SQLMaint Runs Clean BUT Sched Task Fails
Jun 18, 1999
I have a number of test databases which were created from the same backup. Set up SQLMaint to run on them each night. SQL Maint seems to run clean on all of them, but on two the Scheduled Task shows "Failed". All tasks have been set up exactly the same.
Has anyone run into something like this?
Here's the output from the maintenance job for one of the failing db's:

In a integration project I am moving data from A to B.
First time is fine - since table B is empty.
However next time I run the process, I would like to delete all records in B before I run the project again.
What is the best way to delete / clean up data when you re run the process ?
Cheers, T

"Database in use. The system administrator must have exclusive use of the database to run the restore operation." I created a script in the 7.0 database to reconfig the db to 'dbo use only' and identify and then kill all but the 'SA' and 'NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM' processes but that still is not enough. Can anyone please tell me what I'm missing here?
Thanx.

I created a DTS package on my 2000 box. The package does a transformation from a SQL 7.0 database to a text file.
When I run this package manually, the text file is created correctly. When I schedule this package and it runs as a scheduled task, garbage is put into the text file.
We have a number of packages this is affecting, but haven't been able to determine a pattern.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.

I'm trying to run a job which moves data from one machine to another. I can manually execute the package successfully, but the job always fails. I get the dreaded error message 18456, "login failis for user "". I have double checked the logins for both machines,(sql server agent AND the sql server authentication).
Also, I can run a select statement (from server_ to server_2) successfully from query analyzer i.e.
Select *
from <linked_server_name>.<database>.<database_owner>.<table_name>
however, if I run this query from server_2 to server_1 I get the failed login message similar to the error message found in the job history. Since both servers accept nt logins, where is my problem? They are both set up as linked servers, and they are both mssql oledb.
Any suggestions will be appreciated!
thanks

Like the name says, I'm trying hard, but I'm obviously missing something. Okay, I'm new to SSIS. I'm trying to write a job that deletes some Excel files on the server, copies some Excel files from a Sharepoint instance to the location where the deleted files were, runs an executable to manipulate those files, and then imports them to my SS instance.
the package runs fine when I run it from Managment Studio after installing it on the server. The 'execute task' fails when I run the job containing the package. After creating a proxy to have the SQL Server agent Service run with appropriate permissions, I thought I would have been rid of permissions issues (I gave the proxy way too much permission in an effort to narrow in on my issue), but I could still be missing something.
The job doesn't get into the package enough to even start writing to my log file, and all I get in the job history is the very cryptic 'DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_FAILURE (1) ' error. If anyone has ideas, I would greatly appreciate being shown the error of my ways.
Thanks!

I've mined countless threads all over the Net where people are having my problem, but none of the solutions I've seen seem to apply.
When I run a DTS package from Enterprise Manager, everything works great. When I schedule the same package as a job, it fails immediately and reports this error:
Executed as user: SERVER-NAMESYSTEM. DTSRun: Loading... Error: -2147221005 (800401F3); Provider Error: 0 (0) Error string: Invalid class string Error source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package Help file: sqldts80.hlp Help context: 713. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.
My hunch is the SERVER-NAMESYSTEM.DTSRun account doesn't have sufficient privileges, but I can't find how/where to fix that.
Help, please.
Thanks,
Doug

I have a stored procedure that syncs 2 databases. It runs fine if I go into the stored procedures and execute it manually, there are a few errors but it doesnt choke on them it completes with the desired end result. However if I create a job to run this dbo, it fails, The error log shows this:

So the error is 3621, and the severity is 14 which as I understand it means Insufficient Permissions.
I have already tried this:
Making the Job Agent service logon as MACHINeNAME/Administrator instead of System, giving the user here (companyname) more permissions, but I am at a loss as to why this runs ok when manually executed but fails when run as a job. I have created the job by scripting the dbo "Execute to a file" and having the job run that file as a step, I have also tried copying and pasting the code from the stored procedure into the job step. It always fails for the same reason.
I must say I am very new to SQL, I am a network admin and have inherited this database and server from another client and have to get this sync task to run daily at certain intervals.
Please can anyone shed light on this issue?
Thanks,

I have a 7 step SSIS package that manipulates some data on a DB2 database. The package executes perfectly in Business Intelligence Development Studio. I save the package to my SSIS store and then point my scheduled task to it and it fails after about 9 seconds everytime. I have an identical job that works with a different DB2 database that works without any problem. The only difference is the database it's pointing to.
The package is executing as the same user who created it, which has sysadmin to both the SSIS store and the SQL instance the package is executing on. When I saved the package I selected "Rely on server storage roles for access control" for the protection level.
This one is driving me crazy, can't figure it out. Any idea's?

