SSIS Package Designer Performance After Installing SP1

Hi,
When I installed SP1 on my SQL Server 2005, the performance of the package designer dropped enormously. I have to wait like 30 seconds after I drag-and-drop a datasource from the toolbox to the design area. Also it takes a very long time to run the very simple package. Not to mention opening some complicated package that was done before applying SP1. The package scheduled in SQL Agent went from 3-4min to 5-6min.
Can anyone address this issue? Maybe there's something I did wrong?
While installing SP1 I ecountered strange behaviour (some messages about file locking, rebooting and stuff), but in the end it said that it was successful

Our Visual Studio installation suddenly starting producing the error below upon trying to open any .dtsx package; although by "suddenly" I'm sure it was due to some Windows update or other program install, update, or uninstall. I've spent two days uninstalling, reinstalling, and repairing everything that is seemingly related to VS, but no luck. I've searched the forums and could not find this specific error mentioned, although I have tried some of the suggestions to fix possibly related 'class not registered' errors, but again no luck.

Has anybody seen this issue already?
If you try to "enable memory restriction" from the Lookup component GUI you need to input both 32 and 64 bit size of maximum memory. However when clicking "OK" on the editor you get a message like :

Hi,
I created procedure which completes execution in 20 mins in sql server 2005 but if i kept the same procedure in Execute SQL Task in SSIS and executing means, it is taking 3 hrs.
Is there any way to increase the performance for the above same.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi,
I have multiple data flow tasks defined in my package. The task of the package is to extract data from Oracle/InfoLease tables and put them on to a SQL Server 2005 database.
Listed below are few queries that I had:
1. In SSIS package, I need to add "Data Conversion" component to convert from Unicode string datatype to String datatype. This was not required in SQL Server 2000 DTS package.
2. By default, Individual transformation is created for each column. Is there a way, to create one transformation for all columns.
3. This SSIS package is being executed as part of a job. The execution time takes around 33 mins.
The same functionality of the SSIS package was replicated in form of SQL Server 2000- DTS package and was executed in form of a job. This execution got completed in 9 mins.
So there has been a drastic increase in job execution time. Are there any ways to increase performance.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

I would like to know if any one out there has the same performance issue with ssis packages once you move from a 2GB of RAM, 4 processors to a 16 GB of RAM with 8 processors. My SSIS packages performance is extreemly slow especially for one of my loading packages. The execution time for that package is almost double as compare to the execution time on the smaller box (2GB, 4 processor). There is no transformation for this package. It is just one lookup for existing or not and then do the insertion. This package is handling insertion of millions of rows.
The 2GB of RAM, 4 processor box is 32 bit with SP1 and the 16GB of RAM, 8 processors is 64 bit with SP2. However, I did try to force the execution of the package in 32 bit on the 64 bit server. The execution time is still the same as it is executed in 64 bit mode.
If any one out there has experienced the same thing and has known the cause to the problem, please let me know I would greatly appreciated.

I'm working on a fairly straight forward data transfer package and have found that the package runs dramatically faster when I run the package inside BIDS than with DTExec. When I run the package on the server using debug in BIDS, the job completes 1 million rows in around 6 minutes. When I run DTExec with the same package on the same server it is much slower and the package takes roughly 25 minutes to complete.
I know this sounds crazy and that it's supposed to be the other way around with DTExec running much faster, but I'm stumped as to what could be causing the issue. The machine this is running on is a two processor, dual core CPU with GB of RAM and I'm using terminal server to login and create the package with BIDS on SQL Server 2005 SP2.
The main feature of this package is a Foreach container that uses an ADO record set to loop over a set of values from a control table. There are a large number of iterations so the package loops frequently, but the data flow task is fairly simple and uses an OLEDB source and OLEDB destination to transfer data between two SQL Server 2005 databases.
The package works in either BIDS and DTExec, but I'm really puzzled why it would run so much faster inside BIDS?

While Creating a script task in Control Flow, I am getting "Package Validation Error". Here is the complete message:
Error at Validate File and Load Data: The task is configured to pre-compile the script, but binary code is not found. Please visit the IDE in Script Task Editor by clicking Design Script button to cause binary code to be generated.
(Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
As mentioned in the message, I opened the script IDE and added the code I need. When I close the VSA IDE, package designer displays the same error message.
The worst part of whole story is that if I close the package designer and reopen it, I find that all the code I wrote in the script task has been deleted by the package designer. This is not at all acceptable as I saved the package the and still lost all my work. I did all the coding from scratch for that task.
Please respond if anyone faced similar problem.

Hello,
After Having installed the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components necessary
to edit legacy DTS packages on 2005 server, I keep getting the following message when trying to open SQL Server 200 Enterprise Manager:
"The procedure entry point
?ProcessExecute@@YAXPAUHWND_@@PBG1@Z could not be located in teh dynamic link library SEMSFC.dll."
Is there a way to fix so that I can open Enterprise manager?

