I have an SDF using SQLCE 2.0. When I run the app on a Pocket PC device running Windows Mobile 5.0 I get 0x80004005 and 0x80040e21 errors. The same app executes fine on PPC 2003.
The app is written in VC++ using and uses the SQLCE OLEDB Provider to access the SDF. It is complied with eVC 4.0
I was migrating one of my applications to VS.NET 2008 to start testing the new platform and encountered an error. One of my application requires the use of System.Data.SqlServerCe namespace to create a SQL Server CE database on a desktop machine.
The error is raised when I try to use a SqlCeCommand to insert rows in a table using parameters. If the order of the fields in the INSERT command does not match the order of the fields in which the table was created, an error is raised.
Investigating further, I noticed that the INSERT command was trying to insert the value of a parameter in an incorrect field. For example, the value for the field23 was being inserted into field22.
It looks like the SQL CE engine is rearranging the fields in the INSERT command to match the order of the fields in the table, but forgets to rearrange the parameters of the SqlCeCommand as well.
I give the example codes in the next posts. I will give it in both VB.NET and C#.
For both versions, you just need to create a Windows Application and add a reference to System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll. Insert the corresponding code into the Form1 partial class.
In the example, the constant RaiseError can be set to Boolean.True in order to raise the error. Set it to Boolean.False to execute correctly.
I'm getting the following error when trying to connect to the sqlce database on my mobile device. "Specified SQL server not found: (Program FilesDBA_test.sdf)"
The DB file exists in the directory specified and is in working order I was able to run a simple sql query against it (SELECT * FROM A_Test). So, I'm a little confused on how to correct this problem??? I'm assuming it's some type of mapping issue with the program and the DB but I'm not sure how to correct..
Code Snippet
Public Function DB_Dataset() As DataSet 'returns a dataset with query results ' Make the database connection. Dim myConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(GetConnectionString())
'Open the connection
myConnection.Open() 'Open a set of records Dim ad As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT [names] FROM testtable", myConnection) Dim ds As DataSet = New DataSet()
'Close the connection
myConnection.Close() End Function
Private Function GetConnectionString() As String Return "Data Source=(" & apppath + "DBA_test.sdf);Database=A_test; Integrated Security=SSPI;" End Function Also since there's a DataSet that contains the connection information shouldn't I be able to access this directly instead of having to supply the connection information in a connect string?
I've created a simple application that uses a SQLCE 3.5 database. When I debug it SQLCE 3.5 is deployed to the emulator. However, I made a "smart device cab project" for my application and copied the cab file to my windows mobile 6 device and it does not deploy SQLCE 3.5. I don't see a way to specify the prerequisites of the "smart device cab project" like you can in a normal setup project. How can I get SQLCE 3.5 to deploy with my application...or even just get it on my device? I've tried installing it on my desktop with the device connected via active sync, but it doesn't install on the device like the compact framework did.
Hi, Can I use SqlCe v3.1 and SqlClient v2.0 in one .net application? (Note: I can't use RDA or replication. SqlClient read and write data in ON-LINE mode, SqlCe store and manipulate with data in OFF-LINE mode.)
Can someone tell me the easiest way to deploy a SQL/MSDE server database via an installation package.
I have developed an application using SQL server and VB .Net. I am now writing the deployment/setup.exe that will create the database in SQL server. I will have a seperate client installation that will install the program files for client computers
I thought it would be as simple as connecting to SQL server and then executing the script that I had created using Enterprise manager Generate scripts wizard. This script runs OK in the query analyzer but not using conn.execute script.
I know there must be a simple solution that everyone else knows. What is it? Your help is appreciated !
We just converted one of our commercial applications over to using SQL Server. We have a database that is about 700megs in size, what I want to know is how is one suppose to actually deploy a database in an automated install? I have created T-SQL insert scripts, but it is 764M in size, and it takes forever to read the script in to send to the SQL Server. So I am looking for suggestions on how to actually do this.

I want to deploy my database application to my client's computer. My application uses SQL Server 2014. My client has to run that software on a single PC. I was looking to download a lightweight version of SQL Server that can fulfill my requirements, so when I was looking for SQL Server downloads, I saw these files there, which file should I use in my situation

