SQLMobile Replication To SQL Server 05 64bit

May 2, 2006

I am looking at buying a new database server to run SQL Server 2005. I want to get 64 bit server, windows standard 64 and SQL Server 64. I already have an app I created that uses SQLMobile on a Windows Mobile 5.0 device. Will I be able to run this app if I move to the 64 bit or am I better off just staying 32 bit?

Install 64bit SSRS On An Existing 64bit SQL Server Installation

Oct 2, 2007

We have a 64bit installation of SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS) running and working fine. There is a requirement to install 64bit SSRS on this existing setup.
The problem is: While running the SQL Server Setup wizard, the Reporting Services checkbox remains greyed out. In other words, there isnt an option to select SSRS for installation.
So the question is: Is it even possible to install 64bit SSRS on an existing 64bit SQL server installation - given that SSRS wasnt installed during the first pass.
PS: The SQL Server is SP2 on a Windows Server 2003 configured as an App Server.

Vista 64bit, SQL 2005 64bit, But DB Service Is Only 32bit ?

Jun 6, 2007

I just installed the 64bit Vista and than wanted to install the 64bit SQL 2005 Std. Server on it.

Note: I downloaded my license from https://licensing.microsoft.com/eLicense/L1033/ProductDetail.Asp?SKU=228-05338.

Installing from SQLSTDSEL.ISO file results in the warning that for the REPORT- Server the .NET version has to be 32bit.

Stopping the installation at this point and try to install from SW CD SQL Svr Standard Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #1 x64 MLF.x11-57664 + SW CD SQL Svr Standard Edtn 2005 64Bit X64 English #2 x64 MLF.x11-57665 does not give the above error but on the other hand installs no server at all since somehow the installation routine is not working at all.

Installing now - after at least analysis server and reports server are 64bit and installed - from the first mentioned ISO results in the installation of the DB- Server.... but as a 32bit installation.

Now I wonder what did not work out - so maybe someone here has an idea if and how this problem is solveable.

SQLMobile Install Help

May 20, 2006

hi -- I installed SQLServer Mobile SDK several months ago and was able to use the system with VS2005 and a PPC. Somewhat later I installed SQL2005 and shortly after uninstalled SQLMobile SDK. I've had to go back and fix the project I wrote with SQL Mobile and I went to install it again. It installed fine, but the SQL Mobile provider was not available in the dialog for "client choices" when i went to configure the Data Connection.

The lack of a provider then corrupted my xsd file. Is there a way to manually install the SQL Mobile provider (or fix the install?) I've uninstalled and reinstalled the SDK a couple times.

SQLMobile 2005 IIS 5.1 Problems

Sep 1, 2006

Hi,
I've installed SQL Server 2005 mobile server tools. Then using the synchronization wizar, i set up a virtual directory on my iis 5.1 (running windows xp).

To test the installation i´ve opened an IE windows, then http://localhost/sqlceremote/sqlcesa30.dll. I get always the same message: "interal server error".

Then i look into the event log and found an IIS WARNING entry saying (in spanish)

"El servidor no pudo cargar la aplicación '/LM/W3SVC/1/root/sqlceremote'. Error 'Interfaz no compatible
'.

-> incompatible interace

I can´t find the way to make this work. Any help?

It may be important to say that i have installed an SQL 2005 express edition instance that is not a default instance becouse i also have an MSDE on the same machine.

thanks.

Limited Number Of Connections To SQLMobile?

May 5, 2006

Using System.Data.SqlClient is there a limit to the number of connections an application can have to a SQLMobile dB?

If
you have a look at the url below, it says "A device can only have a
small number of connections to an instance of SQL Server at any time"

Does this mean 2, or 8 or what?
Should a app try to use only 1 connection throughout, or can we get away with 2-3?
Is this the same on WM5.0/PPP2003?

Any advice in this area much appreciated!

p.s. I'm not interested in connection pooling!

Problems Connecting To SQL Server 2005 SP2 On Windows Server 2008 (both 64bit)

Apr 3, 2008

Hi All,
After I installed sql server 2005 64bit standard edition on Windows Server Enterprise 2008 64bit, I cannot connect to the sql instance using the sql management studio on the same machine!
I verified that:

service is running,

in surface area configuration: remote connections to local and remote are enabled, for TCP/IP and named pipes.

ran the command netstat -avn| findstr 49279 to make sure that the server is listening.

firewall is off, but this does not matter since I'm connecting locally to local instance

I'm using domain controller account to login to sql server / also tried the sa account.
what else can be wrong?

thanks.

Exporting To Excel From 64bit SQL Server

Nov 15, 2007

Hi,

I am currently in the process of migrating a BIS DB rom SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. This has involved migrating a whole load of DTS to SSIS. This gone, on the whole, pretty well.

