SQL Server Mobile Deployment Problem

Jan 31, 2006

I'm building a app for a sprint pocket pc: ppc-6700. I've been able to
install the .NET cf 2.0 and run an app with little problem. I've
created a new app that uses the sqlerverce namespace and from what I've
read that will push the sql server mobile onto my device what i deploy
it. When I do that it gives me an error saying:

Installation error. Stop all applications and processes, maximize
available storage space, and run installation again. Support info 2.

When I hit ok it then finishes and then gives me an error in VS 2005 saying:

Error 1 Deployment and/or
registration failed with error: 0x8973190e. Error writing file
'%CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILES%ppctestppctest.exe'. Error 0x80070020: The
process cannot access the file because it is being used by another
process.

Device Connectivity Component

Not sure what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

SQL Server Mobile 2005 Merge Replication Problem On Windows Mobile 5.0

Aug 8, 2006

Dear ppl,

I am writing an application for a device (MDA Pro T-Mobile) having Windows Mobile 5.0 using

-MS .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP-1
-SQL Mobile 2005.
-VS 2005 .NET

The application uses Merge Replication. The error occurs in the Synchronise() Method of the SqlCeReplication object.

"SQL Server Mobile encountered problems when opening the database."

repl.AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase);
repl.Synchronize();

I don't understand why I am having this error. It does create the database on AddSubscription() method but it is failing opening the database on Synchronise(). I have also tried uninstalling and then reinstalling all the SQL Mobile components in the following order.

-sqlce30.wce5.armv4i.cab
-sqlce30.repl.wce5.armv4i.cab
-sqlce30.dev.ENU.wce5.armv4i.cab

However, when i run this application on a device(Dell X50 AXIM) with Pocket PC 2003, it runs fine creating the database and sysnchronising it.

The target platform for the project is Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK.

Does any one have any clue what could be the problem ?

Regards
Nabeel

Problem Using SQL Server Mobile 2005 With Windows Mobile 5 Application

Mar 23, 2006

Hello,

I am developping a non-managed C++ application for PocketPC using a SQL Server mobile database.

The application is compiled for PocketPC 2003 and uses SQL Server Mobile v2. I use Visual Studio 2005. But I need to compile the application for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. So I installed the WM5 SDK and had the WM5 into my project configuration.

The "ssceoledb.h" which I include incluses the "transact.h" file. But my problem is that this file is only provided with the PocketPC 2003 SDK and not in the WM5 SDK.
So I cannot use the WM5 configuration project with SQL Server. I also tried with the last SQL Server Mobile 2005 (ie v3.0) and the "ssceoledb30.h" also includes "transact.h".

Did I miss something to install ?
Do you know how I can resolve the problem ?

By advance, thank you for any answer.

Cannot Build SQL Server Mobile Solution For Windows Mobile 5

May 18, 2006

Using MS VS 2005 (incl SQL Server Mobile)
MS Pocket PC 2005 SDK

I am working on a project that builds for Pocket PC on both Mobile 2003 and Mobile 5. The project uses/will use SQL Server Mobile to store local data.

Project created from new with support for both platforms. I include required header files ssceerr30.h and ssceoledb30.h.

Project builds fine in WM2003 configuration, release and debug.

When I build for WM5 the compiler cannot find the header file transact.h. This is included from within ssceoledb30.h. Same as under WM2003.

In WM2003 configuration if I highlight the ssceoledb30.h include in Visual Studio and open the header, it takes me to <Visual Studio dir>SmartDevicesSDKSQL ServerMobilev3.0. I then locate the include for transact.h and do the same, which takes me <Visual Studio dir>SDKPocketPC2003include. The file exists.

If I repeat the above 'browsing' under the WM5 configuration, ssceoledb30.h takes me to a different copy in the WM5 SDK directory. There is no diff between the file here and the other copy used by WM2003. If I attempt to open transact.h - file does not exist.

Fix (which I'm not too sure about, i.e. is it OK?) - If I copy transact.h to the WM5 SDK directory, the project builds.

Why has transact.h disappeared from WM5 SDK?
I can find no ref's to this problem anywhere. Is my installation of the WM5 SDK corrupt? What else could I be missing?
Is there a sample for SQL Server mobile (like the NorthwindOLEDB sample) that comes configured to build for WM5?

SQL Server Mobile Tutorial And Getting Proper Mobile DB Installation

Apr 24, 2006

Hi folks, I'm new to Windows Mobile progamming, and new to this forum. Apologies in advance if I'm asking a boneheaded question, but I've done searches and can't find anything directly applicable to my problem.

I'm currently walking through the published MS tutorial in setting up an SQL Server 2005 Mobile application that subscribes to a publication on SQL Server 2005 to exchange information.

