We have a nice issue here. We are running SQL 2005 Dev edition Service Pack 2 and we are trying to copy the contents of one table in a local sql server database to another table in another database on the same local sql server. We use an oledb source and a sql server destination. The table structure is exactly the same. One column is of the datatype ntext, when we try to load the contents the package will stop with the error:

Removing the column from the sql server destination will result in loading the complete table. Using an oledb destination instead of sql server destination fixes the problem. Is this a bug in the SQL server destination component?
Hallo. I need help, how pull out some inquiry string from type "ntext" in MS SQL(it is xml document). Sring has invariable length, in note is always on other position and includes variable text (e.g .:<actionId>xx</actionId>) . Position I can find out by the help of "patindex" but I don't know what then. I tryed to write procedures, but I had trouble with declaration variables (data type). Thanks and sorry for my horrible English.
Hi, I have a table with ntext and image datatype. I did BCP out succesfully but when I try to to BCP in, I am getting error. ---------- Starting copy... SQLState = 22005, NativeError = 0 Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid character value for cast specification SQLState = 22005, NativeError = 0 Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Invalid character value for cast specification SQLState = 22005, NativeError = 0 ------------------ I read somewhere that I can use BULK INSERT with a format file. Can someone suggest how to BCP in siccesfully or How does the format file looks like for this kind of task?. I am using SQL Server 2000. --------- Here is my table structure.. ----------- CREATE TABLE [dbo].[NOTIFY_TEMPLATE] ( [ID] [numeric](28, 0) NOT NULL , [SENDER] [varchar] (128) NOT NULL , [SUBJECT] [varchar] (512) NOT NULL , [BODY] [ntext] NOT NULL , [PRIORITY] [numeric](28, 0) NULL DEFAULT (2), [ENABLED] [numeric](28, 0) NULL DEFAULT (1), [LANGID] [numeric](28, 0) NOT NULL DEFAULT (0), [NOTIFY_TYPE] [numeric](28, 0) NULL DEFAULT (0), [REQUEST_TYPE] [numeric](28, 0) NULL , [CUSTOMIZED] [numeric](28, 0) NOT NULL DEFAULT (0) ) ON [DATA1] TEXTIMAGE_ON [DATA1]
From the SQL Server documentation : "The input parameters and the type returned from a SVF can be any of the scalar data types supported by SQL Server, except rowversion, text, ntext, image, timestamp, table, or cursor"This is a problem for me. Here's what I'm trying to do :I have an NTEXT field in one of my tables. I want to run regular expressions on this field, and return the results from a stored procedure. Since SQL Server doesn't provide facilities to perform regular expressions, I need to use an SQLCLR function. I would have no problem doing this if my field was nvarchar. However, this field needs to be variable in length - I cannot set an upper bound. This is why I'm using NTEXT and not nvarchar in the first place. Is there a solution to this problem? I can't imagine that I'm the only person who wants to pass strings of arbitrary size to an SQLCLR function.
Hi, I've read conflicting articles on updating an ntext field in acolumn. My ntext field will exceed 8,000 characters (typically twice that size-- but just a text string). One article (I think from MicroSoft) said you could NOT use ntext inan UPDATE statement, but I've seen examples from other people usingit...but don't know if it's related to the size/characters issue. Is this true or not? Thanks very much...Kathy
I had a problem with the ntext datatype. I need to strip the HTML tags out of a ntext datatype column. I have sample query for that, which works fine for STRING, as stuff is the string function, what to do for ntext field.

Whose purpose is to perform an insert into a table and return me the identity value of the inserted record, which I'll then use throughout the rest of my package. The identity column in the inserted table is numeric(18,0).
I execute the stored proc with the following sql with an OLE DB connection manager:
exec sp_newTransaction ?, ?
The first parameter is a string variable from earlier in the package, and the second is the output parameter. I have the following parameter mappings to the execute sql task:
The proc is correctly called, and the row insesrted, however I get a type conversion error when SSIS attempts to map the return parameter to my package variable... I've tried all sorts of combonations, and can't seem to get it to execute.
At one point I wasn't returning a numeric, but rather an int from the stored proc, and all was well until I went to use the variable in a derived column later in the package, and the type was converted quite incorrectly (a 1 was 77799789080 or some such), indicating a type conversion error likely related to the encoding of the number.
I'd like to keep the datatypes as numeric and make ssis use those - any pointers are greatly appreciated as to what type my package variable should be to allow proper assignment of a sql server numeric type to it.
