SQL2K FOR XML Maximum Return Length?

Feb 8, 2008

Does anybody happen to know the maximum number of characters that can be returned by FOR XML?

Tell me it is not 8000.

I did check BOL, and I skimmed some msdn articles.

Maximum Length Of Return In Query Analyzer

Apr 13, 2006

I am executing a SELECT statement that has about 500 characters of literal characters concatenated with the contents of a field from a table. I am then storing the result to be run as dynamic SQL. I am finding that when run this as select statement in query analyzer, the last part of the literal gets truncated. When I run it as a cursor and store it in a varchar(1000) variable and print the variable everything works fine. In addition when I put the select statement in a stored procedure and return this to a ADO recordset, the resultset is fine as well. But running the stored procedure in query analyzer truncates the results as well. The issue seems to be getting the results of the SELECT in query analyzer. Even running the stored procedure in the SQL area of Enterprise Manager returns a proper result. Has anyone heard of a maximum return from a select in query analyzer?

Maximum Number Of SQL2K Instances

Mar 12, 2001

Hi,

I am reading SQL Server 2000 Black book (Coriolis publisher) and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Optimization guide (Jenney Lynne Fields PH publisher).

In the Black book page 56, it says :"..up to a total of 16 instances.
In the optimization guide page 144, it says :"There is no theoretical limit to the number of instances of SQL server you can run simultaneously..."

Who the hell is right??????

Exeption MSDE Maximum Length Is 128

Aug 18, 2004

I am using a SProc to update some fields in a database. The field I am updating is a comment field. When I pass the parameter by doing a Command.ExecuteNonQuery I get an exception that says my parameter is greater than 128. The field it is updating is a nvarchar with a length of 500. I found an article on Microsoft's website that is alluding to the fact that a "name" cannot be greater than 128. How else can I do an update of this size? I would like to use a SProc. I am still learning SQL 2000 and MSDE so this may be an easy fix. Here is the exception I am getting: "The identifier that starts with 'My data thats needs to be updated to the database' is too long. Maximum length is 128." -VBJB

Maximum Length Of System_user Function

Jan 25, 2008

I know that system_user can return different types of usernames based on the authentication method used to connect to the database. I am trying to nail down a standard field width for audit columns that store the return value from system_user but I can't find definitive information about the return type of the function. Does anyone know the maximum length of the return value from the system_user function and if its an nvarchar, varchar, nchar, etc.?

Thanks.

Integration Services Data Types Maximum Length

Apr 17, 2007

Hi,

Is there a way in-code to determine the maximum length of a Integration Services Data Type.

I need to determine based on the data type what the maximum length of a column is IN-CODE.

However, the column.Length property only gives me a length for DT_WSTR and DT_STR values. This is the only property that would seem to remotely give me the right answer.

I need to know the maximum lengths in columns for DT_BOOL, DT_CY, DT_I2, DT_I4, DT_I8, DT_NUMERIC, and DT_UI1. I can always hard-code these values into my program, but that makes no sense. There has to be some sort of way to determine what the maximum possible length of these values are.

For numeric values I could use the column.Precision value but that still leaves with with a lot of data types without a maximum length.

Transact SQL :: Error - Maximum Row Size Exceeds Allowed Maximum Of 8060 Bytes

Sep 12, 2015

I have some code I build 2 weeks ago which I’ve been running daily but it’s suddenly stopped working with the following error.

“The table "tbl_Intraday_Tmp" has been created, but its maximum row size exceeds the allowed maximum of 8060 bytes. INSERT or UPDATE to this table will fail if the resulting row exceeds the size limit” When I google this there seems to be a related to tables with vast numbers of columns.

My table tbl_Intraday_tmp is relatively small. It has 7 columns. 1 of varchar(5), 3 of decimal(9,3) and 2 of decimal(18,0). The bit I’m puzzled with is it was working and stopped.

