SQLDescribeParam With Subselect: Invalid Parameter Number/Invalid Descriptor Index

Apr 21, 2008

Hello,

I've got the following query:

SELECT zA."ID" AS fA_A
, zA."TEXT" AS fA_B
, (
SELECT COUNT(zC."ID")
FROM Test."Booking" AS zC
) AS fA_E
FROM Test."Stack" AS zA
WHERE zA."ID" = ?

With this query I call:
- SQLPrepare -> SQL_SUCCESS=0
- SQLNumParams -> SQL_SUCCESS=0, pcpar = 1
- SQLDescribeParam( 1 ) -> SQL_ERROR=-1, [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid parameter number", "[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid Descriptor Index"

Is there a problem with this calling sequence or this query? Or is this a problem of SQL Server?

Regards
Markus

SQLDescribeParam Returning Invalid Descriptor Index

May 23, 2007

We've run into a problem using SQLDescribeParam with the SQL Server ODBC driver (or SQL Native Client driver). The basic sequence that shows the issue is this:

SQLPrepare(select * from foo where col1 = ?)
SQLDescribeParam(1)
SQLBindParameter(1)
SQLFreeStmt(SQL_CLOSE) /* NOT RESET_PARAMS */
SQLPrepare(select * from foo where col1 = ? and col2 = ?)
SQLDescribeParam(1)
SQLDescribeParam(2) ==> returns "Invalid Descriptor Index"

If I leave out the SQLBindParameter, then the last SQLDescribeParam works just fine. Also, if I make the SQLFreeStmt use SQL_RESET_PARAMS then it works fine. However, I don't have direct control over the ODBC code being used, so I wanted to see if this known behavior. I've tried a couple of other ODBC drivers that support SQLDescribeParam and they work fine with the above sequence.

Thanks,

Chris

Invalid Descriptor Index Error

Oct 2, 2006

I'm testing db to db transactional replication on a box ( all on the same box ) and the distribution agent fails with the above error. I know it's something to do with the physical server as this test works on other servers fine. SQL2k Ent sp4 on w2k3 ent sp1. ( clustered )

Server and Agent accounts are in local admins, tried push and pull, named and anonymous. Replication also fails if I use the default snapshot location. I suspect policy restrictions ( maybe on the sql service accounts ) Any pointers would be helpful - there are no errors other than above, sadly.

Invalid Descriptor Index (and ODBC Questions)

Feb 27, 2002

We recently upgraded a SQL 7.0 SP2 database to SQL 2000 SP2. The web server that connects to both databases (we have 2 up that we can switch back and forth) is Win2K with the SQL Server ODBC driver of 2000.80.194.00 (I'm thinking this came w/ W2K) But I think I installed the 7.0 client connectivity on the web server.

I have a few questions:
1. Any reason why this would happen with the SQL upgrade?
2. What is the ideal situation for client/server ODBC drivers / MDAC client.. If I have a SQL 2000 SP2 server do I install SQL 2000 client on the web server and also the service pack on the web server?

Thanks and please ask if you need more info..

Invalid Descriptor Index Calling SQLGetData

Mar 10, 2006

In previous versions of MSSQL and on every other SQL engine I've tried the following pseudo-code works.

SQLExecDirect('select employeeid, photo, notes from employees where employeeid = 1')

SQLFetch()

SQLGetData(for column 3)

SQLGetData(for column 2)

With the Native Client I get an error 07009 "[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Invalid Descriptor Index"

Is this a bug in the Native Client or am I making an incorrect assumption that I can get data in any order?

Same Order Doesn't Work - Invalid Descriptor Index

Dec 28, 2005

Hi all,

I'm getting this "invalid descriptor index" exception while trying to fetch a record from the table.
The query is "select * from <tablename> where <columnname> = 'xyz'". The column name is correct and indeed a record with 'xyz' value exists. The record is getting fetched too...! But I'm having this particular error while trying to retrieve a couple of fields with rs.getString().
The order of columns in the table is same as the order in which I'm retrieving them. And I'm not facing any problem retrieving another field which has width of 200 characters.
I'll be very grateful indeed if someone can help me out of this particular problem...

Cheers, mates!

Missing Or Invalid Key In Index

May 19, 2005

Hi,
I run a nightly dbcc checktable on order_header and today I see this error occurs.
Table error: Table 'ORDER_HEADER' (ID 203147769). Missing or invalid key in index 'PK_ORDER_HEADER' (ID 4) for the row:
Server: Msg 8955, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
1. I have no idea what caused it?
2. How do I fixed this online as the application is 24/7?
3. I did try to dbcc reindex but it failed reporting that can't create index because of duplicate in primary index key????

Please show me a way to fix this.

Thanks
Dave

Invalid Number Of Result Bindings - Help Please!

Nov 13, 2007

Hello, I am very, very new to the world of SSIS and from a totally different platform (iSeries), learning, digging and finding golden nuggets as I go. If this is not the forum to which I should be addressing my dilemma, please let me know as to whom or where I should direct it to. I have presented this question at two other forums, and I find it difficult to believe that no one is able to help me.

My two questions are as follows:

Question One:

I am presently encountering the following exception.

SSIS package "DW.CUST_CNCL_ORD.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC00291E2 at BP Parter Exec SQL, Execute SQL Task: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_Rowset".
Task failed: BP Parter Exec SQL
Warning: 0x80019002 at DW CUST_CNCL_ORD: The Execution method succeeded, but the number of errors raised (1) reached the maximum allowed (1); resulting in failure. This occurs when the number of errors reaches the number specified in MaximumErrorCount. Change the MaximumErrorCount or fix the errors.
SSIS package "DW.CUST_CNCL_ORD.dtsx" finished: Failure.

