SSIS - Excel Connection Error When Using Config Files

SQL Jobs Calling SSIS Packages Within MSDB Not Referencing Connection Info In Config Files

Nov 13, 2007

I have deployed to production a number of nested packages (parent packages that call child packages) to the SQL msdb via the Save As option rather than building a deployment utility. These packages reference configuration files in a static location off of the c: drive on the production server. In the development environment, when connection changes are made and I run the Reload with Upgrade option the connection manager takes on the new server and user id settings. However, out on the production side I get the following error from the SQL job log:

Cannot load the XML configuration file. The XML configuration file may be malformed or not valid.

As a result the SQL job uses the default connection information which references the development database rather than the production database. I did research the error but found no good solutions. Is there a way to ensure the configuration files are formed correctly and that the packages are correctly referencing the configuration files? We are trying to run the ETL updates via a SQL job.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

SSIS Connection Error When Using Config File

Dec 17, 2007

Hi

I am developing one SSIS package to migrate an Oracle Database to SQL Server 2005 DB through ODBC. My problem is with configuration. I have to use configuration file so that in production environment the end-user must be able to change the user credentials to connect both database servers. I am trying xml configuration file. When I try to use xml configuration, my odbc connection is giving error. But if I disable the configuration through "Package Configurations Organizer", it works fine. Using an XML Editor I checked the .dtsconfig file and entered both passwords for the both connections.

I tried logging and below are the few text from log file related to error.

Code Block
User:Diagnostic, Nebu, BLRDOMNebu, DestOdbcConnection,{E3535ED4-1D21-41B9-9796-E9F5B47FFD5B}, {6820E259-18FF-4FCA-B820-73EE931D2095},12/17/2007 8:16:39 PM,12/17/2007 8:16:39 PM,0,0x,ExternalRequest_pre: The object is ready to make the following external request: 'IDbConnection.Open'.

I am using Protection level = EncryptSensitiveWithPassword for the package.

Please help me.

Deployment Of SSIS With Config Files

Jul 12, 2007

I went through other threads and links on this subject. Still one thing which concerns me is the config files.

My current folder path is C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2

Under folder2 I have the following files

4 dtsx files
1 .database file
1 .dtproj file
1 .dtproj.user file
1 .sln file
1 .suo file

Config folder ( C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2Config)
common.dtsConfig
oracle.dtsConfig

Based on some of the threads, when I enabled package configuration, I changed the path from
C:Karunakaranfolder1folder2Configcommon.dtsconfig -> common.dtsconfig

Once I did this, when I open the project I get a dozen of warning similar to the one below

Warning loading <package1>.dtsx: Failed to load at least one of the configuration entries for the package. Check configurations entries and previous warnings to see descriptions of which configuration failed.

What am I doing wrong here? If I have to deploy this to another box, what should I do to ensure that nothing breaks once its copied / installed?

Thanks

Reporting Services :: Missing SSIS Extension In Config Files?

Oct 15, 2010

in order to use an SSIS package as a data source in a report, I need to enable the SSIS extension in the RSReprotDesigner.config and RSReportServer.config files.  That extension is in neither of these files. I have SSIS running on my machine with Reporting Services.

Dynamic Database Connection In SSIS Without Using A Config File

May 1, 2008

I'm a newbie to SSIS so this question may cause people to point and laugh. I apologise if that's the case.

I have a configuration database that holds connection details to a remote database. I want to use these connection details to dynamically create a new connection to some remote database.

I usually work in with C# where this would be simple but I can't find how to do this using SSIS.

I have found people using configuration files but as I already have my connection data in a table I don't really want to strip it out. (Also, is it a security risk to have database connection strings stored in a config file?)

I have been able to implement a custom script object to build the connection string and assign it to a user variable within the package but can't find any way to then use that variable to connect to the remote database.

Can anyone help?

Config File Already Exists Error While Building SSIS Package

Using SSIS To Generate Multiple Excel Files

Apr 24, 2007

Hello all,

I'm new to SSIS and have a question about the best way to generate multiple Excel files with my current package design. I have a stored procedure that I run from an Execute SQL Task in a foreach loop container, and it generates results as appropriate for each of the parameters it loops through.

What's the best way to take the result set from each of those executions and generate an Excel file from each set? How do I map that result set variable to be the input for creating a new Excel file? Is this best done as a script task somehow?

Should I not be using SSIS for this task? I thought I would just create a package and schedule it to run daily with SQL Agent, and it would autogenerate the Excel files as needed.

Thanks for your advice!

Integration Services :: SSIS - How To Load 2 Different Excel Files To 2 Different Tables

Jul 29, 2015

I have 2 different excel files file1 and file2. file1 should be loaded to table1 and file2 should be loaded to table2. Both of the files will have 1 sheet inside. Do I need to create separate excel source for file1 and file2? I mean file1 in one excel source and that will be connecting to 1 execute sql task. file2 in other excel source and that will be connecting to another execute sql task. Is this the way I should proceed or is there any looping should be done?  I need to schedule this activity to run every week. So, I'll get new files every week with the same file names and sheet names. Do I need to consider anything for this requirement also?

I'm planning to do truncate and reload not an incremental load.

SSIS Export Wizard - Tmp Files And Connection Strings

Aug 15, 2006

Hi,

I have used the SSIS import/export wizard to create a transfer from one database to another.

Q1: Why are some files from this wizard stored in the the temp folder ?

Example: C:Documents and SettingspbhLocal SettingsTemp

This is extreemly unuseful when checking in the solution in tfs since these files will not be saved.

