SQL Server 2008 Connection Opening Problem.

Apr 26, 2008

Hi,

I have a application running on Biztalk server , VS 2008 and SQL server 2008.

I have opened a SQL connection string and referring some DB which works absoluetly fine.

But in my code in C#, i try to open another connection with some different database, as i apply the connection.open(), it gives me a very strange error of Sql server 2005. And i dont have Sql 2005 on my box.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)

Can you please help me out??
Thanks.

Having Trouble Opening Connection To SQL Server From A C# ASP.NET Web Service.

Oct 29, 2004

Well here is my connection string, I used these details to succesfully access the server from mySQL gui.

SqlConnection shhfd = new SqlConnection ("Data Source=http://www.mydomain.co.uk; " +
"user id=mteccles; password=mypass; connection timeout=30; "

then... try { shhfd.Open(); blah blah blah.

The exception caught is as follows.

at System.Data.SqlClient.ConnectionPool.GetConnection(Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnectionPoolManager.GetPooledConnection(SqlConnectionString options, Boolean& isInTransaction) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open() at WebService1.Service1.HelloWorld() in g:inetpubwwwrootwebservice1service1.asmx.cs:line 120

My guess is that something in the web.config isn't right or maybe the host (webfusion) is strange. Thanks if anyone can help.

Problems Opening SQL Server 2000 Connection From Website

Feb 15, 2007

I am getting the error message below when trying to connect to SQL Server 2000.  Here are the details:

Problem is occuring with a new website trying to connect to SQL Server.  The error occurs right at the open statement.
Using SQL Server 2000
Web server is on a different machine than SQL Server
I have many websites connecting to this SQL Server.  Websites are all on the same webserver.
I can connect to this SQL Server using the Query Analyzer using the same ID  and  PW as in my connection string
My web application runs OK using this SQL Server when I run it from my laptop - just changed the connection string Initial Catalog parameter.
Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server 2008 :: Failed To Acquire Connection (Local Server Connection)

May 5, 2014

Occasionally I'm seeing the following error when tranlog or full backup maintenance plan is executing.

Failed-1073573396) Failed to acquire connection "Local server connection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.

What is strange is that it goes away without any action from myself. We have a tranlog backup that is scheduled every hour. I had this error happen once in the middle of the night. It looks like the job was running fine because almost all the backups are there. I've searched and not found a resolution to this error. I checked the event log and don't see any issues and even tried rebuilding the maintenance plans.

SQL Server 2008 :: Connection Manager Not Using Connection String Value

Feb 19, 2015

I have a child package where the ConnectionString property of a Connection Manager is set by a Parent Package Variable Configuration. I set up a script task that brings up a message box with the value of the ConnectionString property right before the dataflow task.

MessageBox.Show(Dts.Connections["CPU_*"].ConnectionString.ToString());When I run the parent package, the message box shows that the connection string is changing with every iteration, but in the dataflow it always draws the data from the same source.

The connection manager is an ADO.Net type, RetainSameConnection is set to False, and I've been researching this for days.

(Update 2/23/2015): To make this stranger, when I look at the diagnostic logs, they tell me that when the new connections are being opened they are using the new connection strings.

Which Is The Correct Way Of Opening A Connection?&>

Jul 14, 2006

Hi
I access a DB by as abvious creating a DB Connection and then sending  a querry to it. Finally creating an SQL Command and then exuting it.

But the thng is I am using a static function:
which opens a new connection and returns a data reader based on the querry. i.e

pubblic static SqlConnection OpenConnection()
{
try
{
string connectionString = "Data Source=mm\SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=monsoonDB;Integrated Security=True";
SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString);
conn.Open();
return conn;
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
throw;
}
}

Now I have the execute selectquerry function.....
public static SqlDataReader ExecuteSelectQuerry(string querry)
{
try
{
SqlConnection conn = OpenConnection();
SqlCommand scomm = new SqlCommand(querry, conn);
SqlDataReader sdr = scomm.ExecuteReader();
return sdr;

}
catch (Exception e)
{
return null;
}
}}

now my question is....the instance of conn is limited only to that function only, and not returned outside. Whereas only the SqlDataReader is returned outside. Does that have any abnormal affect on the application. Since my ASP Application is getting locked (not doing anything, nt even post back!) sometimes after a few DB operation.

