SQL Server 2005 Developer In My Computer, But ASP.NET Tab Configuration Was Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS?
Oct 12, 2006
Hello all
My computer was installed with SQL Server 2005 Developer version, however, I checked the Default Web Site in Internet Information Service console and saw that the ASP.NET configuration was not correct as below.
"data source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI; AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"
I have a question that can I replace the string, “.SQLEXPRESS”, with my server name and my SQL Server 2005 Developer named instance as below“DEVSERSQL2005Dev”?
Will SQL Server 2005 developer edition and Visual Web Developer Express work on the same machine? One reviewer of SQL Server 2005 developer edition on amazon.com stated won't work on the same machine? Is this true?
I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (most recently from MSDN Disk 3097.1) I have tried to complete an uninstall before each attempt.
I do get the warning about Minimum Hardware Requirement, but can find nothing in the detail requirements to exclude my PCs configuration.
I have installed: IIS and .NET Framework 2.0
I have also used ..aspnet_regiis -r to register ASP.NET
I am, successfully, running Visual Studio 2005.
Why does the installation process stop there and what can I do next?
Hello,I'm struggling a giant fight with my webprovider (ASP.net 2.0) in the following case:I'm using the default connectionstring which automatic is provided when I create an ASP.net webstarterskit. This connectionstring is working fine when i deployed that kit to a W2003 server testenvironment and is also running on my laptop. But when I tried to deploy the website to my (new) hostingserver, also a W2003 server, I landed in ERROR-land. The last error I received was:Cannot open database "Club" requested by the login. The login failed.> Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.NB: I gave that user the right privileges and roles. My provider is not willing in sending me an example of a good working connectionstring and is directing me to their FAQ-site in which the right connectionstring is mentioned. That string looks like this (for a MS SQL database):strConnectie = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;" & _ "Data Source=(local)SQLEXPRESS;" & _ "Initial Catalog=[GEBRUIKERSNAAM];" & _ "User Id=[GEBRUIKERSNAAM];" & _ "Password=[WACHTWOORD]"My connectionstring in web.config looks like this:<connectionStrings><clear/><add name="ClubSiteDB" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLExpress;Integrated Security=true;AttachDBFileName=|DataDirectory|Club.mdf;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/><remove name="LocalSqlServer"/><add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf" /></connectionStrings>Is there anybody in this forum that can help me out and explain to me how to use the string, as provided by the host, in the default connectionstring i use in web.config ??Any help is welcome and appreciated.NB: I'm using VWD 2005 Express Edition and SQL Server Management Studio ExpressHarry Elzinga
Can someone here confirm or deny that Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition doesn't work with SQL Server Developer Edition 2005?
I was about to order SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 on Amazon, to use with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, when I read a user comment that the two are incompatible with each other. Does anyone know for sure if that is true?
What I'm wanting to do is develop an ASP.NET web application on a web host using a SQL Server database. I use VS2003 and SQL Server Enterprise 2000 at work, but I'd like to learn the 2005 editions for this side project. I don't own any of the developer tools/IDEs personally, so I'm trying to find the most affordable way to do this for my home business.
Please if any one can answer.I am developing .net vb app sqlexpress database.
In single user work ok.In multiuser from other computer on network I cannot get data.Any form without data workok fine . The error I am getting is as follows.
Application attempted to perform operation not allowed by the security policy.
Hi there, I believe this is simple requirement but to me it seems to be complicated. My data source is excel. I would like to configure the path of my data source in SSIS Package and file name is not a constant value. SSIS package should pick the file named as Today's (current) date from the configured path. As well, package should catch the exception for example file not found and log into custom log. It would be gr8 if some body helps me out.
There are conflicting postings everywhere about this. I built a small site using VWD and SQL Server Express, but need to convert to Sql Server 2005 Developer because the DB will exceed 4Gb. Tried to install and could not connect or use from VWD. Tried to uninstall, got into large mess with the byzantine uninstall process, and have now started with a clean machine.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer first, then installed VWD Express 2008 without installing SQL Server Express. VWD won't let me connect to an existing database, won't let me add a new database and doesn't even show the Database Tools option under the Tools menu.
Is there someone with specific knowledge that can provide any enlightenment? Would be much appreciated.
I have a package that does simple exporting from an excel sheet to a table. I used a Dataflow task with Excel Source and OLEDB Destination Components. And i created Package configurations for Source and Destination Components. After than when i execute the package i get the following error.

Has anyone done this and about pulled thier hair out?