We are just looking to move to SSIS 2014 from 2008R2 however we have a number of packages which write to Sharepoint lists. The SHarepointDestination doesn't seem to work in VS 2013, any solution other than buying a third party connector.
I have an SSIS package which calls a web service and returns a Dataset object in the form of an xml file (it does this successfully - and stores it successfully).
The Data Flow then picks up the file using an xml source task (in which use inline schema is specified) , and passes it to an SQL Server Destination task - for bulk load.
I've checked the mappings and everything seems to be ok, the package gives no warnings or errors when run.
The destination table is created on the SQL Server without problem, but at that stage the task finishes "successfully", without actually loading any table rows into the destination table.
Also in the SQL Server Destination task - when I select "preview" in the connection manager section - I can see the column definitions, but again - no rows of data.
Thanks to Simon Sabin for pointing me here - I did post on the managed msdn newsgroups in sql server programming but have had no replies as yet.
Below is the beginning of the xml Dataset object which is output as an xml file for information. If you need any more information just let me know.
Not quite sure where i'm going wrong here - thanks in advance
We have an SSIS package that reads in a tab delimited file and throughs the data into a SQL Server 2005 table. The package worked fine on the test files but when we recieved the production files we are getting the error message:
Invalid data for type "numeric".
Needless to say this is not very discriptive. I ran a trace on the DB durning the call and its doing a bulk insert
BULK INSERT [dbo].[FNIAllAppData] FROM 'GlobalDTSQLIMPORT 00000000000015b800000000009fbd88' WITH (DATAFILETYPE = 'DTS_Buffers', CODEPAGE = 'RAW', CHECK_CONSTRAINTS, TABLOCK)
When I changed the Data Flow Destination off to OLE DB Destination the error does not occure and all records are loaded successfully.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks.
I am new to SSIS programming and trying to export data from a flatfile source to SQL server destination table dynamically. I need to get the table schema info (column length, data type etc.) from SQL server table and then map the source columns from flatfile to destination table columns.
I am referring to one of the programming samples from Microsoft and another excellent article by Moim Hossain. Can someone help me understand how to map the Source columns to destination table columns depending on table schema? Please help.
I am working on SSIS wehre I need to work on a flat file as a source and needed to import it to database. If the destination table have the record already, I need to update it and if not exist, I just need to import the whole data.
A sql server 2000 table contains a ntext field that needs to be updated. The update is replacing a particular string in the ntext field. I heard it's hard to do it in sql server 2000 itself. Can it be done easily in an SSIS? Please kindly provide example. Thanks.
I have an SSIS Package where I am looping through all input columns and creating an XML out of it. The Problem comes in one of the tables where I have an Ntext column. Instead of giving me the value of the column, it gives me "Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.BlobColumn"
I am trying to get the string value from this blob column. For that I am using the below code. Can you please point me to where I am going wrong. I am not very good in VB so I might be doing some casting error.
Dim blobCol As Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.BlobColumn
Dim ByteVal As String
For Each column In Me.ComponentMetaData.InputCollection(0).InputColumnCollection
I am running this query to an sql server 2000 database from my aspcode:"select * from MyTable whereMySqlServerRemoveStressFunction(MyNtextColumn) = '" &MyAdoRemoveStressFunction(MyString) & "'"The problem is that the replace function doesn't work with the ntextdatatype (so as to replace the stresses with an empty string). I hadto implement the MySqlServerRemoveStressFunction, i.e. a function thattakes a column name as a parameter and returns the text contained inthis column having replaced some letters of the text (the letters withstress). Unfortunately, I could not do that because user-definedfunctions cannot return a value of ntext. So I have the following idea:"select * from MyTable whereCheckIfTheyAreEqualIngoringTheStesses(MyNtextColum n, '" & MyString &"')"How can I implement the CheckIfTheyAreEqualIngoringTheStessesfunction? (I don't know how to combine these functions to do what Iwant: TEXTPTR, UPDATETEXT, WRITETEXT, READTEXT)
I have a problem with decimal places. My source flat file has value of 22.20 but after inserting to SQL table SSIS is inserting as 22.2000. I am using DT_Numeric datatype in SSIS. I tried changing scale to 2 but it does not work.
I have a problem with datatype mismatches. In my Data Flow I am reading a Flat File that includes a DateOfBirth which SSIS correctly assigns a datatype of [DT_DATE]. I need to check to see if the record has previously been submitted, so I do a Lookup that uses a SQL statement that combines fields (LastName, Zip & BirthDate) from three different tables. My problem is that SSIS assigns a datatype of [DT_DBTIMESTAMP] to BirthDate, which I can't use because of the mismatch. I have tried every form of re-formating the field in SQL that I can think of, but it still gets assigned that DT. And I'm unaware of a way of changing the DT once SSIS assigns it in the Lookup task.