Q2: I have tried to move these files and manually edit the location for these file references in the dtsx package file. However: The connection string wants an absolute path for the files..

Example:

DTS:Name="ConnectionString">c: mp1EA.tmp

How can I refer to $project$ mp1ea.tmp, a relative path to the project directory instead?

Using excel connection to load data to SQL Server When I try doing this character data is loading as nulls, I have tried by putting IMEX=1 property in connection string and removing IMEX=1 property from connection string , in both cases it is showing nulls, in the data viewer which i have placed after Excel source. I have also tried using the OPENROWSET which for some reason does not create an adhoc connection. I also tried changing the Datatypes in the advanced editor which again throws error. For some reason SSIS excel connection reads only the first 8 rows and decides a datatype and rest showup NULL.

SQL Server Job Fails When SSIS Package Is Having Excel Connection On 64 Bit Machine

May 29, 2008

Hello,

I've SQL Server running on 64 bit. When I schedule a package to run every night which has excel data transformation, it fails. Initally I had a problem running through BIDS also but then I found in project properties you can switch this off by specifying property Run64BitRuntime by false. After going through some forums, many have suggested that when scheduling a package, modify the command arguments to run as 32bit runtime. These command argumnents can be generated from making use of tool DTExecUI.exe Even after using generated command arguments from this tool, it doesn't help.

Below is my command argument and the error message generated.

Excel Connection Error

Nov 5, 2007

Hi,
I am looping through excel files to import data into a sql server table.
Added a filename variable.
This variable gets set inside a foreach loop container.

In the Dataflow tab, there is a;
excel source
oledb source

In the design mode, there is an error icon (red circle with cross in it).
Can not acquire connection from connection manager.

In the connection manager, the excel connection file path is empty. It is empty because I think the variable should be assigned to it.
So when I ruun the ssis package I get this error:
The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "Excel Connection" failed with error code 0x.....

Any thoughts please?

Puzzled By Config Files

Jul 12, 2006

I created a package, created an XML Config file, created a deployment utility and then deployed to server. I scheduled it with agent and I get this error (changed the package name in the error to IMPORT to make it more readable):

Description: The configuration file name "C:Documents and SettingschrisMy DocumentsVisual Studio 2005ProjectsIMPORTIMPORTIMPORT.dtsConfig" is not valid. Check the configuration file name.  End Warning  Warning: 2006-07-12 13:11:39.96     Code: 0x80012059     Source: IMPORT      Description: Failed to load at least one of the configuration entries for the package. So basically its trying to point to a config file on my dev workstation.  When I created the deploy utility it created a config file in the Deployment directory with the Manifest and the package.  I installed from the deployment directory. When installing it asked where I wanted to install and I left it the default of "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackagesIMPORT" and if I look in that folder the IMPORT.dtsconfig is there.

Ideas of where I went wrong?  I want to make sure I understand the whole configuration file notion correctly as I am starting to roll a bunch of packages with config files out to production.  I've done the tutorial and thought it was straightforward and made sense.  I can fix it by editing the xml of the package and removing the line pointing to my dev box - just want to know what I am doing wrong :)

Config Files For .Net Code In Managed Sprocs

Oct 3, 2006

I have been attempting to create a managed stored procedure which calls a web service using WSE 3.0 for security.

It appears that the WSE-generated config file (or possibly the app.config file) is not accessible to the .Net code.

Is there a method for using config files with CLR managed sprocs?

Thanks,
Max

Excel Flat File Connection Manager Error.

Oct 2, 2006

Hi There

I am having some issues with dts packages i have migrated using the package migration wizard.

One of the connection managers points to an execl flat file source.

I have not altered anything after the package migration, the conenction manager is using Native OLE DBMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.

When i test the connection i get the following error :

"Test connection failed becuase of an error in initializing provider. Cannot start your application. The workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by anotehr user."

Ok i am 99% sure this file is not being accessed by another user, the rest of the error is greek to me. Looking on the net for this error it has to do with access database security and having to sertup htm pages for IIS, i cannot findanything on this error relating to ssis connection manager.

PLEASE HELP.

Thanx

Do SQL Server 2005/CLR Triggers Support .config Files?

Jun 5, 2006

Does anyone know if it's possible to use the standard .config file within a CLR Trigger to read properties via the System.Configuration namespace

I guess it's not possible because the CLR Trigger needs to be compiled as an assembly which is hosted by SQL Server

Thanks

Error Creating Mdf - Connection To SQL Server Files (*.mdf) Require SQL Express 2005 To....

Apr 11, 2006

Connection to SQL server files (*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to function properly.  please verify the installation of the component or download from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=49251

I AM GOING TO RIP MY HAIR OUT WITH THIS PROBLEM.  I have reinstalled both sql server express 2005 and VWD about 5 times with the same problem.  please, please, please someone throw me a bone here  and help me resolve this problem.
When I create a new EMPTY website and I rightclick on my website in the solution explorer and choose add item, I chooe SQL Database, I give it a name 'database.mdf' and click add.  I get the following message:
you are attempting to add a database to an asp.net application.  for a database to be gfenerally consumable in your site, it should be placed inside the 'app_data' folder.  would you like to place the database inside the 'app_data' folder?  I click YES (I know this message is normal)
then I get the following message:
Connection to SQL server files (*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to function properly.  please verify the installation of the component or download from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=49251
I can add anything else but this damn mdf file.
thanks for all your help in advance.
