After:
If (Row.RegenerateXML_IsNull()) Then
Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML",System.DBNull.Value)
Else
Command.Parameters.AddWithValue("@RegenerateXML", Row.RegenerateXML)
End If
Which is great but it does turn 1 line into 5 lines. I have 20 parameters which takes up 20 lines of code which will now be 20 x 5 = 100 lines of code.
My question is :
Is there a better way to write this code without having to take up so many lines?
I am new to SSIS programming and trying to export data from a flatfile source to SQL server destination table dynamically. I need to get the table schema info (column length, data type etc.) from SQL server table and then map the source columns from flatfile to destination table columns.
I am referring to one of the programming samples from Microsoft and another excellent article by Moim Hossain. Can someone help me understand how to map the Source columns to destination table columns depending on table schema? Please help.
I am having a little problem with a simple package and I do not know if this is a known issue or that I am missing something.
I have a data flow task, a simple one, with an oledb source pulling data, using a select statement, from a sql server 2005 instance, and an ole db destination pointing to a table in a sql server 2000 instance. Both intances are standard edition. The table in the destination has a column which allow null values and has also a default constraint (getdate()), and this column is not present in the source. When I map the columns in the destination, I leave this column as "ignore", not being mapped to any column from the source. The problem is that when I execute the task, SSIS is trying to insert NULL value into this column, so the package fail with the error "can not insert NULL value into column myColumn". I wonder why is it trying to insert NULL value if the column is not mapped to any column from the source.
Is this a known issue or I am nissing something in the settings?
If the destination table has rowversion or identity columns, there is no problem ar all. I ignore those columns in the mapping and SQL Server feeds them as expected.
I want to copy 2 columns from 1 database to another database. I managed to do this, using a Ole DB source and a Ole DB destination dataset.
Now I want to merge 2 colums into 1: Source Database: Column A: first name, Column B: Lastname. Destination Database: Column 1: First and lastname customer.
I am trying to Import data into SQL server 2008 using management studio. The source data is an Access dbase. I am trying to do this with queries as the tables do not match but I do need to copy specific columns for the source to the destination. Any brief example selecting a column from the source table, and just entering a dummy value for other columns(other column of data for destination table does not exist in source table).
For the example
Source access dbase, just two columns but no primary key, T2dbase, Employee
I am a complete newbie to SSIS. I can create a simple package to transfer data between SQL instances and thats about it.
I have tableA (source data) and tableB (Destination data). TableA has 4 column and tableB has 5. I want to transfer all of the columns from tableA into TableB, but the 5th column in tableB needs to be populated with the ServerInstance name of the server TableA sits on. Do I need to have multiple data sources to achieve this? I have tried but no matter how I set it up, the Column in the destination is set to ignore.
I have an SSIS package which calls a web service and returns a Dataset object in the form of an xml file (it does this successfully - and stores it successfully).
The Data Flow then picks up the file using an xml source task (in which use inline schema is specified) , and passes it to an SQL Server Destination task - for bulk load.
I've checked the mappings and everything seems to be ok, the package gives no warnings or errors when run.
The destination table is created on the SQL Server without problem, but at that stage the task finishes "successfully", without actually loading any table rows into the destination table.
Also in the SQL Server Destination task - when I select "preview" in the connection manager section - I can see the column definitions, but again - no rows of data.
Thanks to Simon Sabin for pointing me here - I did post on the managed msdn newsgroups in sql server programming but have had no replies as yet.
Below is the beginning of the xml Dataset object which is output as an xml file for information. If you need any more information just let me know.
Not quite sure where i'm going wrong here - thanks in advance
I would like to replace data of some tables from STG to DEV database daily using SSIS package. Should I use "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" to do that? Thanks.
In the flat file SampleID and Product are populated in the first row only, rest of the rows only have values for Rep_Number, Protein, Fat, Solids.
SampleID and Product are blank for the rest of the rows. So my task is to fill those blank rows with the first row that has the sampleID and Product and load into the table.
I am copying a simple table from a Sql Server 2005 database to an *.sdf mobile database.
I am brand new to SSIS and I am probably doing something wrong. But after executing the SSIS package all the rows and all the fields are NULL in the destination database. I put a datagrid viewer between the OLE DB Source and the Sql Server compact edition destination and I can see the real data which is obviously not ALL NULL.
Does anyone have a clue as to why it would be doing this?
I am using SSIS 2014 and installed adapter for sharepoint list source and destination and when I refresh the toolbox I don't see them. Is there a way to manually add them?
I am trying to migrate database from old structure to new structure usign SSIS.
The table in new db have extra field that i need to assign it using variable. this is because i have few customer that having different variable value. (meaning for 1 customer, the variable will be fix for all the tables in the database)
my question, without using the Execute Sql Task, can i assign the variable into the the old db destination?
eg my data flow Task is : OLE Db Source - Derived Column - OLE DB Destination.
