I have a stored procedure which when executed from management studio completes successfully.
If I invoke the stored procedure from SSIS which in turn is called from a SQL Server job the jobs runs indefnitely.
Now I wanted to see how far did it go in the execution of sp and I had some logging done at various places in stored procedure....It came till the RETURN 0 , the last statement of sp. The call to the SP is the last task in the SSIS package...So if the sp is alsmost completed and execute sql task is the last one in SSi, why is the job running indefinitely.
I created a SSIS package which loads CSV into database. The package is called in a C# console application which is set as scheduled task in a server. The problem I having is that the package hangs during validation stage: "Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column "Reading Type" with a length of 50 to database column "ReadingType" with a length of 2."There is no problem loading same data from development machine.
Hi I have a stored procedure in SQL Server 2005. It make a backup of a database and restores it to a different name.I use ASP.NET and Framework 1.1.It works really fine when I use SQL Server 2000. But!When trying to do the same thing on SQL Server 2005, the database seems to be created "half way" I can see that the database is created, but after the name is the text Restoring....It never finish restoring.... and nothing shows in the server logs. Any ideas?Differences between SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 that I must be aware of?Priviliges?ConnectionString parameters?Drivers? I'm using .NET Framework 1.1ODBC (SQL Native Client) Here is the Store procedure code:set ANSI_NULLS ON set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON go ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[CreateProjectDataBase] @AFModelDatabaseProject varchar(200), @TemplateDbBackupFileAndName varchar(200), @DatabaseName varchar(200), @DataFilePathAndName varchar(200), @LogFilePathAndName varchar(200) AS
BACKUP DATABASE @AFModelDatabaseProject TO DISK = @TemplateDbBackupFileAndName WITH INIT RESTORE DATABASE @DatabaseName FROM DISK = @TemplateDbBackupFileAndName WITH MOVE 'AdressTNG_Project_Data' TO @DataFilePathAndName, MOVE 'AdressTNG_Project_Log' TO @LogFilePathAndName
and here is how it is called from within .NET:this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.Parameters["@AFModelDatabaseProject"].Value = afModelDataBaseName;this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.Parameters["@TemplateDbBackupFileAndName"].Value = TemplateDbBackupFileAndName; this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.Parameters["@DatabaseName"].Value = dbName;this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.Parameters["@DataFilePathAndName"].Value = DataFilePathAndName; this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.Parameters["@LogFilePathAndName"].Value = LogFilePathAndName;this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.CommandText = "{ CALL CreateProjectDataBase(?,?,?,?,?) }"; this.odbcCreateDataBaseCommand.ExecuteNonQuery(); RegardsTomas
Periodically an INSERT query takes anywhere from 30 to 90 sec's to execute. But once it completes, execution times then return to 0 or 1 sec. This has begun to occur more and more frequently, typically every thirty minutes or so now. The only way I have found to clear the problem is to execute the INSERT from SQL Studio and just wait for it to complete. Then everything returns to normal, until it hangs again. The application that commands the INSERT can not be made to just wait for 90 seconds, so I need to know how to eliminate the intermittent delay. What could be causing this problem, and how can it be corrected?
I have a task thet writes to an Oracle database.It works correctly from my development machine, but when I run it from the SQL Server it hangs on "Execute". I installed the Oracle Client on the server and tested it by making an ODBC connection and testing the connection. The task sat on "Executing" for 6 hours before I manually stopped it. It should only take about 1 minute or less. There are no errors in the history log. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to determine why the task hangs on "Execute".
We have a problem with visual studio. It hangs when i use the "execute package" option. New packages are running correctly but the packages which i've already built are not executing anymore...Any ideas to get things on track again?
I want to achieve the following in (SSIS/SSDT for SQL 2012) -
I have a generic SSIS package which simply sends out email notifications using SMTP email task (this package is within its own project, and has project level input parameters).
I need to be able to call this package in the Event handler section of every package (numbering in about less than 60) that we have. These packages are within their own respective projects.