I have a problem that stops me from using Integration Services as THE ETL tool.
My goal is to load a data warehouse type of a database. The database is MaxDB (former SAP DB), but this is not the point. Let's take ANY ODBC compliant DB and assume all I have is ODBC driver - no OLE DB driver.
I figured out how to read from ODBC source (using Data Reader and ADO.NET provider for ODBC).
Now my question is how do I output/write my data into ODBC source? When I try to use OLE DB Destination it does not give me an option to use .Net Provide for ODBC. I tried other "destinations" with no luck.
I use this version of SQL Server 2005: (Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1187.07 (Intel X86) May 24 2005 18:22:46 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)
I am dealing with SSIS in VS 2005... Trying to convert all my DTS packages... So, basically all my packages will extract some information from a database and load the results into a spreadsheet.
To start I am trying to do a TOP 1 returning a string from the db... The first row has column names but mysteriously the package will start to write the expected results in the third row instead of the second one. The second row will remain blank and if I do a preview against the destination spreadsheet within the pkg I will see a NULL value in the second row and then in the third row I will see the string I was expecting.
Tried the following with no success:
Regedit.exe, in Hkey_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/Jet/4.0/Engines/Excel/ do TypeGuessRows=8, ImportMixedTypes=Text, AppendBlankRows=0, FirstRowHasNames=Yes
i am transfering the table from one database to csv file format..i did it.. again i want to shift that csv files to another databse as tables. how to do this task.. pls help me.. its very urgent..out TL had given me the dead line.. send reply soon....
Am new to SSIS and developing a component which pulls data from a staging table and drops them into another table in the same database.
Am using a 1) OLE DB Source to get the data from the staging table. 2) OLE DB Destination to insert or push the data into another table of the same database. 3) Script component to get the error rows and to update the staging table column with a flg value.
The rows that throw an error like primary key violation, or any other error should be redirected to the script component and the process should get completed.
The Error Output of the OLE DB Destination doesnt show any columns to be selected for Redirect Row option
The script executes without any error and the records are shown in error path but the records are not updated in the DB.
This is what i have in the script
Public Class ScriptMain
Inherits UserComponent
Dim sqlConn As SqlConnection
Dim sqlCmd As SqlCommand
Dim connMgr As IDTSConnectionManager90 Dim txnIdParam As SqlParameter
Dim errorDescParam As SqlParameter
Public Overrides Sub AcquireConnections(ByVal Transaction As Object)
Hi All, In Migrating from DTS to SSIS we have scenario where data from OLE DB (SQL Server) is inserted into ODBC source (transoft driver). In case of DTS, ODBC component was provided. For SSIS we used the Destination Script Component and programmatically used the ODBC related calls to design similar functionality. However we are getting the following error €“ Error[42000][Transoft] [TSODBC][usqld] Name expected@
However the same program pointing to Microsoft Access ODBC driver works fine.
Any help in this direction will be greatly helpful. Thanks, S Suresh
ts my first time trying to set up a SSIS job using the import/export wizard to export the results of a query into an excel file.
i am using sql server 2005, windows XP SP2.
In the last step in the excel destination editor, in the connection manager when i am trying to select the excel file to write into i am getting this error.
'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 ' provider is not registered on the local machine.
I have set up the excel connection manager. i have changed the properties of the project to set
the Run64BitRuntime to false.
i am running the latest version of MDAC 2.8 on the machine too
please let me know if there is anything else i need to do to fix this.
I have a doubt regarding SSIS data destinations. I have a word document which is stored in the sql database table as varbinary(max). I want to fetch that doument and load it into word document through ssis.Is it possible? If so,how to do it?
One more question regarding data destination..I have created an interface to execute the ssis package from asp.net application. The package will be run by sql server agent. The question is is there any way that the package output will be shown on the local machine rather than host machine(which has interface and package).
I am new to using SSIS and need some assistance. I am trying to create a package that will loop through a folder of DBF files and import them into SQL server. Here is what I did so far: - Created a Foreach Loop Container with a Data Flow Task within - Created a string variable to store the file names - Created the OLE DB Source and Destinations - Created the connection manager with dBASE III Extended Property pointed to the folder where the files are.
When I try to set the OLE Source to use the file name variable, I get an error stating that there is no Destination table defined. I get the same error when I try to setup the OLE Destination. How do I resolve this issue? I want it to import each file into its own table. Is there any way to reuse this file name variable as the destination table name?
