SSIS Package In Transaction Required Mode?
Jul 24, 2007
Hi Guys,
Refering to my previous post I've a package which easily run when transaction mode is Supported but when i put it to Required and All DFs are supported inside the sequence container it won't run.
Well technically it goes and pass step 1, so it goes to green but regardless of what i put in the 2nd DF it won't run. It just hangs in there.
When i check the component service and check DTC, the transaction would be running but never commited.
I have done most of the things about DTC and configuration with the MS articles as this package was failing before but now it just sits at this point.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Gemma

Hi,
I have created a few packages and i want to execute this in a sequence so I created a wrapper/parent package and added all the other packages as child Package using the Execute Package Task. These packages are file system based packages. I am executing the wrapper/parent package from a web page which will execute all the child packages. All is well and works fine when I choose the TransactionOption as "Supported" in my wrapper/parent package but when I choose the TransactionOption as "Required" in my wrapper/parent package I get the following error
Error Occurred: The package is failed due to following: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D024 "The transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions.".
What I am doing is connecting to 3 DB in the same server and doing some data manipulation. The MSDTC is running in the Target SQL Server and also the DTC Server in my Local is started and running. What else could be the problem.
Thanks in advance for any and all help

I'm after running into something in SSIS 2012 that I fail to grasp.
I have a package that provides a service to other packages. In order to provide that service it needs 4 parameters provided by the caller. So naturally I'm thinking I make those 4 parameters 'required'.
The caller uses Execute package task and provides the 4 parameters on the parameter mapping tab.
Yet the packages fails with the error message that one or more required parameters weren't provided.

I have a bat file that kicks off a master package, which kicks off about 300 child packages. My bat file is working correctly, however there seems to be issues executing packages in 64 bit mode.
So my question is...
Is there a way to specify in the bat file to execute packages in 32 bit mode and not 64 bit?
bat file:
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server110DTSBinnDTExec.exe" /f "E:MasterPackage.dtsx"

Hello
When running a package in VS you can see something like this in the output window:

SSIS package "logging.dtsx" finished: Success.
This is exactly when I need when a package is running but I want to be able to see it without using Visual Studio.
I would do it in Reporting Services but I need to find out to get the information. The SSIS logging feature in a package does not provide that kind of info.
Did someone try this already?
Thanks!

Hi,
I am a newbie in SSIS. I'd like to hear your recommendation to build the whole SSIS package as one transaction. In other words, how we can rollback all DML operations (insert/update/delete) that are applied in different parts of a package if for any reason the package failed to complete?. Something like rolling back a proc if the proc failed.
Thanks in advance

I am running a package in which all tasks participate in a transaction. One task is a ForEach Loop container that executes 1 SQL INSERT statement per loop. The Loop runs well over 100 times in order to normalize a very, very, very wide table.
It seems that at a certain point, the Loop task will fail. I've tested a few different scenarios and they all fail at the same point... the 98th loop.
The error message is below:
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "ADO.NET Connection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
I'm guessing that there is a limit to the number of connections that can be started at any one time. But I figured SSIS wouldn't start a new connection for every SQL command.
Any insight on this issue? Anyone have an idea for a work around?

1) I created many data flow task packages.
2) Then a execute package task in which I ordered relationally execute above data flow packages.
3) What I find is when a package fails, it is rolled back, execution stops but not the packages before this failed one.
4) What to do to rollback all in case of error and commit only if all are successfully executed?

In that i have an sql task that will insert a record in to the database. i find that if i use a simple OLEDB connection it works fine. but the problem comes here when i change the connection string with an valiable. Once i assign the same connection string to a valiable and assign the variable as expression, there after i encounter the following error.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "DB connection". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
I am struggling with this for a long time.

