Need Some Help With Check Contraint In SQL2005

Aug 29, 2006

Hi,

I have this table which contains 2 datetime fields called Startdate & enddate

Startdate cannot contain NULL
Enddate can because it can be a single day event or a period.

If enddate is not null it must be later than startdate
i created this checkconstraint

enddate > startdate

But i also fires when enddate = NULL

Someone knows howto do this?

Cheers Wim

Sql Setup Install Failure I

Hi there,

I am trying to analyze log files from a failed install of Sql Server Dev. Ed. on 4/1/08. I have a Windows Installer Verbose Log Anlyzer for that.

The core log says in part:

SQl 2005 Setup Failure For Cluster

Oct 19, 2006

Installing SQl2005 into on Win2003 2 node cluster, at the very end of the
setup receive a message 'Remote Setup failed'. Referred to some sql logs
and found this;
Error: Action "LaunchLocalBootstrapAction" threw an exception during
execution. Error information reported during run:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup Bootstrapsetup.exe"
finished and returned: 1603
Aborting queue processing as nested installer has completed
Message pump returning: 1603

I've seen some similar errors on the web and suggestions about the Task
Scheduler being started on both nodes, but I ensured these were both started
before the install. SQL2005 does seem to be ok on the node1 where the
install was made, but fails when trying to failover to node 2.

Any help would be much appreciated here.

Thanks
Darren

Access 2003 Projects Don't Work With SQL2005

Apr 25, 2008

Hi All,

Just installed a new version of SQL2005 on a brand new Application Server.

However, when i fired up Access 2003, it gives me some chaos about how Access isn't compatible with SQL2005. Fantastic lack of backward compatibility straight out the box.

Ok, so I do as it says and download all the updates.

Try again... Still won't allow me.

Wen't to Control Panel > Data Sources and confirmed the Native Client is in there. Added a System DSN for the new Server.

Tried Access again, still not working?? What the...

Why can't I create a new project in Access 2003, and edit it from my desktop instead of sitting on the server for every table modification? I hate designing tables on the SQL studio.

Any clues or help would be great. I'm just disappointed at the moment, on how this is holding up my database projects.

Thanks,

Chris.

How Do You Check For The Success Or Failure Of A Procedure Run In SQL

I've heard of the TRY CATCH structure, but I new and have yet to use it. How many different ways can success or failure be handled in code?

Filtering Duplicates In SQL2005 Doesn't Work Anymore

Aug 18, 2006

Hi,

Made the jump from SQL2000 to 2005 - i'm not a DBA but like to play around with such nice tools- and tried to convert my DTS package into a 2005 one.

I've got a csv file containing some log in information.

As users log in everyday, this keeps getting added to the file.

I'm only interested in the latest appearance of a certain machine on the network so i filter by creating an unique Index

the CSV file get's imported into a temporary table first and then i executed the following on SQL2000

CREATE TABLE [patchings].[dbo].[allfilter] (

[username] varchar (20) NULL,

[machine] varchar (20) NULL,

[os] varchar (20) NULL,

[sp] varchar (20) NULL,

[date] smalldatetime NULL,

[time] varchar(10) NULL,

[logonserver] varchar (20) NULL,

[country] varchar (20) NULL,

[domain] varchar (20) NULL,

varchar (20) NULL,

[brand] varchar (20) NULL,

[model] varchar (20) NULL,

[speed] int NULL

)

CREATE unique INDEX [my filter] ON [dbo].[allfilter]([machine], [os]) with ignore_dup_key ON [PRIMARY]

go

insert into "Allfilter" select * from temptable order by date desc

This worked perfectly in SQL2000.

when i try to do the same in SQL2005, it doens't start inserting the most recent machines (filtered on the date) but machines at random

selecting the select * from temptable order by date desc shows me the correct order for the machines by date so i'ld presume that it adds the most recent combination of machine and operating system from "today" and ignores the older appearances.

if the temptable contained for instance..

MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/13 10:02:34 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593
MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/15 9:59:59 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593
MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/16 12:33:09 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593
MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/19 10:48:56 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593
MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/20 11:03:49 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593

under SQL2000 i'ld see one record in the final "allfilter" table

MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/20 11:03:49 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593

under SQL2005 i don't see the last one though coding is the same

MY-MACHINE MY_USER Windows XP Service Pack 2 2006/06/16 12:33:09 Mydomaincontroller BE MY_DOMAIN my_ip IBM type 2593

I guess i'm missing something here but what?

after this i get the error.

SQL2005 Cluster Setup Failed Due To Task Scheduler And Native Client

Nov 28, 2006

Hi all,
I am trying to setup the cluster SQL server, say ServerA and ServerB. While I start the setup in ServerA, it prompts,
'Setup failed to start on the remote machine. Check the Task scheduler event
log on the remote machine.'

But I found that there is no remote logon to both nodes and the service task scheduler is running in both node.

On the other hand, I try to install the SQL via ServerB, it prompts for valid Native client package 'sqlncli.msi' and caused the setup failed finally. However, the Native client was setup successfully as a prerequisite once starting the setup.

Any advise? Thanks in advance!!

SQLX05 SP1 Upgrade To SP2 Acted Like A Failure, But Seems To Work?

Dec 20, 2007

Hi guys, got an interesting scenario: I have a new Dell server with an "empty" Windows Server 2003 SE SP2 installation (all latest updates), joined to a 2003-native domain, ~60 GB/free space, 2 GB ram, P4, etc etc. I loaded up BackupExec 11d 7170, which installs SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP1.

Before I even used Backup Exec, I knew I wanted to get SQLX05 SP2 installed. First, I followed the preliminary steps listed in the SQL Server 2005 Express Edtion SP2 readme file (backup master/model/msde and bedb/be_dlo databases, verify DB space, verify enabled services/accounts, stop dependant services).

By now it was after-hours and I was away from the office, so I logged into the server with my 2k3 Enterprise Admin account via Remote Desktop. I changed the server from Windows Update to Microsoft Update, and it found/downloaded/installed SQLX05 SP2 for me.

But about 7 minutes later, Microsoft Update told me it failed with code 0x3B30- and the Help & Support had no help for that code.

I started to look around the 'net for the error- I found that some people went into Add/Remove programs, clicked Change on SQLX05, selected the instance, and wound up clicking on "complete the suspended install"- unfortunately, it wanted the source for sqlrun_sql.msi, which I didn't have anywhere, so I clicked Cancel.

I looked at the server, and finally found the summary.txt file buried in C:program filesmicrosoft sql server90setup bootstraploghotfix. It showed passing the prereq check, product detection (2047/express), no disqual'd prods, no locked files, and then had this section:

Now here's the strange part- I saw something on the 'net that suggested rebooting and applying it again. So I rebooted the server, went to Microsoft Update- and it didn't show that I needed the SQLX05 SP2 update. I checked the Application event log, and it showed that during the SQLX05 startup SQLX05 reported version number 9.00.3042.00! I ran a TSQL command (with sqlcmd) and systemproperty('productlevel') came back as SP2.

I finished my TSQL command, and got a popup from Microsoft Error reporting saying some errors happened recently for hotfix.exe. I clicked showdetails, and the p-vals with information were P2=0x3b30, P4=0x3b30, P5=copyengine.cpp@1653 , P7=sql9express. So I sent the report up.

Out of curiousity, I went back to Add/Remove programs, clicked on SQLX05 and "change", selected the instance, next, next, and wound up at the SQL Server Install Wizard. It STILL had a box for me to click on saying "Complete the Suspended Installation"- so I cancelled it.

But everything "looks" fine! Is it? Can I trust it?? Could Sql Server Express have automatically ran the failed sql files after the reboot?

Thanks!

Maintenance Plan Fails Due To Login Failure

Nov 14, 2007

W2k3SP2 running SQL2k5SP2 in mixed mode. Trying to run a daily maintenance plan with a domain admin service account [domainsqlsvc]. This account is having login failure when I try to run the maintenance job. Would like to figure out why this account cannot authenticate with SQL. I believe I have local login denied, but login as a svc and login as a batch job are both enabled in Domain Policy.

What am I missing?

TIA for your help!

SQL2005 SP2 IA64 Fails Installing Database And Backward Compatibility Components.

