SSRS 2005 - Email Report On Execution To Dynamic List With Dynamic Parameters = No Schedule
Nov 23, 2007
Hi,
I have a need to display on screen AND email a pdf report to email addresses specified at run time, executing the report with a parameter specified by the user. I have looked into data driven subscriptions, but it seems this is based on scheduling. Unfortunately for the majority of the project I will only have access to SQL 2005 Standard Edition (Production system is Enterprise), so I cannot investigate thoroughly.
So, is this possible using data driven subscriptions? Scenario is:
1. User enters parameter used for query, as well as email addresses.
2. Report is generated and displayed on screen.
3. Report is emailed to addresses specified by user.
Any tips on how to get this working?
Thanks
Mark Smith

Hello,
I have a report that uses a begin date and an end date as paremeters along with a user's email adddress to generate thier schedule for the coming week. I would like to schedule this report to run at the beginning of the week and email to each user based on thier email address. So the parameters will be system.date +1 and system.date+6 and user email. I have the users email addresses in a table so the 3rd parameter could be a "for each email in table users...". Is this posssible? Should it be in Report services or a scheduled Stored Procedure? Any help with syntax will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Bob Myles

Hi all,
Is it possible to create a report with dynamic parameters or parameters dependant on other ones? I have the following scenario -
Parameter 1 - 'Select an Application' - List of applications that are available
Parameter 2 - 'Select a module' - This is a list of modules that needs to depend on Parameter 1. As a user selects different applications, the appropriate module list will be loaded.
Is this possible to do in SSRS?
Thanks,
Brian

I need to pass the out put from a stored procedure as an input parameter to another stored procedure. I created a data set for each stored procedure. Fron the second data set parameter tab, I added a parameter to refer to the field from the first data set.
I get the error Fiels can not be used in query parameter expressions.
I tried two simple queries instead of stored procedures with first query feeding the second query. I get the same error. Is there any other other way to accomplish this?
Thank You.

I found the following paragraph while searching on here:
************************************************************************
You could easily set up a parameter for each column and then display that column conditionally based on the parameter.
For instance, if you have a column that displays First Name, you could have a parameter called DisplayFirstName. Then in design view you'd select the whole FirstName column and in the Visibility-Hidden property set it to :
=iif( Parameters!DisplayFirstName.Value = false, true, false )
This could easily become a big, unwieldy report, though, if you have a great number of dynamic columns. Also, The width of the report is set at design time, and it includes the width of all your columns, not just the visible ones. This could cause you some pagination problems.
************************************************************************
That is exactly my problem. I have lots of dynamic columns which causes the width of the report to be wide. Thus even though at run time the report only shows columns within a page, the report itself consists of a lot of white spaces after the selected columns. Does anyone know a solution to this? If not, I guess creating the rdl with code manually is the only way? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I have created an SSRS report containing a bar chart. The Y-axis contains some application names which are displayed based on a certain criteria. Hence sometimes there are only 2 values in y-axis while sometimes it may range upto 20 items. I have tried a lot but have been unsuccessful in getting a dynamic y-axis which changes with the number of items present.

Hi there,
I have one table which holds all the information for the forms and i have another table which holds list of all the form fields. Now these two tables are mapped and that table give me list of all the fields in any forms.
To get the information about the users who filled different forms first i need to query the tblFormsToFormFields and get the list of all the fields for that form and then use that fields list in the select query to get the result.
In my report i need to provide the drop down with the list of all the forms and then display the information for all the customers for that particular form with the list of the form fields.
Is there in SSRS 2005 i can use C# or any programming language to create Columns in the report dynamically as there will be different fields for each form.
Please advice.
Thanks

I am displaying the red line in the beginning of the current week column in the matrix table. But for few resources the red line is missing. For Example in below screenshot, refer the 'Adrian Larkin' resource. Here is the SSRS report border expression which is comparing the [TimeByDay] with the current Week First Monday Date to display the red bar -
=IIf(Fields!TimeByDay.Value = DATEADD("d", -(WeekDay(Today(),2))+1, Today()), "Red", "Black")"
Here is the dataset result set. If you refer the column [TimeByDay], it has no record for the date 11/05/2015 for the Adrian resource as he has no assignment for the date 11-05-2015.display the red missing line red bar using the expression or any other solution.

We have the customer requirement to display the footer of a SSRS Report fixed at the absolute bottom of a DIN A4 format page. The footer contains information like company address and stuff.
I searched quite a while on this topic and only found workarounds for SQL Server 2005 with Custom Code in the SSRS Report to calculate the size of the body content and then insert some empty lines to get the space needed to push the footer to the bottom of the page. But this won't work in SQL Server 2012. And I wasn't able to figure out how to achieve this yet.