I've been creating a vb.net 2005 windows form application using Everywhere and it has been going pretty well. However, I haven't had much luck finding any help on how to deploy my Everywhere database file(s) and Everywhere itself. To install redistribute Everywhere, can I just add the the 8 .dlls found in the Everywhere directory into my VS setup project? Also, what database file(s) do I need to deploy in my windows setup?
I'm attempting to use RDA to synchronize a pocket pc emulator with SQL Server 2005 database by following tutorial http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx, which uses AdvWorksMobile database that comes with SQL Server 2005.
When get to testing of "To test application features " ( step 4 of the merge replication setup lab ), I am receiving SQLCe Exception errors.
ORIGINALLY, I was able to deploy an application and view the local database on the emulator, but once I clicked "InitSinc" button, I received an error.
"Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not" exist, access is denied because the SQL user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect. Found this error listed in Server Agent Errors log http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172357.aspx, but it wasn't very helpful since it doesn't provide any suggestions on fixing the problems.
I am brand new to SQL CE Server , mobile programming and .NET framework in general so please bare with me
All the connections / security settings, etc that were set up were taken from a tutorial so I am not sure what SQLCeServer is complaining about. Reading up on the error on the web didn't help, it all pointed to making sure that the snapshot folder had correct permissions set up. I verified that MACHINENAMEUISR_MACHINENAME guest user had Read rights to the database so I don't think that piece is the problem. Otherwise ,Merge publication has been setup in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio by following the tutorial.
I am trying to run this sync on my home pc so there should be no issues with any user permissions
I have IIS installed
I did NOT have SQL Server Agent running in management studio at this time
I am trying to run this tutorial on an XP machine, which is my regular home PC so I dont think there are any special networking settings to consider
I am able to hit http://localhost/AdvWorksMobile/sqlcesa30.dll from my pc OK, but when I try to hit it from a cradled emulator ( after replacing "localhost" with "MACHINE_NAME" ), Internet Explorer on the emulator gives me a "Cannot Connect With Current Settings" error message. This part wasn't part of tutorial but decided so not sure if I am supposed to be able to hit it from my emulator..so I am not sure if the fact that I can't hit it is related to the problem. AFTER STARTING SQL SERVER AGENTin Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I killed the application, and after relaunching it, it hits "The Specified table does not exist [Vendor]" error. This time it doesn't even launch first - that is I dont even get to pressing "InitSinc" button. Debugger is showing that this error is hit on the following line in AdvWorksMobile.AddWorksDataSetTableAdapters
int returnValue = this.Adapter.Fill(dataTable);
I am not sure why the errors changed on me after starting SQL Server Agent. What can I do to fix this connection problem?
have SQL Server 2005 std edition SP1 installed on Windows 2003 Std edition .Configured Transactional (single Publisher and no clustered environment.) Replication past two months working fine, Now 1.Distrib.exe application err is coming.
Due to which my job is failing (Distributor to Subscriber). Iam attaching thw file. Thanks Sandeep
I am currently upgrading our ppc app (written in .net 2003) to .net 2005 and from sqlce 2.0 to 3.0. The new application runs out memory(storage) when handling lots of data transactions (both in case of using sqlcedatareader, and dataset ). There is no memory leak issue here, sqlce 3.0 simply uses a lot more (3 times more) memory than sqlce 2.0.
Our applicaton runs fine using sqlce 2.0 and .net 2003, but fail due to memory shortage
with the upgrades(which has the same code). Anyone can shed some lights on this issue?
We are using sql server 2005 Enterprise Edition with service pack1
I got the following error messages in the SQL log
The operating system returned error 21(The device is not ready.) to SQL Server during a read at offset 0x00000000090000 in file '....mdf'. Additional messages in the SQL Server error log and system event log may provide more detail. This is a severe system-level error condition that threatens database integrity and must be corrected immediately. Complete a full database consistency check (DBCC CHECKDB). This error can be caused by many factors; for more information, see SQL Server Books Online. fcb::close-flush: Operating system error 21(The device is not ready.) encountered.
I got these errors for about 2 hrs and after that I see these messages in the sql log
Starting up database ' ' 1 transactions rolled forward in database '' (). This is an informational message only. No user action is required. 0 transactions rolled back in database ' ' (). This is an informational message only. No user action is required. Recovery is writing a checkpoint in database ' ' ( ). This is an informational message only. No user action is required. CHECKDB for database '' finished without errors on (local time). This is an informational message only; no user action is required.
Can anyone please help me in troubleshooting this issue. Why this migh have happened.
I have a database in development in SQL Server 6.5 that needs to be occasionally deleted and rebuilt from a script when table structures are changed. I found that when very complex queries were performed, the 2 MB default size of tempdb filled up and returned errors, so I went to the Enterprise Manager to expand tempdb, learned that I had to first expand a device to expand tempdb into, and foolishly chose to expand tempdb into the same device space used by my application, instead of into one of the system databases. Now when I try to delete the device in preparation for its rebuild, the Enterprise Manager responds with an error message saying the device can't be deleted because it contains system tables. Is there any way to get the expanded portion of tempdb out of my application device so that the device can be deleted, without reinstalling SQL Server?
Currently I have a PC that has MSDE installed on it and is attached to database (MyData.MDF and a log file MYLog.LDF) located on its hard drive at c:data. When I detach from the database, place a copy of the two files noted above on my network drive @ u:data and try to attach I get the following error€™s:
SQL[1] exec error = -1: Changed database context to 'master'. €œDevice activation error. The physical file name u:dataMyData.MDF may be incorrect.€?
I have done some testing a have found that I can attach to a copy of my database if I move it anywhere on the c: drive, and or even to a 1Gb USB key attached to the system(e:). So far it seems to only be an issue if I move it to a mapped network drive. If anyone could please provide me with any info it would be greatly appreciated.

I am new for MS SQL Reports services. I have created a project with data source and reports using MS Visual Studio 2005 as reporting tool and MS SQL Server 2005 as database. Then I would like to deploy whole project (including data source and reports) to report web server. I put report server URL on the TargetServerURL for the project property. Then I tried to deploy it. I entered the user id and password on Reporting Services Login popup screen. Then I got error:

Hello, I have an external DLL (made up of common functions) that is referred to in my report .RDL files. All reports work OK when I generate from within VS2005 (as I have a build script that copies the .DLL into the desired [local] VS2005 folder) however when I deploy to the server I receive the message :-
Error while loading code module:......Details: Could not load file or assembly.......or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
If I copy the DLL manually into ...Reporting ServicesReportServerin folder all works OK however I want to automate the process - is there a way to move this into the desired folder on deployment ?
I'm getting "Error: Value cannot be null." when trying to deploy a report. I've read through a few others problems and checked places they suggest but I'm stumped. Maybe I have changed something but I'm actually more distressed at such a vague message. It simply has no context.
I can't find anywhere to look other than randomly checking every thing or anything.
This is a totally unhelpful error message.
Not sure where to start looking. (I'm on SQL 2005 SP2 build 3175).
Is there any 'trace' or debugging I can turn on for the build process?
i am trying to deploy my reports to reporting server

i dont have http://localhost/ReportingServer running in my local system.
Is it necessary to deploy in localhost before to deploy to reportingserver? if not please let me know what is causing the above error?