Arent these connections and instances Managed (auto garabage collection)?? Can  memory leaks under such a situation occur.
Please help

Thanks

Trouble Opening A Connection To SQL 2000 DB

Apr 4, 2006

I'm developing an intranet site in ASP.NET 2.0 but I can't seem to connect to the DB from within my code. I've created a .vb class that houses a private Connection() that other functions within the class can call to connect to the database. In the calling function, I've declared my connection object and called the "Open" method on the object. However, when I attempt to execute the stored procedure command by calling the "ExecuteScalar" method, I get the following error:
"ExecuteScalar requires an open and available Connection. The connection's current state is closed."
Here's the code from my class:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Namespace Encompass
Public Class EncompassSecurity
Public Shared Function GetHRIDByNTUserID(ByVal strNTUserID) As String
Dim strHRID As String
'Create command object
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("usp_Get_HRID_By_NTUserID", Connection())
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
'Open DB connection
Dim DBConnection As SqlConnection = Connection()
DBConnection.Open()
'Input parameters
Dim inNTUserParam As New SqlParameter("@NT_UserID", SqlDbType.VarChar)
inNTUserParam.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
inNTUserParam.Value = strNTUserID
cmd.Parameters.Add(inNTUserParam)
'Output parameters
Dim outHRIDParam As New SqlParameter("@HRID", SqlDbType.Int)
outHRIDParam.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output
cmd.Parameters.Add(outHRIDParam)
'Run stored procedure
strHRID = cmd.ExecuteScalar()
Return (strHRID)
'Close DB connection
DBConnection.Close()
End Function
Private Shared Function Connection() As SqlConnection
Dim strConnectionString As String
strConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("Conn").ConnectionString

End Class

Newbie Q Regarding Opening A Connection To A Database

Jan 2, 2005

Hello, Im new with databases.

I know that opening a connection to a DB is expensive. Usually I write a method that opens a connection to the DB then I execute a query and then close the connection. Pretty standard.

OK, so how do I handle opening connections to the database when I need to run multiple queries. For example, i have a webpage that need to query the database to see if the user has moderator privledges, then depending on that query I have to query the DB again for moderator specific information or non-modertaor information.

So in this case how do i handle opening connections to the DB. Is it ok to generally have to open a connection to a DB multiple times on a page load?

The obvious solution is to keep the connection open. That is, open a connection, query the Db, keep the connection open, do the conditional statment ( if is_Moderator) then query the DB again for the info that I need, and then close the connection. But, from all the books that Ive been reading this is not a good practice because business logic should not been in the dataAccess layer.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Bulk Update Of All Changes From DataView To DataSet (only Opening Connection Once)?

Feb 15, 2008

(Hope this isn't a "stupid" question, but I haven't been able to find a straight-forward answer anywhere)"
I currently have code that iterates through a dataview's records, making a change to a field in some of the records. The way I have this coded, a conection has to opened & closed for each individual record that's updated:
    dsrcUserIae.UpdateCommand = "UPDATE UserIAE SET blnCorrect = @blnCorrect WHERE (ID = @ID)"    dsrcUserIae.UpdateParameters.Add("blnCorrect", SqlDbType.Bit)    dsrcUserIae.UpdateParameters.Add("ID", SqlDbType.Int)
    Dim myDataView As DataView = CType(dsrcUserIae.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), DataView)         For Each myRow As DataRowView In myDataView       If myRow("FkUsersAnswerID") = myRow("AnswerID") Then         intCorrect = 1       Else         intCorrect = 0       End If       dsrcUserIae.UpdateParameters.Item("blnCorrect").DefaultValue = intCorrect       dsrcUserIae.UpdateParameters.Item("ID").DefaultValue = myRow("ID")       intUpdateResult = dsrcUserIae.Update()    Next
It seems like I should be able to do something like this (call update once), but I'm not sure how...
    dsrcUserIae.UpdateCommand = "UPDATE UserIAE SET blnCorrect = @blnCorrect WHERE (ID = @ID)"    dsrcUserIae.UpdateParameters.Add("blnCorrect", SqlDbType.Bit)    dsrcUserIae.UpdateParameters.Add("ID", SqlDbType.Int)
    Dim myDataView As DataView = CType(dsrcUserIae.Select(DataSourceSelectArguments.Empty), DataView)            For Each myRow As DataRowView In myDataView      If myRow("FkUsersAnswerID") = myRow("AnswerID") Then        myRow("blnCorrect") = 1      Else        myRow("blnCorrect") = False      End If    Next
      intUpdateResult = dsrcUserIae.Update() 'Want all changed myRow("blnCorrect") to be updated to datasource
Can anybody explain how to do the bulk update? I've seen some info about AcceptChanges and Merge, but I'm not sure if they apply here, or if they more for Transactions.

.NET Application Crashes On Opening SQL Compact Edition 3.5 Connection

Apr 15, 2008

Hi,

I'm writing an application with Visual Studio 2005 (Visual Basic .NET 2.0) which uses a SQL Compact Edition 3.5 database. On my HTC Touch with Windows Mobile 6.1 installed the application crashes, without any error message, if I try to open a connection. But...On the Windows Mobile 6 Pro emulator the connection opens normaly. The whole application runs perfect.
On both "devices" are the same dll's, of version 3.5.0.0.

