They wre runnning fine until 4/21/2008 then all SSIS packages started to fail.
Simple SQL jobs are still running fine thouhgt and reporting success.
Unable to start execution of step 1 (reason: The SSIS subsystem failed to load [see the SQLAGENT.OUT file for details]; The job has been suspended). The step failed.

Hi SSIS Guru's,
I am facing a very strange problem.
We have 2 Physical Servers (A and B) on which we have installed the SQL Server, one primary (A) and other as secondary (B). And there is a cluster (C) available to acces the running server. I have created some SSIS packages which we installed on the Server A (Primary), and created the job on the cluster server which initiates the SSIS packages, whcih are installed in the File System.
The problem i am facing is the some thing related to Connection time out. And interestingly i am not getting this error Always. Approxiamtely For Every 5 Times once it;s Failing. I am copying the errors Which i encountered in the different runs.
The thing i am confused is why i am not geting the error all the time? And Why am i getting this error all the time in a different data flow task. My SSIS Package structure is I have created one master package and 6 Child packages. I am getting the connection string for the Data base from the Configuration file which is defined in the XML File.
The connection string that i am using is
Data Source=<<server name>>;User ID=DOMAINuser;Initial Catalog=DatabaseName;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;

I found a similar thread posted under the same title as this by dba123. Unfortunately, his solution does not match my problem.
I have a SSIS package that will run fine in debug mode, will run fine when published to the server when I right click and execute it. However, when I run it through a job, either scheduled or running the job manually, the job fails. There is an entry in the servers application log telling me that "login failed for user xxxxx" where xxxxx is the name of SQL login that I am using. I know that the login works (logged in manually to the server via management studio, and it runs fine when I run it manually). Both connection managers are SQL, no flat files or other data source types. All the commands are T-SQL. The SQL Agent has full database access to both servers that the connection manager connects to - and its NOT the profile that is reporting as failing - it is a domain account.
This is totally bizzare - ANY help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I have a problem with an Access db
connection in my package when run by SQL Agent. I have problem running a job with my package so i used the
log and found out that when i change the connection property of the
access connection manager in my package to a local Access file on my
machine, it works just fine but if i change the connection to that of
an Access db on my Y drive (which has been set up on my machine), it
doesnt execute. I checked the security property of the network folder
in which the access db exist and I do have rights. That is to
say, i dont know why it cannot access it then. The funny part is that
when i run the packae in SSIS (VS.NET) or Intergration services in
Managment studio, it runs just fine but when i execute the job through
Sql Server Agent, it generates the following error:

code 0xC0202009.
ocan_conn is the name of my connection object to the access db in my package.
Is there anything Im missing.

Starting saturday all of our SSIS packages on a server (64-bit) starting failing (hundreds of them) the error is:
Precompiled script failed to load. Attempting to reload the script with updated data. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article, KB931846 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=81885).
That Knowledgebase link talks about SP2 fixing the issue but we have SP2 already on the server. The sysdtslog90 table is just packed with these as each script inside each package is getting the same error. Looking at the system log the following were installed as part of windows update shortly before the errors started occuring:
- Update for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB936357)
- Security Update for Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition (KB926122)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0: x64 (KB928416)
- Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB928365)
- Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB936507)

I deployed my SSIS package to SQL Server 2005.
I have done the following:
1) Gave the sql agent account permissions to the msdb database and other databases
2) Checked the paths for "Data Sources" under properties of my agent in the SSIS properties
3) Set the authentification to Windows and used the sql agent account (a domain account that I setup) to run the agent. I also tried my login. So it's not a permission issue, because I do not get permission errors...it's past this.
What works:
1) Other SQL Agent packages...they are not running an SSIS package, just SQL
2) Running the SSiS package by right-clicking on it in Management Sudio. No errors found in the execution and the package does it's intended function
3) Package runs fine with absolutely no errors in VS 2005
What doesn't work:
1) My agent that points to my SSIS package. All this agent does is run that package. When I run the agent, I get a minimal error message in the job history logs stating the following error message:
03/09/2006 12:49:58,Run EN Process,Error,0,BG-22SQL,Run EN Process,(Job outcome),,The job failed. The Job was invoked by User domainmy_account. The last step to run was step 1 (Run EN SSIS Package).,00:00:02,0,0,,,,0

