SQLMag InstantDoc 95385 MultiServer Issue

Jun 11, 2007

I downloaded this document from the SQLMag website. It is to create a configuration database and seems like a good template. After beginning to set this up, I debugged it. Currently everything runs fine until the package hits load server info. When it tries to load the servers, it turns red. Also, I can't make any changes to the MultiServer Connection Manager because I always get the error "the connection string is not valid." As far as I can tell, this should never be valid when it comes to dynamic connections. Thus, I am perplexed. I really need to get this running, and I think I have narrowed down the error. From what I can tell, MultiServer is a dynamic list of all of the servers on the network. If anybody else has encountered this perticular error, please reply.

MSX Multiserver Administration

Feb 18, 2002

I have configured a master server to do multiserver administration and configured my production server as a client. My problem is that when I try to create a multi system maintenance plan it says that I get a security error and it won't create the plan. I have local admin rights to both systems. Do I need domain admin rights?

Question On Multiserver Environment In SQL Server 2005

Aug 23, 2007

I am creating a backup strategy for our non-production SQL Server 2005 data. We wish to utiliza the Master/Target Server scenario avaible in SQL Server 2005 with events directed to the Master Server. The question I have is what is the symptoms from the Target Servers if the Master Server fails and is unavailable for whatever reason there might be? I can change the event notification back to local server, but what other impact is there and are there any recommendations as to handle a Master Server outage so Maintenance plans can continue to execute as scheduled on Target Servers.

Thank you!