Hi there,
I'm trying to come up with the best way to build some C# Unit tests for an SSIS package I've built.
My C# code does the following
1. Creates a Transaction Scope using System.Transactions
2. Puts some source data for my package into a table that the package will read
3. Kicks off the Package using System.Diagnostics.ProcessStartInfo
Im getting a Transaction TimeOut execption which I beleive is caused because the Package can't read the source data I've inserted becuase the package has not joined the transaction.
So the question is - can you call a run a package and make it participate in a transaction that you have created outside of the package?
Thanks.

I want to use Transaction(MS DTC) in SSIS package across domain. It's working fine if both the servers are in Corpnet microsoft domain but failing it one of the server at extranet microsoft domain. I did all the required settings for MS DTC service to run for distrubuted transaction and in SSIS package did the "TransactionOption" property for the container object to "Required" and for all inner tasks to "Supported". Is it possible or a Security voilation which won't allow to do through SSIS package.
Example: I have a database on Extranet server and a database at Corpnet Server.
Sql Job will pull the data from Extranet Database to Corpnet database through SSIS package and update back to Extranet database. Job will reside on Corpnet server.
SSIS package is failing with the error message: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "<Connection Manager name>" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
Any special setting do we require for this. I did the following setting on both the servers:
Ø MS DTC should run on both the servers under €œNetwork Service€?
Ø Set the following on both the servers(ExtranetCoptnet) to run on a Distributed Transaction:
§ Go to "Administrative Tools > Component Services"
§ On the left navigation tree, go to "Component Services > Computers
§ €œMy Computer" (you may need to double click and wait as some nodes
need time to expand)
§ Right click on "My Computer", select "Properties"
§ Select "MSDTC" tab
§ Click "Security Configuration"
§ Make sure you check "Network DTC Access", "Allow Remote Client",
"Allow Inbound/Outbound", "Enable TIP"
§ The service will restart
Note: If I will chage the Extranet server to Corpnet then it's working file for me.

I have a simple SSIS package with three "Execute SQL Tasks". I am using ADO.Net Connection to execute SPs on a DB server.
When I execute this package It works fine. So far so good.
Now, I need to implement transation on this package. And problem starts now onwards. When I try to execute package after setting TransationOption = Required for the Sequence container which contains all the tasks, I get following error.
[Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "NYCDB0008.Export". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection.
"NYCDB0008.Export" is the name of the ADO.Net connection. I have been hunting for any solution but all in vain. I have tried changing all DTC settings on the dev as well as Database server.
Please respond if anyone has any solution.
Thanks!

I have a design a SSIS Package for ETL Process. In my package i have to read the data from the tables and then insert into the another table of same structure.
for reading the data i have write the Dynamic TSQL based on some condition and based on that it is using 25 different function to populate the data into different 25 column. Tsql returning correct data and is working fine in Enterprise manager. But in my SSIS package it show me time out ERROR.
I have increase and decrease the time to catch the error but it is still there i have tried to set 0 for commandout Properties.
if i'm using the 0 for commandtime out then i'm getting the Distributed transaction completed. Either enlist this session in a new transaction or the NULL transaction.
and
Failed to open a fastload rowset for "[dbo].[P@@#$%$%%%]". Check that the object exists in the database.
Please help me it's very urgent.

Hello everybody,
my problem is:
When I try to set the transaction required on a SQL Task, the package will return the following error:
"[Execute SQL Task] Error: Failed to acquire connection "MYDATABASE.ADONET_CONNECTION". Connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection."
But if the connection is made to a SQL Server in the local machine, I can have the transaction required option, if I change the SQL Server Connection to another machine, the task only runs if I get the transaction to the supported option...
Does anyone have any ideia about this problem?
I've googled the problem, but all the possible solutions I've found came to nothing... so I'ved ran out of ideias!
Thanks in advance!
Cheers

This question is very basic. When you do a ProcessAdd, is it within a transaciton mode?
I mean, if the ProcessAdd fault and stop when it meets a mistake, the records before the midstake will still be in the cube or not.
Thanks.

