I am developping a non-managed C++ application for PocketPC using a SQL Server mobile database.
The application is compiled for PocketPC 2003 and uses SQL Server Mobile v2. I use Visual Studio 2005. But I need to compile the application for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. So I installed the WM5 SDK and had the WM5 into my project configuration.
The "ssceoledb.h" which I include incluses the "transact.h" file. But my problem is that this file is only provided with the PocketPC 2003 SDK and not in the WM5 SDK. So I cannot use the WM5 configuration project with SQL Server. I also tried with the last SQL Server Mobile 2005 (ie v3.0) and the "ssceoledb30.h" also includes "transact.h".
Did I miss something to install ? Do you know how I can resolve the problem ?
This is a great tutorial and it's a shame one of the more important steps was missed. In the €œCreate the snapshot user€? section you you find the steps to create the snapshot_agent account. Then in the €œCreate the snapshot folder€? section you find the share and folder permissions. However, at no point do the instructions advise you about adding the snapshot_agent to the SQL Server Logins. The result is that agent cannot perform the initial snapshot but you won't find this out until 50 steps later after Step 10 in the section €œCreate a new subscription".
To get back on track, openthe Object Explorer's Security section and add the snapshot_agent to your logins. Then using the "User Mappings", set an appropriate level for the SQLMobile database role. Once completed you then need to run the agent.
Right-click the SQLMobile publication you created and select "View Snapshot Agent status". From that dialog you can select "Start" to run the agent. When it completes, you can return to the tutorial section "Create a new subscription" and continue with the tutorial.
I am studying the tutorial in SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition Books Online, and the topic is Creating a Mobile Application with SQL Server Mobile. I have got a problem when creating a new subscription after created a new SQL Server Mobile database. And the problem is shown below:
New Subscription Wizard
- Beginning Synchronization (Success)
- Synchronizing Data (100%) (Error) Messages * Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not exist, access is denied because the IIS user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect. HRESULT 0x80004005 (29061)
* 無法完æˆ?作æ¥ã€‚
- Finalizing Synchronization (Stopped)
- Saving Subscription Properties (Stopped)
Before I have met this problem, I have finished all the task. And I can browse the localhost web site by using anonymous account even I use internet explorer or browse the directly in IIS.
I have a corrupt .sdf database sat on a SD Card but i am unable to find a way to repair it.
So far I have tried a few different methods, most of which just tell me what i already know i.e. "the database is corrupt and needs repairing!!"
I am unable to open the file in SSMS object browser (see above message) which means i cant run repair / shrink utilites. I am also unable to add the database to a vs2005 project (again see above message) meaning again i can't run any repair utilities.
I have also tried using the compact / Repair utility in Query analyser 3.0 on my Windows Mobile 5.0 PDA but once again i am greeted with an "error reading file - Run the Repair Utility" Message.
Lastly i've tried using the SQLCEengine.repair method and, depending on whether i do it on the PDA or on a desktop pc it throws the exceptions "Error occurred reading database file - run the repair utility"(PDA) or "invalid database type" (PC)
Can anyone shed any light as to whether there is another (easier???) way of doing this or if i just have to face it that this file is lost?
Thanks
ps. the code i used for the .repair is as below:
Dim conn As SqlCeEngine
Dim strdb As String
strdb = "SD CardPathnameDatabase.sdf"
conn = New SqlCeEngine(String.Format("Data Source={0}", strdb))
have SQL Server 2005 std edition SP1 installed on Windows 2003 Std edition .Configured Transactional (single Publisher and no clustered environment.) Replication past two months working fine, Now 1.Distrib.exe application err is coming.

I am geeting following error while trying to acquire db connection. I use sql server ce2.0 with vs2005 Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider
I am currently trying to replicate a SQL Mobile 2005 database with a SQL Server 2005 database through web synchronization using SSL Server AND Client Certificates. On IIS, with "Require Client Certificates" unchecked, I can replicate fine. Once I turn it on, I get a message from replication saying "A Secure Socket Layer connection is required to access this site". I have installed a client certificate in IE, and can access the https://servername/Ojt/sqlcesa30.dll site (I tried removing the client certificate, and I was denied access, then reinstalled it and it worked - so I think that part is working). Does anyone have any experience with this? My production operating environment requires client-side certificates.
On PC : Access application + Access DB On PocketPC : Embedded Visual Basic 3.0 application + PocketAccess DB
I synchronise my DBs through ActivSync.
It runs good before Windows Mobile 5.
My customers asked me for new PocketPC with this application, so I bought some new PocketPCs : but as I see, syncronisation with Access is no more supported.