My SSIS package is running very slow taking so much time to execute, One task is taking 2hr for inserting 100k records, i have disabled unused index still it is taking time.I am rebuilding/Refreshing indexes and stats once in month if i try to execute on daily basis will it improve my SSIS Package performance?Â

Hi,
I have installed backward compatimility package and dts designer components on my computer wich run sql server 2005.
When i try to open a DTS package in management studio, It tries to install sql server 2000 and ask for sql2000.msi.
Does any one know how to fix this so i can edit dts packages in management studio 2005?

after installing the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Com feature pack and then restarting my management studio, I still cannot see or edit my dts packages. I also tried editing them in the integration services consule but no luck there. I see them under the msdb and have no option to edit them.
Has anyone got this utility to work?

We just did an in-place upgrade from sql2000EE to sql2005EE and I installed the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer componets but I don't see the option to schedule a package.

I created a DTS Package. It worked fine if I execute the DTS from DTS designer. It failed after I right clicked to Schedule Package, and than right clicked on the job to Start Job from Management - SQL Server Agnet - Jobs. When I clicked View Job History, the error was "The job failed. The last step to run was step 1 (DTSPackageName).
Why did it fail from scheduled DTS? Thanks.

I am not sure where to ask this question. So I figured here may be ok
I have several DTS 2000 packages and I have SQL 2005 installed on my local machine. However the rest of the company is still using SQL 2000 (for now). So I do not want to convert them to ssis yet. One of the things we just did to the packages is make all flat files use \localhost and any servers point to (local). Now in ssis this works fine but using the DTS 2000 package designer it does not like either of these at all. The reason we wanted to do this is so when we switch out servers there is no changes to our DTS packages.

I have an ActiveX task containing vbscript that when placed in a DTS package, will set all Connection and DataTransformation (DataPump) information correctly. Additionally, the package appears to work perfectly afterwards.
The Question:
Why when I go into the DTS Designer and open a transformation (Black Arrow) between connections - that I get the "Verifying Transformations" dialog with the three radio button options of "Remove Invalid transforamtions", "Change Source/Destination", and "Remove all transformations and redo auto-mapping"?
It appears that the SourceObjectName and SourceSQLStatements are getting correctly updated as well as the DestinationObjectName, etc.
Is there a property that is supposed to be set when I modify the source and destination properties in my code to prevent this dialog?

After fine-tuning my package logging, I built a query against SYSDTSLOG9 that uses the combination of the OnPreExecute events and any subsequent event for each task to build a nice view of a package in progress, including the duration of each event. (Running tasks would have a row with a NULL EndTime.)
When running the package within the Designer, everything works as expected. Events are logged at the task level and everything bubbles-up to the package level.
However, when I run the package from SQL Agent (using the SSIS job step), none of my OnPreExecute or sub-component events are written. That is, I only get package-level OnInformation, OnPostExecute and OnError events.
This means when the job/package is executing, I can't directly see which steps are currently in progress nor can I get a duration for each step once it's completed. This will be very disconcerting for my teammates who will have to help support this at some point.
Any idea how or why there would be a change in behavior between these two execution methods?

Hey, I've a few jobs which call SSIS packages. If I run the SSIS package, it runs fine but if I try to run the job which calls this package, it fails. Can someone help me troubleshoot this issue? None of my jobs that call an SSIS package work. All of them fail.

One of my user was able create DTS package using DTS Wizard, working from his workstation and saved this DTS in Legacy(in Data Transaformation services) on different SQL 2005 EE SP 2(9.0.3042) production server..
At same time he has no access to msdb on this SQL 2005 server(he also not sysadmin for this server).. How this could happen..??

Not quite sure if this is the right place for this comment...
While using SSIS Designer came across a DUE where the package was setup to:
SEQ1 - Truncate staging tables
SEQ2 - Load staging tables (sequence container had been setup to hold multiple data flows)
For some reason one data flow was run before the truncate table sequence.
Looking in the designer it appeared that the dataflow was a member of SEQ2 but looking at the Package Explorer it was outside the sequence container.
It would be good to have some visible indicator to show that a task is a member/not a member of a container

I have a script which grabs data from a source server. The problem is I have over 50 source servers, so I have to make a script for each one.. EXACTLY the same code but different linked server address.
So I was wondering if i can put the server name into a variable so I only need to make one script.

When I drop a new component onto the design surface, it appears with dotted lines around it, as it is selected.
But, the F2 key (the hotkey for rename) does not work.
I have to click on some other component, and then back on the new component, and then the F2 key works.
I remember reporting this bug back in the beta cycle, but it is still present even in the release -- I actually think Ã?'m using the SP1 version of 2005, but see version info below to be sure:
Remote terminal services broke my copy buffer again, as is so often does, so pasting in the version info failed -- falling back to manual typing -- SSIS 9.00.2047.00.

I am executing a single package that references 180 other packages , after executing the first 90-100 packages , SSIS designer completely freezes and then i have to kill the session using Task Manager . Is this a limitation of SSIS or is it a system constraint ?

Unlike SQL Server 2000 DTS, SSIS Flat File Connection Manager Editor does not provide available list of Text qualifier,
i tried

Hi,
In our project we have two SSIS package.
And there is a task (Execute SSIS package) in First package that calls the execution of second package.
I m continuously receiving an error "Failed to decrypt protected XML node "PackagePassword" with error 0x8009000B "Key not valid for use in specified state.". You may not be authorized to access this information. This error occurs when there is a cryptographic error. Verify that the correct key is available."
As we are running first package by job, job runs successfully logging above error
The protection level of second package is set to "EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey"
Can anybody please suggest how to handle it?