Can someone please help me with this problem....
I am having problems entering info into my database. I haven't had any problems so far. But all of a sudden when I try to add info to some of my columns I get the error message:
"Transaction cannot start while in firehose mode."
My column type is nvarchar. I thought I might have the length set to low, but I set the length as high as 400 and can't fit the same length of entries as some of my 200 length columns.
And also there are no constraints or foreign key values related to the column. I even created a new column with nvarchar at 400 length just to test it and same error. I'm stumped...
Thank you whomever knows this problem....

Hello everyone,
In SQL Server Enterprise Messenger I've been getting the following error in a pop up window:
"Transaction Cannot Start in Firehose Mode"
Besides this error that is featured in the Microsoft KB
BUG #: 228790 at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;286199
Is there any other reason why someone could open a table (that only has around 200 rows in it) and get this error message upon trying to update a row?

Have i a sentence or configuration to force all SQL Server connections to implicit transaction mode?

I am relatively new to SQL Server so excuse my ignorance.
I have noticed in many of my SQL Server 2005 instances that the tempdb database is very often reporting the log mode as waiting active_transaction or waiting checkpoint.
Is this of concern, how can I determine the cause of these waits and how can they be reduced or eliminated ?

hi,
we have a SQL Server 2000 database which we set to 'SIMPLE' recovery mode at 6pm (due to nightly large data loads). We revert back to 'FULL' recovery mode at 6am.
My understanding was that in 'SIMPLE' recovery mode, the transaction log would not grow because it would automatically be truncated after a checkpoint. However this is not the case. I thought perhaps it could be due to a long running uncomitted transaction, but when I ran 'dbcc opentran', the oldest running transactions doesn't last for more than a couple minutes. I manually run a 'checkpoint' command as well in the hope of forcing the transaction log truncation. I repeat this a couple of times to no avail. When I run 'dbcc sqlperf(logspace)' , I can still see the transaction log growing.
It is not until I run 'backup log db with truncate_only' that the transaction log gets truncated.
I do not understand, why the transaction log does not get automatically truncated in SIMPLE recovery mode?

I've created an SSIS package that contains a Sequence Container with TransactionOption = Required. Within the container, there are a number of Execute Package Task components running in a serial fashion which are responsible for performing "Upserts" to dimension and fact tables on our production server. The destination db configuration is loaded into each of these packages using an XML configuration file. The structure of these "Upsert" packages are nearly identical, while some execute correctly and others fail. Those that fail all provide the same error messages.
These messages appear during Pre-Execute
[Insert new dimension record [1627]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "DW" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "Insert new dimension record" (1627) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020801C.
... which are followed by
[Connection manager "DW"] Error: The SSIS Runtime has failed to enlist the OLE DB connection in a distributed transaction with error 0x8004D00A "Unable to enlist in the transaction.".
[Connection manager "DW"] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8004D00A.
While still in debug mode, I can check the properties of the "DW" connection and successfully test the connection within the packages that fail.
The same packages run successfully when tested outside the container (i.e. no transaction) or when the configuration file is modified to point the "DW" connection to a development version of the db which is running on the same server as the source database.
I have successfully used DTCtester to verify that transactions from source to destination server are working correctly. Also tried setting DelayValidation = True with no change. I have opened a case with Microsoft and am awaiting a reply so I thought I'd throw a post out here to see if anyone else has encountered this and might have a resolution. Here's some more on the environment:
Source Server:
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition SP0
Destination Server:
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP1
SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP3 (clustered)
Thank you in advance for any feedback you might be able to provide.

We are currently testing a Replication topology as follows:
SQL Server 2005 Developer as publisher and distributor of a push updatable transaction replication
2 SQL Server 2005 Express clients as subscribers.
The replication is working great. If the connection is lost, the subscribers switch from Immediate to Queued Updating, and seem to shift back to Immediate when they regain the connection.
My question is to determine if there is a way that I can ask SQL Express on the client which mode is it currently running, or ask SQL Express if it has a current live connection to the distributor.
I know that they are usually mutliple ways to accomplish tasks, and I would be open any suggestions, preferrable programming in VB (such as with SMO or RMO) or using stored procedures or functions.
I hope this give some people something to chew on during the weekend and thank you to all that have taking the time to read this.