Aug 30, 2007

Hi, pls can anyone help me out with this? I'm installing SQL2005 SP2 over an Itanium machine with W2003 SP2 but it keeps on failing on those features. Client components got installed with no problems. I've installed SQL2005-SP2 over x86 and x64 (not Itanium) machines many times before successfuly. I've been investigating this issue for several days with no luck so I'm a bit clueless at the moment. As I'm using Administrator account I think it is not file permission related.
Summary says "Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file".

let me know if further info is nedeed.

Many thanks.

XML Task In For Loop Container Always Fails After Initial Failure

Jun 4, 2007

Hi,

I am using an XML task for validating the XML data against the XML Schema. Let me describe the scenario, I am working on.

I have XML Files with different schema. I have different XSD files for each XML file type. I have used a for loop container which has a script task and an XML task. Script task gets the XML File and XSD file contents into variables which are, in turn, used by XML Task for validation.

XML task is configured in the option "Validate". I have provided the XML Data in variable and XSD file content in other variable. XML Task stored the result in another variable. FailOnValidationFail property set to false.

Every thing works fine until result of XML Task is false. If XML Task fails for one of the files, it fails for each subsequent files. If first file does not compile to schema and other files do, then XML task fails all the files because first file failed.

Is this a problem with XML Task or I have missed any property. Please, guide me through.

XML Task Inside Foreach Container, Fails All Iterations After First Failure

Dec 7, 2006

I am looping through xml files and validating them with the XML Task. On sucess I want to perform task 2, on failure I want to perform task 3. When one file fails to validate all subsequent tasks fail.

I have also tried putting the result in a variable instead of using the success constraint. I get the same result, the variable keeps the failed value after the first file fails. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Check Constraint Does Not Work (compare With Null)

Mar 20, 2006

Hi!I have a table with a check constraint. But unfortunately it does notwork like I wanted.CREATE TABLE MAP([R_ID] [T_D_ID] NOT NULL,[R_ID1] [T_D_ID] NULL,CONSTRAINT CHECK_ID1 CHECK (R_ID1 = R_ID OR R_ID1 = NULL),CONSTRAINT [PK_MAP] PRIMARY KEY ([R_ID]))R_ID1 should always have the value of R_ID or NullThe following statements should cause errors:insert into map (R_ID, R_ID1)values(1,2);update map set R_ID1=3 where R_ID=1;But there occur no errors. Does anyone have an idea? It is an SQL Server2000.TIASusanne

SQL Cluster Setup Fails After Installing Service Pack 2

May 28, 2000

We have successfully been using MSCS with MSSQL7 (SP1) running under NT4 EE
(SP6a), installed in an active/active configuration using, two DELL
PowerEdge 6350 machines. Recently I installed MSSQL7 (SP2), I followed the
instructions that came with SP2, and unclustered the SQL nodes using the
Failover Cluster Wizard, and installed SP2, this was uneventful, and
appeared to install correctly. Next I tried to recluster the SQL nodes
using the Failover Cluster Wizard as directed. This failed with: "Could not
run setup on remote machine. SQL Cluster Setup failed." So I began the
usual research using the usual resources, and have found articles that
discusses this error, and the things to look for when it happens. I have
exhausted all suggestions without success. I appear to have everything
correctly configured. I have enabled Cluster Logging (level 3), following
are the two things I have found that indicate something is wrong:

1. In the SQL Error Log the following gets logged when I run the wizard:
"Attempting to initialize Distributed Transaction Coordinator."
"Failed to obtain TransactionDispenserInterface:
XACT_E_TMNOTAVAILABLE"

2. In the Cluster Log I see the following message repeatedly:
"[ClRtlCopySecurityDescriptor] MakeSelfRelativeSD failed,
0x00000551"

3. In the sqlclstr.log I see the following, without an indication of
which file is missing:
"[reghelp.h:235] : 2 (0x2): The system cannot find the file
specified."
"[clushelp.cpp:166] : 259 (0x103): No more data is available."
"[validate.cpp:147] DeleteTestGroup:OpenClusterResource: 5007
(0x138f): The cluster resource could not be found."
"~~~ XXX InstallRemote failed"

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this problem?
Many thanks in advance.
