In MSDN, it says that it is recommended to use windows authentication to connect to SQL Server rather than use mixed authentication.
I create user deltasqluser on windows OS, and I specify in my webform ASP.NET script below :
protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.Label Label1; private string _connString = @"data source=deltasql2000;initial catalog=northwind;integrated security=false;user id=deltasqluser"; /* comment : I login to my windows as deltakoronx, and I want to every user (including me), connected to sql server through IIS, will be identified as deltasqluser not as user's login (impersonate) */ private void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs e) { SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(_connString); SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(); cmd.Connection = conn; cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.CommandText = "select suser_sname()";
at web.config, I add : <identity impersonate="false" userName="deltasqluser" password="" />
at IIS webApplication1's properties, tab "Directory Security", at "Authentication and access control" section, I checked "enable anonymous access" with user : DELTAIUSR_DELTA and checked "Integrated Windows Authentication",
at query analyzer, I login as "sa" and execute script below : exec sp_grantdbaccess 'deltasqluser','northwind'
when I run the ASP.NET script, error at conn.Open(); with error message : Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.
What should I do so that IIS login to SQL Server as user deltasqluser not as "NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE" ?
When I start the server agent - it opens up a black (command prompt type) window that seems to serve no purpose - that I know of yet. What is this and can I stop it opening up all the time?
I have an desktop app that uses a system DSN to access SQL Server 7. I backed up a database from another machine and restored it on my machine. Now when my app starts, it prompts for login/pw for SQL Server. I have checked my ODBC connection, and the login and pw are correct. I have also used Enterprise Mgr to check it in SQL Server. Does anyone have any thoughts on why it is now popping up? Drop me a line at bcarlson@documentsolutions.com, and I can answer any questions. I was wondering if any info about the prev machine exists for the database (on the restore)?

Probably simple but I cannot find the property setting that allows me to change the default date format of the column "Created" in the Summary window. Default it is 2007-11-15. As some tables are changed more than one time in a day, I would like to see also the time as was the standard in SQL SERVER 2000. This is a minor problem but an irritating one!
I installed the SQL Server 2005 standard edition after uninstalling the Express edition.
When i look in the 'About' screen in the 'SQL Server Managment studio', i don't see indication that the SQL Server 2005 i currently work with is the Standard Edition. There are only categories and their numbers of versions.
How do i know that the Edition i work on ,now , is the Standard edition ?
Our Dev team created a web application. Which user we need to add in the database and what permission we need to assign him. So web application can do read, write and modify in the database tables.
Database name = ACCT IIS server name = MASS (running on different machine win 2003)
What role following accounts play in the connection of iis to database server login.
1: ASP.NET 2: MASSii$1 & massiis1

Hi I have problem in configuring my web project on Window server 2000. I have created the web application using Visual Studio 2005 tools. I have configured Window server 2000 with the .Net Framework Version 2.0. I can access the page which doesn't have database access. The connection string in the web config file is giving me the problem that connection string can't be found. Does any one have any idea? My database connection string looks like this. <connectionStrings> <add name="etzAusBldConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=CASCADE;Initial Catalog=etzAusBldBaseData1;User ID=sa1;Password=****" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> </connectionStrings> Moe