I have created an SSIS package which, as its 2nd step, picks up a .dbf table and does a Data Flow Task of putting the .dbf table into a SQL Server 2005 table (which was just truncated in Step 1).
The Connection Manager that works on the .dbf table is Native OLE DBMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
The entire SSIS package runs perfectly when i run it from my development environment.
I then assigned this Package to a SQL Server 2005 Job. The entire package is the sole step of the job.
But when I run the SQL Job, the Job fails immediately on Step 2.
Here is the error message in View History of the SQL Job:

Hi all,
I try to make SSSIS packages made on my pc accesible to an other user of SSIS (both running on Windows 2000). The packages are on a shared drive in our LAN.. Some configurationfiles are use to configure the Oracle DBconnection. The same files are on the same location on both PC's

I'm using SSIS in Visual Studio 2012. My Execute SQL Task calls a Stored Procedure where I have a TRY-CATCH. Last week there was a problem and the CATCH was executed and logged an error to my error table, but for some reason the Execute SQL Task didn't fail. Is there a setting to make the Execute SQL Task fail when an SP encounters a failure?

I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)
Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables
vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath
pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

There is one SP with parameters varchar, int, varchar and int. It runs perfect in SSMS. Now, I've moved into a Execute SQL task with four IN parameters. In parameter mapping, data type is varchar, long, varchar, long and parameter name is 0,1,2,3. It worked before which is great. Today, I opened this pkg for another testing but failed with the following error:failed with the following error: "Incorrect syntax near ';'.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
I know SP is fine as tested in SSMS. I could not understand where it could go wrong in the ssis package. Currently using Reporting Service 2000; Visual Studio .NET 2003; Visual Source Safe SSIS 2008 SSAS 2008, SVN --

Performance issue.
I have a very complex Stored Procedure called by a Job that is Scheduled to run every night.
It's execution takes sometimes 1 or 2 hours and sometimes 7 hours or more.
So, if it is running for more than 4 hours I stop the Job and I run the procedure from a Query Window and it never takes more than 2 hours.
Can anyone help me identify the problem ? I want to run from the Job and not to worry about it.
Some more information:
- It is SQL 2000 Enterprise with SP4 in a Cluster (It happens the same way in any node).
- The SQL Server and SQL Agent services run using a Domain Account that have full Administrative access.
- When I connect to a Query Window I also use a Windows Account.
- There is no locks or process bloking or being blocked while the job is running.
- Using the Task Manager the processor activity is ok, no more than 30 % in any processor.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody knows the solution to this problem: I have a DTS package (SQL Server 2000) which is scheduled to pick up and process a TEXT file into the SQL table. The file contains a lot of fields, among them are DUE_DATE and DISC_DATE in such format "MM/DD/YYY" but they are string type in the file. During Transformation Task both fields are being imported into SQL table as DateTime. It happened that today the task failed because the file contained 00 00 0000 and it couldn't convert integer to DateTime. Unfortunatly there is no way to check on correctness of data when file is supplied. Is it possible to do something during transformation task to either remove the record and send email that that record is not being processed or convert bad data to blank string so it can be processed. Not sure if converting is a best practice because i don't know what kind of junk could be entered :)I noticed that actually the problem occurs quite often due to invalid data format supplied in the file. It worries me that the whole process fails when the Transformation fails for the specific record. Please help,Thank you in advance!

Hi:
I am getting the following error when I start debugging my Package, I am not sure what this is related to, but basically, input (datatype is a int, and its mapped to a column which is also int), so I am not sure whats happening here. The input column is actually a derived column, and its set as a 4 byte un-signed int, please advice on where should I start looking to troubleshoot this issue. This loanapplicationid is actually a user variable that is utilized by other tasks in my control flow as well:

Hi everyone:
I have a very simple FTP Task that is supposed to grab two files from an ftp server and save them locally on my machine. The problem is that when I test the connection everything works okay (I know that this connection "hides" the password when seen on the Connection Manager Editor, so I re-enter it everytime I want to test the connection). I can see in the Task property that the username and passwords are set, but regardless I always get this error message:
Error: 0xC002918F at Cost Files Transfer, FTP Task: Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTP Bread".
Any idea what could be worng?

