetMemo(ID)) continuously, the CPU usage of Computer A is 3 times bigger than computer B....

I did run the command "DBCC DBReindex" , "Update Statistics" for this table on computer A, but did not make any difference...

Keep in mind that Computer A has been upgraded to SQL server 2000 while Computer B installed from scratch... would that make difference somehow?? Before the upgrading, the CPU usage of computer A is the same as Computer B...

Any help will be really appreciated,
Thanks alot,
Kim,

Cannot Connect To SQL Server Database Using Ado.net After IP Address Has Changed

May 4, 2004

Dear all,

I wasn't able to connect to my SQL server 2000 database (which reside in the network in a windows 2003 server) after the IP address of the server has changed and the server is shut down, moved and re-started.

I was able to connect to this server by using ADO using VB. I was able to register this server in my EM and was able to create ODBC connection. Just when using ADO.NET, I wasn't able to connect. Any ideas? Will there be any caching within ADO.NET still pointing to the old IP address?

Thank you for all the help in advance.

Updating Changed Row Via Trigger In SQL Server 2000?

Jul 20, 2005

Hi All,I'm a relatively newbie to SQL Server 2000, having come from a MySQLbackground.I'm creating my first Trigger statement on a table, and I'd like toknow how I go about performing an update on the row that was changedwhen the trigger was fired. To explain, I have 2 columns, one which contains a member number, theother which contains a flag that is supposed to indicate whether ornot the member number in the row has changed since the last time thetable was processed for updates. So, whenever the value in the member number field [memnum] is updated,I want to set the flag [igproc] to true. The best I've been able to do is:CREATE TRIGGER [updateignoreprocflag] ON [dbo].[dd_testtable]FOR UPDATEASdeclare @key as intIF UPDATE (memnum)select @key = recid from insertedUPDATE dd_testtable set igproc=1 where recid=@keyThis seems to work, but I'd like to know if there's a better way ofretrieving the recid value of the changed row to pass to the UPDATEstatement? Also, I read somewhere in passing that using SELECTstatements and variable assignments within triggers can cause problemswhen called from other applications; in this case it will either be aweb site using ASP.or an application developed in FOXPRO. I can't findwhere I read this originally, so it's entirely possible I imagined itor misunderstood it, but I'd very much appreciate it if someone couldconfirm whether or not this is the case? Many, many thanks in advance!Much warmth,Murray

SQL Server 2014 :: Subtotal When Vendor Code Changed

Jan 31, 2014

I need to write a stored procedure for a table with below columns

For instance the table had 5 columns like

VendorCode | UnitPrice | Qty | Total(UnitPrice*Qty) |
--------------------------------------------------------
V001 | 100 | 10 | 1000
V001 | 10 | 20 | 200
V222 | 20 | 5 | 100
V222 | 5 | 100 | 500

So am writing a Stored Proc to get all the table values like above ., but i need to write Stored Proc in such a way it returns the above table like result along with subtotal when ever vendor code changed. as below

VendorCode | UnitPrice | Qty | Total(UnitPrice*Qty) |
--------------------------------------------------------
V001 | 100 | 10 | 1000
V001 | 10 | 20 | 200
subtoal 110 30 1200 ----- this subtoal should be displayed from Stored procedure
V222 | 20 | 5 | 100
V222 | 5 | 100 | 500

SQL Server 2012 :: Find Changed Rows (and Row Prior To Changes)

Jul 22, 2014

I have a table (represented by #Events) that holds modifications made to another table. I do have some control over the table structure and indexing. I want to pull all of the change records that were made between two dates.

The tricky part is to include the previous version of each record, which will usually be found prior to the start date in question.

The code that I have provided below works. So you can use it to easily see what should be returned. But it's very slow in production.

Any better method to pull this data together?

-- Production version of this table has 4.5 million rows (roughly 1,000 rows per day)
-- Primary key is on L4Ident (clustered)
-- nonclustered index on ProcessDate, LinkRL4
DROP TABLE dbo.#Events;
DROP TABLE dbo.#Results;
CREATE TABLE dbo.#Events (
L4Ident int IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,

Server Name Changed, SQL Server Doesn't Seem To Care... Or Does It?

Dec 6, 2007

Hi
Due to an impending acquisition the machine names of the SQL Server 2005 boxes are changing. Trying this in the DEV environment it seems that the SQL server instance name stays the same as the old machine name (It was installed using the default of the machine name) -- but the clients now won't connect with the old machine name, or the new machine name -- it only works with the IP address.