Example data
Old structure (key = txnID) --------------------- TxnID ChequeNo Bank (chq Bank - Bank in Bank) Amount
The only way to add a new column to an existing mapping that I know is to go to advanced editor and refresh. This however keeps only the default mapping (where the field names match), the rest is wiped out, so need to restore the mapping manually after that. Risky and annoying at the same time. Is there any alternative?
Firstly thanks a lot Phil and Jamie on such a helpful article on "Checking to see if a record exists and if so update else insert"
Here is my question
I have about 10 tables and there respective working tables For examples: A, B, C, D, E.... and WorkA, WorkB, WorkC....
Notes: 1) When I execute a package these work table (Work A, WorkB ...) get populated with certain rows say about 5 2) Its not that all the work table are populated on every execution. 3) Tables A, B, C... have thousands of records in it. 4) Work table is of same structure as there parent table..Like WorkA same structure as A..... 5) The table A and WorkA and as on... are linked with a KeyID
Now I want to build a SSIS package that can 1) Get the the data from these multiple tables(WorkA, WorkB...) 2) Process each row of these tables WorkA, WorkB.. 3) Depending upon the KEYID of WorkA., WorkB.. etc Update a Flag colunm of table A, B...where the KeyID is equal to KeyID of Work Table 4) After updating insert that processed row of Work A, WorkB ...into Table A, B..
I can do this if I have one source table and one destination table. Here i have some say 10 randomly source tables to respective random destination . All I could think of creating 10 different packages as adviced in Jamie's article. But I am sure there might some other alternative.
Can somebody advice me the best practice of doing this. Thanks a lot in advance
Background: After Insert Trigger runs a sproc that inserts values into another table IF items on the form were populated. THose all work great, but last scenario wont work: Creating a row insert based on Checking that all 22 other items from the prior insert (values of i.columns) were NULL:
IF EXISTS(select DISTINCT i.notes, i.M_Prior, i.M_Worksheet, ... from inserted i WHERE i.notes IS NOT NULL AND i.M_Prior = NULL AND i.M_Worksheet = NULL AND...)
I have a problem in that I execute the following code within a OLE DB Source to a SQL 2k database. The results are returned when I press the Preview button however when I open the Columns tab I do not get results returned.
As you will see from my code I have tried to use both a table var & # table both produce the same results.
-- Create temp table to hold Table data create table #TableList ( SQLInstanceName varchar(255) ,DatabaseName varchar(255) ,TableName varchar(255) )
-- Load list of databases from master into Cursor declare db_name_cursor insensitive cursor for select name from master..sysdatabases where name <> 'Tempdb' -- Exclude Tempdb
open db_name_cursor
fetch next from db_name_cursor into @l_db_name
While (@@fetch_status = 0) begin
-- Build select statment to be executed on each database. set @l_cmd = 'use ' + @l_db_name set @l_cmd = @l_cmd + ' insert into #TableList (SQLInstanceName,DatabaseName,TableName) ' set @l_cmd = @l_cmd + ' select @@servername SQLInstanceName,db_name(), name from sysobjects WHERE type = ''U'''
-- Exec the command exec (@l_cmd)
--print @l_cmd
fetch next from db_name_cursor into @l_db_name end
-- Clean up Cursor close db_name_cursor deallocate db_name_cursor
insert into @Result select *,getdate() RecordDate from #TableList
I'm trying to import some XLS files that I receive from some suppliers. The problem is that every time they send some columns with text values but formatted as number. When I read those columns with SSIS Excel Source, they come all with null values.
I don't want to change the columns data types every time, so I would like to know if there's a way to bypass the column types that are already there.
I tried to use both the Jet driver and the Office 12 driver. I've already used the IMEX=1 on ExtendedProperties too with no success. Is there a way to force reading the columns as text, even if they have data types assigned to them?
I need to see inside a SSIS 2012 project a new SSIS installed component, but in the SSDT 2010 I cannot see the SSIS Data Flow Items tab for adding data source/data destination respect to the choose toolbox items pane.
i was used the Follwing DataFlow for my Package.using Oracle 8i
FalteFile Source -------------> Data Conversion --------------->OLEDB Destination (Oracle Data table)
using above control flow to map the Source file to Destination . When i run the SSIS Package teh Folwing Error i got
"Truncation Occur maydue to inserting data from data flow column "columnName " with a length of 50 "
regarding this Error i i understood its for happening Data Length . so that i was changed the Source Column Length Exactly Match with the The Destination table.
still i am getting this Error. pls any one give me a solution . SHould i Change the DataType also?
I am using SSIS integration between two database. Both databases are sql server 2008. using many integration but getting problem in two only only two integration giving problem, both are executing perfectly and out put also not showing any error.
but destination table not inserted/updated anything.
first issue integration is using data flow task with oledb source and destination. second one is using execute task with for-eachloop container.