I thought I could use the "execute package task", but it turns out , using this, I cannot call a package that is part of some other project. I also cannot call a package that is stored in the CATALOG. Is there any way I can do this ?
When I call the child package , I should be able to send in parameters like - error information and package name of the Parent package.
I have a very simple SSIS package that executes a .bat file. Here's the actual file it executes:
@Echo Off c: F: cd ReportingServicesScripts rs -i NoteBlankSnapshots.rss -S http://10.90.160.13/ReportServerTest EXIT
The .bat file executes a Reporting Services .rss script using the rs.exe utility. When I run the command from the command prompt, it runs just fine. When I execute the .bat file manually, it runs and completes. When I execute the actual package, it also completes. But when I schedule the package as a job, it just hangs...it never finishes.
The owner of the job is an administrator in SQL Server. I have the SQL Server Agent configured to interact with the desktop - although my .bat file requires no input from the user.
I've created other jobs that just execute plain old SQL using the same owneer and these jobs complete just fine.

Hello everyone, I am having an odd behavior with an SSIS package that transfers data from one database to another. It seems to me that with some of the larger databases the services just stops working (0% utilization) when it is almost done. I don't get errors and the job stays in the "executing" state.
This doesn't happen always, but it will happen once the package is ran many times over the course of the week, I was wondering if you guys could point me in a direction on how I can find out the source of these hangs. Right now I am leaning towards it being a memory issue (or other misc. hardware problems) but I would like to rule out that it is software first.
I have two SSIS packages that I want to run in one SQL Agent job as two individual steps. The two packages run fine when they are in separate jobs. However, when I run the job conaining both SSIS packages (under the same proxy), the first SSIS package starts, but hangs in the middle.
I then tried setting the DelayValidation flag to True as suggested for a similar issue in another thread from this forum. After changing the DelayValidation flag to True for all containers and tasks on the second SSIS package, the first SSIS package ran completely through sucessfully, but the job continued executing for hours and the second SSIS package never started. I finally killed the job.
Any ideas as to what is the problem here? I have logged to the event viewer and see that the first package completes sucessfully. They run successfully in separate jobs, but I can not get them to run together within the same job without hanging.
I have a number of packages that I have moved from an old server. Each package was scheduled with a SQL Agent job. On the old server everything ran fine. All of the packages run fine from VS, from DTEXECUI and I have tried one from the command line with DTEXEC and it worked.
When I run from the SQL Agent job, I don't get a failure, the package just hangs. I let one of the agent jobs sit for an hour with no progress. The package typically takes about 15 minutes to complete.
Below is the output from my package log up to the point that it hangs:
Hi, we are writting a SQL Server Integration Services package to import data from a MySql database to a Sql Database.
We are using ODBC 3.51 Drivers to connect to the MySql Database in SSIS. The package runs perfectly in design mode. When we schedule the package to run, the package seems to hang about 1/3 of the times.
What can this be. We used to the package and ran it from a Sql Server 2005 to a Sql Server 2005 database. This setup works perfectly. When i'm doing MySql to Sql Server 2005, 1/3 of the times, it does not work.
When I push my SSIS packages up to my production server (which has a different data source than my developement environment) and I try to open the package on the production server, it takes forever for to validate all the steps of the SSIS package because it's trying to validate against a datasource that isnt there, so it just waits for each element it's validating to time out. This is exceptionally annoying.
Is there a way to turn off this validation 'feature'?
I have an SSIS package that inserts website URLs from a SQLServer table into a variable used by an HTTP Connection Manager, then downloads the data files from those URLs using a ForEach Loop and a Script Task. Works beautifully when a data file is found at the URL, but hangs if no data file is found. I've set the Timeout property on the HTTP Connection Manager to 30 seconds, but doesn't work. how to first check if a data file exists, of if the request returns nothing, or how to trap this situation in a try-catch?