I'm guessing there's a sp_change_instance_machine_name or something along those lines but can't seem to find it in BOL. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in Advance

I Changed My Windows Password And Now I Cannot Connect To SQL Server On My Development Machine

Jun 11, 2007

I changed the login password on my computer today, and now I cannot connect to the SQL Server instance I have on that same machine. I am using Windows Authentication. I would think that, if I can log on to my computer, I would be able to connect to the database, since I have been "authenticated" by windows but, that does not appear to be the case. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

SQL Server 2008 :: TempDB Datafile Initial File Sizes Changed?

Mar 18, 2015

I have an instance with 4 datafiles for tempdb each set at initial size of 4G and growth rate of 100MB. After some time the initial file sizes seem to have changed automatically. They now read 3962,100,3688 and 2847 respectively. Is this something done by SQL Server itself? I cannot imagine that it was done manually.

I don't think there was a restart after the initial sizes of 4G were set, could this be related to the problem?

SQL Server 2008 :: Changed Database From Full To Simple - Maintenance Plan Failing

Mar 6, 2015

One of my programmers changed their database from full to Simple recovery. Saw that my job that backs up the Full Recovery mode databases failed, so I moved that database to my Simple database backup job plan and removed it from the Full Recovery job. I am unable to remove the db from the Transaction Log task on the Full Plan because when I try to edit that job "Databases with Simple Recovery will be excluded"

My transaction log backups are still failing with the following error: "The statement BACKUP LOG is not allowed while the recovery model is SIMPLE. Use BACKUP DATABASE or change the recovery model using ALTER DATABASE. BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Just want to remove that database so my Full Recovery backup job does not try to back it up.

Integration Services :: SSIS - Calling Windows Batch File Get Current Date Changed When Moved To New Server

Aug 20, 2015

We have a Job that calls a SSIS package 2005 that does some processing and execute a BAT file. This Job is being called by a web application. The BAT file creates a folder and named it based on the current date ( YYYY_MM) e.g 2015_07

echo %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
md %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
pause
exit 0

It was working okay in the SQL Agent 2005 server until we moved to the new server SQL Agent 2012 using the same package SSIS package 2005. Now the issue is, instead of creating the folder based on YYYY_MM, it's now being created as YYYY_DD.I've checked the Regional settings of both server and they have the same "ENGLISH (United States) format. I even ran the code below and they're returning the same output echo %date:~ 10,4%_% date :~4,2%

I know the BAT file can be improved by not depending current locale in WINDOWS, but I just want to understand how this issue occurs and how does the regional setting being overridden?

SQL Server 2005 Client Tools Not Shown Up In Start Menu On Windows 2003 Server

Jul 18, 2007

Hello,

I have installed SQL server 2005 enterprise edition on Windows 2003 virtual PC (full installation). The installation went through successfully. However, after install completed, I cannot find any of the client tools under the start menu -> all programs -> Microsoft SQL server 2005 menu. The only item listed under the SQL server 2005 is Configuration Tools, which is used to configure the database server.

I have tried to install the client component again (in case I didn't install them at the first place) but the installation process cannot be started since it detected that the client components have been installed already. I can also see the sql server native client running in the services.

The server engine is working fine since I can connect to that sql server using another machine where I have the client tool (SQL server management studio).

One of my friends has exactly the same problem. He installed the sql server 2005 Standard edition on windows 2003 server (full installation), but the client tools are not showing up in the start menu either.

I also checked the location for the SQL server management studio (Microsoft SQL server/90/Tools/Binn/VSShell/Common7/IDE), there is only one folder called publicAssemblies listed under. Is this correct or something is missing?

Thanks

SQL Server Won't Start

Jun 22, 2000

My SQL Server 7.0 was working for the last number of months until last night. When I came into the office this morning, it was down. I tried to restart it. It started and then shut itself down after about 10 seconds. I have tried to get the properties of the SQL Server, but I get an error message of "A connection could not be established to "the server name" - Communication link failure ConnectionWrite (WriteFile())..
Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQL Server registration properties."

The computer has been rebooted, twice. SQL Server is set to automatically started on boot up.

Can someone shed some light on this?

Should I re-install SQL Server?

Can Not Start Sql Server

Apr 5, 2000

Hi

I have a problem starting my SQL server. It all started when I had a database that has been trying to restore for days. I followed the instruction give by Kevin J McCarthy - (I did not follow the instruction correctly) - put a trace flag at start up flag 3608 -T3608. However, I did that within the Enterprise manager - under profile. Stopped the SQL server and tried to restart. It will not restart. I tried putting a /f flag at start up - this time under the NT service startup dialog box, I started the database, but I cannot access the SQL Server because of invalid login. In the NT event viewer, it has this message

Your profile was not successfully loaded, but you have been logged on with the default system profile. Please correct the problem and log off. (5)

I know I entered the correct login and password because I am the administrator. Please help!

Thanks in advance