So what are my solutions ?
My customer wait for there PocketPC, so I need a quick solution, I don't want to rewrite all my application now. My application run before WM5, so now I don't want to have to pay for a Visual Studio .Net, some SQL Server, etc ....
Please, what are the solutions that won't cost me more than the time that have already lost with this new Windows Mobile 5 ?
I am creating a mobile application in which i am implementing data synchronization through merge replication method as per the step by step procedure given in the following link:- http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms171908.aspx I am using SQL server Mobile Edition which is included in SQL server 2005 in this application, but the application suggests to use SQL server Compact Edition. I was able to successfully create the publication, but not able to run the sqlcesa30.dll file of the created virtual directory in the internet explorer. Is this problem because of i'm not using SQL server Compact Edition? and also let me know if i use SQL server Mobile Edition, do i need to install its Server Tools? If yes, please give me the link to download the tools needed. Reply Soon.
I am trying to build a simple mobile application. I am very new to this. Thus I am trying to access the build in database in the folder C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile EditionDeviceMobilev3.0Northwind.sdf. I am following the steps in the wizard to help me. When I press test connection is say Test Connection Succeeded. But when I press the ok button I get this error as "Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed". I am running VS 2005. Can anyone pls help ?
Hi there, i am building a mobile app using vs 2008, the app has about 8 - 12 forms that collect data.. i am thinking of
i am trying to decide how i want to save the temporary work data while the user fills the data collection forms.
when the user selects to create a new report, i will
create a new xml file... as user moves from form to form, i will update the file when the user has finished filling up all the data i will create a transaction and insert the data into the sql ce database and delete the file...
i will be using sql ce 3.5 i think it supports transactions i think it also supports identity.... i am using sql management studio 2005 standalone , so i cannot visually modify the 3.5 sdf.,..,. is there a tool for 2008 that will let me visually modify the table(s)? i dont want to use the 2008 feb community edition...
is there a better way to do this? should i skip the xml and go directly into sql ce insert (for the first record creation) and updates? i think this will be a performance killer on a win mob devilce (5.0)
p.s. i cannot store data in a class, and then commit the class to the transaction because if the application crashes i will loose class data, so xml file will be needed.,
Hi, I'm writing a windows application using VB.NET 2005 that must connect to Pocket PC via ActiveSync to read data from SQL Server CE. This is my code:
I've read that microsoft.applicationblocks.data for .net v2 can't be deployed to a mobile app, and my experience bears that out. So I 'm wondering if there are application blocks for windows mobile 5 that would know how to both talk to sql server mobile and sql server 2005. I see OpenNetCF has a port but as far as I can tell, they only address sql server mobile and not talking to a sql server 2005 remote database. I can use the OpenNetCF version for my sql server mobile requirements, but I'm hoping there is an encapsulation of sqlclient calls for communication with my server db.
I completed that example that I pasted in the subject part and when I try to synchronize my mobile database, the data from the server appear in my pocket pc; but when i refresh the data on my pocket pc they do not show on the server.
I know that with traditional SQL systems, it is important to only open connections to a sql server when they are needed. However, since there is no "server" in mobile apps, is it bad practice to leave one open throughout the duration of an application?
The application is going to be constantly reading and writing to the data tables and it seems like it might be a good idea to leave it open.
I want to manually install the database for the reference implementation (I have SQL 2005 Express when I installed the Factory, but AdventureWorksMobileStaging database is not installed in my sqlExpress, so i try to install manually in that database ) I have noticed a number of scripts under the AdventureWorksToGoDBScripts folder. Is there any specific order of installing those scripts?Any other things that need to be followed for getting the reference database up and running? Thanks in advance Varisai
Hi folks, I have an application designed in vb.net and it needs to Communicate with MS SQL 2005 database which resids on SERVER and The applicaton needs to run from Client PCs... When i install the Application on Server itself it works fine.... But when i Install it on any of the client Pcs it gives me the following error....
Unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly Microsoft.sqlserver.ConnectionInfo version 9.0.242.0 be installed in Global Assembly Cache (GAC) First.
hie, have a question. what tool is available to develop client/server application with db as ms sql server? is it only visual studio. for example: i was using oracle 9i db with 9i developer as a total package to build applications. very easy with creating update, delete or new forms. is it possible with visual studio or am i missing something? i need to feel comfortable since i know sql server but dont know what to use for developing application. many thanks, farouque
I am writing a Windows Application which will be used by about 100 clients. (NT Authenticated)
The application is going to be used in a LAN enviroment. User who have access will download a VB.NET application from a web site.