I don’t recall changing anything but I wouldn’t rule that out. I ‘ve inspected the source files and I don’t believe they have changed either.

DECLARE
@FileName varchar(50),
@Path varchar(50),
@SqlCmd varchar(1000)
= '',
@ASXCode varchar(5),
@Offset decimal(18,0),

BlobColumn.GetBlobData() With Data Length &&> Integer Length (32767)

Mar 27, 2008

For those of you who would like to reference my exact issue, I'm dealing with the RSExecution SSIS package at the "Update Parameters" data flow task, at the Script Component.

The script tries to split parameter data into name and value. Unfortunately, I have several reports that are passing parameters that are very large. One example has over 65,000 characters all in the normal "&paramname=value&parm2=value..." format.

The code in the script works fine until it gets to one of these very large parameter sets. I have figured out what is causing the issue. Here's some code:

Dim paramBlob as Byte()
paramBlob = Row.BlobColumn.GetBlobData(0, Row.BlobColumn.Length)

The second parameter of the .GetBlobData function takes an INTEGER as its count! Therefore, no matter what kind of datatype I pass to the string that the script will later split, it will be limited to 32767 characters.

THIS IS A PROBLEM!!!

Does anyone know a workaround for this issue? I need all of the parameter data to be reported, and I would hate to have to skip over rows like this. Also, if I'm missing something, please fill me in!

Thanks for your help in advance,
LOSTlover

CommandParameters.length Don't Match Parametervalues.length

Feb 24, 2008

I am trying to narrow down this problem.  Basically, I added 3 columns to my article table.  It holds the article id, article text, author and so on.  I tested my program before adding the additional field to the program.  The program works fine and I can add an article, and edit the same article even though it skips over the 3 new fields in the database.  It just puts nulls into those columns.So, now I have added one of the column names I added in the database to the code. I changed my businesslogic article.vb code and the addarticle.aspx, as well as the New article area in the addartivle.aspx.vb  page. The form now has an additional textbox field for the ShortDesc which is a short description of the article. This is the problem now:  The command parameters.length is 9 and there are 10 parameter values.  Right in the middle of the 10 values is the #4 value which I inserted into the code.  It says Nothing when I hover my mouse over the code after my program throws the exception in 17 below.  Why is  command parameters.length set to 9 instead of 10?  Why isn't it reading the information for value 4 like all the other values and placing it's value there and calculating 10 instead of 9? Where are these set in the program?  Sounds to me like they are hard coded in someplace and I need to change them to match everything else.  1 ' This method assigns an array of values to an array of SqlParameters.2 ' Parameters:3 ' -commandParameters - array of SqlParameters to be assigned values4 ' -array of objects holding the values to be assigned5 Private Overloads Shared Sub AssignParameterValues(ByVal commandParameters() As SqlParameter, ByVal parameterValues() As Object)6 7 Dim i As Integer8 Dim j As Integer9 10 If (commandParameters Is Nothing) AndAlso (parameterValues Is Nothing) Then11 ' Do nothing if we get no data12 Return13 End If14 15 ' We must have the same number of values as we pave parameters to put them in16 If commandParameters.Length <> parameterValues.Length Then17 Throw New ArgumentException("Parameter count does not match Parameter Value count.") 18 End If19 20 ' Value array21 j = commandParameters.Length - 122 For i = 0 To j23 ' If the current array value derives from IDbDataParameter, then assign its Value property24 If TypeOf parameterValues(i) Is IDbDataParameter Then25 Dim paramInstance As IDbDataParameter = CType(parameterValues(i), IDbDataParameter)26 If (paramInstance.Value Is Nothing) Then27 commandParameters(i).Value = DBNull.Value28 Else29 commandParameters(i).Value = paramInstance.Value30 End If31 ElseIf (parameterValues(i) Is Nothing) Then32 commandParameters(i).Value = DBNull.Value33 Else34 commandParameters(i).Value = parameterValues(i)35 End If36 Next37 End Sub ' AssignParameterValues38 39 40 41

...Contains More Than The Maximum Number Of Prefixes. The Maximum Is 3.