I'm having an issue in SQL Server 2005 with jobs that execute SSIS packages. The jobs run fine for a week or so, then I'll come to find that four or five (of the ten or so jobs) are hung in "executing" status. They seem to hang indefinitely (as some have been "executing" for hours with no end. The schedules of the hung jobs are all different, varying from every 10 minutes to nightly. The packages perform completely diffent tasks, as well. I can't seem to find any common thread with the jobs that get hung, other than they are all executing SSIS packages.
I've tried manually stopping the jobs and restarting the agent and SQL Server but the jobs hang again on there next scheduled run. The only thing that fixes the issue is rebooting the box, and then the jobs hang again in a week or so. Could some sort of memory leak be consuming resources throughout the week and be causing the jobs to eventually hang? I just rebooted the box and the sqlagent90.exe process is currently using about 7mb of memory. I'll keep an eye on it. Any other suggestions?
I've thought of creating another job that stops jobs that are hung, but what's to say that this job won't get hung as well? Plus this seems like a band-aid fix...
I don't recall having these problems until installing SQL Server 2005 SP2. Could this be related? I've searched like crazy and still can't find a resolution to this. It's becoming a big PITA...
Anyway, any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Hello!
I have SSIS Package that needs special permissions in network. I want to schedule SSIS running using SQL Agent. I don't want to other Jobs starts with special permissions. So, I decided to use proxy account to impersonate SSIS starting process by account with those permissions. I've perfomed following steps:
1. Create Login for the future proxy account and add it to sysadmins role.
2. Create Credential with account name and password information.
3. Create proxy account and give to it rights to run SSIS, CmdExec and ActiveX create.
4. Set Run as for step that starts my package to this proxy
5. Start my job.
and I receive error "Process couldnot be created for step 1 job xxx. Reason: 1314"
SQL Agent account and proxy accounts has also administrators rights on SQL Server computer and rights to login as service.
When I change step configuration to run as SQL Agent account job completes succesfull.
What do I do wrong?
Thx,
Olga

I need some help from you on a problem with SQL Server Agent that I believe many of you have experienced. When searching on the web I find some loose answers, but it would not solve my problems. So here is my story.
1. I have created two SSIS packages, package 1 and package 2. Both packages have a Execute SQL Task making a select sql statement to a table, say Customer in AdventureWorks DB. Package1 also makes a Execute Pacakge Task to Package 2. Both packages have protectionlevel property set to EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey
2. Then I created two package configuration files per package, one indirect xml configuration and one xml configuration file. The former I created an environment variable called pack1, which was specifying the path and file name of second config file. Likewise, I did for package2. Maybe I could have reused thie first configuration file, but I am not sure since package1 calls package2.
3. Now I build and deploy my packages. Then I run my manifest file, going through the deployment wizard setting the necceccary properties like server name, user, password, I have also create the same environment variables on the deployment machine. I ensure that the package1 and package2 can be run under integration services (file system). And both package works. So far so good
4. Now I want to create a SQL server agent job that runs package1 and package2. Here I found an article that decribed How to Schedule and Run a SSIS package ( DTS ) Job in SQL Server 2005 http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/Schedule__Run__SSIS__DTS.asp
5. I created a job executor account and then Create SQL proxy account and associate proxy account with job executor account as described. I created a new ssis job, specifying type ssis integration services, run as proxy, setting package source to SSIS package store, naming the server and package name (package2).
6. Now, I try running job1 which runs package2. ANd it works. I was aware if I needed to give file permission on users (read and execute) on my dtsx/dtsconfig/log files. So far so good
7. Now, I try to run job test which runs package1 (which also runs package2). But now the job fails :-(. The job runs for some seconds, but fails. I have to say that I have some script tasks with message boxes inside!!! hope this doesn't matter. I have created all neccessary accounts, proxies, credentials and so on. here is the view history

Hi All,
I have a requirement of logging the failure and the error of a job executing a SSIS package to text file.
However, when I go to job step -> Advanced, in the section "SQL Server
Integration Services Package" where that info to setup logging is, it
is blank and just says:
"There are no options for this command type"
Any ideas?
I thought that this might not be supported in Standard Edition as I am running standard edition. Then I checked on two other servers, where I have Enterprise edition with SP2. On one of the installations, I am able to give the log file, the other one still shows,
"There are no options for this command type"
What is the problem? Both of them I am using the sysadmin role account. I have proxy account created on both the SQL instances. I don't think this is the problem, but still I checked this.
Can anybody help me?
Regards,
Virendra

I have a ssis package that has multiple large lookups without memory restriction. When running the package manually from SSMS on the same server it runs on when running automatically under the job agent, the package errors out when the server memory gets depleted by the loading of the large lookup reference data. One of the messages I get is
"An out-of-memory condition prevented the creation of the buffer object. "
Anyway, the package runs successfully when it runs automatically under the job agent.
I was curious as to why the above happens. Is that a bug or is the run time behavior different under these 2 environments by design.

