Transfer Data To Hostserver MSSQL-2000

Jul 17, 2006

Thanks for the replies,

As per the querys:
------------------------
1) I am trying to use the Database of my host (hosting server of datapacket). They have a support for MS-SQL-2000. Therefore surely the server is there. After my CPanel configuration i got the Database Server IP (67.122.X.X), Port - 1433, SQL Server user and pasword.

2) In my local machine SQL Server 2000 is installed. Where the databse and DNS is configured.

Now, from this local machine how can i transfer the data to the host machine (remote SQL Server).

Simpliy copying Files *.MDG and *.LDf files it is not working. And i don't have access to the remote SQL-SERVER as it is in the host machine of datapacket. I can only configure it throuch there Control Panel and throuch FTP can copy the required files in there machine. I have a user in that remote MS-Sql server that all i have.

As per my understanding after the control panel configuration the database and the DNS is created in the remote Sql-Server of datapacket. Now all i have to do is transfer the data & tables. HOW TO DO THAT?????

I have tried using Export but it fails to connet the remote database.

Thanks in Advance

Sql 2000 Copy To Sql 2005 Loses Identity Seeds In Transfer

Feb 3, 2006

I have a database that I am trying to copy to sql server 2005 and when I copy it the "Identity Seed" property loses its value.

I have tried to use the "Export" method by right clicking on the database then going to "Tasks" then "Export Data"
This copies all of the data but it removes the "Identity Seed" value.

When I run the "copy database" function it will also copy all of the data in the database but it will still not keep the "Identity Seed" value

I have many tables in the database with the identity seed field set to 1 on the primary key so that it will automatically create the primary key for each record.
Without this errors will occur in my web application because it thinks that I am trying to enter a null value into the primary key when it is supposed to auto populate.
When I export it with sql server 2005 it turns it back to zero.
The export function worked fine in Sql server 2000

The only way I can get it to work is by backing up the database and restoring it, but this is very time consuming and adds many steps to the process, and also makes it so that I have to overwrite my old database with the same name.

Is there a way to use the export function or the copy database function to retain the Identity Seed value

I really need this to continue do the switch to 2005 server. It seems like this may be a bug of some sort

Have Transferred Database && Users From Sql 2000 To 2005 But How Do I Transfer Their Permissions ?

Aug 14, 2007

We are currently running sql 2000 and are moving our database onto sql 2005 running on a different box.

We have managed to move the entire database, with users however the users permissions on specific tables/views/stored procedures have not been transferred, does anyone know a way of transferring user permissions rather then doing them all by hand?

The system is a large (over 500 table/views/stored procedures) and a very active one and therefore downtime is not optional.

any suggestions would be appreciated

Data Transfer From Lotus Notes Very Slow Compared To SQL 2000 DTS

Sep 7, 2006

To extract data from an ODBC source, try the following:

Add an ADO.Net Connection Manager.
Edit the Connection Manager editor and select the ODBC Data Provider
Configure the Connection Manager to use your DSN or connection string
Add a Data Flow Task to your package.
Add a Data Reader Source adapter to your data flow
Edit the Data Reader source adapter to use the ADO.Net connection manager that you added.
Edit the Data Reader source to query for the data you wish to extract.

hth

Donald

Using the steps outlined above as described by Donald Farmer in another post on this forum, I have created an SSIS package which retrieves data from Lotus Notes 6.55. The DSN referenced by the ADO.Net Connection Manager connects to Lotus Notes via the NotesSQL ODBC driver 3.02g.

When I execute the dataflow, data is transferred from Lotus Notes, but the data transfer rate is extremely slow compared to SQL 2000 DTS. In SQL 2000 DTS, we can retrieve just under half a million records from Lotus Notes in about 13 minutes. Utilizing the same DSN on the same machine, SQL 2005 SSIS completes the transfer in about 57 minutes.

Is there anything that can be done to improve the performance in SSIS to retrieve data from Lotus Notes via ADO.Net ODBC?

Thanks!