Here is a situation in my company:
We have an Office SharePoint 2007 site, we developed a couple of web parts and added them to our site. We used SQL Server Reporting services 2005 as our reporting solution. The reports are hosted on the report center and when we need a report, we open it by sending a URL requesting the report, passing the report parameters in the URL query string. So the report is filtered based on the parameters passed from the web parts.
But since best practices say that you should host reports directly under SharePoint, by configuring the reporting services to run in the SharePoint integrated mode. We followed the steps and installed SharePointRS and we finally succeeded to publish the reports to a SharePoint folder, but we had a limitation: we are unable to pass the report parameters internally to the report hosted in SharePoint. If we passed them in the query string as the report center case, SharePoint neglects them totally.
So the question is: how can I pass parameters internally between a SharePoint web part and a SQL server 2005 reporting services report hosted in SharePoint?

I've got a report server that I recently inherited. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not an expert on SSRS, but I've figured out a lot in the past few weeks.
One issue I'm having (apparently it's always been there, but nobody ever bothered to fix it in the past) has to do with the report subscriptions and linked reports. We have an SSL cert inside IIS. I have SSRS configured to "require SSL connections" in the Report Server Virtual Directory tab.
So the user gets an email with a link to a report. But the link has an "http://" as opposed to "https://." When you click on the link, it throws your standard "page must be viewed on a secure channel." When I manually append an S to the url, it works great.
There has to be a way to automagically add the S to the url, but I can't seem to figure out how. Anyone ever run into this before? Google has not been good to me this morning either.

I am having issues getting my report parameters to refresh when changing their values. I am running SP1 and am trying to mimic the functionality of the Select All for the multi-valued drop-down list. I have a boolean field that I pass to the query that populates the multi-valued list and set a field value to either what is displayed in the list or a -1 (a non-valid option). I then set the default value of the multi-valued list to the value of the new field I created in the query based on if they want to select all values or not.
This works great on the first choice, if I select no, nothing is checked in the list and if I select yes then everything is selected. However, if I select Yes and select No, everything remains checked. It acts like it does a refresh, but does not.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Thanks

Hey guys,
I've got a problem here. I gave execute permission to an
user on a particular stored proc which has simple select queries.
(The tables have no select permissions for that user.) Now, the user was able to run it fine and got the results. When hdynamically creates sql queries inside the proc (Based on the input parameters) sqlserver is checking for the permissions on the tables and got permission denied message.
Is there any solution to avoid this problem?..please let me know
and i'd appreciate that..
thank you very much.

I have the variable @Monthname defined as shown below:
(MONTH(getdate()) == 1 ? "January" : MONTH(getdate()) == 2 ? "February" : MONTH(getdate()) == 3 ? "March" :
MONTH(getdate()) == 4 ? "April" : MONTH(getdate()) == 5 ? "May" : MONTH(getdate()) == 6 ? "June" :
MONTH(getdate()) == 7 ? "July" : MONTH(getdate()) == 8 ? "August" : MONTH(getdate()) == 9 ? "September" :
MONTH(getdate()) == 10 ? "October" : MONTH(getdate()) == 11 ? "November" : MONTH(getdate()) == 12? "December":"")
By itself, it is working fine. I am attempting to have the @SubjectLine variable display the below:
CA - TFL for the month of August 2015
I am using the expression below in the expression builder:
"CA - TFL for the month of " + @[User::MonthName] + (DT_WSTR,4)YEAR(GETDATE())
When evaluating the expression, I get the below (month is missing):
CA - TFL for the month of 2015

Hey. I've a problem and I think I know the answer also but still want to confirm. We are using SQL 2000 and SSRS 2000. The problem is, we have custom reports which a customer can build and run. I wonder how one can write sp's for that. The way it's written right now is a dynamic select clause then a dynamic, from, a dynamic where, dynamic groupby all appended torgether and run by execute command. I know it'd dynamic SQL and execution plans and stuff will hurt me but someof these reports take forever. Is there anything that can be done to fasten these reports? And if the select will be dynamic and the where will be dynamic, does it make sense to even use a sp? Is it ever going to use the same execution plan? When I run DBCC memorystatus, procedure cache takes up most of this memory. Does the use of dynamic SQL explain that?
Thank you for your time and effort in replying.

I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like:
List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?