Hi,
I have stumbled on a problem with running a large number of SSIS packages in parallel, using the €śdtexec€? command from inside an SQL Server job.
I€™ve described the environment, the goal and the problem below. Sorry if it€™s a bit too long, but I tried to be as clear as possible.
The environment:
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition, SQL Server 2005 32bit Enterprise Edition SP2.
The goal:
We have a large number of text files that we€™re loading into a staging area of a data warehouse (based on SQL Server 2k5, as said above).
We have one €śmain€? SSIS package that takes a list of files to load from an XML file, loops through that list and for each file in the list starts an SSIS package by using €śdtexec€? command. The command is started asynchronously by using system.diagnostics.process.start() method. This means that a large number of SSIS packages are started in parallel. These packages perform the actual loading (with BULK insert).
I have successfully run the loading process from the command prompt (using the dtexec command to start the main package) a number of times.
In order to move the loading to a production environment and schedule it, we have set up an SQL Server Agent job. We€™ve created a proxy user with the necessary rights (the same user that runs the job from command prompt), created an the SQL Agent job (there is one step of type €ścmdexec€? that runs the €śmain€? SSIS package with the €śdtexec€? command).
If the input XML file for the main package contains a small number of files (for example 10), the SQL Server Agent job works fine €“ the SSIS packages are started in parallel and they finish work successfully.
The problem:
When the number of the concurrently started SSIS packages gets too big, the packages start to fail. When a large number of SSIS package executions are already taking place, the new dtexec commands fail after 0 seconds of work with an empty error message.
Please bear in mind that the same loading still works perfectly from command prompt on the same server with the same user. It only fails when run from the SQL Agent Job.
I€™ve tried to understand the limit, when do the packages start to fail, and I believe that the threshold is 80 parallel executions (I understand that it might not be desirable to start so many SSIS packages at once, but I€™d like to do it despite this).
Additional information:
The dtexec utility provides an error message where the package variables are shown and the fact that the package ran 0 seconds, but the €śMessage€? is empty (€śMessage: €ś).
Turning the logging on in all the packages does not provide an error message either, just a lot of run-time information.
The try-catch block around the process.start() script in the main package€™s script task also does not reveal any errors.
I€™ve increased the €śmax worker threads€? number for the cmdexec subsystem in the msdb.dbo.syssubsystems table to a safely high number and restarted the SQL Server, but this had no effect either.
The request:
Can anyone give ideas what could be the cause of the problem?
If you have any ideas about how to further debug the problem, they are also very welcome.
Thanks in advance!

I have a section of about 6 DTS packages that started failing recently. They all write to a network share using a UNC path. The failure coincides with a change to the account SQL Server and SQL Agent run under. I know security context is very important and I have verified the new service account they run under is a Domain account that can execute the DTS packages and has full permissions to the network share.
But when the Agent Job tries to run it fails everytime. Two of us have been looking at this and can't find the issue.
NOTE: I also made the service accout a Server Administrator (fixed server role) to make sure it wasn't a SQL permissions issue.
Anybody have any suggestions about where to look?

Hi,
I am having problems with an SSIS package whereby the first step of the package is failing. I am getting the following error message:
Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTPLocation".
This only happens when I use a Agent Proxy as the 'Run as' option. If I change it back to SQL Agent Service Account it works perfectly.
For the credentials of the proxy, I have used my own windows login as the identity. And I have full priveleges on the server, ie if I log on to the server I can successfully ftp to the same site and download the file without any problems. So shouldn't the Agent be able to do so too when it uses my credentials?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem where nothing seems to be wrong with the server, and SQL Server Agent is up and running, but jobs fail. We had a job run at midnight, and it was the last successful run. Every job failed after that, with an error stating "Unable to retrieve steps for job..." There doesn't seem to be any reason for the problem. The jobs were kicked off manually and they all ran.
The only other error messages we could find were in the Application Event Viewer on the server. But the first error happened days ago and said this: "The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( .NET Runtime ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Unable to open shim database version registry key - v2.0.50727.00000."
Since then, every few seconds this error occurred: "Windows cannot load extensible counter DLL MSSQLServerOLAPService, the first DWORD in data section is the Windows error code."
We turned off the performance monitor counters and that error stopped. But we still have no idea if that was the cause of the problem.
This isn't the first time we've had an issue with jobs failing because the steps couldn't be 'found', while SQL Server Agent was up and running.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks!

