How do I set the default value of a SQLdatasource parameter to the current date-time
<asp:Parameter Name="original_lastsaved" Type="DateTime" defaultvalue="???"/>
The sql column field type is "datetime", so it will not accept a string

I would like to default my first parameter, which is year, to the current year. I'm querying against a cube. I've tried setting the default =Non-queried =year(today), tried a few MDX field names, and also tried setting the current year as the default in my data set. I can't seem to get the parameter to accept a default.

We manually update rows on the table via the GUI table interface in Enterprise Mgr., not in T-SQL.
What I'd like to do is have SQL Server automatically update the "Last_Modified" column with the current timestamp. I can do it on an Insert using the GetDate() function, but if I update a row, this doesn't work.
Is there a function I can use that can auto-populate for both insert and updates?

I tried to create parameters in my report. I need one date picker. So i select data type as datetime. in default values i selected as non-queried and in date time functions i selected =Today. But am unable to set current date. Please help me to solve it.

I have parameters in my report. The user can choose the year, month and date (3 parameters).
Now I want to set default vaules for the parameters , so that the user sees the report for example for the current day without selecting the parameters. I tried to set the type of the parameters to DateTime and the default value for example for the year to "=Today().Year" . But when I execute the report an error occures . Something like : no validValue for this parameter.
My Attributes for the year month and date are from an Analyis Services Cube from a Server Time dimension .
Does somebody know how to make it possible to set default values for this parameters?

Does somebody know how I can reduce the values for a parameter. For Example I have a parameter "year" from a server time dimension from a cube. The values which are available are "Year 2004", "Year 2005", "Year 2006", "Year 2007".
But I want that the user only can choose "Year 2006" or "Year 2007" ant not every Year or "All".
Or Other Example: The User should only choose a Date that is int the past or Today but not a Date in the future.

But now I want the start date parm to default to the first day of the current month and the end date parm to default to the last day of the current month.In the new query window in SQL Server Management Studio, I can run this chunk of code to get the first day of current month:

And this code to get the last day of current month:

But I don't know how to do this in SSRS 2008. How can I make my start / end parms to get these values.

I have a stored procedure that grabs the Region key from the user, and the date. But i want to set up 5 reports, for day of the week. So i want to make the second parameter a defualt parameter set by me in each report. which is better then having to create 5 stored procedures with the same info just different dates.
when i try to enter the same data i have in my stored procedure to get Mondays date, i get an error.
Here is what i entered in the report parameter default expression box for the date :
=DATEADD(dd, - 6, DATEADD(dd, 1 - DATEPART(w, GETDATE()), CONVERT(varchar, GETDATE(),
101))))
but i keep getting an error that says:
The Value expression for the report parameter €˜Daily_activity_statistics_datetime€™ contains an error: [BC30451] Name 'dd' is not declared.
Build complete -- 1 errors, 0 warnings
whats wrong with it? This works fine in the stored procedure for the where clause. Please help! this would save me alot of time.
Hi Guys. I am trying to insert the date as the default value into the DatePosted parameter in the sqldatasource object. I have put have the following below but it doesn't work. I have also tried <asp:Parameter Name="DatePosted" Type="DateTime" DefaultValue="<%= Date.Now %>" /> <asp:Parameter Name="DatePosted" Type="DateTime" DefaultValue="<%= now() %>" /> I know the solution is probably simple and I look like an idiot, but excuse me because I am very knew and fragile at this lol... any help would be great :). So I've created a dataset that will be the datasource for the dropdown displaying the available non-empty dates, which works fine.

It must be possible to add the place where they currently are working. Then the ExperienceUntil has to be something like still going on. Then I decided that the user then had to set the current date.
But what I want is the following, I want that the ExperienceUntil keeps updating automatically, like everytime i get that record, it has to have current date.
Is this possible ?
But if the ExperienceUntil isn't the current date , it just had to take the supplied parameter date.

Does anyone have a workaround or know of a fix to this problem:
Default value set to 'date pick' from date currently within field by setting value equal to that field . ie if date is 01/01/2010 date picker opens in Jan 2010 - works ok.
However, once published to Sharepoint and run through browser the Date Picker ignores the default value and the date picker opens for today. ie April 2008.