I have a report that i want to beable to do some dynamic paramaters on it. I have a start and end date of when they want to run the report but i also have a mulivalue list box for users filtering for users. I want to add a supervisor filter on form also. But I have a problem.
I want to allow the users to select a supervisor and filter for all employees under that, or allow them to select a set of users and allow them to filter for that also. Also i would like when they select no supervisor or user it just filters for the dates and picks all up all the users.
I thought i could do something like in access like this Like UserName & "*"
but it doesnt work.
Here is my dataset code i am using currently:
SELECT U.Name, A.row_date, A.split, A.SumOfti_stafftime, A.AHT, A.AvgACW, A.AvgACD, A.AvailTime, A.SplitSkill_Incalls, A.SplitSkill_Outcalls, A.SumOfacdtime,
A.SumOfti_othertime, A.SumOfacwtime, A.SumOfti_auxtime0, A.SumOfti_auxtime1, A.SumOfti_auxtime2, A.SumOfti_auxtime3, A.SumOfti_auxtime4,
A.SumOfti_auxtime5, A.SumOfti_auxtime6, A.SumOfti_auxtime7, A.SumOfti_auxtime8, A.SumOfti_auxtime9, U.Sup
FROM tblAvayaDaily AS A RIGHT OUTER JOIN
tblUsers AS U ON A.logid = U.[Avaya ID]
WHERE (A.split = 1651) AND (U.Name IN (@UserName)) AND (A.row_date BETWEEN @rDateStart AND @rDateEnd) OR
(A.split = 1655) AND (U.Name IN (@UserName)) AND (A.row_date BETWEEN @rDateStart AND @rDateEnd) OR

I am currently working on a project that involves creating dynamic insert and update statements for dynamically created tables. The tables I am creating the statements for could have up to 1000 columns.
Obviously building the entire insert/update SQL string dynamically in VB.Net and sending it to the Sql server leaves the system vulnerable to injection attack or error caused by single quotes in strings.
I am using the Patterns and Practices Data Application block for my data access.
What I am considering is creating the dynamic sql as a statement with the columns names and values in as parameters (@XXXXX) and then looping through my list of columns and values and adding them as by AddInParameters on the DbCommand.
- Can it handle such large amount of parameters at all?
- What kind of structure does ADO.net send to the SQL server? i.e. Will using so many parameters mean that the data communicated to the SQL server from the webserver by the parameter method would be much larger than the substituted dynamic sql string?
- How does ADO.NET/SQL Server 2005 perform with such large amounts of parameters on a DBCommand?
Any advice as to whether this is a viable way to proceed would be much appreciated.
Oh yeah... I am using VB.NET in VIsual Studio 2005 with a SQL Server 2005 DB.
Thanks

For the example stored procedure below, lets say I want to use the "sp_executesql" stored procedure instead of "EXECUTE".
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[spGetEmployees]
@managerId int,
@employeeIdList nvarchar( 200 )
AS
EXECUTE
(
'SELECT *
FROM [dbo].[hrEmployees]
WHERE [ManagerID] = ' + CAST( @managerId AS nvarchar ) + '
AND [EmployeeID] IN (' + @employeeIdList + ')'
)
I want to rewrite it something like this. Please see MSDN documentation ( http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188001.aspx ) for sp_executesql stored procedure usage.DECLARE @selectStatement nvarchar(500)
SET @selectStatement = 'SELECT * FROM [dbo].[hrEmployees] WHERE [ManagerID] = @paramManagerID AND [EmployeeID] IN (' + @employeeIdList + ')'
DECLARE @paramList nvarchar(500)
SET @paramList = '@paramManagerID int'
EXECUTE sp_executesql @selectStatement, @paramList, @paramManagerID = @managerId
Reason for using "sp_executesql" is the performance gain.However, as you can see, the @employeeIdList cannot be included as part of the Parameter List ( @paramList )like the @managerId since it **has** to be passed in as a varchar ( example: @employeeIdList = '1,2,3,4' ).
My Question Is there a way to include it as a parameter instead of it being part of the embedded dynamic SQL syntax?

Not sure if this is the place to post this, but here goes.
I need to setup an options screen where my customers can customize which locations will be stored for their user id when pulling reports. I have checkbox list that dynamically loads their locations. I need to store the selected checkbox items in my table and then each time they login in to run a report, it will use the stored Location values in my SQL query.
Synopsis:
Selected locations stored in table. When the report is ran, the location values are pulled and added to my queries WHERE clause.
Thanks.

I need to report on data from several databases on several servers. They are all SQL Server 2005 databases. I am trying to created an Integration Services task to consolidate and transform this data for easy reporting. The problem I am having is one database in particular. It has tables like this:
tblLookupData_Customer1
tblLookupParseData_Customer1
tblLookupData_Customer2
tblLookupParseData_Customer2
tblLookupData_Customer3
tblLookupParseData_Customer3
I want to use only the tables of the form "tblLookupParseData*" for this list. I can do this in Stored Procedures by dynmacally building up the sql query. I cannot find out how to do this in Integration Services. When I make Datasource Views, they seem to expect me to pick from a list of known tables. This list of tables grows as Customers are added to the system.
NOTE: The way the tables are structured was NOT my idea. I hate storing "data" in the structure of the database. Many people also do this when they create "period" tables such as "CustomerData_05_2005". It speeds up writing the data, and querying a specific table, but it is a nightmare for reporting. I cannot change this as it is not in my responsibility.