Hello:
I've created a package that runs fine from BIDS when logged in with my domain account. I have created a SQL Agent Proxy on the server with that same account. In the Job Step on the server, I edit the connection strings so that username and password is there for both my source Access connection and the destination SQL Server. Here is the connection string I create for MS Access:
Code SnippetData Source=\10.210.226.202OTM Reports for SymmetricsCDRD001.MDB;User ID=admin;Password=;Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;
Here is the error:
Code SnippetExecuted as user: DOMAINMRUSER. ethod call to the connection manager "MSAccessDB" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed. End Error Error: 2008-01-30 09:49:19.66 Code: 0xC0047017 Source: Cost DTS.Pipeline Description: component "Cost" (1) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C. End Error Error: 2008-01-30 09:49:19.66 Code: 0xC004700C Source: Cost DTS.Pipeline
I have tried with various settings in the package for "ProtectionLevel" such as "DontSaveSensitive" and "EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey". I would think that using my account with the proxy the last option would work when running it on the server, since it is essentially the same user running the package, but I'm new to playing with the proxy.
I tried using package configurations but got an error there too, think it couldn't access the file, event though it was on an accessible share--accessible to my account.
Any idea what might be happening here?
Thanks,
Kayda

Hi
I have created a package that extracts data from an Oracle 10g database into a database on SQL Server 2005 SP2.
This package run fine when run inside BIDS and also if run from DTExecUI or DTExec
(This is done while logged in using the same domain account that runs both the SQL Service and the SQL Agent Service. This account is also a local admin on the box.)
When I try to schedule this with SQL Server Agent (running under the SQL Agent Service Account) it returns an MSDAORA error
"Oracle client and network components were not found"
The same error occurs if I try to use CmdExe step to try and execute the DTExec command.
The interesting part however is that I use a lower privaleged proxy account then
(a) Executing the package directly still fails but
(b) Running a DTExec command will succed
Can anyone provide an explanation for this behaviour. While I can work around this "feature" by using the DTExec and a proxy account it does make the packages harder to configure/debug and defeats many of the configuration advantages provided by SSIS
TIA
Nadreck

Using SQL 2005, SSIS, I have an SSIS package which is scheduled as a SQL Server Agent job. The package contains a Send Mail task. This task fails when SQL Agent runs the package. The task succeeds when executed interactively from the package, logged on as the SQL Agent service account. The package as a whole succeeds when executed from "Start Debugging". An Execute SQL Task in the same package containing an sp_send_dbmail statement succeeds when SQL Agent runs the job, and the same sp_send_dbmail succeeds in Mgmt Studio query window. All these events all logged onto the server as the SQL Server/SQL Agent service account.
I would appreciate ideas on what else to check for here, so that I can use the Send Mail SSIS task in packages which are run by SQL Agent jobs.
Thanks, Holly

On Saturday we moved a few databases from SQL Server 2005 to a SQL Server 2012 cluster; and as expected some jobs have been failing because of this. The Job in Question executes two stored procedures and then an SSIS package; however when I ran the Job it failed with the error
Msg 7411, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Server 'servername' is not configured for RPC
I therefore configured the Server for RPC with the following script: -
exec sp_serveroption @server='servername', @optname='rpc', @optvalue='true'
GO
But the job failed again. So I therefore reran the script with the reconfigure option: -
exec sp_serveroption @server='OCELOT7CLUST', @optname='rpc', @optvalue='true'
GO
reconfigure with override
go
But again the job failed. I then closed SSMS and reopened it and attempt to run the job again and once again it failed. This is not an issue with the Linked Server as the linked Server is connecting as sa.

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.
Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.
When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.
I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.
I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.
I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.
Anybody got any idea on how to go about this?