Try as I do to find information regarding this exception, I am not able to. Can anyone share their wisdom on this topic?

Question two:

Is there a book that you may recommend that will contribute to my learning this new platform and evironment? I presently have the SQL Server 2005 integration services book.

Sample code follows:

SELECT BUS_YY_ID AS RBUS_YY_ID, BUS_PRD_ID AS RBUS_PRD_ID, BUS_PRD_STRT_DT AS RBUS_PRD_STRT_DT,
BUS_PRD_END_DT AS RBUS_PRD_END_DT
FROM BP.BUS_PRD_DT
WHERE (BUS_YY_ID = ?)

The first parameter is defined as parameter 0 - Direction is Input

Subsequent parameters are defined as follows:

Variable Name Direction Parameter Name Current_Year Input 0
RBUS_YY_ID Output 1
RBUS_PRD_ID Output 2
RBUS_PRD_STRT_DT Output 3
RBUS_PRD_END_DT Output 4

Result is defined as follows:

Result Name Variable Name
1 RBUS_YY_ID
2 RBUS_PRD_ID
3 RBUS_PRD_STRT_DT
4 RBUS_PRD_END_DT

Thank you in advance for any information you may provide.

Invalid Parameter Binding(s)--Please Help

Apr 6, 2006

I am real new to SQL Server. We are using SQL Server 2000.

My objective is to get a list of all store procedures for specific database. To accomplish this, I programmatically create a connection to the 'master' database where the sp resides, create a callablestatment for 'sp_stored_procedures' ({call sp_stored_procedures(?,?,?)}). I am passing in null, null, and the database name. When I execute the query, I get the below error:

Code:

java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Invalid parameter binding(s).
at com.microsoft.jdbc.base.BaseExceptions.createException(Unknown Source)

When I made the connection to the master database, I used one of the existing users from the master database.

I looked at the store procedure and verified the sp has 3 input parameter. The first two can be null.

I am not sure why I can not run this sp. I am wondering if we have the database setup properly. Any help or suggestions would be well worth it at this point.

Thanks in advance for reading my post.

Invalid Reconciler Parameter

Jan 5, 2007

First of all... thanks for a great and interesting product... this is really nice...

I'm working with a winform app and pushing it out via click-once deployment (using the bootstrapper for SQLCompact as well)... the SQL install is fine, however when my app attempts to do anything with the db, i get an error "invalid reconciler parameter" error... some searching seems to indicate that this could be coming from the path being longer than 128chars... howeve, using click once, i'm not certain I can control the deployment location... I'm certain that there is a work around, but not sure what it is... any guidance?

As a note, running the app on the same machine using the output from VS (not installed via ClickOnce but simply running hte exe) works fine...

Thanks,

Restore Gives 'invalid Logical Page Number' Error

Jun 24, 1999

We tried to restore an empty database from a backup and got:
'Load database encountered an invalid logical page number' error.
This then set the database as 'loading'

Anyone got any ideas?

We aren't exactly sure how big the first database was when the backup was done but if the new database isn't big enough to contain the backed up data, wouldn't we get a more meaningful error?

DTS & SP3: Chronic "Invalid Parameter" Error Remedied

Jan 7, 2001

FYI. Perhaps I missed it on the Fix List, but applying SP3 to my Win2K Professional workstation w/ SQL Server 7 Desktop Edition remedied a chronic error I'd been receiving when trying to open a pre-existing DTS package which resided on other servers. For weeks, no matter what I've tried, I've been getting a message box saying "Invalid Paramter". (I didn't go as far as an uninstall / re-install, but I did about everything short of that.) After applying SP3, the DTS packages open up easily.

Data-driven Subscription - Invalid Parameter?

Aug 23, 2007

Hi,

I've set up a data-driven subscription on a report but it's not sending and the error log says it's because:

Default value or value provided for the report parameter 'CSRFaxID' is not a valid value.

For the particular dataset record causing the error I'm passing the value Null to the report parameter. The report parameter CSRFaxID is set up with "Allow Null" and with a default value of Null. I can run the report in my browser with CSRFaxID set to null, but the scheduled subscription is not able to produce the report with the same parameter value. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it?

Greg McNamara

Adding Numeric Data To A Dataflow In A Scriptcomponent-&&> Invalid Number In OLE Db Command Transformation

Jun 9, 2006

Hi there,

This seems a bug to me. Or does anyone has a logical explanation that escapes me?

When in SSIS Designer Version 9.00.1399.00 I add output columns (numeric 4,0 ) to a scriptcomponent and fill them with valid numeric data in thescript I get a database error 'invalid number' when I use these columns in an OLE db Command-transformation . This errormessage disappears when I replaces those columns by a dataconversion to the datatype they originally have.

Derived Column Name Derived Column Expression

STATUS_DEF Replace 'STATUS_DEF' (DT_NUMERIC,4,0)STATUS_DEF

Maybethis info is usefull for somebody else who can't figure out wathever he's doing wrong.

--// Now execute the Select with the PIVOT and dynamically add the list
--// of dates for the columns
EXEC( 'SELECT * FROM ForEthnicPivot PIVOT (SUM(countID) FOR Team IN (' + @Teams + ')) AS X' )
end
************

I can call the function:
exec EthnicityPivot '01/01/2007','09/09/2007'

and it works fine in SQL analyzer, but when I want to use it in Visual Studio in a new report I am getting this error