Of course, I want to prevent any of the 100 users from using a tool such as Query Analysis or ODBC to connect directly to the database and modify data.
So, it appears the way to go is to the "Application Roles". For this to work, the application roll password has to be saved in the application to execute the sp_setapprole procedure.
Is there a way to secure this password? I am worried about a user somehow extracting the password from the application and connecting directly.
Am I on the right track here? Any ideas appreciated!
I need to develop fro my customer a WinForm application which will display a list of report name available fro my customer, who will be free to select the desire report to print. For that I was previously using Crystal report but as now I am in an environment where report services is included and can be used I have decide to test it and see if it cover my customer need.
I have use reporting service in one of my customer project but by dircetly accessing it through the ReportServer default interface but never from a WinFrom application.
How can I implemented the connection to reporting service, accessing report template and have access to print function as well as export to different format in my application ?
Is there any step by step procedure somewhere ? could not found
I am currently modifying an existing application (which uses OLE DB Consumer Templates to access a remote SQL db) to utilize SQL Native Client instead. Does anyone have any experience making this change? Am I correct in my assumption that all I have to do is: change my included headers from 'sqloledb.h' to 'sqlncli.h' and change CLSID_SQLOLEDB to CLSID_SQLNCLI? I am still including the 'atldbcli.h' header and therefore still using the OLE DB Consumer Templates. Can I continue to use the Consumer Templates along with SQL Native Client?
I want to deploy my database application to my client's computer. My application uses SQL Server 2014. My client has to run that software on a single PC. I was looking to download a lightweight version of SQL Server that can fulfill my requirements, so when I was looking for SQL Server downloads, I saw these files there, which file should I use in my situation

Does anyone know how that I can get the reportbuilder.application to run on a client on the network. It seems that if I have to remote into the actual server to get the report builder to work would be pointless for users on the network. I get the 401 Unauthorized all the time. Any comments would help.
We have a small accounting application which is currently based using DBASE database. We need to change the DB and considering SQL Express. However, is some one can clarify following, it would be very helpful:
1) Application is used mostly by standalone non-technical users. There are cases where more than one user will need to connect to DB.
2) We need to ensure that user can not modify database outside of our application. This is needed to ensure database does not get currpted or passwords lost and then no one can open the database.
3) Installation needs to be simple without providing any options to users except where to install database or point to already installed DB in case its a network environment where 2-3 users can be working on the same database.
4) Application is usually installed on normal desktop machines. So, DB should not load the PC heavily.
Please advice if SQL Express is the right direction even with these constraints? What are the other alternatives? We are open to have a small consulting project as well with someone who can guide us through these issues. Email to contact is rkabra101@yahoo.com
How can I get the result stored in Inserted.ColName (by Output clause of insert command). In the documentation (BOL) for SQL 2005, there is written "returned to the processing application for use" in Output clause (first paragraph).
Question 2:
How to store Inserted.ColName into local variable when insert command is running in stored procedure.:

I got a merge replication published by my SQL Server 2005 and subscribed by my Pocket PC emulator having SQL Mobile. This works fine.
I've now developed my own class to handle my business logic according to MS specifications. Inherits from BusinessLogicModule in Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.BusinessLogicSupport.
I had by using the sp_registercustomresolver and sp_changemergearticle.
When I now try to synchronize from the emulator I get the error
Message: "A call to SQL Server Reconciler failed."
Native Error: 29006
Source: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition
Any ideas what has happened?
I also tryed to run the class in debug with my mobile app but same thing happens and it happens before any of my code runs.
Hi guys,I'm not sure if I'm just bad at googling but I can't seem to find a way to set an ASP.NET 2.0 web application to connect to SQL Server 2005 using the current client's user credentials. My web application is using Integrated Windows Authentication so its Page.User.Identity is set to a DOMAINusername value... I want to pass that to my connectionstring or have my connections pick up the identity automatically and use that Identity when accessing the db server.Oh and another thing, my IIS Application Pool is using a specific Identity itself, so I don't know if that might affect the above.Hope someone could help.
I have a procedure where after processing, i am required to send multiple message to calling application.
For ex:
create procedure test as (@a as int, @b as int @c as int ) /* some transformations */ print 'variable a is' + @a; print 'variable b is' + @b; print 'variable c is' + @c;
I am only providing a sample of return messages, but in reality there a lot more messages where a string and a parameter value need to concatenated.Unfortunately print is not allowing to concatenate parameter value.I can use RaiseError, but these messages are not really any error messages.
i tried to concatenate all message and output it using OUT type parameter, but the length of all messages combined exceeds 10000 characters.
Is there any other alternate to send these messages out to application?
