SSIS: Encryption Not Supported On The Client

May 19, 2006

Using SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio, when I try to create a new OLEDB connection manager and I try to connect to the SQL 2005 DB, I get an error message saying that "Client is unable to establish connection Encryption not supported on the client"

This is ONLY in SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio!

If I connect to the same server using SQL Server Management Studio and using server type Integration Services, everything works just fine.

However this way I cannot create a working SSIS package from the client, if not working locally on the server, which is a bit nonsense.

Any suggestions?

Client Unable To Establish Connection Encryption Not Supported On SQL Server. (Microsoft SQL Native Client)

May 2, 2006

On Windows XP systems I get the following issue when trying to browse the MSDB folder in SSIS

Client unable to establish connection

I have noticed another post where several others have noticed the same issue. It appears to only occur on Windows XP installations. Is there a workaround or fix for this?

Accessing MSDB Shows Client Unable To Establish Connection... Encryption Not Supported Error

Nov 23, 2006

Hi,

I currently have SQL2005 Std, using 2 separate domain accounts for both SQL server and SQL agent. When accessing the MSDB stored packages folder from mgmt studio, I get the following error:

Client unable to establish connection.
Encryption not supported on SQL server.

I did google for this error, but have tried all suggestions, including updating the MsDtsSvr.ini.xml file with the servername. I am using a default instance.

Also, I am only able to access the MSDB folder if I set the SQL service account to the local admin account. I have also set the SQL service account to be part of the local admins group, but without any luck.

TIA.

'Use Encryption For Data' Is Not Supported

Sep 4, 2001

The error in the subject line "The property 'Use Encryption for Data' is not supported" is encountered when running a DTS package via a job step in SQL Server 7.0. The problem is not encountered when executing the DTS package interactively via Enterprise Manager from my PC. When I view the Advanced Properties of the OLE DB driver from Enterprise Manager on my PC, I notice a Use Encryption for Data Property. When I view the Advanced Properties of the OLE DB driver from Enterprise Manager on the Server, the Use Encryption for Data Property does not appear. Service Pack 3 for SQL 7.0 is installed on both my PC and on the SQL Server. I suspect this Property difference for OLE DB could be related to the fact that I installed Enterprise Manager for SQL 2000 on my PC at one time and then uninstalled. Any ideas how to correct this situation?

What Encryption (eg AES128) Standards Are Supported For SQL Server Compact 3.5 On WM5 And WM6?

Apr 15, 2008

I was told that AES 128/SHA1 is supported for SQL Server Compact 3.5. The problem is that I couldn't find any product literature from Microsoft that specifies exactly that and my client wants us to provide proof on that.

I hope to get the endorsement from the forum here, and it would be great if someone could point me to some Microsoft resources that specifies the support clearly.

Encryption And The Client

Sep 11, 2006

I have a basic understanding of the encryption using T-SQL, but is all of this at the T-SQL level? Like can a client have a certificate, be sent the encrypted value (that was encrypted on SQL Server), and using the same cert that is on the server decrypt the data?

Is there a good article/book that covered encryption in detail that you can suggest? Or is this something that you would build in .NET?

Force Protocol Encryption In SQL2005 Client Configuration Doesn't...

Feb 5, 2007

I am accessing a SQL2005 Express SP1 Server via TCP/IP (all machines fully up to date with windows update). For ease of configuration the Server IP is mapped to an Alias in Native Client Configuration Manager. On the Client Force Protocol Encryption is set to Yes and Trust Server Certificate is set to No. The clients are accessing the DB via SQL 2005 Management studio express and Ms Access 2003 (an access adp front end to the sql database).

As a test i turned off force encryption on the server. A Network trace shows no encryption! Turning on force encryption on the server corrects this.

As a further test I configured the server with a certificate the client doesn't trust. No error is generated by the un-trusted certificate! The only way to generate the certificate error is to enable encryption in the connection properties of each application. Why isn't the Native Client Configuration Manager utility enforcing this???

This brings me on to a second (off-topic problem). In my access adp file, if I enable €œuse encryption for data€? advanced option under the database connection dialog all works as expected (encryption + certificate verification). However, I am programmatically updating the connection in VBA

Application.CurrentProject.OpenConnection "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Data Source=AliasName;Use Encryption for Data=True;..."

If I do this no encryption is enabled!!! Access seems to just ignore the encryption statement.

Has anybody got any ideas as to why either of these issues are occurring or if there are any workarounds?