I'm using SSIS 2005 Enterprise edition, I'm creating a package that reads an excel (xls) file using the "excel source" component, and it dumps the data into an OLEDB destination (a sql server). When I drag the excel source component and create the excel connection to my file the component automatically reads the columns and their datatypes.
The problem is that I have a column which has numeric data and the package uploads as NULL every number that starts with a zero. (note: in excel this column is formatted as "text", despite it has only numbers, because it's the only way excel maintains the left sided zeros).
So I checked the data types by right clicking the excel source component -> show advanced editor and my surprise is that this column's data type is detected as double-precision float, and it doesn't let me change it. URL... but it only works when the first row of data has a number beginning with zero on this column. How to get the data imported correctly?
I am using a Excel Source to get the data from an excel file to sql server 2005 table. A couple columns are coming in a double precision float, but some values have characters in them, but those values are coming out as null, even though I changed the datatype from float to unicode string. Any inputs on resolving this will be much appreciated.
We have found that using the SSIS "Import and Export Wizard" using the "Microsoft Excel" data source that there appears to be a maximum column length of 255 characters for any row.
Even when defining the destination table columns as nvarchar(4000), the wizard fails with the errors shown below.
We have found no workaround except manually changing the imput data. There doesn't appear to be any "Advanced" options for the Excel importer as there are for the flat-text importer. So, no question here, just posting the bug so that *next* time someone searches the web for an answer, this post comes up

edit: After searching further this is documented under "Excel Source" in BOL which provides a registry-based workaround. I guess the issue is that the wizard considers truncation to be a 'fail' case and there's no easy way to override this behaviour, specify the column types nor determine which line is in error)
Truncated text. When the driver determines that an Excel column contains text data, the driver selects the data type (string or memo) based on the longest value that it samples. If the driver does not discover any values longer than 255 characters in the rows that it samples, it treats the column as a 255-character string column instead of a memo column. Therefore, values longer than 255 characters may be truncated. To import data from a memo column without truncation, you must make sure that the memo column in at least one of the sampled rows contains a value longer than 255 characters, or you must increase the number of rows sampled by the driver to include such a row. You can increase the number of rows sampled by increasing the value of TypeGuessRows under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesExcel registry key. )
I need help for SSIS Pacakge. using condtional Split How to insert One records with Multiple time depending on Source column value .Is there possible to wrtie the condition in Conditional split.
For Exmaple :
Source Table Name : tbl_source
following Column Name: col_Name1,Col_Name2,Col_Name3, col_Id,Col_Descrip
table contain only one records:GRD1,SRD1,FRD1,100,Product
I want Insert the Destiantion table the Follwing Condition. using Conditional Split.
1)Cond1 (!(ISNULL(GRD1))
2)Cond2 !(ISNULL(SRD1))
3)Cond3 !(ISNULL(FRD1))
I need the Following output
Destination Table Name : tbl _Dest(for One record in source table i need following records in destination)
Coulmn Name , Column Value , ID
Row 1 GRD GRD1 100
Row 2 SRD SRD1 100
Row 3 FRD FRD1 100
How to achieve this result. can u anyone help me.using Conditional split iam getting only first condition Result.
Running this code on my PC via VS 2005 .Net version 2.0.50727 on the server (shown in IIS) Code is in ASP.NET 2.0 and is a VB.NET Console application SSIS 2005
Problem & Info:
I am bringing in an Excel file. I need to first strip out any non-detail rows such as the breaks you see with totals and what not. I should in the end have only detail rows left before I start moving them into my SQL Table. I'm not sure how to first strip this information out in SSIS specfically how down to the right component and how to actually code the component to do this based on my Excel file here: http://www.webfound.net/excelfile.xls
Then, I assume I just use a Flat File Source coponent or something to actually take the columns in the Excel and split into an OLE DB Datasource to shove each column into a corresponding column in my SQL Server Table. I have used a Flat File Source in the past to do so with a comma delimited txt file but never tried with an Excel.
Desired Help:
How to perform
1) stripping out all undesired rows 2) importing each column into sql table
I get the following error on my OLE DB Destination: column"Oprcode" cannot convert between unicode & non-unicode string data type. Please Assist on what i should do!
My OLE DB Source and Excel desintation values all will be assigned during the run time but it does work during design time but as on runtime columns are different. That's why it does not work.
Here is what I want to accomplish, I have table which contains all my report which needs to dumped to excel at the month end.
SQL Task using ADO enumrator read one record(one report), Give that record to For Each contair which Create the Excel file on the fly using one of variable from my table and uses a stored procedure to dump data to excel using Dataflow Task.
Does it mean for 10 reports, I have to create 10 different data flow tasks, or it can be done using one data flow tasks but changing columns on the run time.