Here is the VB code I'm using in the Script Task:
Public Sub Main() Try ' Connect to website using HTTP connection manager Dim nativeObject As Object = Dts.Connections("HTTP Connection Manager").AcquireConnection(Nothing) ' Create a new HTTP client connection Dim connection As New HttpClientConnection(nativeObject)
We're experiencing a problem where intermittently our SSIS packages will hang. There are no log errors or events in the event viewer. It will happen whether the package is executed from the SQL Job Agent or run from BIDs. When running from BIDs it appears to hang inside one of the data flows (several parallel pipes with sorts, merge joins etc...). It appears to hang in multiple pipes within the data flow component. The problem is reproducable, we just kill it and re-run, and it appears to hang in the same places.
Now here's the odd thing: as we simply open and close some of the components in the pipe line after the place it hangs, a subsequent run will go further in the pipeline before hanging. If we open and close all the components after the point it initially hung, the data flow will run fine, from there on out. When I say "open and close" I mean no changes are made, we simply double-click the component, like a merge join, then click 'close.'
To me this does not seem like a memory problem but likely something is wrong with the metadata, where opening a component and closing it somehow alters the metadata to "right it".
This seems to occur intermittently after we make modifications to the package. It's like if you make any mod, even unrelated to the data flow, you then have to go through and open and close every component in your package to ensure it will work. Again, no errors or warnings are fired.
Iam new to this DTS and SSIS...today only iam looking ata ascreen with DTS and SSIS for 1st time(so may be the words iam using may not be correct..pls adjust and help me...)...so please read and help me how to solve this....
I have 100 dataflows in my DTS....now we r following this code to execute the package....
package.Execute();
but it will all execute all the DTS at a time....
but my requirement is i have to execute each dataflow one by one and then if that particular flow is executed without erron then i need to log with something like <dataflowname> suceed ....else <dataflowname> not suceed and error is .....
for this i need to execute dataflow one by one...can any 1 help me pls...waiting for ur valuable reply...
I have a scenario where I am executing bunch of DTS packages from within an SSIS package. These packages are saved as structured files and everything works fine. However I am concerned about one thing which is whether these SSIS/DTS packges will run fine on my production server where I dont have any SQL SERVER 2000 /2005 installed , it just has SSIS installed on it. Appreciate all help.
Hi All, I've been assigned a task by one of the programmer in my team to create packages from some of the databases(One from SQL2005&Other one from SQLEXPRESS) I've created and saved the packages using the export wizard.I saved the Packages as Integration Services Packages(On file System). Now he wants me to execute the packages using SSIS But in different time,like maybe after 5min.Other package runs. I really have no clue how to do that,I've added Both packages in SSIS,But i really dont know how to run them in different time. If anyone could help please do so!
Hi All, I hav a strange problem. I created a SSIS package on my machine with protection level as "EncryptAllWithPassword".
When I deploy this package on a SQL Server on another machine (either in File System or SQL Server)and add it as a job in SQL Server Agent and try to run it through a scheduler or manually the job fails with the following message -
Executed as user:IBM-P4-1976SYSTEM. The package could not be loaded. The step failed.
However if I deploy it on my own machine the job runs successfully. Also if I run the package using dtexec utility on the another machine it runs successfully. It is not running as a job on another machine. All the logged in users have administrative rights. My databases are altogether on a different server.
Can any one help me out with this issue...Pleassssseeee...
Can someone tell me the best way to "automatically" execute a SSIS package. I have approximately 100 computers that I need to execute packages on. Here is the scenario:
I have some text files that are coming from our AS400 to a local computer (the package will NOT be used to bring files from our AS400. I will be using Client Access for that). The text files will be stored in a specified directory on the local computer. I will be importing these text files into a SQL Database on all 100 machines. Once I create the Import Package, what is the best way to execute this package on the devices?
I thought maybe after creating the package, I can put an EXE on the desktop that will execute the SSIS package. This way all I would have to do is click a icon on the desktop. I don't know if this is feasible or not. After building a package, do you make it a EXE or what? Pease advise. Thank in advance.
Based on the above article it seems its possible to run a DTS package on a SQL 2006 X64 machine.