Thanks

Stuart

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Conversion Between Types Is Not Supported

Nov 18, 2014

As part of an ETL conversion I have dataflow task created that copies data from one table to another, we use it as a way to rename fields and change data types. What is strange is that the OLE DB SQL destination has not issue if I copy data from an int to smallint and in another case from an int to a numeric field and it runs fine. So I decided to test using a SQL Server Destination as I heard it may be faste that using OLE Db.

No I am getting the following error

Error: 0xC02020F5 at Insert into TRANSACTION, SQL Server Destination [32]: The column "ID" can't be inserted because the conversion between types DT_I4 and DT_NUMERIC is not supported.
Error: 0xC02020F5 at Insert into TRANSACTION, SQL Server Destination [32]: The column "ID1" can't be inserted because the conversion between types DT_I4 and DT_I2 is not supported.

I do understand the error but not why it runs fine using the OLE DB but when running it through SQL Server Destination I get this error.

SSIS And XML Schemas - Substitution Groups Not Supported

Feb 14, 2008

I'm looking at building an SSIS workflow to integrate new XML product data from our supplier (they're switching to XML instead of the Current MS Access database they use). They're using a schema based on the OAGIS structure. When I try to load a Data Flow Task with the XML file, to attempt to parse it, and I specify the XSD schema they have provided, SSIS errors out by telling me:

TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
------------------------------

Error at Data Flow Task [Data Import [1]]: The component "Data Import" (1) was unable to process the XML data. Substitution Groups not supported. See element "Dimensions" with "substitutionGroup=http://www.openapplications.org/oagis/9: Dimensions".

------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Pipeline component has returned HRESULT error code 0xC02092B0 from a method call. (Microsoft.SqlServer.DTSPipelineWrap)

Is there any way at all to get around this, or am I screwed? As I said, this data is provided to us by our supplier - we have no control over it, but I am looking to pull the data from XML and put it into a regular SQL table which I am in the process of defining - we have a large traffic e-commerce site and obviously cannot use XML as the "back-end".

Encryption In SSIS Package

Oct 27, 2006

1) We have OLTP DB on 2000 & OLAP DB on 2005.

2) We have decided to use SSIS for migration and interface is BIDS to develop, build, deploy & install SSIS packages.

3) We even have to encrypt some tables colmns data while reading from source so that it is secure in network and gets into target database as such requiring decryption for reports and front end display.

4) For database Security, we are going to use AES 256 Symmetric Encryption. We will be using RSA for Asymmetric Key Encryption, 1024 Bits.
Can you please give links on these 2 encryption mechanisms.

5) Where can we use Symmetric Encryption & Asymmetric Key Encryption i.e on columns of tables i.e. data or password & based on what do we decide which to use?

6) Please post links/code to generate these keys. Where do we fit this code in SSIS package & where do we use the keys. Can you give me code for keys fitted into
following query:

insert into EmpDest
select e.empno, e.ename, d.deptno, d.dname
from emp e, dept d
where e.deptno = d.deptno
go

Thanks in adavnce.

SQL Server 2005 Encryption And SSIS

Dec 21, 2007

Hi everyone! I have a problem and I was hoping someone could help me with it.

Here's my scenario:
I have to access to an intermediate SQL Server 2005 database, which I cannot change or alter. In this database is information that a I need to retrieve and put in our website database. One item of information is a persons SSN which is stored in a varbinary field and encrypted using a certificate.

In my Data Flow task which processes this information I am using an Ole Db Source to retrieve the information with the SQL Script:

SELECT
CAST(DecryptByCert(Cert_ID('Certificate_Name'), [IntermediateDB].[SSN]) AS VARCHAR) As SSN
FROM
[dbo].[IntermediateDB].[SSN]

BTW, This script runs fine from within SQL Server Management Studio. It decrypts the SSN to the appropriate value. However, when I run it in SSIS, I receive a truncation error which is no small surprise b/c the SSN value is in a large binary format. I.e:

0x55 0x56 0x69 0x99 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 ...

It goes on further, but for the sake of brevity and my own sanity I thought I should truncate it.

It seems like SSIS's use of the certificate is failing (although I don't get an error for that) and is simply pulling the encrypted SSN from the intermediate table.

So my first question would be, is this actually what's going awry? And secondly, is there a way to fix this without touching the source database??

Thanks! I greatly appreciate it! And Happy Holidays!