I've gotten almost all the way through... successfully set up the server components, creating the publication, etc. On the mobile side, I've been able run the cab files to install the SQL Mobile components and to create the project, add the reference to the dll, and instantiate an engine object. It compiles.

The step in the tutorial after that, though, where you specify the data source from the "data" menu, I've got a problem. When I try to use the "new connection" dialog from choosing the data connection, "MS SQL Server Mobile Edition" doesn't show up as a choice. I've tried choosing any of the other combinations, and in teh subsequent "Connection properties" section my database, SQLMobile (as in their sample) is available, but I get an error when I choose it and click OK. Clicking on "Test Connection" gives me a connection successful message.

My guess is that something about the Mobile server side components is not installed correctly on my development machine, but honestly I have no idea how to begin to fix it. Has anyone seen this problem before and know how to resolve it?

Your time and any knowledge sharing is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
-Dana

Creating A Mobile Application With SQL Server Mobile - FIX

Jul 21, 2006

This is a great tutorial and it's a shame one of the more important steps was missed.
In the €œCreate the snapshot user€? section you you find the steps to create the snapshot_agent account. Then in the €œCreate the snapshot folder€? section you find the share and folder permissions. However, at no point do the instructions advise you about adding the snapshot_agent to the SQL Server Logins. The result is that agent cannot perform the initial snapshot but you won't find this out until 50 steps later after Step 10 in the section  €œCreate a new subscription".

To get back on track, openthe Object Explorer's Security section and add the snapshot_agent to your logins. Then using the "User Mappings", set an appropriate level for the SQLMobile database role. Once completed you then need to run the agent.

Right-click the SQLMobile publication you created and select "View Snapshot Agent status". From that dialog you can select "Start" to run the agent. When it completes, you can return to the tutorial section "Create a new subscription" and continue with the tutorial.

Creating A Mobile Application With SQL Server Mobile

Nov 3, 2007

I am studying the tutorial in SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Books Online, and the topic is Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile. I have got a problem when creating a new subscription after created a new SQL Server Mobile database. And the problem is shown below:

New Subscription Wizard

- Beginning Synchronization (Success)

- Synchronizing Data (100%) (Error)
Messages
* Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the IIS user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect.
HRESULT 0x80004005 (29061)

* 無法完作業。

- Finalizing Synchronization (Stopped)

- Saving Subscription Properties (Stopped)

Before I have met this problem, I have finished all the task. And I can browse the localhost web site by using anonymous account even I use internet explorer or browse the directly in IIS.

Does anyone can solve it?? Thank you very much~~~

SQL Mobile 2005 Replication - SQL Mobile DLL Could Not Be Loaded - Error 28559

Jun 15, 2006

I am migrating a pocket PC application from VS 2003 to VS 2005 and a few weeks ago I hit the following problem when replicating

A SQL Mobile DLL could not be loaded. Reinstall SQL Mobile. [ DLL Name=sqlceca30.dll]

Scanning forums for help I saw that other people had had this problem and one

http://www.eggheadcafe.com/aspnet_answers/NETFrameworkCompactFramework/Feb2006/post25814466.asp

suggested that this problem could be circumvented by getting the replication object early and then continuously using the same object for subsequent replications.

I did this and it works a lot better now but ever so often I get another error which is

Native Error 28559 SQL Mobile encountered problems when opening the database

My only option at this point is to stop and start the application which cures the problem.

Error #25123 A Sql Mobile DLL Could Not Be Loaded. Reinstall SQL Mobile.

Sep 8, 2007

I receive error 25123 on my PPC (audiovox 6600) in a reproducable way (usually) with .net 2.0 application that is using SQL CE that I wrote:

Open the application
Connect to the database
Close the applicaton
Re-Open the application
Connect to the database <-- Error occurs

I will also receive the error if my application isn't the first application launched (or very close to the first to launch).

I don't believe it's a memory issue as according to the memory manager I have plenty of memory:

At boot up only start screen items loaded: 18.46 Used 49.89 Free
Launch Resco File Explorer to click EXE: 19.18 Used 49.18 Free
Launch my application (no DB connection): 23.64 Used 44.71 Free
Connect to the DB and do select count(*) from a table with 0 rows: 26.27 Used 42.08 Free
Close the application (this.Close() on the form: 19.38 Used 48.97 Free
Relaunch App and connect to DB receive error: around 38 Used around 30 free

I was unable to reproduce the issue right now while typing this message, the last sets of numbers are from memory, and include other applications that are currently running.

The only way I have to get SQL CE to load again is to soft reset the PPC. If the application is able to connect to SQL CE at least once it is fine up till I close it and re-open the application. So it either connects and runs great, or it can't connect at all.

Any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated.

SQL Server Deployment NIGHTMARE!

Dec 12, 2004

I'm hoping that someone here can help me.

I've written an app in C# with ASP.NET in VS. I can connect from my development computer (laptop - XP) to MY server (Win 2003) running MS SQL just fine.