I downloaded visual express for web development with sql express. Running fine. Like SQL so much, decided to pop for the Developer package. I don't know what I was thinking, maybe I was going to pay for popcorn for billy g & family in the home theatre that night...but I digress.
After much consternation and a 4:00 a.m. adventure, I managed to get rid of SQL Express and install the developer edition. Now were fine. Even ran the aspnet_regsql and set up the aspnetdb database.
I'm thinking, back to development here.
I select APP_DATE and if I try to add the ASPNETDB.mdf file I get the application is being used by another process. Please close all applications that might access this file and try again. So, I then try to create a new database file. I get this error:
Connections to SQL Server Files ( *.mdf) require the SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly.
I can create a connection to the aspnetdb database in the database connections. However, as I work with some of the new ASP NET Membership/Role code, I find it doesn't work.
Will most code work if the ASPNETDB.mdf is not set up int he APP_DATA section?
Come on Microsoft, I can't be the only shoe-string developer that is going to try this.
Has anyone done this and resolved how to get these two to play along.
If I upgrade to Visual Studio, will I still be straddled with SQLExpress.
Can I run SQLExpress side by side with SQL Developer addition?
I have a got a package with source as sql table which has got 50 columns. We are using only 10 columns out of this. Recently one column name has changed and thus throws error invalid mapping. When I open the source to do the changes noticed that all the colums are prselected now and also the datatypes got changed to default ( I had changed the datatypes as per my requirement while i developed). So now I had to select required columns from source and redo the datatype changes in advanced editor. Is there any option which doesnt disturb this settings and we just need to correct the mapping alone.
I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express, Windows XP SP2. I connect using Windows authentication.
The data source that I'm trying to hit is on a remote server. It's an OpenLink ODBC Data source, and the server is in another location. SQL Server 2005 Express and the ODBC connection are both installed/configured locally on my machine.
I can connect to the remote server. The DSN exists as a System DSN.
The DSN has its own proprietary configuration utility, which I can configure so that the server name is XPLILLEYGSQLEXPRESS. The configuration utility doesn't care; I connect successfully one way or the other.
When I open Management Studio Express, I can see my database (CMS) listed under the "Databases" folder, but there's no tables in there, other than the system tables.
We are in the process of upgrading a SQL Server 2000 database to 2005. For the mean time, we're trying it out on SQL Server Express 2005. My question is, can reports in SSRS 2005 pull data from SQL Server 2000 in case both are installed side by side in the same machine and the 2000 version is the default instance while the 2005 express edition is the named instance?
An SSIS package to transfer data from a DB instance on SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2000 is extremely slow. The package uses an OLEDB Source to OLEDB Destination for data transfer which is basically one table from sql server 2005 to sql server 2000. The job takes 5 minutes to transfer about 400 rows at night when there is very little activity on the server. During the day the job almost always times out.
On SQL Server 200 instances the job ran in minutes in the old 2000 package.
Is there an alternative to this. Tranfer Objects task does not work as there is apparently a defect according to Microsoft. Please let me know if there is any other option other than using a Execute 2000 package task or using an ActiveX Script to read records from one source and to insert them into the destination source, which I am not certain how long it might take and how viable will that be?
Hello everyone. i am using vwd 2005 express edition along with sqlexpress 2005. if i need to use database in my project. i click on database explorer and create a new table from the existing database. it is working very fine. But my problem is when ever i copy the project in my pen driveand try to use in another computer, the database doesnot gets copied when i copy my project folder. well i also tried to copy the tables from the database explorer but it does not happen.i tried to locate where does the database get stored in my computer.but i cant find where it resides..and even if i find which file to copy?i think there is log file and database file in some cases. can some body clarify me this scenario here.just tell me where can i find my database i m using in my project,so that i can copy it . and also whats the use of creating .mdf file in the project.?is this the better way of using database rather than creating using database explorer?confused?? thanks.jack..
Hi All! i have a database in SQLEXPRESS 2005 but i need to this Database in SQL 2000...there is any way to move data from sqlexpress 2005 to sql 2000.... please help me.....
Hi, I have to transfer data from JDEdwards source system to SQL Server 2005 using SSIS. Is it possible for me to connect to JDEdwards directly from ODBC Connection Manager provided by SSIS. If not then what is the way to implement this
When I open SQL server configuration manager / expand SQL server 2005 network configuration, I have a Protocols for SQLEXPRESS but under SQL server 2005 services branch, I cannot find a reference to my SQLEXPRESS database service. This causes a problem because, I cannot enable or disable SQLExpress.
I've tried to remove the SQLExpress instance by going to Add/Remove Programs but it doesn't work. After I restart the computer, the entry SQLEXPRESS: database service is still there.
