SSIS And SAP BW Link - How To Call OLAP BAPI?

Feb 20, 2007

Hi,

I'm
trying to link SSIS (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services)
with an SAP Business Warehouse to extract data from a QueryCube. I'm thinking
about using the OLAP-BAPI but I don't know how to access it via SSIS.

Are there any ideas or comments how to accomplish this?

Thanks in advance!

SSIS And OLAP Cube DTS

I am having a problem creating an Integration Services package which executes an MDX query and place the results in a local DB.

I am using an OLE connection to connect to cube. However when I run the package I get the following error ....

[OLE DB Source [175]] Error: Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
AND
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "OLE DB Source" (175) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202025.

Accessing OLAP Data From SSIS

Feb 12, 2007

After reading some threads on this forum about accessing OLAP data from SSIS via an OLE DB Source component (and trying it myself and getting that "pcrsstore.cpp line 325" error), I have worked around the problem by using a Script Task component.

This calls a .NET assembly I wrote that uses ADOMD.NET to get at the data using an MDX query, and then actually posts an event to a Notification Services instance via a stored proc.

Writing, deploying, and maintaining a .NET assembly is more than I wanted to do, but it was worth the effort since now I know a little about extending SSIS when I need to.

But what I really wanted to do was the following, all from within the core components of SSIS:

Import my OLTP data into my relational warehouse (already done using SSIS)
Process the cube (already done using SSIS)
Access the cube via MDX and post an event to Notification Services
It's this last step that needed some special work because of SSIS's apparent limitation accessing cube data (although posting the event to NS would be easy because SSIS can call a stored proc on the NS application database).
So I'm hoping that a future release or service pack of SSIS will give us some components to run MDX and get the OLAP data into the pipeline as if it were from any other source.
Thanks for reading, and if anyone has any suggestions on a better way to achieve what I need please let me know!

Extracting Olap Data Into SQL Using SSIS

Apr 2, 2008

I am using data flow task. And data flow source uses ole db for olap 9.0 to connect my ssas. sql comment is my access mode. A mdx query extracts data. Data flow destination is sql server table. Error said Data Flow Task: OLE DB Source [579]: The output "OLE DB Source Output" (589) references an external data type that cannot be mapped to a Data Flow task data type. I guess it is a implicit data type convertion problem. But how to solve it???

I appreciate for all suggestion. Thanks.

Unable To Connect To OLAP Cube Through SSIS

May 21, 2008

I am trying to access Cube through SSIS and have been unable to set SSIS package with the work around provided here (https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=219068). On pasting the MDX query using the openrowset command on the OLEDB source editor, I get a pop up window with error 0x08000405 and the message that says 'syntax used for openrowset is incorrect'

I also tried running this on SQL Management studio but, get the following error.

OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "(null)" returned message "An error was encountered in the transport layer.".
OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "(null)" returned message "The peer prematurely closed the connection.".
Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSOLAP" for linked server "(null)".

The server where the cube resides is on 64bit machine and I have 32-bit..could this be the reason for the issue?

I found this article on microsoft support website (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947512 ) which describes the possible symptoms and causes for connectivity issues But, couldn't find a work around for it.

Here is the syntax of the query I am using in SSIS and query analyser

SELECT * FROM

OPENROWSET('MSOLAP', 'Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=True;Data Source=<SERVERNAME>; Initial Catalog=<Catalog name>;'
,

'MDX Query') AS Rowset_1

Any help with this issue is appreciated!

Thanks,

It runs SSIS packages, stored procedures fine. But when it comes to execute a command, reprocessing a Analysis Services cube it fails, saying the cube either not exists or the account has no rights. The cube does exist. If it's the account, how can I choose a different one or permit the one which is being used to execute reprocessing?

Copy An Olap Database To A Remote Server Using SSIS

May 2, 2008

How to add a task to copy an OLAP database to a remote Sql server in control flow using SSIS 2005? This OLAP database is existed in the remote server and I just want to replace the existing one with the one just been updated in the SSIS package and the last task in the package is to copy the updated OLAP database and replace the one at the remote server. Hopfully during the copy and paste process it will not screw up the reports that are using the OLAP cubes at the remote server as the report data source. Thanks.

Using SSIS Packages To Process SQL Server 2000 OLAP Objects

Nov 16, 2006

Can a SSIS server, i.e. staging server be used to create packages that update SQL Server 2000 Analysis services objects on another server running SQL server 2000 OLAP?

It appears that the OLAP connection manager ion SSIS supports only connections (and thus updates) to 2005 OLAP objects.  I work for a company that has a huge investment in a 3rd party DW that uses Analysis Services 2000.  the DW tool vendor will not support an upgrade to SSAS 2005.  We wish to extend the DW from other data sources.  My thought was to use a staging server with SSIS, used solely as the ETL tool for all new development (thus no more DTS development), and to update the sql server 2000 operational data store on another box.