I'm trying to write a query with named parameters/variables in the Management Studio - New Query pane. Where should I post a question about how to create parameters/variables?
I have a question regarding windowing functions. I have a sales order table with the columns "orderid", "customerid", "order_date" and "amount". I use the following query to get the amount of every customer as a additional column:
Select customerid, orderid, order_date, amount, SUM(amount) OVER (PARTITION BY customerid) FROM sales_orders
My question is if there is a good way to add another column, which includes the SUM(amount) of the customerid, where the order_date > 2012-01-15 , something like this:
Select customerid, orderid, order_date, amount, SUM(amount) OVER (PARTITION BY customerid), SUM(amount) OVER (PARTITION BY customerid WHERE order_date > 2012-01-15) FROM sales_orders
I know, this is not a valid method, so do you know a way to achieve this? Can I maybe use CROSS APPLY or something like this? I know that I could use a subquery to get this, but is there maybe a way / a better way via window functions?
I have installed 2 node windows Fail-over clusters successfully. But QUARUM Configuration is not appearing in Failover cluster manager instead "Witness: Disk (Disk Cluster 4)". I have also configured quarum configuration from Quarum "Configure Cluster QUARUM Settings". I have attached the snapshots of windows cluster configuration. Is it the issue or not. I have not got any warning and error during cluster validation while installing Windows failover cluster. I am assuming it is okay and i can move ahead to installation of SQL Failover cluster setup.
Products used for installation in Virtual Machine: Windows Server 2012 R2 SQL Server 2012 R2 Note: Service Pack is not installed.
I was told that SQL2000 SP4 needs to install prior to installing SP2 for windows 2003 server. Is that true? What issues I will encounter if the installation is done the other way around? Thanks for any insights
I am new to SQL Server and I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express or Stnadard Edition on a computer runing XP pro on a XP's workgroup network using a router. Can I access the the database from another computer running XP pro on the same network? If I can, what setting do I need when installing SQL 2005 in order to do this?
I have a windows 8 pc that I just got and installed sqlexpress 2014. My buddy haw windows 7 and installed sqlexpress on his pc. We create a db on his pc, did a backup, copied the backup to my pc. In ssms I right click on "database" > restore database. click device and the button to find my file. I navigate to the folder where the file shows in file explorer but the .bak file does not show in ssms to restore from. This is probably a windows thing but I have don't know what to look at.
I'm having some performance issues with a TSQL query. It's a complex statement but the main issue is the correlated query.
How can I convert this
SELECT TOP 5 (SELECT SUM(lt2.col3) FROM dbo.MyTable2 lt2 WHERElt2.col1 = lt.col1 AND lt2.col2 = lt.col2 AND lt2.id = lt.id ) AS Result FROM dbo.MyTable1 t1 ... to an inner join or a sql2012 window function?
By the way, I just added the TOP 5 myself while testing. It's not in the main query.
Hotkey combination to be able to change the server connection from Server A to Server B in a query window in SQL Management Studio? This is so you do not have to Right click, chose "Connection" and then chose "Change Connection".
Using SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services and want to open new IE window to link to a site. We are using IE 6.0.
I am using the following Navigation "Jump to URL" in report: javascript:void(window.open('http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx'))
This works as expected if I am not using the DNS alias to reference Reporting Services. But if I use the DNS alias when referencing Reporting Services, then when I click the link in the report I get the "Cannot find server or DNS Error" in the IE window that opens. Everything else works correctly in the reports when I use the DNS alias.
We have restored a database on new server without keeping replication settings. Now while creating the publication no tables are shown in new publication wizard window. In fact we have hundred of tables in database and included in replication on source server from where backup was taken.
What may be the reason that tables are not appearing?
We have a massive database with an almost massive amount of traffic to and from it.
I've been requested to implement a sliding window partitioning with 2 partitions an active and passive 1,I managed to test this on a very small testbed last month.
I currently moved 97k table on to the partition function leaving me another 26 k to go
I'm using the following stored procedure to implement the sliding window
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[ManageFactSlidingWindow](@pFunction nvarchar(max),@pSchema nvarchar(max),@FG nvarchar(max),@moveDays int) /***************************************************************************** PROCEDURE NAME: [ManageFactSlidingWindow] AUTHOR: Arshad Ali CREATED: 02/24/2013 DESCRIPTION: This stored procedure manages sliding window for the partitioned table
VERSION HISTORY: DATE EMAIL Company DESCRIPTION
[Code] .....
When I try to move the partition even a single day I get loads of locks.
We are setting up a job for the SQL Server Agent via SSMS. The Job Step Type is SSIS.
In the Job Step Properties window, on the Set values tab, you can enter Values to override your package variables - normally all well and good.
However in this particular case, the variable Value contains semicolons ( - it is a Connection String for an ODBC driver. Eg: Driver={Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)};system=MYSERVER;...
The behaviour for this Value is weird:
If the Value is not surrounded with double quotes ("), the job fails with "The command line parameters are invalid." If the Value is surrounded with double quotes ("), the job will run as intended. The catch is: that entry and any subsequent "Set Values" entries disappear next time the Job Step Properties window is opened.
This looks like a bug with the parsing of those strings by the Job Step Properties window?