However, when I try to deploy it on the server that it is supposed to run on, I can't connect. I can connect through the network to the SQL server, but I just can't do it with the app. This tells me that my connection string must be wrong... Of course, suggestions would be great...

The SQL server (7.0) is on Windows NT. The app is on a windows 2000 server, and yes, .NET Framework is installed. The Windows NT server is the web server, and the 2000 has been set up as www2. I can see the app from the net, but when I try to log in (requiring connection to the SQL server to verify user and pword), no go.

These are my connection strings, please correct me if I'm wrong...

(username and password are declared)

protected string myConnectionString = "Data Source=192.168.1.98;Initial Catalog=PIM;User ID=" + userName + ";Password=" + password + ";trusted_connection=false;";

protected string myAdminConnectionString = "Data Source=192.168.1.98;Initial Catalog=PIM;User ID=actualUsernameHere;Password=actualPasswordHere;trusted_connection=false;";

I've also tried them without the trusted connection, and with the server name... Same result (or lack thereof).

There's two connection strings, because one is used for the select statements for the public, and the other has all permissions for the back-end. I know it's redundant, but it's just one more safety feature I built in for the paranoid 'client'.

I have also tried to run the SQL server off of the 2000 box, but there's an error with the MMC... Does anyone know how to fix that, if it's a better solution???

Thanks very much for any and all help...

64-bit Server Deployment From 32-bit Workstations

Apr 28, 2006

Our workstations (XP SP2) and development servers (2003 R2) are all
32-bit. Our Staging and Production SQL
Servers are 64-bit (2003 R2 x64). We
have some VB SQLCLR assemblies we've developed.

My question is: Do we have to do anything special when deploying a CLR
Assembly to a 64-bit box when it has been compiled on a 32-bit box? Are there any advantages to setting the
Target CPU from "AnyCPU" to "x64"? Documentation and testing seems to indicate that the
assembly will run in 64-bit mode if compiled to "AnyCPU".

Will it run "better" in 64-bit mode
with the "x64" Target CPU type?

Thanks!

SQL Server Express Unsuitable For Deployment?

May 9, 2007

I am currently deploying my website.
I cannot establish a link with the SQL sever express database.  I followed the instructions of my web host (covered in this thread):
http://forums.asp.net/thread/1698700.aspx
and finally I received the currently unresolved error:
"An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file d:hostingmembersharpeeuksite1App_Dataaspnetdb.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I told my webhost I have followed their instructions and they came back with the answer:
"I would suggest you to upgrade the db's to use mssql 2005.
This is because, sql express is built for development environment. When you are in development environment, you are accessing everything with administrator permission. However, in live hosting environment (when there are differnet kind of permission restrictions), sql express often failed on attaching database. Any kind of change to the database would require re-attaching database. Personally, I do not feel sql express is ready for the live hosting environment. We can try to fix the attaching problem for you, however, even if we do it for free for you, you might encounter attaching db problem the next time you make any kind of update to the database schema. "
Is this correct? Is SQL server Express really unsuitable for deployment?
I am using webhost4life.com - Does someone know a webhost that can host SQL server Express reliably? (that would seem a lot cheaper than upgrading to mssql 2005)
Thanks for any advice

Very Basic MS SQL Server Deployment Question

Jan 29, 2008

My site is hosted by Fasthosts(.co.uk), which means I cannot put an MS SQL database on my site: they don't support that sort of thing. I have to pay for a seperate SQL database on a seperate server (also hosted by fasthosts).  They have given me an IP, a server name, a database name, login and password. They tell me that the server require SQL authentication. I have managed to contect to the database using MS VWD 2005 through the database explorer. I cannot however make changes to the database. I have therefore downloaded SQL Server Management Express. This is where I am stuck. I can't seem to get the software to find my database. One thing I have tried is i've set up a database on my system and then run replication. When I do this I get stuch at to the "enter the name of the computer running IIS" part of the wizard, I've tried entering in the IP of the server and the ip of my website.  I have also tried connecting to the database direct (not using replication) but this fails when it tries, despite all the combinations of IP, server name and database name I try!   Any ideas?  Regards, Howard

MSDE For Testing, SQL Server For Deployment...?

Jan 9, 2004

I'm going to be starting a web application this week. I have quite a bit of experience with Access Databases, and I've also used MySQL (back in my PHP days, thank GOD for ASP.NET).
The server we use to host our websites allows us to use SQL Server databases, so I want to move in that direction, but I'm not really sure where to start.
If I download MSDE, and start a database with it on a site I will be developing locally (on my XP box), will it be difficult for me to transfer the database (or layout of the database) to a production server running SQL Server. I know they're basically the same database, but I'm just afraid to start with an MSDE database and then get the site nearly complete, and then not know how to transfer it to a SQL Server DB.