I want to run a select query on a SQL table where a field = the current user's Username. I cannot find any examples of doing this. I have managed to figure out how to retrieve the current user's username via the Membership.GetUser method, but I can't seem to figure out how to apply that to my SqlDataSource Control and get a valid response.

I need "conditional" cascading parameters: In Report Manager when one changes parameter 1, parameter 2 get changed based on parameter 1. Optionally, one can also enter values to parameter 2 directly.
I was able to achieve this in SSRS 2000 (SP2) with the following setups. SSRS 2005 and SP1 no longer works - Parameter 2 always shows its default value regardless whether one select a value in Parameter 1 or not.
Parameter 1
available values: from query
default values: non query (specify a value "<None>")
Parameter 2
available values: Non query (no value specified)
default values: from query (based on Parameter 1)
It seems to me that the default value in SSRS 2000 is considered as cascading parameter. But it is no longer the case in SSRS 2005.
Is this a SSRS 2005 bug? is there any other work arounds or suggestions?

Hi,How do I get hold of the HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name from within an sqldatasource? I want to create a WHERE clause that says WHERE UserName = @UserName and the @UserName parameter be filled with the current user name. I would be able to do this in code, but I don't know how to get at this information from within a datasource. At a guess I tried to use the Cookie option from the drop down list, and use the name of the FormsAuthentication Cookie, but this didn't work. Is there a way I can do this? If so how? I don't want to resort to using a hidden field or anything like that if I can help it. Many thanks, Steve

I have a table named "shift" and I need to setup my query to return only data where the field "startime" = today. The problem I am running into is the starttime field it laid out like "2005-12-29 14:00:00" with different time values. I need to ruturn everything that has todays date regardless of the time value. I tried using GetDate() but that is returning data for other days as well or just data before or after the current time. Does anyone have any suggestions? This is driving me crazy! Thanks, Garrett

I then have 2 report parameters to select 1) a date (datetime); and 2) a multivalue parameter to select one or all of the "units". I would like the second parameter to default to "Select All". Can someone tell me how to do this? I'm sure this is a fairly simple thing but I am really struggling. The report parameter is set as multivalue; My "available values" is set to "from query" and refers to my "unit" dataset and the value and label fields are set to "unit" (only field I bring into this particular dataset). The "Default Values" section is set to "from query" , the dataset is set to "unit" and the value is set to "unit". I can preview the report and select a date but the list of units comes up with all boxes unchecked, including "Select All". Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

the requirements are to return person ID with the most recent leaving date from a scheduled dept, who has previously arrived at an unscheduled dept within 7 days, but just now my query shows all the previous leaving dates within 7 days of that unscheduled dept arrival, I only want the last leaving date before the arrival at the unscheduled dept:

I have a the following date variables that's being set around the current date. how to adjust it to work around a date variable @Date instead of the current date?  Lets the @Date = 2015-06-30 then the it would adjust the variable below accordingly. I'm assuming the getdate()) needs to be replaced with @Date but I can't seem to get it to work.

I have specified a default database in my web.config like this:

</connectionStrings>
Now I would like to configure a SQLDataSource control to use this default database, yet it prompts me for a connectionstring. I know I can program it in the code behind file (if I ommit connection string, it will use the default), but then I can make no use of the wizard for configuring the SQLDataSource which would safe me a lot of coding.
Is there a way to configure the SQLDataSource to use the default database that is specified in the web.config?

I'm really new to Data Presentation Controls and I already hate them couse I think they are way too complicated. Becouse of that i have already met wall many times. My last one sounds like this.
I'm triing to put a default value from, lets say SqlDataSource1 in a DropDownList that is created by SqlDataSource2. I know how to get value from SqlDataSource1 but I don't know how to use exactly that value as my default value in DropDownList.
Two more question.
1. Is it possible to have two different select statements in a SqlDataSource?
2. A SqlDataSource may contain an insert statement, select statement, update and delete. If I bind this SqlDataSource to a control how can I specify which of those statements will be used?