I'm using the following code to open the connection:

Code Snippet
Private mySQLce_strConnection As String = "Data Source ='" & App_Path() & "MControl_SQLce.sdf" & "';"

Dim localConnection As New SqlCeConnection(mySQLce_strConnection)
localConnection.Open()

I tried so many things but without any success. But...I'm able to open the database (MControl_SQLce.sdf) with the Query Analyzer 3.5 on the Mobile. No problem.

This is my configuration:
Dev PC:
Windows XP SP2
Visual Studio 2005 Pro
.NET Framework 2.0 SP1
.NET Compact Framework 2.0
SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 (this version I reference to in my VS project)

Mobile Device (HTC Touch):
Windows Mobile 6.1
SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5

Any suggestions? I can't figure this out.

Login Failed For User '(null)' Error When Opening A SQL Connection

Jan 16, 2005

Hello everyone. I'm very new to asp.net. I've been coding in vb.net for a while now (getting my associates degree in desktop application programming) and my boss wants all of my new applications to be web based now. Well, i decided to take some initiative on this and begin a new project for my department. This is a very small project. So far, everything is coming along alright (i found an eBook that's helped me quite a bit). Everything was cool until yesterday when i tried to connect to our sql server database. I get an error message stating:

Because i'm testing this on my system as well as the remote system which hosts the application, i can see the error message on the remote system. Here is the error it's giving me:

SQL Server 2008 :: VB Script / Connection Strings And Passwords

Nov 2, 2015

We run some VB scripts to extract data from our SQL server. Within these scripts we reference a 'read only' SQL userid and it's password in the connection string.

What I want to do is remove the references to the 'read only' user and it's password from the scripts.

Could we add the user that is running the script as a SQL authenticated user (that has read only access) thereby not have to reference any passwords in our script ?

Add Data Connection To SQL Server Compact 3.5 From C# Express 2008

Apr 25, 2008

Well, what I want is to be able to do some tooling on a database (.sdf) on my WM5 device using C# Express 2008.

The problem is that when I select the "Tools/Connect to database" option, I choose my data source to be "Sql Server Compact 3.5" in the next screen, and when I press Continue, I am taken to the next screen, and here I cannot select the "ActiveSync connected device" in the "Data Source" section...it is disabled. The only option is selecting "My computer"...but I do not need that.

Is there something I need to install in order to activate that option?

Thanks,

Adrian

SQL Server 2008 :: Finding Connection String For ChefTec Software

Jun 16, 2015

This question is a long shot because it requires familiarity with a specific application called ChefTec which is a program for the restaurant industry, but I'm giving it a try because I have nowhere else to go to get the information I need. I am the developer for a competitor of this program, and some ChefTec users want to switch to our product and have their data, which is in SQL Server 2005 or 2008, converted.

My plan is to create a utility that the users could run to convert the data (written in Delphi, though that doesn't really matter). The problem is that I can't determine the connection string that ChefTec uses. It doesn't seem to be stored anywhere obvious (an ini file or the registry). When ChefTec is installed it either installs SQL Server or gives the option of using an existing instance, but there's no way for me to know how it was set up on any given machine. The program must be using some internal logic to create the connection string but that's not accessible to me.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio - Opening SQL-File From Explorer Does Not Connect Automaticly To Server/database

Apr 25, 2008

hello,

I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.

In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.

Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).

Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.

Any ideas?

thanks &
best regards,
Christian Kiedels

The problem arises when I want to open the same database with server explorer in VS2008 or with SQL server management studio.

Once I have used my application those two programs are not able any more to establish a connection with the database inviting me to close the program that is using the database. Even if I shut down my application and the full project those to program can not open it. I need to switch the computer off.

My application closes and dispose the connection as soon as the data have been retrieved.

The connection string that I am using is the following:

"Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataDataBaseName.mdf;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True"

The question is why am I seeing these problems?

What I am doing wrong

Am I opening a connection in a exclusive way without realizing?

Please help me, I am getting crazy!!!

Cheers

Problem Opening Sql Server Management Studio

Oct 16, 2007

Hi all,

can anyone advise on a problem i am having.
I have installed SQL Server Express but i am getting an error when i try to open up the management studio app.
The DB seems to be fine as i can connect to this from another machine.

The error i get says:
The proper type library could not be found in the system registry.
An attempt to repair this condition failed because you do not have the permissions to write to the system registry
or because the type library cound not be loaded.
This can be fixed by a system administrator running this program once, which will cause the proper file to be registered.
If problems still persist, then try repairing this application from the setup program.

I am running windows Vista x86.

I have tried opening it as administrator and still no could, i have uninstalled it and re-installed it about 10 times and am
getting pretty sick.

Has anyone seen this one before ????

Thanks in advance

Ian.