Furthermore it seems possible that this package will run without any upgrade being performed to SSIS.
Also, to execute the DTS package in 32 bit mode, all I have to do is to set the job step type of SQL Agent to Operating system, and enter a command line or use a batch file that invokes the 32-bit version of dtexec.exe. You can use the dtexecui.exe utility to create the command line, and then copy and paste the command line into the job step.
Are the above deductions correct? Please let me know if some correction / refinement is needed.
First I explain my environment: - SSIS Packages are stored on 64bit Server (Win 2003 64bit, SQL 2005 64bit) - .NET (C#) application (on Win 2003 32bit Server) which loads and executes the SSIS Packages.
I can execute my SSIS Package localy on the 64bit Server and they work fine. When I execute the SSIS Package from the Application I get following exeption: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {697AC67E-FDD5-46D1-90D7-F3D0DF1B2A47} failed due to the following error: 80040154. ... at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package..ctor()
The code looks like: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package local_Package = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Package(); Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult local_DTSExecResult = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.DTSExecResult(); Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application local_Application = new Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Application();
Other question would be: how can I execute a package directly on the server?? I mean without "LoadPackage"?? I guess the problem on top is because on the 32bit Server there is only Framework installed but not Integration Services Tools ...
I have created a SSIS package in VS2005 to export data fom SQL Server2005 into Excel. The package works every single time I run it from the VS designer. When I run the package from a WinForms app using C# the result of the package is always 'Failure'.
I have seen the code on a number of different sites on how to do this and am very confident the code is correct. However, I cannot figure out why the package fails from my app as I am not getting back and error messages. Can anyone please shed some light on this for me?
I have created a SSIS package through SSIS Tool. Protection Level is 'EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey'. When I execute , it works fine.
I have written a code to execute SSIS package through .net application. When i try in my local PC. The package works fine.
When I deployed in Webserver, it throws an error,
DTS Package: Package1 failed. Error Details as follows. 1. Source : Execute SQL Task Description : Failed to acquire connection "DatabaseConnection ADO.NET". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
"DatabaseConnection ADO.NET". is a connection which is specified in the SSIS.
HI ALL. I HAVE A PACKAGES WHICH THEN EXECUTES CHILD PACKAGES. tHE CONNECTION managers are specified. and environmental variables are saved on xml file. when i run(debug) parent packages on BIS , it gives me error saying the "error loading package file "childpackage_name.dtsx1st ".the system canot find the file specified.
how ever if i build solution it gives me output saying build successful.. i do not ge this.. anyhelp guys.
I am trying to execute around 3 SSIS packages using Execute package task by having all the 3 in one SSIS package, I am getting the below error: Error: Error 0xC001000A while preparing to load the package. The specified package could not be loaded from the SQL Server database. .
Is it possible to execute an SSIS package from Linux? Before with 2005, we were able to execute a job that would execute the DTS, now we're trying to execute an SSIS package in 2005.

I have a parent package that calls a child package. When this is executed on SQL server (the actual server host SSIS services) it executes fine I can see data in the correct tables and I can determine that is ran. But I try to run this from my local pc within the designer (Visual Studios) and the parent package runs a few task that are before the child package task but once it gets to the child package it stops. I have set breakpoint on several task with the parent package and I can step thru them but once it gets to the child it tries to run it then the execute package task object turns red. I can not find any error messages or codes. I even have beak points set up on the child package itself and the process never hits those break points but I'm assuming is cause is puking before I get to the child package.
The child package is stored in SQL server and is in MSDB. I just want to debug the child packages from BIDS or visual studios?
any one know how to debug child packages from BIDS or Visual Studios? I can if I run the child package by itself but I need to test from end to end ....so within the parent packages which calls a few child packages..
I have been trying to get a clear explanation on what I need to do in order to be able to execute SSIS packages which I have located on an app server. Is it that I need integration services installed on the app server itself and thats it? Or can someone tell me if there is any more to it, thanks folks!