I'm particularly interested to know if the majority of the database creation will be done through queries (similar to MySQL) because I figure if it is, then I can use the same queries to create the database on both the local and production server.

I just want to make sure that downloading MSDE will be a step in the right direction.

Perhaps links or tutorials or some information on things to watch out for as I take on this process would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

ClickOne Deployment And SQL Server Express

Apr 9, 2006

This is probably a dumb question. But if I embed a SQL Server Express database into my project and then attempt to deploy it via ClickOnce, will I be able to access that database using the SQL Server Management Studio Express CTP if it is installed on the same machine as the client that my app would be installed?

Embedded Deployment Sql Server Express

Dec 26, 2006

Hi,my problem is the following

I can not completely understand how to deploy sse with my application

To some degree I understand the explaning in  Mikes Documentation

Things I don't get:

1)Do I not check the prerequisite server express because when I did  and run the setup.exe that I build  the thing that happens is that the sql package gets unpacked over and over along with a little message that it's taking a little longer then expected. I gues this is the fallpit where the actual setup.exe for sse is nothing being done with hence the wrapper.

A quote from Mikes document "If the VS Bootstrapper isn't flexible enough for you then". Well, I don't know what I'am doing wrong but it doesn't work at all. I had no problem with the other prerequisites (Framework, installer)

Back to the first question: if so do I manually add the SQLEXP.EXE (downloaded from the internet) or is it the sqlexpr32.exe in the same folder as the setup.exe for the application?

2) How is the wrapper invoked?  I don't see that mentioned. I thought when you start the application itself, but that hardly seems logical.

Please anyone,  give me some clear directions or additional expanatory

Thanks,

Richard

Sql Server CE Cab File Deployment VS2005

Sep 13, 2007

Hello All,

I had VS2005 in my machine and was working with a mobile device using Sql Server CE. While compiling and deploying device application to my mobile device it used to deploy the Sql Server CE cab files also.
But now i have migrated to another machine ( Vista OS ) and installed VS2005 newly etc., Now when i try out the deployment of device application to my mobile device it is not deploying the Sql Server CE cab files but just copies the SqlServerCe dll file.
So when my application launches in the mobile device i get an error can't PInvoke sqlceme30.dll etc.,

I know that i can manually copy the cab files to my device and work. Its little tedious. Can anyone tell me how to achieve the behavior of my old VS2005 wherein it automatically deploys the SqlServer CE cab files? Is there a setting in VS2005 to enable this. I read in one of the posts that we can go modify the option Tools->Options->Smart device and enable an option to deploy the latest updates etc., But i couldn't find such an option in my VS2005.

P.S: I have installed my SqlServer Mobile edition 3.0 SDK to the default path under program files. Should i install it under VS2005 smartdevices SDK or something like that? I tried that also but still no success.

32-bit To 64 Bit Migration Of SQL Server 2005 (Deployment)

Jul 31, 2006

Hi

Do we need to perform any special checks when we deploy SQL Server application developed using 32 bit SQL 2005 Edition in 64 bit SQL 2005 Edition?

To my understanding, 64 bit SQL Server 2005 provides better memory management and provides high performance when compared to 32 bit and it should not be an issue in deploying the application developed in 32 bit SQL Server 2005 in 64 bit environment.

Any help/hints on deploying in 64 bit SQL Server (for a product[SPs, TSQL Stmts] developed using 32 bit SQL Server) is appreciated.

Thanks
Kart

Creating SQL Server Stored Procedures In Deployment

Sep 20, 2007

Hey guys,I'm having a problem. I've been given a task to complete. I was given a database, and asked to wrap a website around it with certain functionality. I did this, and added seven stored procedures in the proccess. Everything works, Business Logic Layer, Data Access Layer, error validation, even screwed around with SQL-injection protection. Lovely, yes? However, when my little website gets tested, it's going to be plugged into a fresh database - the exact same database I was given, only with different data in the tables. My stored procedures won't be in that database. I can detect if my stored procedure doesn't exist easily enough by catching the error at runtime and checking the code. I would like to create the stored procedure inside that catch block. I just don't know how.The easy answer is just to use embedded SQL in my application instead of stored procedures. This isn't a commercial application, it's just a task I've been given to test my abilities. But embedded SQL is icky. I'd rather do it properly.

Problem With SQL Server Express 2005 Deployment

Apr 30, 2008

Hi-
I am trying to use the same SQL Server 2005 express DB with two different project.  I am using the
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename
syntax in the connection string.  The first project can attach and connect just fine.  The second project is a windows service that uses the same connection string.  The windows service cannot connect to the DB though.  It looks like it is trying to attach the DB again even though it is already attached.  Shouldn't it only try to attach it if it isn't already attached?  Here is the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: CREATE DATABASE permission denied in database 'master'.Cannot attach the file 'C:path' as database 'dbname'.
