SQLSERVER 2000,How Can I Detect The Last Time Where The Table Has Changed (updated)?

Jan 2, 2008

Hi, I wonder where I can see last update over a table. Maybe sqlserver write some information about every table.

For example there are 300 tables in a database an I want to execute some query to see the last tables updated (list of tables updated > 2008-01-02 )

Hope to be clear,
Best regards

GetProcedureColumns Behavior Changed From SQLServer 2000 To 2005?

Jun 20, 2007

A stored procedure takes an IN parameter, an INOUT parameter, and returns an OUT parameter. When this stored procedure is defined in SQL Server 2000, the JDBC DatabaseMetadata method getProcedureColumns() returns three rows in the resultset:

one for the IN parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=1)
one for the INOUT parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=2), and
one for OUT parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=5).However, when the same stored procedure is defined in SQL Server 2005 (SP2), the getProcedureColumns() method returns only two rows in the resultset:

one for the IN parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=1)
one for the INOUT parameter (COLUMN_TYPE=2).No row for the OUT parameter is returned.

jTDS JDBC driver was used for both of the above tests. When the Microsoft JDBC Driver for 2005 was used against SQL Server 2005, the same behavior (only two rows in the resultset) was observed.

Has someone else run into such a problem? Is this a bug in SQL Server 2005 because the same jTDS driver works as expected against SQL Server 2000 but not against SQL Server 2005? Any feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Is there a Tool/Utility/StoredProcedure/Query/View that can tell me the last time the data in a particular table was changed?

That change can be the result of either an ADD , INSERT, or DELETE statement.

Determining Last Time A Table Was Updated (6.5, 7.0, 2k)

May 28, 2002

I am trying to find a global way of when the last time a row in one of my tables was updated or data inserted. I say global because I don't want to drill down through each table looking for modified rows.

I am a DBA of several hundred databases and want to retire those no longer being used.

Is there a column of a system table that has this info.

Trigger To Indicate The Row Has Been Changed (updated Or Inserted)

Aug 30, 2007

Hi,

We have a column syncUpdate in some tables and we need a trigger (or one for each table) which will set the current dateTime for the syncLastUpdate (dateTime) when either the row is inserted or updated (we have to ignore the syncLastUpdate column itself as this would be an infinite loop, I think).

I don't know much about DB but I think that is easly doable.

Can anyone help me with that, please?

Cheers

Storing Just The Time In Sqlserver 2000

Dec 20, 2004

hi,
i would like to store just the time part in sqlserver 2000. time part with default date which is 1899 - 12- 30 in my sql server. but i read some articles which mentioned default date as 1900 - 01 - 01. i am not sure which one but if i enter just the time part in my sql server and do the query i get 1899 -12-30 and (time part). anyway, i am just wondering whether it is possible to set the trigger or constraints to strip off the date part of entered value and replacing it with default is ok.

the reason is i need to some queries on time part only which is giving some problem now.

Detect No Time Entered For Datetime

Jul 20, 2006

I have a VB.NET program that displays the time extracted from a SQL Server database datetime datatype by way of a User-defined scalar function I created. However, sometimes information is entered into the system through the program that does not have a time-- only a date. SQL Server automatically assigns a time of 12:00 AM to these values (since they're a datetime). Is there any way to detect when this happens in my user-defined scalar function so that when I try to extract time values, I can instead return a message/time of my choice? I would rather not assume that all 12:00 AM values are automatically inserted by SQL Server since this might not actually be the case.

How To Find Out Date/time When Row Was Updated Last Time

Jan 15, 2002

Hello,
we need to track date/time of last update for each record in a table.

As we understand it, we can't use field type Timestamp as this type does
not use dates/times.

Is there any SQL function available which we can bind to a column or
do we really have to use triggers?

Hello. Have a strange one here. I'm backing up databases locally to a driveon the server daily. I needed to change the time of the backup, and didthat, but it's still occuring at the old time.I deleted the old job, and recreated it with the new time. I won't knowuntil tonight at 12:00 whether that worked or not.Can someone tell me where it saves the maintenance schedules and how itkicks it off? Problem Unicode Data 0x2300 In SQLServer 2000 SQLServer 2005 Express

Sep 20, 2006

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))

Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122

Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"

„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f

When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')

and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

Apr 18, 2008

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Thanks!!

Replacing Sqlserver 2000 With Sqlserver 2005 Express

Jun 14, 2006

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.

Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.

If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:

server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"

DB name: name of db instance

port: 1433(default)

user and pass.

My attempts so far results in

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."

and

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

Insert Small Time Into SQL Server 2000 Table

Nov 14, 2003

Im having a lot of trouble inserting a small time value into a table cell. I gave the cell column the data type 'DateTime', i found i couldnt manually insert a time only value such as '12:30 PM' into a column with 'SmallDateTime'. Something about a "SmallDateTime Overflow Error". However if i enter a similar time value into a table column with the data type 'DateTime' it will happily accept it and leave it as entered.

The real problem seems to be when i try to send a time value to that column with my ASP.NET application. Because it inserts the time value and todays date. So that if i send:

12:30 PM

It will be stored as:

15/11/2003 12:30:00 PM

I only want to store the short time, not the date especially not the date that row was created on because thats useless for the purposes of what my application is trying to achieve and just creates problems down the track when selecting rows.

How can i correct this?

Updating Changed Row Via Trigger In SQL Server 2000?

Jul 20, 2005

Hi All,I'm a relatively newbie to SQL Server 2000, having come from a MySQLbackground.I'm creating my first Trigger statement on a table, and I'd like toknow how I go about performing an update on the row that was changedwhen the trigger was fired. To explain, I have 2 columns, one which contains a member number, theother which contains a flag that is supposed to indicate whether ornot the member number in the row has changed since the last time thetable was processed for updates. So, whenever the value in the member number field [memnum] is updated,I want to set the flag [igproc] to true. The best I've been able to do is:CREATE TRIGGER [updateignoreprocflag] ON [dbo].[dd_testtable]FOR UPDATEASdeclare @key as intIF UPDATE (memnum)select @key = recid from insertedUPDATE dd_testtable set igproc=1 where recid=@keyThis seems to work, but I'd like to know if there's a better way ofretrieving the recid value of the changed row to pass to the UPDATEstatement? Also, I read somewhere in passing that using SELECTstatements and variable assignments within triggers can cause problemswhen called from other applications; in this case it will either be aweb site using ASP.or an application developed in FOXPRO. I can't findwhere I read this originally, so it's entirely possible I imagined itor misunderstood it, but I'd very much appreciate it if someone couldconfirm whether or not this is the case? Many, many thanks in advance!Much warmth,Murray

Help: How To Detect Inserts, Updates, Deleted On A Table From Within C++ Application?

Jul 20, 2005

Hopefully someone can at least point me in the right direction for moreresearch (e.g.: correct terminology). My only previous experience was justdumping data into a database using ODBC, and that was some years ago so nowmostly forgotten.I need to write an NT Service/Application (in C/C++) that will be gettingdata sent to it via SQL Server 2000. The data will arrive in my SQL Server(read-only access), via replication of tables from another remote SQLServer. My application needs know when new row are inserted, or updated so it can toread this data (needs to be quick/timely so hopefully no polling) to theninterface with other remote proprietary systems.T.I.A.PS: If you can recommend appropriate books on SQL Server 2000 that wouldalso be useful.
