Hi folks
According to the book I am reading at the moment, there's supposed to be an SSIS documentation that ships with the product. I had the software installed by the IT guys but nothing with it apart from the books on line.
Does any one know of specific documentation on this?

i'm looking for a good method in order to document my ssis packages. i already tried this ssis documenter http://www.ssisdocumenter.com/ but was not very satisfied with it. what are your experiences with documenting ssis packages?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHi, I have heard alot of people talk about using C# for scripting withing SSIS and the answer to that question is no apparently. You can only use VBA but there is no extensive or in my respect any documentation as reference for using VBA in SSIS. I am new to VBA because i used to use jscipt and vbscript in early version of sql server. But in order to learn using VBA, I need to learn it in which there seems to be no reference in relation to SSIS. All the VBA references you find are in relation to MS Office. Is there anything i am missing or can someone show me where to go as my reference for VBA in SSIS. Its bad enough to change the scripting language but worse not to provide any reference materials for uses to get up to speed.

I have SSIS packages with the usual: source, destination, and mappings between the two. How can I export these mappings to, say, Excel / Word for documentation purposes?
Thanks.
I am sure this questions have been asked but i was not able to find a useful information.
1. I am looking for a SSIS Standards document or source. A document developer can use for developing ssis package. This should include how to name each container, task , and how to organize things. Basics of SSIS. Is there some kind of source where i can find this information . We are starting out to migrate from informatica to SSIS but before we do that we would like to put standards in place so all SSIS development is consistent.
2. SSIS project documentation template that we can use to document each project. Is there anything out there that we can follow to document each of our project.
Hello,
I have a little problem with SQL Server 2005. I have chosen the option "auto-increment" for a column which includes the primary key. Moreover, I turned the option "Ignore double values" on. I get the datasets from a SSIS-Import-project. Unfortunately, the ID is getting incremented even if there are double values.
For example:
The first entries in the table have the IDs: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Then I start the SSIS-project which tries to write the first 5 entries again in the database. Of course, the entries do not appear again in the db but a new entry gets the ID 11 instead of 6. Is there a setting, that the ID won't get incremented if there double values?
Thanks

Hello there.
I've just upgraded from using DTS to SSIS. I've run through a few tutorials and am starting to use to the new ways of working.
There are however two task that I'm not really sure how to tackle, can someone suggest the best method in SSIS.
1) The destination table has many FK's. I'd like the package to check that the input data does not violate the FK's and use a default value for the columns where a violation occurs.
2) I need to increment a value in the package as a source column for use as the Primary Key field in the destination insert. It would be an added bonus if I could find out the maximum key used in the destination table already so that I can set my counter for this field at that value + 1.

Can anyone help me figure out how to set up a new table using SSIS with a record field that will generate a unique number? The record number is also the primary key in the table. I did this about a year ago with a bit of help, but once you get the language right and initiate the creation, the text for defining the table is no longer available. I have seen a lot of references for MySQL and MS SQL 2000 and an AUTO_Generate or a UNIQUE ID. None of this works within MS SQL 2005 in SSIS.
Thanks!
Jim
In SSIS, I created a flow and within that flow i need to create an automatic number generator. The flow is simple: Ole db source part, a multicast part and a flat file destination and a ole db destination. In the Ole db source there is no field that is the starting point for this generator. This automatic nr should start with 10000 and each time a row is found it should be increased by 1.
First question: is it possible to create a column in SSIS flow which is the starting point for the generator (in this case 10000) or should it be created in the source table?
Second question: where in SSIS and with what component can i create such a generator??
Since upgrading from SQL Server Management Studio 2008 R2, I've noticed that it no longer autosaves queries that have not been manually saved first. If a file has been manually saved the autorecover files end up in the following directory:
%appdata%MicrosoftSQL Server Management Studio11.0AutoRecoverDatSolution1
However, I have ended up in the situation where I have unsaved queries when my computer has crashed and have not been able to recover them.
I have also found references to .sql files stored in temp files in the following directory, but the files here seem to be very haphazardly caught:
%userprofile%AppDataLocalTemp
I have an MS SQL Server table with a Job Number field I need this field to start at a certain number then auto increment from there. Is there a way to do this programatically or within MSDE?
Thanks, Justin.
What information should I be documenting about a server (SQL) and about the databases found on that server. I was task with this job. Please help.

I'd like to go through and document the databases I'm responsible for...it's probably a good practice and I'm sure there a several approaches to doing so.
Anybody have comments, recommendations, or possibly a nice word template that links everything up?
Thanks for the input.
Alex

I am looking for good utilities that document MS SQL table schema, indexes, layouts etc. I am currently looking at SQL auditor, but this product does not give me table schema or any kind of device revisions. I recently was given several SQL servers that have not been documented in any way.
thanks
ps SQL auditor gets a B+ in my book. Let me know what you think
Hallo !
Right now I am looking for the query-code to delete a table (not only the rows, but all of it). Somebody could give me the code?
In general I am always looking for a place on the web, where all sql-server 2005 (express) query-functions are explained. Somebody knows the right place?
Thank you very much!

Fabain
Can anyone advise me on what they regard as the best SQL Server documentation tool. I am currently looking at Redgate and ApexSQL products. Do any of you have experience with these or others? I need one that will document 2000 and 2005 databases.
Thanks.
I am documenting a database.
When I view dependencies on a table I can see a view- so I go to views and copy the information.
But when there is a trigger as a dependency- I cannot find where to go to view it.
Are triggers within stored procedures somewhere? Or do they have their own separate place somewhere?
As you can see- I don’t know much about SQL…
Thanks
The documentation saysISNUMERIC returns 1 when the input expression evaluates to a validinteger, floating point number, money or decimal type; otherwise itreturns 0. A return value of 1 guarantees that expression can beconverted to one of these numeric types.(Cut and pasted from books online)Yet the following, one of many, example shows this is not true.select isnumeric(char(9))select convert(int, char(9))-----------1(1 row(s) affected)Server: Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line 2Syntax error converting the varchar value '' to a column of data typeint. So, besides filtering every possible invalid character, how do youconvert dirty values without error. I am not concerned that I may loosepossibly valid values or convert suspect strings to 0 (zero). I justwant to run without raising an error

I do not find any document who cover the security from SQL Server 2005.