However, I still have one package that doesn't work. This package exports some data to text files AND a to a couple of Excel files. However, the Excel part is not working. I get the following errors:

[Excel Destination [130]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "xls_DirectMail_CampaignFile2" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

[Connection manager "xls_DirectMail_CampaignFile2"] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040154. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Service Components" Hresult: 0x80040154 Description: "Class not registered".

Now, I am guessing that this is because there is no MS Office installation on the server. Would this be correct?

What would be the minimum software requirement to get this working?
Would simply installing Excel be enough?

Thanks,
Simon

Can I Use SQL Server 2005 Driver For PHP On X64 2003 Server As 64bit Application?

Nov 21, 2007

I'm sorry to bother you.

Now I'm trying to run PHP web application on x64 2003 Server with Microsoft SQL Server 2005. The version of PHP is 5.2.3. and the web application should be run as 64bit applications. Since there seems no way to use php_mssql.dll on the environment, I'm trying to use SQL Server 2005 Driver for PHP but when PHP loads php_sqlsrv.dll, an error has occurd and there's a following message in an error log...

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library 'c:phpextphp_sqlsrv.dll' - %1 is not a valid Win32 application

From this message, I thought the distributed libraries for Windows would be for a Win32 environment but there seemed no information that says the libraries run on Win32 environment only.

I really appriciate if you help me.
Thank you.

Installing 64bit SQL Server On X64 Windows 2003

Oct 2, 2007

Hi there,

We've got a Windows 2003 (64 bit edition) box to use as our Database server.

I installed SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition) on the machine, but I have a feeling it has installed the 32 bit version and not the 64 bit version.

The reason I think this is that the MSSQL directory is under the 32 bit program files directory and not the 64 bit directory, and also when I look at the service properties it says it's running from WOW6432 registry entry.

Is there a separate disc for the 64bit version? Does the installer automatically work out which version to install or is there some sort of switch I have to do to tell it to install the 64 bit version.

Many thanks for your time.

Connecting To Oracle From Windows 64bit IA Server

Jan 23, 2007

I am trying to pull data from an Oracle 9i database to my SQL Server 2005 sp1 database on Windows 2003 64bit Itanium server. Each time I try to use the import wizard, select the Microsoft OLE DB driver for Oracle, I get an error message telling me that the Oracle client tools are not installed. This happened after I had already installed the 9i tools, tested the connection using TNSPING and confirmed the tnsnames file was correct. So, I uninstalled the 9i tools and then installed the 10g client tools. Tested everything after the install and then tried the import again selecting the MS OLE DB driver for Oracle. I again got the error message that the Oracle tools were not installed.

has anyone ran into this problem and if so, were you able to fix it?

Would This Scenario Benefit From SQL Server 2005 64bit?

Oct 2, 2007

We have an application where part of the database is used for searching products and is very processor intensive due to the number of permutations and calculation that are required. This section of the database is scaled out by using transactional replication so that the €œsearch€? load is removed from central database€™s daily operations.

Each €œsearch€? server can handle around 15,000 search an hour with SQL taking about 3 seconds to return the result in XML (the system has be optimised to squeeze out every last bit of performance). This is in a 32bit environment. One other point, which is probably relevant, is that the Search data only totals 500MB.

With the possibility of upgrading these severs in the near future would we see any performance benefits in going 64bit. I know we won€™t take advantage of increased memory access due to the size of the search data but is there any discernable performance advantage between 32bit v€™s 64 bit processors and SQL Server 2005 64Bit. Or should I stick with SQL Workgroups and 32bit processor and save on the Standard SQL licence?

Many thanks

Migrate SQL Server From 64Bit Platform To 32Bit

Jan 2, 2007

Hi, All:

We have to migrate several 64Bit SQL Servers to 32Bit platform. Due to the 64Bit source systems are all production system, the downtime is too limited. So we can only get the DB files via Detach way. Among the source systems, both SQL2000 and SQL2005 exist.

My question are:

Is it possible to migrate the DB from 64Bit to 32Bit via Detach/Attach?

If ok, how to do that?

Any info will be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Problems With Linked Server To ORACLE (on SQL 2005 64bit)

Jan 26, 2007

Hi all

I have a big problem with creating a linked server to ORACLE database!

- I have installed ORACLE Client 10g on my server (Windows Server 2003 64 bit)
- With ORACLE Tools I am able to connect to the ORACLE Server
- When I try to connect in SQL Server I get the following error:
Cannot create an instance of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server
"MISPROD.WORLD".

I have tried I guess all combinations of getting data out of ORACLE ... :-(
For example:
- SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY([MISPROD.WORLD], 'SELECT * from ORACLE_TABLE')
- SELECT * FROM [MISPROD.WORLD]...ORACLE_TABLE
I allways get the same error and I dont know what to do ...

Would by very very happy for any comment.