I cannot reinstall SQLEXPRESS either because it saids instance name already exist.
When I try 'net start mssql$sqlexpress' it saids "the service name is invalid"
When I try 'sqlcmd -S <my server name here>SQLEXPRESS it saids
HResult 0x274D, Level 16, State 1 TCP Provider: No connection could be made because the target machine actively re fused it.
Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : An error has occurred while establi shing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failu re may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.. Sqlcmd: Error: Microsoft SQL Native Client : Login timeout expired.
I'm pulling my hair out because according to the error message above, I should use surface area configuration tool to enable remote connections but I can't even see the SQLEXPRESS entry inside the tool!!!
HELP!! I have an asp.net app that uses Membership Provider and it used to work. but somehow it doesn't work because of this strange sqlexpress issue.
When I run the app I get the following error: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)

I am attempting to insert information from Visual Web Developer 2005 using either the Gridview or Datalist controls into a SQL Server 2005 database and get stuck when defining the custom statement. When I enter the text within the insert tab, the <next> button remains greyed out, preventing me from continuing to the next page.If I copy the same text into the select tab, then I can continue with the wizard, however this raises other problems which may or may not be related (multiple insertions of the data into the SQL Server database table - possibly due to postback functions). I would rather use insert to confirm that my second problem is not because I am using the wrong option. My question is:Should I be able to use the insert function within VWD express or is this only available within the standard/pro editions?
I am getting the following warning in the Application Event Log:
The configuration of the AdminConnectionTCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid.
The warning is logged by the SQLBrowser service.
This is happening on Windows 2003 server with SQL Server Express 2005. On the same machine SQL Server 2000 is installed.
I am currently unable to connect from remote clients to the instance of SQL Express and I believe it has to do with this warning (I've tried all the usual remote connection troubleshooting without success - enabled protocols, SQL Browser Service running, there is no firewall on the server, I disabled firewall on the client when trying to connect).
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
If you need additional information please let me know.
I installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional then after that was installed and running, I tried to install the the SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition which installed but I do not get the SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager. I have remove and reinstalled but it never gets installed. Any ideas?
(1) I have already installed of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition first.
(1) Can I install visual studio 2008 without the 2005 express edition of SQL server? Will be any problems because I don't have express edition of SQL server? Do I need to install the express edition of SQL server as well?
(3) How to use SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition instance on visual studio 2008?

Hi, I have an ASPNETDB.MDF (asp.net membership/profile db) that was generated for SQL Express, it has user information I need to keep. I have SQLExpress and full SQL Server 2005 running on the server. I want to remove SQL Express from the server. So can I simply do a backup of the SQL Express membership db and restore it to full SQL and change the connection string in my app or do i need to run the membership wizard on full sql and then do the backup / restore? Or is there another way. Thanks
I am unable to connect to a remote server on Computer A from Computer B, but when I reverse it I am able to connect to a remote server on computer B from computer A. I have SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on both computers. I am using the using the SQL Management Studio to connect. Both Computers have these settings
Using Surface Area Configuration both have local and remote connections checked. Both computers using tcp/ip only checked.
Using Configuration Manager both the sql server and the sql browser are running. Both computers have tcp/ip protocols enabled.
Under the server properties on both computers, under the Security Tab, I have SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode checked. Under the Connections tab I have Allow remote connections on this server checked.
I believe I have the Security for both the server and databases done properly giving them both proper Logins and User Roles with the proper permission.
Also went to my window firewall settings and under the Exceptions tab, I added both the sql server.exe and sql browser.exe programs on both computers on my remote network.
But when I connect on Computer B, I get an error message stating:
TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------

When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. I tried pinging server a and then server b and they both pinged.
Could someone please tell me what could be wrong on my remote computers.
I have SQL server 2005 on a Windows 2003 machine. The machine is old and I need to move the entire SQL server to a new machine. There are many databases and users that need to move across to the new server. Detaching and attaching the databases would be tedious due to the large number of databases. Is there a way of moving the DB's and SQL users to the new machine without having to do each db one at a time?
Additional info that might be helpful: The new server's IP address and name must also change to that of the old server. The old server initially had SQL 2000 on it and was upgraded to SQL 2005. The new server was installed with SQL 2005 only. Hence the Database and log paths differ between the old and new server.
I have installed SQL server 2005 and after I uninstalled it. and tried to install again but my computer recognize the old version of Sql Server 2005 and only allow to install documentation and client components
How to unintall Sql server 2005 complete from my computer ?
