SSIS Oracle --&&> SQL Server Import Fails

Sep 6, 2006

Im getting the following error when I try to export from Oracle 9i and import into SQL Server 2005 using Oracle and SQL OLE DB Provider's respectively.

Cannot retrieve the column code page infor from the OLE DB Provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property value will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

I know there is a way to change the property settings for the OLE DB Provider in the Data flow section of the development studio BUT ...

1) Is there a way to change this outside of the development studio?

2) I can't create the package to setup in the studio because even when I uncheck execute immediately and check save package, it still fails and never creates anything.

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks

SSIS Import With Excel Format Fails!

Dec 27, 2007

Hello,
I have the following scenario, and my main question is why Excel Formatted file errors out while TXT formatted file does not? Any workaround would be helpful, but I do want to avoid dtexec, and still want to manage it as SSIS.

MAIN ISSUES - permission issue & excel connection issue

SSIS Package Run Directly (not SQL Job, not automated)
* Every format and and folder location works!

Package Run under SQL JOB
TXT Format
A. Project Folder - GOOD
B. Client Folder - FAILS!
Conclusion - TXT Format works, but Client Folder does not have sufficient permission for PRODsvcSQLDMS

EXCEL Format
A. Project Folder - FAILS!
B. Client Folder - FAILS!
Conclusion - EXCEL Format DOES NOT work. Maybe SSIS Excel Connection Bug.

SQL Server Agent And X64 Using OraOLEDB.Oracle.1: Dtexec From Cmd Works, But Job Fails

Aug 16, 2007

I am extracting data from an Oracle database and have installed the latest x64 ODAC. When I run the 64 bit dtexec in cmd the package runs fine with no errors, but when creating and executing a SSIS job in the agent it fails. I've tried creating the job using CmdExec as well and I get the same errors:

The CmdExec job step uses the _exact_ same command as the one I execute successfully in cmd:
"c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /FILE "C:PackagesLoad Dimension Data.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW

I have managed to find two work arounds, but they are quite ugly:

1) Schedule the package execution using Windows Task Scheduler, basically create a bat file which runs the package.
2) Schedule the package in SQL Server agent, but as T-SQL script and use xp_cmdshell, i.e. EXEC xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /FILE "C:PackagesLoad Dimension Data.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW'

Both work and use the 64 bit dtexec. Not that elegant though..

CmdExec and the 32 bit version of dtexec works, but is not good enough for me since we bought new hardware and 64 bit software just to be able to address more memory. Has anyone managed to execute a SSIS package successfully using the agent and the 64 bit OraOLEDB.Oracle.1?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Btw, I am using Windows Server 2003 x64 and SQL Server with SP2.

Importing Data From Oracle 8i/9i To SQL Server 2005 Using SQL Server Import And Export Wizard (AKA DTS Wizard)

Oct 20, 2006

Hi All,

I have become frustrated and I am not finding the answers I expect.

Here's the gist, we support both Oracle and SQL for our product and we would like to migrate our Clients who are willing/requesting to go from Oracle to SQL. Seems easy enough.

So, I create a Database in SQL 2005, right click and select "Import Data", Source is Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and I setup my connection. so far so good.

I create my Destination for SQL Native Client to the Database that I plan on importing into. Still good

Next, I select "Copy data from one or more tables or views". I move on to the next screen and select all of the Objects from a Schema. These are Tables that only relate to our application or in other words, nothing Oracle System wise.

When I get to the end it progresses to about 20% and then throws this error about 300 or so times:

Could not connect source component.
Warning 0x80202066: Source - AM_ALERTS [1]: Cannot retrieve the column code page info from the OLE DB provider. If the component supports the "DefaultCodePage" property, the code page from that property will be used. Change the value of the property if the current string code page values are incorrect. If the component does not support the property, the code page from the component's locale ID will be used.

So, I'm thinking "Alright, we can search on this error and I'm sure there's an easy fix." I do some checking and indeed find out that there is a property setting called "AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage" in the OLEDB Data Source Properties. Great! I go back and look at the connection in the Import and .... there's nothing with that property!

Back to the drawing board. I Create a new SSIS package and figure out quickly that the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage is in there. I can transfter information from the Oracle Source Table to the SQL Server 2005 Destination Table, but it appears to be a one to one thing. Programming this, if I get it to work at all, will take me about 150 hours or so.

This make perfect sense if all you are doing is copying a few columns or maybe one or two objects, but I am talking about 600 + objects with upwards of 2 million rows of data in each!!

This generates 2 questions:
1. If the Import Data Wizard cannot handle this operation on the fly, then why can't the AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage property be shown as part of the connection
2. How do I create and SSIS Package that will copy all of the data from Oracle to SQL Server? The source tables have been created and have the same Schema and Object Names as the Source. I don't want to create a Data Flow Task 600 times.