I setup my ExecuteSQL task to have a "Single Row" resultset. The query returns no rows. It fails. I don't think it should but then maybe this is consistent with the lookup transform piping rows down the error output if there is not a lookup value returned.

Now is this a limitation in SSIS or am I missing something. I have an XML file that needs validation. I am using the 'XML Task' control for that. The validation runs fine so long as the file is below a certain size. I am not sure what the cutoff size is but the validation runs fine if the XML file size is 60Mb. I include a few more records in my XML file to make the file size 65Mb and run ETL again and validation fails!
There is not much detail in the error message other than 'Task XML Validation failed'. I dont think there should be any kind of timeout issue. The whole process takes less than a minute before failing.
The issue is definately not with the new records that get added. I have verified the new file with xmlspy and it validates just fine. I have also validated the newly added records (5 Mb) through the same ETL process and that runs fine too.
Please suggest if I should spend time finding what the issue is or simply move on assuming its a known bug? Has any one experienced this?
Thanks,
Sumeet

I have a stored proceedure (which I will tag on at the end for those interested) which is taking at least 15 minutes to run when executed, but completes in 1 minute when the tsql statement is run in Query Analyser. Why is this?
I suspect that it may be connected to table indexing, but why then is this bypassed when QA is used?
Any advice appreciated.

Hi,
I have a package that has several FTP tasks in sequence:
[ftp task 1]->[ftp task 2]->[ftp task 3]->[ftp task 4]
[Ftp task 4] fails about 20% of the time, for no apparent reason. This is the error message I receive:
[FTP Task] Error: Unable to receive files using "FTP Connection Manager".
The problem is, it works most of the time (80%), but every 4 or 5 tries, it fails. This makes NO sense to me. Is this a bug perhaps?
Please help... should we use an ftp script instead, as the ftp task seems rather unreliable.
Thanks

I have added a package from SQL Server to another package as an "Execute Package Task" it fails with this error:
Error: Error 0xC0014062 while preparing to load the package. The LoadFromSQLServer method has encountered OLE DB error code 0x80040E14 (Only the owner of DTS Package 'nVision_AgentPump' or a member of the sysadmin role may create new versions of it.). The SQL statement that was issued has failed. .
I tried setting the Protection Level to "don't save sensitive", and running the package in process and out. Any idea where to look?
Thanks,
Kayda

I have a package (i.e. child package) which runs itself perfectly fine without displaying any error.
However when I embeded this package inside another package (i.e. parent package) using Execute Package Task. The task always fails. It seems strange enough.
The child package has two variables that need to be passed in from parent package.
Can any expert here please help out? Thanks.

Hi,
I have an FTP task on a package that runs every hour, downloads files from FTP and processes them.
If there are no files, the package should stop successfully after the FTP task, but the problem is that it fails because there are no files.
How can I avoid this?
And another question is there another way to download files and delete then with out another FTP task?
Thanks

I searched the forum's threads on this, and while there were many results, none have helped so far.
I am running a DTS package that is an ACtiveX Script Task using VBScript. The script uses CreateObject() to create a FileSystemObject to copy an .MDB before importing the tables into SQL Server. I want to copy it because of Access' notoriety of corrupting, and this much data being pumped out of Access could force me to Compact & Repair. I would rather do that on a copy.
Function Main()
Dim FSO
Set FSO=CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
FSO.CopyFile "\<server><Share>Data.mdb", "\<server>C$DataCopyData.mdb"
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
The DTS Package runs when I execute it from Ent. Manager, of course. It fails if scheduled, or course :(
I have set the Owner of the Scheduled Task to my domain account, which is also in the Adminstrators Group on the physical server with the SQL Server installation (Windows 2003 Server). I also did the unnecessary task of adding my domain account specifically to the destination folder, which is also Shared.
My sqlagent.exe service runs as SYSTEM on the server, so the SQLAgent should have no problem copying a file from one folder on the server to another.
The Scheduled Task fails with the common error:
DTSRun: Loading...
DTSRun: Executing...

I checked this MS KB Article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q298725/), but the instructions after opening DCOMcnfg.exe do not follow what is shown in the WMI window on Windows 2003 Server  (i.e. there is no "Default Security" tab to click.)
I am at a loss here. Thanks for your help.