Derek

SQL Security :: Encryption 2005 - User Defined Function For Encryption And Decryption

Oct 7, 2015

I have created two user defined functions for encryption and decryption using passphrase mechanism. When I call encryption function, each time I am getting the different values for the same input. While I searching a particular value, it takes long time to retrieve due to calling decryption function for each row.

best way to encrypt and decrypt using user defined functions.Below is the query which is taking long time.

SELECT ID FROM table WITH (NOLOCK)
                     WHERE dbo.DecodeFunction(column) = 'value'

When I try to use symetric or asymetric encryption, I am not able to put "OPEN SYMETRIC KEY" code in a function. So, I am using PassPhrase mechanism.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Oracle on this server. I tried the 32bit Oracle Client as well as the 64bit client. I rebuilt the package to use Data Flow Tasks from scratch, and I have the same issues. If I try and build the package on the server itself in BIDS, I get TNS errors in BIDS trying to create connection managers. I am missing something, but I have no idea what it is. If I try and use a DataReader Source, I get:

System.InvalidOperationException: Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed. ---> System.BadImageFormatException: An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. It just doesn't add up. I get this exception with the 64 bit client installed. Anyone with ideas, I am getting near to the point of migrating backwards to 32 bit SQL on this server to be rid of this problem.

SSIS Packages Not Getting Executed From Client.

Oct 24, 2007

I migrated a few stored procedures from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005. When the packages are run from the box where the SSIS and SQL Server (Windows server) is installed it is running fine without any issues. When run from my local machine (client) where I have installed the SQL Server Client, the same package would not execute and gives me some weird error messages. I am a local admin on the box. Is this a issue with SSIS? Do we have to log onto the box (server) and then execute the packages?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks !

Invoke SSIS From Client-side Batchfile

Oct 9, 2007

Until now we worked with SQL Server 7.0, now we're migrating to SQL Server 2005.

With SQL Server 7.0 we had an MS Access application (located on a file server) used by several users, from which's form a batchfile (located on the same server) can be started. The Batchfile deletes an existing TXT-file called import_result.txt, then invokes a DTS-Package (located on a SQL Database server) which imports data to the Access-DB and creates a new file with the result of the DTS-execution (again called import_result.txt). Like that the user gets some information about success (or failure) of the data import.

How could this be implemented with SQL Server 2005 without having to install (and to licencse) SQL Express Engine on the clients? I found some threads about how to invoke an SQL Agent Job from the client to execute the SSIS-Package on the server, but I think that's not exactly what we need. Besides I'm not quite sure how exactly the SQL Agent Job could be invoked from Access.

Do you have any proposals?
Meicee

How Can Client Get Service Pack Of Ssis Installed On Server?

Apr 12, 2008

if we installed ssis on the same server much later than the engine itself, could it have been installed successfully at an earlier service pack than the engine? I did a select @@version on the engine and got

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

I cant see a way from the client to get a service pack on ssis itself. I'd like to be sure about a suggestion from one of your contributors before approaching our technical guys about their failure to install sp 2 of something.

Executing SSIS Packages From Client Machine Using SQL Express Engine

May 26, 2006

I have few DTSX packages on my SQL server 2005. These packages are supposed to transfer data and stored procedures from server to client Express engine. The scenario is that when user connects with the server he should run some kind of utility or any other way to run those SSIS packages so that the data could be transfered.

Remember the user machine has only SQL Express Engine and the packages are in SQL server 2005 machine.

Can any one help me out how to achive this scenario?

How Do I Do A Minimal Client Tool Install To Execute SSIS Packages

Jun 15, 2006

I am trying to migrate our processing from command line based scripts and foxpro to SQL so I need to run the SSIS packages using dtexec. I copied the dtexec file and a few dll's that are missing to our production servers but i cant execute the packages. I dont want to install the full client tools (particularly managment/business inteligence studio) on our production servers due to the overhead and limited system disk space.

Can somebody tell me what the minimum install would be so I would be able to run SSIS packages using the dtexec or dtexecui tools? I would also like to install some of the other command line client tools like osql etc.

SSIS-Analysis Services Processing Task- On Client Fails

May 14, 2008

I am trying to execute an SSIS package from a client that contains an Analysis Services Processing Task in the package. The client that does not have SSIS and SSAS installed. We are getting an error

The task "Analysis Services Processing Task" cannot run on this edition of Integration Services. It requires a higher level edition. The same package runs from a server that has both SSIS and SSAS installed. Let me know if someone has come across the same problem.

Thanks