Help!!!

Consuming Oracle (9G) In SSIS On X64 Server

Nov 25, 2007

Hi,

I believe this question has been covered quite a bit, but none the less I wanted to ask it as I still have no resolution at the moment. I am consuming a table from Oracle which has a data type of NUMBER. When I use a .Net Provider to consume the data, the SCALE defaults to 0 for these select columns and thus we lose any decimal point information for these columns. I have tried using both the .Net Provider and the .Net for OLEDB providers for ORACLE. Both seem to suffer from this. The SSIS server itself is a Win 03' server on x64 hardware architecture. Also, when trying to use the Oracle Provider for OLEDB it throws a design-time error stating "Error in Initializing Provider".

Thanks!

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS Package Fails Silently On Server But Works If Run Manually

Jul 7, 2015

I have two calls to stored procedures that in an SSIS package fails silently. They are simply not executed in production but works fine in test, nothing happens and the sql server agent reports that everything has gone just fine.

In test they have 1 server with db A and B. No issue here.

In prod they have 2 servers with db A and B. On server 1 sql server agent executes a job that includes an SSIS package that on server 2 runs a couple of sp's. That user is db owner on server 2 db B and yet nothing happens. The sp's are not executed.

If I in prod run the job manually then it works, but not when run with the sql server agent account that as said is even db owner.

Our biggest single problem we have currently is loading data from an Oracle server to our SQL server. It seems that we are idling alot and its not always running.

Recommendations For Oracle Access From SSIS 64-bit Server?

Dec 3, 2006

We're having issues with Microsoft's 64 bit Oracle OLE-DB driver... when we escalated to Microsoft PSS they recommended that we go with Oracle's OLE-DB driver since Microsoft's hasn't been modified in a few years.

I've seen a lot of differing opinions on this topic (almost everyone says do not use Oracle's driver) and am wondering if there's a definitive answer here.

SQL Server 2008 :: SSIS - How To Alert When Step Fails

Jun 12, 2015

I have a simple SSIS package that imports an Excel Spreadsheet into a table. The column heading got changed, so the package failed, as expected, but I would like an alert or some way to make the scheduled job show "failed". I tried putting an event handler on the :Data Flow" step to send an email, but it didn't work.

I would like to figure out the event handler problem, but more important to have the job show as failed.

For some reason the Scheduled job shows "success" even though the SSIS package failed. A better solution is to make the scheduled job itself fail, based on the package failing.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: SSIS Job Fails For No Reason

Aug 11, 2015

I have a job that runs an SSIS package. The job seems to be able to run through the package successfully, but at the end it errors out saying "The binary code for the script is not found. ...". The script referred to is at the beginning part (not the very first step) and should already be run.

The thing is, I can manually run this package on the server or visual studio without any problem. Also this job has been run on a regular basis without any issues on our old SQL 2008. I'm migrating this to Amazon Cloud SQL 2014.

Together with this package are other two very similar ones. They all work fine. I just can't figure out what can be wrong with this one.

SQL Server Agent Fails SSIS Package Execution At The End.

Oct 1, 2007

I have an SSIS ETL Package that runs perfectly in debugger.

It is saved to the local SQL Server using "rely on server security".

The SQL Server Agent job runs at night and the job fails right at the last step. It is actually loading the data, because I write a record with row counts to an audit table, and they are successfully incrementing.

The real issue to me is that it is failing randomly, sometimes it will run 7 times then fail once, others it will go 2 or 3 days then fail. The job runs at the same time every night, and takes within a minute or two variance.

I've looked at the logs, and done a trace, and I can't seem to find anything that would cause the failure. The closest thing to an error is a join parameter note in the trace that's on tthe MSDB database.

Not a lot to work with, I know... but does anybody have any advice for me? Thank you in advance!

Executing SSIS Package Through SQL Server Agent Fails

Nov 28, 2007

Hello,

I try to run a job from SQL Server Agent to execute an SSIS package, but it always fails. However, if I execute the SSIS package directly, it will succeed.

The SQL Agent Job History shows "Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: Error authenticating proxy DB1DB1_CREDENTIAL, system error: Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password.). The step failed."

P.S. DB1 is my server name, DB1_CREDENTIAL is the account creating the credential

The SQL Server Agent Error Log shows "[298] SQLServer Error: 22046, Impersonation error. [SQLSTATE 42000]"

I've created an account on OS and assigned it to a credential.
Then, I created a proxy with the credential and then created the SQL Server Agent job with that proxy.

