SQLServer Datetime - Storing It As Time Only

Mar 4, 2007

Is there a way to store a time in the SQLServer database, without the date? (e.g. just simply "HH:MM" instead of "HH:MM DD/MM/YYYY" which it stores it in)

Storing Just The Time In Sqlserver 2000

Dec 20, 2004

hi,
i would like to store just the time part in sqlserver 2000. time part with default date which is 1899 - 12- 30 in my sql server. but i read some articles which mentioned default date as 1900 - 01 - 01. i am not sure which one but if i enter just the time part in my sql server and do the query i get 1899 -12-30 and (time part). anyway, i am just wondering whether it is possible to set the trigger or constraints to strip off the date part of entered value and replacing it with default is ok.

the reason is i need to some queries on time part only which is giving some problem now.

Saving/Storing Time Only In Datetime

Mar 26, 2004

Hello all,

Perhaps someone out there could enlighten me on the issue of date/time (particularly time) storage.

I am trying to get the time component to be stored in a Datetime field. I can do a Date only as follows:

INSERT INTO Test ([DateTime])VALUES(Cast(convert(char(10),GETDATE(),102) as Datetime))

I attempted the following:

INSERT INTO Test ([DateTime])VALUES(Cast(convert(char(8),GETDATE(),108) as Datetime))

But I cannot get the time component without the default date 1/1/1900 component.

If any of you gurus out there can help me out it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Storing SSIS Packages Within SQLServer; Pros/cons

hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any pros/cons on storing SSIS (2005) packages within SQL Server 2005 SP2.
We're contemplating the migration/storage of a large number of packages, a minority of which designed in dts (SQLServer 2000) and using third party activx components.

thanks much for any feedback,

Problem With Storing Datetime Values In Formview

Jan 20, 2007

Hello all,I'm kind of new to ASP.NET and I've hit my first unsolvable roadblock. I'm trying to create a formview insertcommand that allows me to place the current date into a DateTime field but I continuously get  an Input string was not in a correct format error. I may be using the wrong functions, I'm unsure. I've messed with DateTime.Now.ToString() as well as GETDATE() but I have no idea how to get it to work. I've also tried to switch the variable type of the field to a String type as well as DateTime. I am running visual basic .net with Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Add Time To Datetime Value And Split Into Date And Time

Jun 12, 2007

Hi

i have the following situation. in my database i have a datetime field (dd/mm/yy hh:mms) and i also have a field timezone.

the timezone field has values in minutes that i should add to my datetime field so i have the actual time.

afterwards i split the datetime into date and time.

the last part i can accomplish (CONVERT (varchar, datetime, 103) as DATEVALUE and CONVERT (varchar, DATETIME, 108) as TIMEVALUE).

could anybody tell me how i can add the timezone value (in minutes) to my datetime value ?

i do all the calculations in my datasource (sql).

Thanks

Storing Time-series Data In SQL Server 2005

May 1, 2007

Hi all,

I'm wondering what is the best way to store time-series data in an SQL database?? I've done a bit of investigating on the rrdtool (round robin database tool) that is used in a lot of nix based solutions for monitoring network equipment. I have a need to collect performance data from servers and routers and then produces some nice graphs from that data. I'm just not sure who i should store that data without the database growing to some huge size.

Any suggestions?

How Do I Post The Currentdatetime (now) Into A DateTime Field In SQLserver Using A Formview?

Feb 27, 2006

How do I post the currentdatetime (now) into a DateTime field in SQLserver using a formview? I tried a couple different techniques, but had problems with both:
1. TRY ONE: I created a date time field on the SQL server named entrydate. I can not figure out how to post the current datetime into it, without the user inputting it into a field.

2. Second TRY: I tried to change the datetime field on the sql server to a datetime stamp field, but it puts in a binary value. Then I can't read it correctly, and my delete functions don't work.

Thanks Ed

Remove Time From DateTime

Jul 6, 2007

Hi all,
I am generating a report dynamically using ReportViewer control. I use a SELECT query to fill the dataset which in turn is used by the ReportViewer to display records. One of the fields is [End Date] and is a DateTime in SQL Server. When the ReportViewer is populated, the End Date field shows the time also with the date. How can I remove that time part? I have used these methods and I want to keep the value as DateTime only and not convert to a string or something.
These don't work for me: CAST(FLOOR(CAST(m.[End Date] AS float)) AS datetime)

DATEADD(day, DATEDIFF(day, '20000101', [End Date]), '20000101')

dateadd(day,datediff(day,0,[End Date]),0)

Please can someone help.
Thanks.

Get The Time From A DateTime Field

Apr 8, 2008

I looked at this post and it didn't work for me.

Trying to extract the time portion from a datetime field. ex  7:15:12 AM from    1/1/2008 7:15:12 aM
This is what I tried and neither functions give me the results I want....
 SELECT     DueTime, CONVERT(varchar, DueDate, 108) AS Expr1, SUBSTRING(CAST(DueDate AS varchar), 10, LEN(DueDate)) AS Expr2, CAST(DueDate AS varchar)                       AS Expr3FROM         TODO
Due Time                              Expr1                Expr2                         Expr3
1/1/2008 5:15:00 PM           00:00:00            12:00:00 AM              Jan 1 2008 12:00:00 AM
It seems Cast(DueDate as varchar) is the problem it converts the time to the default 12:00:00 AM
In the above example I want 5:15:00 PM

Tx in advance

Add Date Only To Time Only = Datetime ?

Dec 6, 2005

I have a field that contains only a date, and a field that only contains times. If I try to add the two together, I get some meaningless date like year 2111.

The raw data looks like this
EVT_DT='2005-12-05 00:00:00'
EVT_TM='2005-12-06 13:59:00' //today's date

I wrote a function that gives me the minutes past midnight for the EVT_TM
and use a dateadd(n,myMinutesFuntion(EVT_TM),EVT_DT), but it kills the performance in the nexted cursor.

Thanks,
Carl