Oct 10, 2005

SQL Server 2000 8.00.760 (SP3)I've been working on a test system and the following UDF worked fine.It runs in the "current" database, and references another database onthe same server called 127-SuperQuote.CREATE FUNCTION fnGetFormattedAddress(@WorkID int)RETURNS varchar(130)ASBEGINDECLARE@Address1 As varchar(50)@ReturnAddress As varchar(130)SELECT@Address1 = [127-SuperQuote].dbo.tblCompany.Address1FROM[Work] INNER JOIN[127-SuperQuote].dbo.tblCompany ON [Work].ClientID =[127-SuperQuote].dbo.tblCompany.CompanyIDWHERE[Work].WorkID = @WorkIDIF @Address1 IS NOT NULLSET @ReturnAddress = @ReturnAddress + @Address1 + CHAR(13)+ CHAR(10)RETURN @ReturnAddressENDSo now the system has gone live and it turns out that the live"SuperQuote" database is on a different server.I've linked the server and changed the function as below, but I get anerror both in QA and when checking Syntax in the UDF builder:The number name 'Zen.SuperQuote.dbo.tblCompany' contains more than themaximum number of prefixes. By the way, I've rather simplified thefunction to ease readability. Also, I haven't posted any DDL because Idon't think that's the problem!ThanksEdward

Return Error Code (return Value) From A Stored Procedure Using A Sql Task

Feb 12, 2008

I have a package that I have been attempting to return a error code after the stored procedure executes, otherwise the package works great.

I call the stored procedure from a Execute SQL Task (execute Marketing_extract_history_load_test ?, ? OUTPUT)
The sql task rowset is set to NONE. It is a OLEB connection.

I have two parameters mapped:

tablename input varchar 0 (this variable is set earlier in a foreach loop) ADO.
returnvalue output long 1

I set the breakpoint and see the values change, but I have a OnFailure conditon set if it returns a failure. The failure is ignored and the package completes. No quite what I wanted.

The first part of the sp is below and I set the value @i and return.

CREATE procedure [dbo].[Marketing_extract_history_load_TEST]

@table_name varchar(200),

@i int output

as

Why is it not capturing and setting the error and execute my OnFailure code? I have tried setting one of my parameter mappings to returnvalue with no success.

Timeout In SQL2k

I moved my DB from SQL7.0/NT to SQL2k/WIN2k.
Everything was fine from the last few months but suddenly I start getting timeout errors.
I checked and rebuild all the indexes - there are no deadlocking at all - everything looks quite normal to me - I am all lost now as what to monitor and where to see for this timeout error messages.
Anyone has any idea as what is going on what should I check to see if that's the cause.
I also ran Profiler but there too nothing too long as to timeout.
My sql box is attached to IIS box and pager is set on IIS box.
The problem is not with IIS box cuz when I shift the applications to another SQL box everything runs fine and there is no timeout messages.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Restoring SQL2K% To SQL 2K - Possible?

Jan 23, 2007

I have been sent a backup file from a supplier that I have been trying to restore. I have succesfully installed it on my SQL2K5 instance, however, we need to put it on our SQL Server in our DMZ . . . Which is running SQL2K . . . Supplier was informed of this and says that you can restore to a SQL2K DB as long as you use SQL Management Studio . . . Tried that and got an error message Saying That Restore Headeronly is terminating - Too many backup devices specified. . . only 64 are allowed. . . .Supplier suggests that its a SP4 issue . . . Installed SP4 and tried again . . . Got the Same Error again (SQL Server Error :3205)

Am I out of my gourd I am sure that restoring a SQL2K5 Backup to a SQL2K instance is not possible?

I should say that I am Running SQLExpress as my 2K5 Instance and MSDE as my 2K instance . . . Before I invest more time on this and trying it on a development server running Standard edition.

Thanks All