P.S. My SSIS package protection level is created as "Rely on server storage and roles for access control", because if it is set as "Do not save any sensitive data", package execution will fail even I run it directly.

How can I successfully run SSIS package from SQL Server Agent?
Do I lose any setting steps?

Thanks for help.

SQL Server Job Fails When SSIS Package Is Having Excel Connection On 64 Bit Machine

Hello,

I've SQL Server running on 64 bit. When I schedule a package to run every night which has excel data transformation, it fails. Initally I had a problem running through BIDS also but then I found in project properties you can switch this off by specifying property Run64BitRuntime by false. After going through some forums, many have suggested that when scheduling a package, modify the command arguments to run as 32bit runtime. These command argumnents can be generated from making use of tool DTExecUI.exe Even after using generated command arguments from this tool, it doesn't help.

Below is my command argument and the error message generated.

Connection To Oracle Fails When Using SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)

Jul 20, 2007

I'll say up front that this is going to be a long post because I plan on explaining my situation and what I've tried up front. It requires some explanation of how our application is secured since that appears to be interfering with SSIS being able to connect.

First the background scenario.

My company writes software that can use MS SQL or Oracle as the back end. I've begun work on an initiative to extract data to a star schema prior to purge in an attempt to improve reporting and analysis available to our customers. Initial plan is to use MS SQL Integration/Analysis/Reporting services for this. Even for our Oracle customers.

The problem symtoms.

I'm attempting to get a connection to Oracle with either an OLE DB or .Net provider. I've tried all available and get a ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed error on all of them. I validate that a development username and password work using both SQL*Plus and Toad so troubleshooting begins. After some research I find that if I change my line for SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES in my sqlnet.ora file on the server from NTS to NONE that I can now get a connection with the SSIS Connection Manager.

The problem is, our application is secure and having this value set to NONE will never happen in production. I don't use it in dev or qa either. I also found that once I set this to none I could no longer connect with integrated security (EXTERNAL in Oracle speak) with Toad.

How our application is secured and why.

When setting up our application with Oracle as the back end we create only two users. One is the schema and owns all objects. It can't even log into the server though. The other is an external user. This users only rights are to log on and membership in a role. The role can execute stored procedures and nothing more. The application server services for our software run under the username of the external user in Oracle. That way we can use integrated security and no usernames or passwords are hard coded anywhere. Using an external user allows us to have our Windows application server work correctly with Oracle regardless of the OS that is hosting Oracle. This has made it easy on my developers since they just code for using integrated security and we have nearly identical data abstraction layers for both MS SQL and Oracle.

I've tried using the Integrated Security = True option in the .Net provider and still get the same error. I've tried passing / as the username and get the same error. I have a regular Oracle username/password in dev and qa environments that I provide the developers. It has more rights that the external user the services runs under so they can investigate what is happening behind the scenes. It works with Toad and SQL*Plus. When I use it in SSIS CM I get the same error message.

How do you use integrated security with Oracle from SSIS? I don't want to have to tell my boss that SSIS won't work for our Oracle customers.

SSMA Fails To Migrate All Rows From Oracle

Jul 10, 2015

I have 53 tables I need to load from Oracle into SQL Server as part of a migration to a new system.  All but three of the tables load perfectly.  Three tables load approximately 95% of the rows.  The problem tables have between 300,000 and 1,300,000 rows.  Oddly some of the tables that migrate successfully have more than 10,000,000 rows. What to check to determine why these tables are failing to load?

SQL Server 2008 :: Using SSIS To Pull Oracle Data Into XML Field

Jul 1, 2015

We have a custom web C#/SQL2K8R2 workflow application that I need to pull Oracle data into a varchar(max) field as an XML DOM document. I have no problem pulling the Oracle data using OLEDB, but I'm not sure how to create the XML DOM doc. Once I get it into the DOM doc, I then need to assign metadata about the XML DOM doc and insert it all into a staging table:

CREATE TABLE [stg].[EtlImports](
[EtlImportId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[EtlSource] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[EtlType] [varchar](50) NULL,
[EtlDefn] [varchar](max) NULL, --Either a SQL statement or path to file on disk
[EtlData] [varchar](max) NULL, --BLOB field to hold the XML data or FILESTREAM path to file on disk
[EtlDateLanded] [datetime] NOT NULL,
[EtlDateProcessed] [datetime] NULL,
[EtlStatus] [varchar](50) NULL,
[Comments] [varchar](4000) NULL
) ON [PRIMARY] TEXTIMAGE_ON [PRIMARY]

I will have a separate SSIS package to pull the [XML/File] field and process the data into the workflow tables. Is there a wasy I can use the ADO Record-set Destination task to accomplish this, or do I have to create a custom C# script to create the XML DOM Doc?
