I Changed My Windows Password And Now I Cannot Connect To SQL Server On My Development Machine

Jun 11, 2007

I changed the login password on my computer today, and now I cannot connect to the SQL Server instance I have on that same machine. I am using Windows Authentication. I would think that, if I can log on to my computer, I would be able to connect to the database, since I have been "authenticated" by windows but, that does not appear to be the case. Can anyone offer any advice? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Slow DB Response After Server Reboots

Oct 31, 2007

I am working with a client that after every reboot of there SQL 2000 DB server, they experience slow response time for a couple of hours. The server has 12 GB RAM and a Dual 3.8 processor. It is believed that the slow response is due to as queries run after the reboot, they are re-building information in memory and after the memory is built up, it goes back to the normal performance utilizing the memory for speed. Is this an accurate assumption or is there something else to be looking at after the server is rebooted?

Thanks,
JB

Jobs Lose Ownership/permissions When Server Reboots

Nov 19, 2006

This is sort of a DR issue since it involves reboots and power failures.

We have MSSQL 2005 SP1 and unpatched systems, but in particular we have this problem still with the SP1 server (in addition to the unpatched systems). Running on Win 2k3.

It seems that upon reboot, our stored SSIS jobs lose their pemissions and/or ownership for execution. It doesn't happen at every reboot or power failure, but seemingly more than half the time.

Here is the error reported:
The job failed. The owner () of job Job_1 does not have server access.

But checking the properties of the job and it shows an valid owner in the Owner field. I believe we are using Active Directory for authentication and the user listed is valid in that respect.

We have "fixed" this problem before by removing the job completely and re-installing it, with the same owner. No issues until the next system outage.

Has anyone else seen this before? Is there a fix or is this some kind of bug?

Vista Business ODBC/DSN To Remote Windows 2000 Server / SQL 2000

Oct 8, 2007

Hi,
Just upgraded some development desktops to Vista Business. However we need
to still connect to some older remote windows 2000/SQL 2000 servers.

Trying to setup an ODBC system DSN on our Vista Business local desktop we get the
following errors -

-START ERROR WINDOW-
Connection Failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 772
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen
(SECDoClientHandshake()0.
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 18
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]SSL Security Error
-END ERROR WINDOW-

Any help greatly appreciated as this is stopping us from making
database/table connections etc. We've checked the firewall setup and all is well there.

PS - we can still connect fine using XP or windows 2000 desktops and their
local DSNs.

Windows 2000 Sp4 && SQL Server 2000 Causes Java Core Dump

Sep 7, 2007

I've just started getting this EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) on machines using Windows 2000 sp4 connecting to SQLServer. This is crashing JVMs (multiple Sun versions and BEA also) in the Java VM frame (outside our code). This has just started recently - perhaps with the last set of patches? Has anyone else seen this or know what I could do to get more information? Could this be related to updates to named pipes?

Thanks!

MSDE && SQL Server 2000 On The Same Machine !

Aug 13, 2004

Hi all,

I started learning ASP .Net using the "Teach yourself ASP.Net in 24 hours". In that book, the applications use MSDE as the database tool.

Now i have started developing some big applications and have installled MS SQL Server 2000 on my machine.

I still have databases on the MSDE.

My question is 'How do i move the old databases from MSDE to SQL Server 2000' ?

Can i uninstall MSDE safely since i already installed SQL Server 2000 ?

Please let me know.

Thank You

RS On Sql Server 2000 And 2005 On Same Machine

Oct 18, 2006

Hi Samuel,

I'd like to draw on your expertise on this topic. I've been browsing at many blogs/forums about installing SQL Server 2000 and 2005 on the same machine.

What I'd like to know is how does that work with Reporting Services? Your machine's IIS will need to work with Reporting Services 2000 and Reporting Services 2005. The RS 2005 requires .NET Framework 2.0 and RS 2000 requires .NET Framework 1.1. IIS can only support 1 version of the .NET Framework at a time.

Thanks kindly.

Sql Server 2000 And 2005 On Same Machine

Oct 5, 2006

I've got to install sql server 2000 and 2005 on our test computer (sql server 2000 is already installed). I've heard from the grapevine that trying to install 2005 with 2000 already installed can cause problems, and its difficult for sql 2000 and 2005 to co-exist on the same machine.

what are these problems and how can I avoid them?

Thanks in advance.

Access 2000 On Windows 2000 Can't Interact With SQL Server 7.0

Mar 13, 2001

We have a SQL Server 7.0 system in NT 4.0 environment. We upgraded our users to Access 2000 and started to work with this. Now we installed a new
server which is Windows 2000 based and the domain is different from
the SQL servers domain. We then installed Access 2000 on Windows 2000
to use with terminal server. But I noticed that there was a problem
with the program. I then looked at the program which was written on Access 2000 and saw that the tables and views can't be seen. The program runs but
I can't see the views and tables. Another thing is access disconects from SQL Server when I want to see the tables. So what can be the problem.

In one part there is an Access 2000 on Windows 2000 server. On the other part SQL Server 7.0 on Windows NT 4.0. And Access can't see the tables in SQL server.

Is there a X64 version of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components from Feature pack for SQL Server 2005?

I have installed an X86 version on the AMD64 machine. But when I open a sql 2000 dts package, there is always a warning window.

The Message is as follows:

SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages. Install the special Web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" to use this feature. (Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI)

at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.ObjectExplorerUI.LegacyActionBase.CreateLegacyDesigner()
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.ObjectExplorerUI.OpenLegacyPackageAction.Act(INodeInformation nodeInfo)
at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.ObjectExplorerUI.DtsServerMenuItem.Invoke(INodeInformation parent, String mode, String assembly, String type)

There are two same assemblys called 'Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI' in the GAC, and one is GAC cache type, the other is zap cache type.

Connecting To An External SQL 2000 Server From A Vista Machine With SQL 2005 Installed

Nov 26, 2006

hi there - I'm praying someone here can shed some light on this - after many google and web searches, I have found users with similar issues, but have yet to find a solution.
Problem: I have recently upgraded my desktop from Windows XP to Windows Vista Ultimate (clean install) and have migrated my local machine to SQL Server 2005. However I have a number of .Net projects that access databased on another server running SQL Server 2000 - prior to my upgrade to Vista, I was running SQL Server 2000 on my desktop as well. During the install, everything seemed to go well, and I also installed the SQL Server 2005 Service pack as instructed via the MSDN site.  However, when attempting to test my .net projects on my desktop pc (ie visit http://localhost), I encounter the error:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
note that the server I am attempting to connect TO is the old SQL 2000 server - NOT 2005.  I specify my connection info in the web.config - and it points to an external ip address on the web.
Can anyone shed some light on this?  I've tried enabling remote access on my local SQL 2005 install, but I'm fairly sure thats for servers that want to connect to my desktop, rather than my desktop attempting to connect to external servers. Any help is greatly appreciated - I'm pulling my hair out over trying to figure this out! :)
To summarize my setup (if it helps)
Desktop PC:Windows Vista (Ultimate)SQL Server 2005Visual Studio 2005II 7.0.Net 2.0 (ASP.Net Application)
External Server (co-located at a datacenter)Windows Server 2003SQL Server 2000IIS 6.0.Net 2.0 (ASP.Net Application)

 Much appreciated,
Ted