I can find no documentation on how to process sql server 2000 analysis services objects from within an SSIS package.   Any ideas?

Is Sql 2005 Neeed To Call Ssis In C#

May 6, 2008

Hi All, Here is the scenario:

I have developed a basic SSIS package, SQL 2000 as db.We don't have SQL 2005 yet. I can run the package in the IDE. Is there a way that i can call this package in c#. I tried but it always says in compatible version. I am thinking i can not call an SSIS package in c# that connects to SQL 2000. So i have developed DTS package and was able to call the package in C#.

Is it necessary that i need SQL 2005 to call SSIS package in C# ?

Any input would be really helpfull.

Using Ssis Task To Call A Web Service

I got a connection a wsdl, i can configure the service, method and variables(i use fixed values), and i configure the output to a variable with the type object(i have tryed string and int)

I even can download the wsdl file, but the error seems to be in the connection

Call SSIS Remotely To Run Exe Task In Server By C#

Sep 15, 2007

I would like to build a C# program to connect to a remote SQL2005 server.
Then call the server SSIS to run a .exe in the server (The .exe file already exist in the SQL2005 server)

I have refer to the following webpage http://www.codeproject.com/useritems/CallSSISFromCSharp.asp
I can connect to the SQL server by the "LoadFromSqlServer" method with SQL server login A/C.

However, the SSIS failed. I believe it should be due to the window authentication issue. During SSIS execution, the SQL server login A/C does not have the access right to run the .exe file

Could anyone suggest the solution?

Thanks.

How To Call A SSIS Package With A Specific Parameter

Apr 2, 2008

I need to be able to call a SSIS package with a specific parameter for one of the variables. Basically the package needs to be triggered from an application (.NET, C#) with a specific value.

The package is stored in the SQL Server (in Stored packages).

I have seen the article on dtexec and the SET flag, however we do not want to turn on xp_cmdshell on the SQL server due to the security implications, and that seems to be the only way to call dtexec

I have seen another article that says you can have a job invoke a package then have a specific user granted permission to the job, but that doesn't address how to set the parameter/variable for the package.

There are actually some other steps that technically need to run using the same parameter, so ideally if I could have a stored procedure call the SSIS package, then the subsequent toher stored procedures using the sent in parameter that would be great. I just can't figure out how to do this securely (as xp_cmdshell is not considered secure).

Thanks for any comments.

Access2003 Cannot Link (but Excel2003 Can Link) To Tables In Access97 Database

Feb 20, 2008

I have created an Access2003 project (existing data) that links to external data. First I connected to a SQL Server 2000 database. Success. Then I tried to set up a Transact SQL data connection to a legacy MDW-secured Access97 database. (A third-party VB6 application goes against it, and we don't have the source code, so we cannot upgrade it.)

The Transact SQL link tests OK but I cannot select any of the tables or queries from the list presented. However, with the same credentials, I can use these same objects in Excel 2003.

When setting up the link in Access2003, I specify JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider, I enter the MDW file on the All tab, a username and a password on the Connection tab where I browse to the MDB file, and specify Shared Deny None on the Advanced tab. When I test the connection, it tests OK ("Test connection succeeded"). Yet on the "Select the Database and Table/Cube which contains the data you want" dialog, "(Default)" appears in the grayed-out dropdown. Then, beneath that dropdown, there is a grid with Name and Description columns. The grid contains query names but the grid is not enabled. The list of queries is this table is grayed out. Neither of the scrollbars works.

BUT... if I use the SAME username and password in Excel2003, and specify the same MDW, there is no problem working with these same database objects in the legacy Access97 database. WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE WIZARD IN EXCEL THAT ALLOWS IT TO SUCCEED AND THE WIZARD IN ACCESS THAT CAUSES IT TO FAIL HERE? In Excel, the list of available providers says Microsoft Access Driver, not JET 4.0 OLE DB Provider.

Thanks

Cannot Link To SQL Tables Using ODBC Link Table In Access 2003

Feb 3, 2006

When trying to link to an SQL table in Access 2003, the software appears to be malfunctioning.

The sequence of events is File - Get External Data - Link Tables - Files of Type: ODBC Databases().

The Problem: On two of my computers, the select data source window does not pop up, preventing me from linking to any ODBC data source.

Observations:  This function has worked normally in the recent past and works on other computers running Access 2003.  One difference between the computers working and non-working computers is Norton Antivirus 2006 (recent upgrade).

Has anyone experienced anything like this?  What's going on?