We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.
SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.
We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.
One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.

Hi
For some reason and quite suddenly DTS packages fail to run via a job. I can run the packages manually though.
I get the error :
DTSRun: Cannot create COM Server to load and execute DTS Package. Error -2147221008 (800401F0): CoInitialize has not been called.
I cant find any reason why this would happen, as I cant find any thing that has changed

Hi All
I have a meaty job that currently runs as a set of sql scripts under sql agent and I'm transferring this job to run as a SSIS package. I have managed to set it up so that it runs as a sql job (cheers guys!), and I'm watching the job run now, maxing out the CPU usage as it tries to run 10 different tasks at the same time . great stuff!
However, I've been thinking about how to view the progress of this job/package (the job only has one step; "run SSIS package"). With the current job as single scripts, in SQL agent you can view which step of the job you are at.... is it possible to somehow view which package task you're at (ideally with nice shiny yellow green and red updates like in debugging), or do you have to output each step result into a log file?
Oh, and another question! If i have a checkpoint in a package, and the package falls over, when the job is rerun through SQL agent, will it start at the checkpoint, or run from the start?
Thanks!

There are two particular packages that always hang, alway in Agent but when i run them in BI IDE, they run just fine. Im was running them under in Agent under type= Sql server intergration services and also tried running under type = Operating System (CmdExec). Both types have the same problem. The packages hang. The log files dont say much, because the packages hang, no logging is doing so i dont get any infomation to determin what is going on. Can someone please help me ou.

Hi.
I have installed an SQL 2005 Failover Cluster on a Two Node Active Passive Windows 2003 Cluster. If i am trying to failover from the Active node to the passive Node,The Sql Server,Sql Server Agent and SQL Analysis resources fail,However if i reset the passowrd in the services tab of the above three services on the pasive node, the resources come online.
Below is the brief of my setup
1.I have two Active directory domain controllers running Windows 2003 R2 Standard edition with SP2.
2.i have installed a Windows 2003 Two Node Active Passive Cluster as NODE1 and NODE2.
3.The Domain account used to install WIndows 2003 A/P Cluster is Clusteradmin. This account is the member of Administartors on the Domain as well as the Local Admin on NODE1 and NODE2.
4.SQL 2005 with SP2 is installed on both the Nodes as SQL 2005 Failover Cluster. The account used to install SQL 2005 is sqadmin. This account is the member of Administartors on the domain and the member of Local Admins on NODE1 and NODE2.
5.SLQ 2005 has four domain groups for 4 SQL Services. The Services are SQL Server,SQL Server Agent,SLQ Anaylisis Server and Full text Search.
6.Each of these servcie has a seperate service account created for them. All these service accounts areb the members of domain admin and the member of Local Admin on NODE1 and NODE2.
7.Each of these servcies is running under these servcie accounts in the Servcies tab in NODE1 and NODE2.
8.If i fail the resources from NODE1 to NODE2 ,The SQL Server,SQL Server Agent and SQL Anaylisis resources are failing.on going to the service tab of NODE 2 I reset the password for these services, the services come online.
10.The Cluster resources and MSDTC Resources are Failing over successfully. They are coming online successfully.
11,I have a problem with the SQL Server Resources, even if i failback to NODE1 from NODE2,the same resources are failing again.
Plz Advice.

Hi:
I have scheduled a SQL JOB (SSIS Package), eventhough the validation comes back as success, the job actually fails. I have configured the job to write to Windows Application Log, but How do i configure the Step(SSIS Package) to write errors to windows application log. I would like to find out why its failing, and I cant seem to find it? I am guessing I would have to setup Logging - Windows Event Log, but how do I configure it, any advice would be helpful. thanks.

I have an SSIS package (TransAgentMaster) that I recently modified to include a call to a child package via the file system. The child package creates a text file. When I run the package in dev studio then the child package/text file is produced.
I then imported the TransAgentMaster as a stored packagesfilesystem package into SQL SSIS and executed the package. The child package produced the text file.
I then ran the SQL Server Agent to see if the child package would work and it did not generate the text file. Thus after updating a SSIS package importing the package into SSIS the job that calls the package will not call the child package. Please not that the TransAgentMaster package calls 7 children packages €¦ just not my new one.
Any thoughts why the agent will not run the child newly crated childe package?