New SQL 2005 Old SQL 7 And AS400 Need To Transfer Data

Nov 14, 2007

I am creating a migration tool that retrieves data from an AS400 and an SQL 7 server to create a new database in SQL 2005. I have managed to create a linked server in SQL 2005 to the AS400. I don't know if it works or not. I've been trying to create a linked server to the SQL 7 server with no luck. The AS400 and SQL servers are on the same network. The SQL 2005 server is hosted somewhere else. I have access to everything. The SQL 2005 server is running Workstation. I tried to use Integration Services but finally discovered it was unavailable to Workstation.

I could use some good ideas or help.

Need Help Using Foreach Loop To Transfer Data From DB2/400 To SQLServer 2005

May 8, 2007

Hi, I am attempting to create SSIS packages to extract data from our AS/400 DB2 databases and populate tables for analysis and reporting in SQLServer. We have recently installed a new 2005 SQL Server to replace our existing 2000 databases. I have several DTS packages setup to connect to the 400s and copy the needed data to SQL2000 and these work great but do not transition to SSIS very well. I can get my SSIS packages to work if I create a seperate data flow task for each table but that does not seem appropriate for a tool like SSIS. I would think that what I am attempting is a very common thing to do. Maybe other enumerators could be used but I have not been able to get it to work.

I am trying to use a foreach loop, currently with a forech item enumerator, to first truncate the table on the SQL Server database using an Execute SQL task, and the to use a Data Flow task to refresh the data using an ole db source and destination. I have the truncate portion working, but when I try to setup the Ole db source using a variable it tells me I have no input columns. I have a variable from the forech loop that loops through the table names, this variable is used in a second variable which is set to EvaluateAsExpression with the expression set to the follwoing: "select * from " + @table_name

I have set delayvalidation to true and validateexternalmetadata to false. What do I do in order to get around this issue? Also, how should the old db destination be set so that it load the data into the table specified in the variable?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Bit-data From SQL Server 2000 (2005 Working, 2000 Doesn't)

May 19, 2008

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring             <SelectParameters>                <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" />            </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000?  (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

SQLExpress To SQL 2000

Jul 22, 2006

To be as brief as possible:I had Visual Studio 2005 installed with SQLExpress 2005.  worked reallll good :) I needed to convert an excell spreadsheet to SQL, so I migrated it to Access.  Then the upsizing wizard would not/could not create an sql table with the data.  Just would not take the data when the table was created. Argh.FINALLY figured out that the SQLexpress 2005 doesn't come with import/export.So I uninstalled the sqlexpress and installed SQL 2000 - Developer.  Veeola, able to convert and created the table I needed. Now Visual Studio 2005 won't let me touch the sql file, says it requires sql server express 2005.My ISP does not support SQL 2005 yet.  Is there anyway to get Visual Studio 2005 to work with SQL 2000 (only?)If I install SQLExpress over again, will it create problems when I go to publish my website, and more importantly right now, will anything bad happen when I reinstall sql express, or do I need to uninstall SQL 2000 first?  Thanks...

SqlExpress / Sql Server 2000

May 9, 2008

Hi Guys,
Hope you don't mind. I have put this in a different forum and although I appreciate the help, I'm not getting the answers I need and I am running out of time.

I have developed a web app in Visual Studio 2005. When I choose "view in browser" default.aspx from within Visual Studio it works perfectly. If I go directly to Internet Explorer and type in http://localhost/testapp it gives me an error of:

"Server Application Unavailable The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.
Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur."

This is because in IIS Virtual Directory for TestApp if I choose the asp.net tab and the choose "Edit Cofiguration" Button in the Connection String Manager LocalSqlServer is set to "data source=.SQLEXPRESS;Integrated Security=SSPI; AttachDBFilename=|DataDirectory|aspnetdb.mdf;User Instance=true"

Which is making it use SQLExpress. If I Type "http://localhost:1323/testapp" it works because SQLExpress is still running. I want to be able to type "http://localhost/testapp" and it uses Sql Server 2000 How do I get it to do that.

I appreciate any help you can give.

Best Regards,
Steve.