I have prepared several DTS packages which must be launched by a custom external application. What is the best way to provide access to this application? What are the minimum security requirements? Currently, they are local packages; I understand that some utility is offered by saving them as .DTS files, but I don't know the pros & cons. Are there advantages to using the Repository? The app should be able to do its work from a different box on the same network as the server. (Ultra-super-secret security isn't an issue, but I don't want to have give our developers sa-level access unless necessary.)

I have the following error when I try to execute a DTS package.
All the package is doing, is a bit of WScript to map a drive (need it for other packages), so:
[code]
Function Main()
Dim WshNetwork
Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network")
WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "S:"
WshNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "S:", "\myserverfolder1folder2folder3folder4"
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
[/code]
If I copy it out to a .vbs file and execute it logged in as the SQL Agent profile, it works. Execute the package under a job, or just execute it, it fails with the above error.
Any ideas?

Hi there - can anyone advise on the following issue. We have recently performed some server side tracing on a particular SQL instance over 24hr period. We are now attempting to load these into a database for analysis. Here lies the problem.
When we are loading the profiler trace files (one at a time) into the database the transaction log is growing at an excessive rate. Even though the database is in SIMPLE mode.
We are loading the traces using the command:
INSERT INTO sqlTableToLoad
SELECT * FROM ::fn_trace_gettable('MytraceFileName', DEFAULT)
Can anyone advise how we could possibly get round this issue as we're running out of space due to the transaction log.
Thanks

I'm receiving the below error when trying to implement Execute SQL Task.
"The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION." This error also happens on COMMIT as well and there is a preceding Execute SQL Task with BEGIN TRANSACTION tranname WITH MARK 'tran'
I know I can change the transaction option property from "supported" to "required" however I want to mark the transaction. I was copying the way Import/Export Wizard does it however I'm unable to figure out why it works and why mine doesn't work.
Anyone know of the reason?

I'm having problems getting a package that I'm trying to develop to run consistently.
This package is using and IBM OLE DB Provider for DB2 connection manager to move data from a remote DB2 for Windows source to a Native OLE DBSQL Native Client connection manger for a SQL 2005 destination.
Sometimes the package works. Sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, a command window briefly flashes in Visual Studio before execution "completes". There are no error messages even though the job aborts and no data is moved. The only indication of failure is that the data flow task never changes to green and the output reports that the package was "Canceled". Here's the debug output I'm getting:
Information: 0x40016041 at Integrity_Report_ABD: The package is attempting to configure from the XML file "O:JrsfilesScriptsSSISConfigDB.dtsConfig".
Information: 0x40016040 at Integrity_Report_ABD: The package is attempting to configure from SQL Server using the configuration string ""SSISConfiguration";"[dbo].[SSISConfigurations]";"DMS.EDW.EtlData";".

Information: 0x40043007 at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: Pre-Execute phase is beginning.
SSIS package "Integrity_Report_ABD.dtsx" finished: Canceled.
This is the first time we've tried to connect to our WinDB2 servers with SSIS. I'm thinking that I may need to move away from this type of connection and revert back to something like ODBC.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Bryan

Hi
How do I make use of begin transaction and commit transaction in SSIS.
As am not able to commit changes due to certain update commands I want to explicitly write begin and commit statements. but when i make use of begin and commit in OLEDB commnad stage it throws an error as follows:
Hresult:0x80004005
descriptionyntax error or access violation.
its definately not an syntax error as i executed it in sql server. also when i use it in execute sql task out side the dataflow container it doesnt throw any error but still this task doesnt serve my purpose of saving/ commiting update chanages in the database.
Thanks,