Can I Run SQL Server 2008 - Reporting Services CTP Until Microsoft Sells SQL 2008

Mar 31, 2008

There are a few features in the new SQL Server - Reporting Services that I really need in production. I have tested everything and it works great. I am running the CTP version since Microsoft is saying they aren't releasing the release version until 3rd quarter 2008.

Since Microsoft won't sell SQL 2008 until 3rd quarter, can I run the CTP in production until the release and then purchase SQL 2008?

SQL 2012 :: Opening 1433 Port For Server Cluster

Jun 21, 2015

SQL Server 2012 two node single instance cluster.

For DB access from application severs, do we need to open port (1433) for NODE IPs too ?

Or is it enough if we open the port 1433 only for VIRTUAL IP ?

SQL Server 2005 Opening Script File Problem

Aug 17, 2006

I just installed SQL Server 2005 on my PC (the developer's edition)yesterday. I have some scripts written by one of my coworkers tocreate some tables and stored procedures in a database that I'vealready created on my computer. Whenever I go to open the script file(whose icon shows that it's a SQL Server Query File and I've got thefile type set to open with SQLWB - SQL Server Management Studio), thefile opens in Notepad instead of appearing in the query window. Mycoworker told me that he just dragged and dropped the file in the querywindow and I tried that and got the same results (opening in Notepad).I can copy and paste the cotents of the file into the query window andrun it but of course this gets cumbersome for long scripts.Is there a setting or something that I need to change? I have SQLServer 2000 installed on my computer too.Thanks.Molly J. Fagan

SQL Server Mobile Encountered Problems When Opening The Database.

Dec 19, 2006

Hi,

I am writing an application for a device (HP IPAQ 6828) having Windows Mobile 5.0 using

-MS .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP-1
-SQL Mobile 2005.
-VS 2005 .NET

The application uses Merge Replication. The error occurs in the Synchronise() Method of the SqlCeReplication object.

"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database."

repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.ExistingDatabase)
repl.Synchronize()
I also checked the the connection string and it seems to be fine. Both my device and server can ping each other. Moreever I can also access the Web syncronization folder(on server) from the device.Is anyone having a resolution for this?

SQL Server Mobile Encountered Problems When Opening The Database.

Oct 30, 2007

Hello!
I'm trying to connect a sql ce database from a PPC with WM 2003 to a sql server 2005 database.

I discover the class SqlCeRemoteDataAccess, so i've been trying, unsucessfuly, to get things working.

I googled a lot, i read Ms Articles from MSDN, i read some posts here, but can't find solution for my problem. As you can see in my code, i already tryed different aprroaches, differente connections strings, with "provider", without "provider", with "sspi", without "sspi", you name it...

I configure the sql server agent like i read in msdn, and he's working well, i'm able to see the message. ("Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition Server Agent" when i open the url).

The sql database credentials are correct, i already check that.

I did everything i knew and i read, unfortunately i still can't manage to find a solution for an error message:

"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database." The native error is 28559

That's an Exception error message, that appears to me.

Can somebody help me?

Thank you!

Code Block
string connString = "Data Source=\My Documents\inv.sdf;Persist Security Info=False;";

string rdaOleDbConnectString = @"Data Source=server;Initial Catalog=mycatalog;Integrated Security=SSPI;User Id=myLogin;Password=myPasssword;";

public void ImportDatabase()
{

//rda.LocalConnectionString =@"Data Source=\My Documents\inv.sdf";
//rda.InternetUrl = "http://myserver/sync/sqlcesa30.dll";
//rda.InternetLogin = "myLogin";
//rda.InternetPassword = "myPassword";

SqlCeRemoteDataAccess rda = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess("http://server/sync/sqlcesa30.dll","myLogin","myPassword",connString);

try
{
// Try the Pull Operation

rda.Pull("localtable", "SELECT Cod, Name FROM People", rdaOleDbConnectString, RdaTrackOption.TrackingOnWithIndexes,"ErrorTable");

}
catch (SqlCeException exc)
{
// Handle errors here
//
MessageBox.Show(exc.Message + "-" + exc.NativeError);
}
finally
{
// Dispose of the RDA object
//
rda.Dispose();
}

Seeking Advice: SQL Server On Win 2008 Virtual Server Or Just Win 2008?

Apr 23, 2008

Hello - does anyone have experience w/SQL Server 2005 in a virtual environment? I'm considering this for a production environment but not sure if performance will suffer. Our databases will have a lot of writing but not too much reading. A SSRS solution is currently the only app. connecting to the SQL db. Max users to server at any given time will be very low (~10 users max). But the databases are pulling in data from other, outside multiple data sources on a daily basis.

Any pointers to documentation or any advice?

Thanks,

A Brown

Problem With Windows Server 2008 And SQL 2008 Express

Feb 25, 2008

Hello!
Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7.
I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error:
Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.
Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong?
Many thanks for help,
Jan
